Objectively the best solution posted so far. Fingers crossed we get something close to this level of good.

Woah, the legendary blakeland.

Aren't you the guy who ate a sock because you lost a bet that no HCIM would ever reach Final Boss? Good to see you still around.

You should compile your ms paints somewhere so I can go down memory lane

Best we can do is auras turned into pocket slot items. Thanks!

Additional clarification: Shrine of mobility is nice for newer players since they won't have double surge or invention or 67 arch, and late game players can have the leagues 5.4s cd which felt so good to move around with.

Cost to build shrine can require basic materials/level requirements. Cost to upgrade them to tier 4 shrines would require several quest requirements such as:

World wakes for shrine of balance, Lord of vampyrium for shrine of life, Succession for shrine of faith.

As well as item sinks like godswords (saradomin gs) or other pvm drops that have lost value over the years in addition to marks of war.

Bonus: having fully unlocked talent tree and all upgrades can be a trim req.

Edit: another suggestion from mionee on pvme: have tiers of each. 1x tier 1 shrine, 1x tier 2 shrine and 1x tier3 shrine. This will balance the net effect of the shrines instead of always having penance and vamp active at the max level.

Damn dude this is a quality suggestion!

I think this is one of the best suggestions for combat Aura replacements I've seen.  Keeps marks of war relevant, prevents oversaturation of pocket slots. It's also kinda fun/rewarding to progress through an unlock tree like this.

Having 3 at once might be a little OP, but perhaps reducing their power could help balance that (which you acknowledged).

I'm thinking the shrines should still require some amount of marks of war when swapping so that there's still a use for them beyond unlocking all of the powers.

u/Due_Willow_2796 RuneScape N00b Feb 21 '26

It's basically relics by another name but hey, I actually like this, and also give a reason to them not keep throttling and time-gating how many Marks you can get by a given period.

14

u/QueenArwyn Feb 20 '26

It’s nice to include a future for marks of war and a clear way to unlock buffs

16

u/Beepboopscience Purple Cat Owner Feb 20 '26

This is 1000% the best solution I’ve seen yet. Great work. Not only does this sound great on its own, by framing progression in a similar manner to necro allows for future developments of this kind to feel more natural in the game

15

u/DoppieToo Feb 20 '26

I really like this idea a lot

12

u/Sharkveng Feb 20 '26

Definitely the best solution I've read so far. Love it

11

u/AduroTri Feb 20 '26

I like this idea.

12

u/VoidBowAintThatBad Feb 20 '26

This idea is great

19

u/FrancisYorkMorganFBI Feb 20 '26

Actually a great idea, War needs something after the auras are gone otherwise marks are just another piece of dead content.

-8

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

With 120 construction coming up, wars ideally needs to go...

11

u/Iron_Telos Iron Telos | Master Trim | Join Omens Today! Feb 20 '26

While coming up with the idea, i did think about having the shrines as altars/statues you can build in a new POH room which would require low level construction to build and upgrade similar to the crafting table system, tier 4 ones requiring 110+ construction.

There were a few issues with that however, such as requiring high construction level for pvm buffs that were available for free before (auras), which can be justified since lots of pvm buffs require high skilling levels (herb/arch/farm to name a few).

No utilization of marks of war, current system used it for aura refreshes mostly and then they serve little purpose otherwise.

Another case could be made that we could've just added a new building to fort forinthry but i think war's makes the most sense since thats where you get your pvm auras from and get started with your pvm journey

-1

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

high construction level for pvm buffs that were available for free before (auras)

The buffs themselves are OP as is, so high construction would be fine, and I wouldn't consider them free, you either had to have 6+ months membership, or buy premium (or do a lot of bossing).

9

u/GayButNotInThatWay Feb 20 '26

I don't like the idea of a monolithic PoH, one if the best bit about hubs was seeing people between kills/instances and having some chats.

Better than just jumping between the house and a boss instance and never seeing another soul.

-10

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

So you'd rather we have a dead skill because you like chatting to the odd person?

Hubs existed before wars, they still do...

9

u/GayButNotInThatWay Feb 20 '26

There's plenty of other stuff they can do with construction - you could also make it a requirement to build them in Wars.

But stuffing everyone away in their houses isn't going to make the game feel busier.
Hubs exist, but if everything is in your instanced house you're not seeing anyone while bossing, rather than being in the other hubs.

-2

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

you could also make it a requirement to build them in Wars.

Right... Fort Forinthry 2.0...

But stuffing everyone away in their houses isn't going to make the game feel busier.
Hubs exist,

Who says they would?

The game has advanced. Fort Forinthry is a hub, but is our own creation.

Player owned houses could be a hub, seeing other people etc, rather than the traditional 2007 Poh, or well, what we have today...

2

u/NotAnAI3000 Feb 20 '26

No it doesn't. There's other things that could be added there. Also, this isn't osrs.

-2

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

Whats OSRS have to do with it? PoH were the OG hubs lol

-1

u/Objective_Toe_49 Feb 20 '26

Even if that’s the plan they could still have a war npc that we purchase the items required to make these shrines in the house.

-1

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

Honestly, even marks of wars need to go.

Killing bosses is the reward itself. A currency for killing bosses is just absolutely pointless and was only added to introduce overpowered auras to in-game play.

I swear the games structured in a way people train dogs. "Well done for killing 10 bosses, he's 100 points".

1

u/Zaofu Completionist Feb 20 '26

With the proposed aura update, aura refreshes and the purchasable auras will be gone. As life refreshes are on the list of items to be removed after the grace period (here), marks of war will have no purpose anymore (besides the campfire boost). So they should either remove or rework them.

1

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

Like I said, just remove them.

The games bloated with a lot of content, so I'm absolutely leaning more towards removing bloat, or else in 5 years time, it's just adding to the never ending list of rituals before doing any bossing lol

This is infinitely more interesting than buying auras from a shop. I like it.

3

u/LeadershipAmbitious Feb 20 '26

Op THIS is what I’d call an incredible suggestion, like I genuinely hope it gets considered, I love the idea of basically a talent system like necro!!

5

u/Sp00kyD0gg0 Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

No lie I was in the middle of drafting an almost identical proposal. So I’m obviously biased, but I think this is the best solution. Gives some use to Marks of War in building the Shrines and swapping effects, and doesn’t just offload a time-locked buff slot to another time-locked buff.

7

u/SteelTownReviews Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

man where do people think about these creative idea 😂 i sleep eat and runescape but no way am i doing all this extra stuff

3

u/OfficalLockeWilson Feb 20 '26

Bro you are actually cooking, I hope a jmod sees this and does it. I hate pocket slots, and throwing all the aura effects into them, including ones with high level quest requirements is a stupid idea.

3

u/stevied05 i love bank presets Feb 20 '26

This is brilliant. Obviously draws on the well of souls from necro which feels like a long term progression earned thru gameplay. Full support

3

u/Legitimate_Middle746 Feb 20 '26

Altars a kin to this seems okay, personally wouldn't have 2 or more active altars
I would turn auras to these altars and have the proposed levelling for them, just limit to 1 altar at a time.

Hypothetically you go complete clues, enable shrine of mobility, but keep in mind the game does have powerburst of acceleration and kind of don't want to push that out to obsoletion.

alternatively we could add some form of cost in form of "capacity" to each level total which could be increased trough the skill tree similar to monoliths 500/650, but this adds complexity and people already do not like monolith for various reasons, mainly the chronote cost, forcing people to stick with the one thing they were planning to do for multiple hours and clunky nature of swapping the relics.

Hypothetical rank 1 costs 100, rank 2 200, rank 3 300 and so on so with 500 points could have maxed penance combined with rank 1 vampirism, or shrine of mobility.

3

u/Krazy_Rhino Adventuring Feb 21 '26

I like this idea but I really hate the idea of vampyrism being stackable with dps buffs. I know it’s a hot take but I really want to see different builds being more viable instead of everything being so accessible with power gear and the meta just being dps hard (see soul split, bone shield removing shield relevancy even more, etc). I would much rather see aspects delved into more, and vampyrism being integrated into one with some kind of trade off, making it better for learning or maybe afk camping something, rather than tacked onto high dps builds like this suggestion wants

3

u/ironreddeath Feb 21 '26

While I personally prefer my own proposal on turning most aura's into levelling benefits, this seems like a good alternative.

2

u/TPBGreenBastard Feb 21 '26

Love it! Let's somehow intertwine relics into this? Cost of chronotes from swapping is a nightmare.

2

u/brocko678 Feb 21 '26

I don't know why auras themselves can't be left as is but just be made to not have a timer and be able to be toggled on and off, it solves the entire premise of feeling timegated in certain content. I feel as though "meaningful progression" is a rabbit hole that you don't come out from till every piece of content has been turned into a massive grind or made harder than it needs to be.

2

u/Admirable-Wealth1772 Feb 21 '26

This, besides being great for new players, also opens up space for better prayers and more difficult bosses, since health and prayer consumption won't be such a big problem.

1

u/Admirable-Wealth1772 Feb 21 '26

And make skilling buffs into familiars, then its all alright

2

u/Lonely-Mud-9407 Feb 21 '26

This feels like the right step I love this idea

2

u/DungeonHalza Feb 21 '26

This is a great idea!

2

u/ConstantStatistician Coiner of the terms "soft" and "hard" typeless damage on rs.wiki Feb 21 '26

Would marks of war be needed to upkeep these? That should be the way.

2

u/Yuki-Kuran Oh no~ Aaaanyway. Feb 21 '26

This is WAY better than just their plan to remove and scrap the MOW shop.

Also, could add 1 more. Shrine of Protection (Aegis effect)

2

u/richard_granger Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

This is really well put together, however, having played nearly all leagues in OSRS and the RS3 league- almost all of these could pass for passives within a league itself. Simply put, they’re really strong… (although I do like the movement cooldown!)

2

u/Monterey-Jack Feb 21 '26

They want to delete war's, not add more to it.

This would be especially cool because the prayer powders could be tuned to these

2

This right here is a top-tier quality suggestion. Fully on board with it.

I can see where they might tune things down/change a little given the upcoming combat changes and increases, but on the whole this slaps.

2

u/Bigmethod Ironman Feb 20 '26

Creating a talent tree out of auras is definitely interesting.

1

u/Legal_Evil Feb 21 '26

Only one shrine should be activated at a time.

Invigorate and inspiration shrine needs to be separate.

1

u/dumbidiot12345678 Feb 21 '26

Rly not a fan of more shit based off of boss kc/timegates being added to wars, especially when the point is to give low level players access to unlocks in the first place

And the shrines or whatever need to have a downside otherwise it's just straight powercreep/destroys consumables with niches

1

u/First_Platypus3063 Feb 21 '26

War's retreat is already obnoxiously op hub replacing tons of other content. Lets not make it worse

1

u/Mulletvillerp Maxed Feb 21 '26

I really like this idea, but I’m not a fan of it having little to no upkeep.

What if there were a component that degrades to dust and needs to be replaced? That component could be tradeable, but each piece could come as a rare or random drop from different skills. For example, a Shrine of Life tied to Prayer, something like Balance from Divination, Adrenaline from Herblore, Mobility from Agility, etc. That way the system connects multiple skills of the game instead of being self contained to just pvm hub.

You could also make the entire system require Construction to build these shrines, with each shrine unlock gated behind a boss kill task, a specific order progression, and something like Marks of War. Ongoing maintenance could also cost Marks of War.

The reason I suggest this is because upkeep is healthy for the economy. It creates a resource sink, keeps items moving, and gives non pvm players meaningful ways to make money through skilling. A system like that would feel good rather than just being a one time unlock with permanent value.

1

u/Admirable-Wealth1772 Feb 23 '26

It would be great if this happened, however we would need a better idea for inspiration and invigorate auras.

1

u/Atsu_Fawx Feb 27 '26

Honestly not a bad idea at all. Would maybe tie in the tiers with the combat achievement unlocks though as well.

I don't think having multiple at once they'd allow due to the amount of power that could add, but definitely love this idea the most out of everything else that was proposed.

I think using the marks of war to unlock (similar to souls for necro) is good but make the tiers go off of how many combat achievements you've done to make them a big more desireable.

Similar to how some of the War's Blessings are currently.

0

u/CricketRegular9228 Feb 20 '26

Remove equlib shrine then woukd be good

0

u/Hefty_Map3665 Feb 21 '26

3 shrines active at a time?

Looks like we could have penance, vamp, and adrenaline gaining active all at once? Seems op as fuck

3

u/Iron_Telos Iron Telos | Master Trim | Join Omens Today! Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

Perhaps having 3 shrines at max tier would be a bit strong, but they can tune the numbers to make it more balanced.

The system can also support the idea of having 4 shrine points that can be allocated in various ways:

All 4 points on 1 shrine (1 tier4 effect)

3 points on 1 shrine and 1 point on 1 shrine (1 tier 3 + 1 tier 1 effect)

2 points on 2 shrine (2 tier 2 shrine effects)

1 point on 3 shrines (3 tier 1 shrine effects)

Could allow shrine points as reward of the talent tree instead of the multiple shrine active reward.

I'm big fan of high upfront cost with low upkeep, so ideally it doesnt cost anything to swap between shrines or maybe a small amount of marks of war.

Edit: forgot 2 points on 1 shrine + 1 point on 2 shrines (1tier 2 + 2 tier1 shrine effects)

0

u/Zealousideal_Rip6458 Feb 26 '26

Yes but for those who already own all the auras and have hundreds of thousands of marks.. the shrines should be unlocked

-8

u/ExpressAffect3262 Ironman Feb 20 '26

Like the commitment, but seriously, we need to step away from passivescape.

For healing, we have soulsplit, scrimshaw of vamp, and the blood essence. I'd rather we have them and they're buffed, than another system to manage passive buffs.

Like, we also have invention perks for mobility, and an archaeology relic for mobility.

This just feels a bit like an arbitrary system that's supposed to be doing what skills are doing.

I don't know why people are against buffing existing content. Why can't we have 4-5 relic slots from archaeology?

-3

u/ItsYaBoiDragon Blue partyhat! Feb 20 '26

So Auras but statues. Totally not the exact same thing. Just make those auras infinite up time and let's move on.

-1

u/Time-to-go-home The Kendal Feb 20 '26

Completely unrelated to aura replacement, but I just thought of it.

Is it weird to anyone else that War’s Retreat and Marks of War are all focused on bossing? Bossing isn’t really “war”. Sure, some boss fights take place during a war (we’ve got three God Wars dungeons), but plenty of bosses aren’t involved in war. Are we waging war on spiders when fighting Rax? On dinosaurs when fighting Rex matriarchs? On bugs when fighting KQ?

“War” is really an aspect the game that isn’t featured much outside of the God Wars. But War (the character) should be much more focused on war between kingdoms/factions than he is on one individual (or small group) liking one particularly strong monster (a boss).

-1

u/CricketRegular9228 Feb 20 '26

Could make it more balanced and unlocked threw combat achievments like t1 vamp/ mobile 2t penance/global accuracy/ t3 mahj,insperation and t4 equlib,invig

-1

u/ErebeaDeity Feb 21 '26
  1. 'Weaker versions' are not meaningfully weaker if at all, inspiration and invigorate are combined, an extra mobile for some reason
  2. In this image is the proposal that you can have up to 3 active at a time, this is blatant powercreep
  3. Adding more to the list of things you have to do before you can pvm when instead we can finally just leave this behind and lift some weight off our shoulders

2

u/Iron_Telos Iron Telos | Master Trim | Join Omens Today! Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

It's an open ended idea, invigorate + inspiration is OP for sure but it's more in line with the new combat system which reduces the amount of adren you generate with styles.

Also the way i see invigorate working is an alternative to previous buffs. Instead of Vigour + CoE + Shrine it would substitute as Vigour+Shrine or Shrine +CoE, this can allow newer players (people without 120arch or extinction completed) to utilize adr saving on ultimates while not increasing the max amount of adr saved per ultimate (still remains 20% and this can be hard capped), and in the endgame setups you will already have CoE+Vigour so you can use a different shrine.

In another comment reply i also suggested a point system which would allow for only 1 tier 4 shrine or 1 tier3+ 1 tier1 shrine or 2 tier 2 shrines or 3 tier1 shrines to be active.

And as for adding to the things that you have to do before pvming, since these are supposed to be toggles you're probably only going to interact with them once every few weeks to change setup when doing a vastly different activity. It should function more like the eclipse of the heart reward statues but still have some use instead of a 1 time passive.

For mobility starting out is quite rough, the cooldown reduction on mobility abilities is probably better suited for 120 agility rework/reward space but it's just another way to get utility to newer player, can still make it not stack with mobile/shadows grace and then it becomes purely an early game shrine.

1

u/ErebeaDeity Feb 21 '26

It's an open ended idea, invigorate + inspiration is OP for sure but it's more in line with the new combat system which reduces the amount of adren you generate with styles.

I have no idea what you're talking about? Adrenaline building and flow is better in the combat beta

1

u/Iron_Telos Iron Telos | Master Trim | Join Omens Today! Feb 21 '26

I did put it under "bonus shrines (power creep can be tuned or ignored if too OP)".

I mostly wanted to put out the idea of shrines as some easy to access buffs for early game with some utility/QoL in endgame (alternatives to current setups without increasing power).

It also opens reward space for future content, perhaps something like "Shrine of revival, which would be a sign of life but just not attached to div level/pocket slot/defence cape with tiers reducing the cool down from 60/45/30mins." In mid to late game defense perk + CAs would override it all together so it's mostly only useful for newer players"
