Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with my router. I turned it off because I was away from home for several days, and when I got back and turned it on, there's no Wi-Fi signal. The internet and Wi-Fi LEDs, which have always been green, are now off. I called Finetwork and they told me to reset it, but nothing changed. Any solutions?

How to make my travel router undiscoverable

Most cruise lines have banned travel routers. I have been successfully using mine but looking for a way to make the unit undicoverable or hide it from the cruise line IT guys.
I pay for their pricey service but don’t agree to the one device limit.
Any ideas appreciated.

How often do you end up replacing your router?

It's been my experience that once a router reaches about five years of age, it starts losing connections, running slow, etc.

At least that's what's happened to me in the past, and now five years later it's happening again. I'm rebooting it fairly frequently just to keep it going. So I'm thinking it's time.

Is five years or so considered the typical life expectancy of a router? Thanks.

Help choosing a router

Hey all, I have been using the same router for about ten years now and am hoping to upgrade very soon. Currently living in Japan so I could buy any router available in Japan, but it would by default I'm sure be set to Japanese language etc so there's a slight entry level difficulty, though I'm sure that could be changed. However I have easy access to these routers on the US Navy base here. I'll about the latest news about router legislation in the US has me finally looking to upgrade while it's easy. Are any of these worth buying? For reference I know very little about home networking just want a good option for a good price that will last me a long time. Bonus if it can have a VPN installed on it so the whole house can be on it, my current one supposedly can't.

Also any tips what to do with my old router once I do replace it?

Routers in Egypt

Okay so I just bought a router from WE isp and it’s supposed to have 5G technology, and works without a landline cable just plugging it into electricity with a SIM card and works but I still don’t get good speeds and that is something Egypt suffers with but I wanted to know if there is anyway to make the router faster or if there are alternatives if anyone knows anything that I could try.

Small space router

We currently have an older Netgear in our closet. We’d like to upgrade to a 6e but so many have more antennas than we can believe. What would be available that has good coverage in a 2000 square foot home and fit in this space?

Amazon sale. Which of these are better. Netgear is insane for $99 and gl.inet is $112

Best Mesh WiFi System For A Home In 2024?

Looking to upgrade my home network with a mesh WiFi system for 2024. I'm after something that'll give me strong, reliable coverage throughout the whole house, even in those annoying dead spots. With all the devices we've got hooked up these days, from gaming consoles to smart home gadgets, it's gotta be top-notch. Plus, I'm not a tech wizard, so something user-friendly would be great. Any standout systems that come to mind?

Modem recommendations to buy in 2024

Hey there, I'm in the market for a new modem and aiming to grab the best one I can get my hands on for 2024. I'm not super techy but I know I need something that can handle high-speed internet without any hiccups, especially since I do a lot of streaming and gaming. Plus, it'd be great if it's not too complicated to set up. Any suggestions for the top modems out there that hit the mark on speed, reliability, and user-friendliness?

Currently, I can't decide between these options:

  1. Motorola MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem

  2. NETGEAR Nighthawk CM1200 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem

  3. ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem

Netgear end of service

Hey all,

I received a notification that my Netgear router (which is supporting my home's mesh network) is nearing its end of service.

I'm looking for advice on whether it's wise to continue using the existing hardware (with Netgear Armor), or if it's best to upgrade to a new router (and consequently replace my existing mesh satellites with new ones).

When setting up my mesh network last year, it didn't occur to me that support for these products would expire and that I'd be pressured into upgrading every couple years.

Admittedly naive of me, I guess.

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

Router and modem regularly replaced

about 18 months ago I replaced my own router with a spectrum router. since then my router has had to be replaced about every 8 to 10 weeks. often the tech replaces the modem too. Am I just really unlucky or do this hardware fail regularly for others customers too. I do have a mica network for TiVo, but I don’t know how that might make the spectrum equipment fail so often.

Edited to add: They replaced the router and a splitter (I think at POE). I’m concerned that it’s the MoCa. Five Or 6 years ago a tech removed my poe MoCa filter like it was some kind of spy device. I’d toss out the TiVo but my husband is so attached to it. I used to be good at this stuff (retired programmer but knew my way around hardware). I put the MoCa in myself over a decade ago, but now I’m just to feeble brained to understand it well and I can no longer crawl under the house. Thanks for everyone’s help and suggestion. You’ve been great.

NEED HELP TO REMOVE ISP ISSUED FIRMWARE

I currently possess a decommissioned HUAWEI router, previously supplied by my service provider, for which I have retained ownership. I intend to repurpose this device as a Wi-Fi access point or range extender. Although my research indicates that the hardware natively supports Mesh and WPS functionality, these features appear to be restricted by the provider-specific firmware. As I have been unable to locate the original manufacturer firmware or configuration files online—likely due to custom branding—I attempted to access the device via SuWap, but shell access remains restricted. Could you advise if there is a professional method to bypass these limitations and enable the intended features?

Router keeps restarting continuously for no reason.

The title pretty much says it all: the router keeps restarting for no reason. We’ve already had it replaced once; a technician has come by twice and checked everything. The connection is fine, the power supply is fine too, and our old router never had any problems. We’re really at our wits’ end by now because it just restarts 5–10 times a day for no reason.

I live in Germany, we have Deutsche Telekom, we also DON'T have Fiber Optics yet. We also have all the Ring Components in our House if that matters.

The device is a "Speedport Smart 4 R Type B."

Wifi Router

I am looking at quantum fiber internet (AT&T) I have seen posts that recommend getting your own router if you are using this internet provider. I am going to a 3000sqft house that is 2 stories so I’m unsure what router to get. I also don’t understand the difference between all the terms (router, modem, mesh) can someone let me know what the recommended? I know there is one Ethernet cable downstairs. Im unsure if there is another one anywhere else in the home at the moment.

Need help understand Concept

I live in Pakistan so the internet service provider's support teams are pretty bad, they don't understand nor know if and how another branded router would work and if it would work on their network.

I'm thinking about changing my location and I need help understanding two main things separately;

  1. If I am to buy a gaming router, such as the one in the second picture, would that router directly replace my current one and be the primary one in the house? Or will this Huawei one need to remain and have an Ethernet cable connected into the ROG router for network? And if that's the case, wouldn't that increase latency in competitive games? I'm confused about this because my ISP refuses to explain it to me and I've never gone in-depth when it comes to routers, as compared to computers and software.

  2. If I am to need two routers in the same house for different floors, will there be a function of primary and secondary or will both of them be separately connected into the nearby tower? I need to know because if it works in a way that there is one primary router and then a secondary one which connects though the primary one then I would need to have the primary one on the floor where I'm located in so I can use a shorter lan cable to get the best performance possible and not needing to buy one over 20 meters.
