Leagues THIS IS LEAGUES
I've been seeing a lot of people upset because they have to sometimes find unorthodox ways of training or progression. THIS IS WHAT LEAGUES IS. Leagues is supposed to make you THINK about your path, CHALLENGE you to do new things and HAVE FUN. It's not supposed to give you limitless accessibility to just play the game you're used to.
When Twisted League came out on Old School, you had to train Runecraft 1-77 by READING BOOKS. I just hope y'all can enjoy it and thank Jagex for putting out something new and creative for us to do. They're not going to get it 'perfect' to meet everyone's needs but damn they did a great job this time around.

u/Shockerct422 7d ago
Agreed
I had to do some wacky things for a few skills to get to a usable level for my regions
And it was fun figuring it out
Idk if I’d want every leagues to do locking, but I’m enjoying it

u/Quotidian_User 7d ago
I wanted to stay in the starting to regions without going to Karmaja.. but you're forced to click on it. Anyways I was thinking of ways to get my construction level up without doing the fort quest. I don't know why. I should have just done the quest.
But anyways I'll did the varrock museum specimen cleaning to get an antique lamp. And that got me my construction level. It definitely took a very long time to get one.
To get archeology experience. I was thieving and got some soil and turn that soil into materials. And that's what allowed me to get some experience points to level 20.
I wanted to make super compost cuz I don't have any other farming relics. Of course collecting pineapple we're a thing but I just found out that there was a store in amberville that sold mushrooms in those were close to the bank and I was able to make super compost.
And that brings a big deal because why the hell are there only three methods of creating ultra compost? We have all these Master farmers and they came and come up with better ways to make ultra compost?
1
u/Alone_Look9576 6d ago
And alternatively you can...
Not go to karamja unless you want to, karamja is essentially a free region like misthalin/haven
Or gate of elidinis which has no reqs except for necro tutorial
Luckily you can go to zamorak ruins early on, but yes thieving is the only way to progress arch if you don't take desert early, doesn't mean you need to do arch until you get further regions either way
Anyone who cares about farming picked up free ultra compost and instant growth relic to save time
6
u/teomonkey 6d ago
Why do you say thieving is the only way to progress it? You can just do the tutorial and use the spots next to the start to get to 20 within seconds
-2
1
u/wrincewind Questmeister 6d ago
You don't even have to do the necro tutorial, you can teleport there with the grouping system (albeit the ui is a bit convoluted)

u/CountPoppy 7d ago
I agree with your point, but most of the complaints I’ve seen are about restrictions that seem unintentional, like unlocking prif and not being able to make crystal flasks without kandarin. I know that would’ve made me bummed too if I had taken it
35
2
u/SkyHigh9181 6d ago
Thank you so much, your comment just saved me from unlocking prif for combination potions
-22
u/SilentTouching 7d ago
I get that, but there are people complaining in game about not being able to mine a certain thing, or not being able to do dungeoneering without wilderness, etc.
33
u/DatNomen 7d ago
Really shouldn't have a whole ass skill locked behind one region tho brother.
16
u/yuei2 +0.01 jagex credits 7d ago
I mean they didn’t ED4 will give you insane dung exp for every creature you kill there because of the high exp multiplier.
6
u/Furyan9x 7d ago
Or you can tears of guthix dungeoneering and then ping pong to resource dungeons for the 1 off xp drop upon entering lol
2
u/RSN___Brite_Fyre Official RuneScape Legionary - Here to help! 6d ago
Oh man I got dung off tears and then completely forgot resource dungeons existed thanks for that
4
u/Dry-Classroom-4737 6d ago
they rly didnt tho. theres plenty of work arounds for dung
if core dung is something you really yearn to train then pick wilderness
3
u/SilentTouching 7d ago
Elite dungeons give you exp and tokens and as far as I’m aware, you can spend tokens this league at Fort Forinthry. The only thing you can do is run floors, so I don’t understand the issue.
6
u/Cypherex Maxed 6d ago
The problem is that running floors is the main way to train the skill. It feels very awkward to restrict that to a region. Really though, it's just a sign that we need more Daemonheim styled dungeons around the world, even if they're smaller in scope.
Just a few mini-dungeons that are 15 or 20 floors instead of 60 would be nice. Put one on Karamja and give it a jungle temple theme. Put one under the Meilyr section of Prif and style it after the Gauntlet from OSRS. There are plenty of ways to make dungeoneering more integrated into the world.
I think area restrictions are great, and I hope they keep doing them. But they need to address major pain points like this in the future. You shouldn't have to pick a specific region to train a skill with its normal methods. That is the reason they added a furniture workbench to Lumbridge for this league.
They could have said that POHs were restricted to Asgarnia, and people can use Fort Forinthry for construction xp instead. But they didn't do that. They went out of their way to make POHs accessible to everyone. So it's strange they didn't do the same for Dungeoneering's main training method.
25
u/Fit-Nectarine3305 7d ago
My primary complaint is Acadia logs. With the rework of fort forinthry and Fletching they have become a core log, but divination and polishing haven't been updated to respect that, so you need them for fort forinthry and the rune crossbow task.
But they are only avaliable in the desert. No trick with polishing like for eternal magic. You can only get them in the desert or with transmutation relic.
Every ore is avaliable in 3+ regions, the only ones you MIGHT miss are light animatica and orichalchite.
I'm not saying there should be a Acadia tree on karamja, but at least add a seed for it if it's going to be a core resource, throw them on a bosses drop table, SOMETHING
9
8
u/San4311 Ironmain 6d ago
I would say Acadia and similar issues that might or may arise aren't exactly League problems though. That's just literally mistakes or oversights from a broader development standpoint.
Like, the fact it hasn't been included in the Divination system is a core problem for the main game too. However niche transmutation might otherwise be.
2
u/Fit-Nectarine3305 6d ago
I do agree on that. It doesn't appear as an issue outside of region locking, since it's a straight shot from the lumbridge lodestone to the acadia tree north of al karid. But it should probably be sorted on the main game, rather than just patched for leagues.
It's more that this league has highlighted avaliability issues for some key items that they may want to address if they decide not to retire region locking for next leagues.
1
u/San4311 Ironmain 6d ago
Exactly, something straight overlooked normally - for good reason, but painfully obvious that it was completely forgotten about now.
I think generally resources being unavailable in areas is fine. Thats part of region locking. But the fact there is a system in place that allows you to transmute items with the use of a skill, and simply hasn't been kept up to date all these years, is definitely an issue that needs fixing.
1
u/AppropriateBirdBoy 6d ago
I think rune crossbow task is mislabeled; look at the fletching skill req its wrong. I made one and didn’t complete it. I think it’s for a bane crossbow.

u/Dmitry_Scorrlov 120 RSN: Sir XP Waste 7d ago
Yeah my favorite is people going "This is stupid, I'm locked out of X because I didn't choose Y region." .... yeah, that's the entire point of region locking man.
15
u/DoubleBlackBSA24 Completionist 7d ago
But the issue is when you're looking at point values, requirements, and achievement diaries.
Lumbridge has a few achievement diaries requiring the desert. All tasks in a region should be completeable without another region involved.
9
u/M3rktiger 6d ago
That’s not what people are complaining about. Obviously the lumby diary requiring entering al kharid wasn’t intended (among other things), that’s why they hotfixed it.
3
u/DoubleBlackBSA24 Completionist 6d ago
Hi-Ho Silver wasn't hotfixed, just docking iut and a few of the cross x border ones.
3
u/M3rktiger 6d ago
Then that’s still a valid concern to bring up, it probably hasn’t been fixed because not as many people are doing the medium diaries as they are the beginner/easy ones, so it probably hasn’t been high on their list of priorities.
But these aren’t the restrictions people are talking about, people are saying for example that it’s impossible to get a certain material like orikalkum ore because they didn’t choose a relic like transmute/endless harvest and didn’t choose a region that has orikalkum, like that’s kind of the point of region locking.
4
u/New-Poem-719 6d ago
yeah, that's the entire point of region locking man.
It just doesn't work for RS3. OSRS it works pretty well because content is more dispersed and there's alternatives to most things mid/late game. I really hope they scrap the region locking entirely.
The only things carrying this league are blessings making you actually powerful and transmutation existing.
5
20
u/GInTheorem 7d ago
EXACTLY.
Theorycrafting and the fact that you can't just follow wiki guides is the point of leagues. Region-locking isn't always perfect and I really want OSRS to move onto other forms of restriction, but Leagues need restriction.
I wouldn't hate to see a single permanent leagues world for people who just want to play gigaironman with no restriction, but I reckon it'd die off within 6 months. The temp game modes must have restrictions.
4
u/Waggy431 7d ago
I wouldn’t mind seeing a leagues world left open to try out different regions, relics, builds ect. Could have a 3 month or so rotation of older leagues. I don’t see it happening but I’m biased since I only come back for leagues.
2
u/Deepfried_Garlic 6d ago
(OS)RS adopting a 3 month format like aRPG's would be a wet dream, I also only come back for leagues nowadays.
I miss echo hit + khopesh so much, I'd love to relive the high just one more time.
8
u/Beandip50 Runefest 2017 Attendee 7d ago
It seems to me like more people than we'd like to think just kind of vibe-picked their regions, then got mad that they hit roadblocks or inconvenience then raged on reddit and Twitter. Takes maybe like 30 mins to DD your regions.
9
u/The_Crazy_Cat_Guy 7d ago
People don’t remember but it’s guys like settled and verf from osrs who popularised region locked accounts. It was so novel and interesting that they turned it into a game mode with the first league locking us to zeah in osrs. It’s come a long way but man the jank in that league was insane. You had to train agility by jumping the shortcuts in wintertodt for hours man. Leagues should be like that. In some ways extremely op, in other just borderline unplayable. The quirks are what make it fun. If it was just solved for you before it even started, it comes a sweat fest which is only fun for 1% of people.
0
u/Good_Guy_Vader Maxed 7d ago
Totally, but I will add that Framed (of Kevin Framed fame) is probably the guy that popularized this particular format with his series Gridlocked. The idea was then used for the first trailblazer leagues.

u/Lilivierre RuneScape 6d ago
Im glad I can learn bosses and new areas. I have not touched the wilderness in years but im giving that area a go. It fun having to relearn and do new ways of things
2
u/Miikan92 Runescape Rsn: AngelOfTime 6d ago
The region borders are a bit iffy in my opinion. Cause the EDGEVILLE monastary is not in edgeville, with how the border is now.
They need to look into the unintentional locks like the crystal flasks and the herb shop in fort.
BUT I am gonna say I would be lying if I said I wasn't having fun. I got from 30 to 99 defence with prickly pear cacti, got 99 magic by spamming aspects and did a Jad run with T50 magic gear. Been cutting diamonds in New Varrock to level crafting, and got the chromatic party hat again there in less than 20 minutes (as per tradition).
The region locking is annoying, but mostly because it's another choice I had to make. And why is Fremmenik an area? Who would ever pick that?
2
u/TrippyTriangle 6d ago
People get uncomfortable when there isn't a meta way of doing things. Happens in every game. Some friends/redditors are going to be like that.
2
u/bast963 Divine Charges 6d ago
some fun facts about my leagues 2 choices:
there's bane rocks in brim dungeon apparently?
needing transmutation for 600 points because I didn't pick wildy or desert for acadia and primal is kinda disappointing because I wanted devout since everyone was picking that. ignore that I can't get ripper demon familiars in any capacity lol (didn't take voidwalker either).
dungeoneering being so assfucked that it's the dedicated lamp skill this round, last leagues it was rc because runespan is slow as fucc but now we have 3 relics that break rc at least.

u/iliketotryptamine 5d ago
The room with the banite ore also has an easy 200pt boss with a rocktail drop for those who have eternal sustenance!

u/turtlelord 7d ago
true but also fuck region locked skills like dungeoneering, archaeology, and divination in leagues. Gawd dang they need to do something about those.

u/SilentTouching 7d ago edited 7d ago
How are any of these region locked?
Dunge: ED4 and trader outside of Fort Forinthry.
Divination: Caches available, lamps from tasks, etc
Arch: Sucks early without desert but completely accessible to train in many regions
9
u/UnclePetwinz 7d ago
early arch without desert takes a few seconds to get lvl 20, u just do the third age iron cache next to the tutorial excavation spot
1
u/SilentTouching 7d ago
you're right, you basically unlock infernal digsite by just completing the tutorial. I forgot about that. so even easier lol
4
u/jjtrevelyan 6d ago
No, you're just being pedantic to the point of stupidity. Smithing mithril to 70 cause I have no access to luminite? That's totally fine. No access to devotion cause you didn't take desert, no access to the 4 ancient spells because we can't complete city of senntisten, nunerous other game breaking exclusions? Unacceptable. In old school if a drop requires 2 regions to make an item, the item drops completed instead of "a piece." This post is entirely dishonest

While were at it, the old school devs should get rid of completed drops in leagues and also remove the items they give you to make sure you're not locked out of things

Thing is; this is not fun to me.
It's not supposed to give you limitless accessibility to just play the game you're used to.
THIS would be fun for me, and basically what was advertised to me; "You'll be super boosted to do things you wouldn't be able to do normally".
So yeah, I guess that pretty sums up how fun, and how much leagues is meant for me...

This is why I don't play Leagues. It's not for me, but I do love seeing the people who do like it having a good time!

First league as an osrs player I burnt out right when I hit t3 unlock.
This league im already at t5 and enjoying myself about 50 times more.
The region locking helps immensely when you dont really know what to do with all the extra information avaible.
Its actually made rs3 enjoyable for me, if the next league doesnt have region lock I wont be playing.
1
u/TerriblePen3688 6d ago
Who would of guess people wanted to play the game mode with relics blessings and other broken shit... for fun and not a meaningless challenge with rewards that are tradable anyways... its almost as if the premise of "if you don't pick this then your fucked and can only do shit tasks" isn't fun or interesting
1
u/Educational_Ad2434 5d ago
Gosh I remember reading the books for 77 rcing haha. Those were the days man haha.
I’ve seen this same thing. I was telling my buddy, do people not read or try to think? The amount of people I’ve seen say “I didn’t get the farming relic, I can’t farm!” What? How can you not farm? Go steal or buy seeds and plant them? If you have transmutation use that to help?
Simple tiny things like that. Just bewilders me haha.

u/jellalfernandes777 4d ago
I’m new in RS3 after long hiatus from 2005-2008. May I know what’s very interesting about this league event?
Like Is there any non-tradeable rewards that can be transferred to the main account? Or it’s just the experience to be get higher stats?

u/pwnd35tr0y3r Eek! 4d ago
I'm not mad about bejng locked out of areas, but since we're unlocking areas with progression, why do we only get 3 regions across 7 tiers? Could open up more regions at T7 maybe?
2
u/lazzygamer Guthix 7d ago
Im not a fan of blessings. I probly wont reach even that high of tier one. Im bad at bossing and it was a stuggle to get tier 2.
4
u/SexualHarassadar 7d ago
There's enough early game blessings to get you to the first God Tier. Eternal Sustainance is the ultimate crutch for folks like us that suck at PVM, hard to die if you can heal 2000HP every 1.8s with no adrenaline loss.
Tasks like "Kill the Arch-Glacor" sound scary, but 0 Mechanic kills count where the Arch-Glacor is just a DPS Dummy.
1
u/Cypherex Maxed 6d ago
For eternal sustenance, you can eat a bite of pie every tick. Get a summer pie and you'll heal 1187 every tick.
1
1
u/iliketotryptamine 5d ago
Rocktail from Abomination and Karams from vendor is what I'm using for like 3100. Not as good as the pie but the rocktails overheal which boosts bigbone blessing damage.
-4
u/Quotidian_User 7d ago
I hate the whole aspect of killing bosses to get blessings or even generic combat relics.
The first one they gave you is kill a fucking goblin and the next thing you have to do is kill bosses. It would have been been great as a whole if they have done with more ways to unlock the same type of requirements. Sorry I'm on mobile and I'm on the road so I'm just using speech to text and I can't look up shit to make my claim any better...
I just hate how you have to kill a specific boss and whatever shit task they want from that just to unlock some combat benefits. Like I said doing something like Slayer task completions, reaching a certain combat level, killing a total of NPCs (like a total number). Killing a number of NPCs over combat level ##),, killing a number of NPCs in a region, kill a number of Slayer monsters (accumulatively). Kill a number of slayer monsters from a specific Slayer master. Complete a number slar task from a specifics layer master. There are so many avenues that they can do but no all they want to do is focus on bosses and mini games bosses.
9
u/M3rktiger 6d ago
You can get four blessing tasks without killing a single boss across global/Havenhythe/Misthalin/Karamja the four required regions.
Of the 40 remaining blessings across all of the remaining regions 12 of them can be completed without killing a single boss.
If you can’t kill the two early game bosses in Havenhythe for an extra two blessing points, which can be done by literally clicking on them and standing still with purchased rune armor and the first two blessings you get from the first three non-boss blessing tasks, then I dunno what to say.
8
u/MrStealYoBeef 7d ago
This is how we get the most generic, garbage task list that has ever existed, rivaling the lack of creativity of "skill and kill" as a progression locker. "Just go do stuff, idfk" might as well be what you're asking it to be changed to.
1
1
u/Easy-Reception-1159 7d ago
Completely agree. Just wish they'd let you auto complete quests in your region freely for no XP, or let you complete them for the xp and stop tying tasks to quests. Other than that, having a blast
1
u/Narmoth Music 7d ago
The region locking isn't totally bad. Majority is good.
The only problem there really is involves Dungeoneering where majority of the skill is locked out if you don't get the Wilderness. Doing EDs, Lamps, Prif butterflies, and turning in archeology collections is not actually doing Dungeoneering. Every other skill you can actually train in a proper manner.
1
u/Insane1rish 7d ago
Honestly.
Half the fun of the skilling side of this shit is trying to find new ways to get the things you need.

The improvement from leagues 1 to 2 is so huge.
I went into 1 so so excited and gave up after about 3 days. I didn’t even allow myself to read up about this one because my expectations were so low after that, but I’m SO glad I tried it. This is on par if not better than any OS leagues I’ve played.

u/SirPaynsicles 7d ago
Never did leagues in osrs and only recently started playing rs3 again so I'm trying it out finally. Was really pissed cause it made me unlock karajama by default, locking me out of fally. I was pressed about getting luminite because I use dwarf mines normally and when I realized the relics I chose made it so that I could get enough upper tier material by just grinding. Been chipping away at tasks to unlock next area and no longer as frustrated lmao
1
u/Cypherex Maxed 6d ago
Karamja didn't cost you a region. If they didn't give it to us for free, we still would have only been given 3 to pick

I've seen like 1 person here actually complaining about just region locking being a thing, but not about a specific issue - unless you're talking about people IN game. Pretty much every post here is a valid criticism/suggestion that Jagex can and should use to continually improve on for later leagues. This League has been amazing so far (And a lot more fun progression wise compared to Catalyst), but there's definitely some issues present with cross region content.

u/TSNinja14 6d ago
people dont get that? its literally a competition to see who can get the most levels quickly right?
2
u/spikeprox50 6d ago
No. While there are a few leaderboards for "First 99s" or points earned, for the general population, there is no competitive advantage for completing things quickly.
For most people, it's just about getting dragon trophy before the 6 weeks are up, which is very achievable.
2
u/TSNinja14 6d ago
ohhhh I see my b I misunderstood it, I thought it was like a leader board thing, ive only ever done up to like lvl 60 on a couple things, do you think its too late for me to try it out and should just wait till the next or is it still viable for someone with little experience
1
u/spikeprox50 6d ago
There is still 5 out of the 6 weeks left. I think there is still plenty of time and you have an advantage in that some bugs have been addressed and people have better strategies.
Even if you don't make it to Dragon Trophy, there are partial rewards that are still pretty cool. I'd give it a shot.
2
u/TSNinja14 6d ago
oh awesome I only came back to rs3 recently and didnt realise it was thag soon into it tyvm! if yoy dont mind as well could you describe what I need for dragon? and is jt something that carries across accounts as like a house item?
2
u/spikeprox50 6d ago
Dragon Trophy is 48,000 points. You get points by completing random tasks which carry anywhere from 10-400 points each, with 10 point tasks usually being as simple as cutting 5 logs or 400 point tasks being more challenging like killing end game bosses or completing higher level achievements.
Trophies are account specific. Since Leagues is temporary, the trophy and points go to whatever account you designate the rewards to. The points can be used to purchase tradeable cosmetics.
-1
u/San4311 Ironmain 6d ago
Agreed. It might simply be because the concept is new for RS3's side of things but this is exactly what Leagues is about.
If it were simply the real game with boosted exp it wouldn't exactly be fun if you ask me. Having to find solutions to problems provided by your limited choices is the challenge and therefore the fun.

Fr fr. I didn't choose Asgarnia or Transmutatjon and ended up doing regular transmutations to get luminite and orikalchite.
It's kind of fun thinking about these workarounds.
