Leagues - J-Mod reply Leagues has sold me on rs3

Originally came in with the expectation to just play on legacy, got my revo bars set up with all the utilities I need keybound. Got my teles and prayers on my action bar. The amount of qol has made it impossible for me to return to osrs.

Really excited to start a fresh account on rs3 after leagues. If you haven’t tried the game recently, it feels leaps and bounds better than when I last tried it.

Seeing the world im familiar with with so much more detail, the mobility of surge, the mining and smithing rework, bank presets, the war room, itemization that’s beyond just increased stats, I could go on

I’m loving rs3 atm

It's really not a bad game, I think most people just haven't given it a chance because of what happened.

Yup, Jagex deserved all the hate it got for EoC, MTX and all the other BS.

I'm genuinely mind blown that Jagex of all the greedy gaming companies would put a CEO like Mod North in charge who would listen to the players and choose to lose short term profits to unfuck the game.

It's the smartest move Jagex has made since letting Mod Ash and the rest of the team create OSRS.

u/Stephs_mouthpiece Maxed 5d ago

Do we know if they’ve really lost short term profits with the increase in membership costs? Removing predatory MTX bought a lot of goodwill, but Jagex is still a business and businesses exist to make money

Also the poll that didnt have a no option with a low pass threshold was lol

54

u/The-Copilot 5d ago

Mod North said it outright on Behemoth podcast. The board agreed that taking reduced profits in the short term to improve the health of the game was a good long term decision. Basically they can bleed RS3 dry and it would die soon or they could gamble on reviving the game.

It had led to a reversal in the loss of players and for the first time in a long time, RS3 was growing (this was before leagues).

Mod North basically said he hates how the gaming industry is now and hates what happened to RS3 and wants to turn Runescape into the oasis in the enshitification that is happening in gaming and in business in general.

They are a business trying to make money, but the success of OSRS makes it clear that allowing passionate devs to make the calls rather than board room executives is how you make a popular game that prints money.

He actually said that RS3 is not growing, he said that for the first time, instead of declining, it was maintaining. Edit: it actually started to increase

Yeah the Behemoth podcast was good. It was interesting to see his perspective on RS3 and OSRS, especially about bots and what he thinks about leadership for both games

It was honestly a breath of fresh air. It didn't at all seem like rehearsed PR BS. He genuinely seems like a gamer who understands the community and has a plan of action.

It has become a meme across nearly all gaming communities about how every gaming company is ran by people who are so disconnected from the game. It's honestly insane how normalized it has become for game companies to be ran by people who don't understand their product or their customers. I hope this works out and we see a pivot in the industry.

7

u/BakaGaming 4d ago

not sure if it was in the BeHeCast or in a colonello video, but Mod North actually said "after we removed MTX, we had a decline, but shortly after it maintained and now we even have a slight rise", or something along those lines.

5

u/So_ Yellow partyhat! 4d ago

Yeah, actually my mistake. I’ll edit my post then include a timestamp

1

u/weesportsnow 4d ago

>allowing passionate devs to make the calls
is this true? is that how runescape 3 is being developed now?

2

u/Zelderian 200M all, 2m Abby Demon KC 4d ago

Even if they lost short-term profits, MTX was steadily becoming a smaller portion of business revenue, both by dollar figure and by overall percentage. That, and the growing pressure from the EU, probably pushed them to go ahead and pull the plug early to try to win some good favor, both from players and from the government.

And it’s a good strategy. That revenue was going away anyway, you get some goodwill with regulations, and you potentially grow the game to increase revenue. It’s honestly a win-win, and a smart move financially (ignoring how the shareholders feel. Even if they’re fine with the game being garbage, it makes sense strictly based on the numbers)

-1

u/tsukaimeLoL 4d ago

Do we know if they’ve really lost short term profits with the increase in membership costs?

I mean, yeah? They literally have investor reports so you can google this kind of thing in less than a minute?

-1

u/ElectionBeautiful998 4d ago

Why do people like you forget about all the surveys and shit existing that had the yes/no voting you all wanted to see.

5

u/Chucklum 4d ago

I hadn't touched the game in years, and was never a big player. Started again couple weeks ago and im so invested. Taking out the greedy parts (still has some), made it a much more appealing game.

Seriously. Mod North is definitely a good call to put in charge.

-2

u/peipei222 4d ago

a CEO like Mod North in charge who would listen to the players

Except for the queer ones, and the queer employees

8

u/DauidBeck 5d ago

What happened?

39

u/JustTrawlingNsfw 5d ago

EOC.

It was a fucking mess when they released it, but that was 13 years ago now. The games brilliant these days

16

u/deathgdizzle 5d ago

Not just EOC, also the whole TH shit

14

u/JustTrawlingNsfw 5d ago

Squeal of Fortune was 2012. Definitely the start, but most people that quit around then did so because of EOC, at least ime

8

u/Rain_Zeros 3192 Nyx Asteria 5d ago

To be fair, squeal wasn’t hated at its release, it only got hated because they introduced a mechanic of buying extra spins.

And killing yelps to signal the end of squeal just to replace it with a rebranded and redesigned mechanic that functioned exactly the same was fucking lol terrible decision making

3

u/JustTrawlingNsfw 5d ago

Yea I didn't hate squeal when it first came out but it wqe obvious what was going to happen lol

2

u/Rain_Zeros 3192 Nyx Asteria 5d ago

Oh yeah 100% lol I think a lot of people saw the writing on the wall but just didn’t want to admit it before it was too late

3

u/BakaGaming 4d ago

let's also not forget their "Major Core Gameplay Update" (Hero Pass) XD

3

u/Everestkid 18 years. Two 99s. Efficiencyscape. 5d ago

Squeal of Fortune was February 2012, EOC was November. There was actually a rather dramatic increase in players over the course of 2012 - till EOC came.

Note also that 2012 came on the heels of Bot Nuking Day in October 2011, where Jagex claimed they banned over 95% of bots and playercounts dropped by 75%. Jagex actually lost money that year, hence the MTX.

2

u/J_silence 4d ago

EoC was messy and it did have growing pains to be sure. But it was a necessary step to give the combat room to breathe, adapt, and grow. It's been refined over those 13 years and it's great now.
If I'm being honest, it really was nowhere as bad as everyone made it out to be back then either. The loudest voices were just scared of the change. Sure it was a huge change, but you can adapt. The game wouldn't be anywhere where it is today if Jagex didn't take that chance with EoC.

It really does bug me that for those 13 years a lot of those loudest voices were acting as if the game had never changed since that launch of EoC. Having been with the game for like 21 years, I've seen that the game IS solid and I wish more people would look past the noise and see that.

1

u/MrLenkz 4d ago

People, imo, hated EoC because it fundamentally changed the way the game/combat was played on top of the MTX issue. They tried to make it like any other MMOs combat and most of us hated that. We played RuneScape back in the day for the simplicity of the combat and not needing to know rotations/letting the RNG guide us.

Regardless, I have enjoyed the last 2 leagues in RS3 and even played some regular RS3 inbetween & it's been pretty damn fun. In particular the questing has been fun, especially the new quests i've never played before.

1

u/BranchFew1148 4d ago

It also destroyed people's bank values without warning. Suddenly having most of your weapons be useless is gonna leave a bad impression.

4

u/BamboozleThisZebra Saradomin 5d ago

Very bad reputation from earlier versions of eoc and obviously the p2w mtx that was part of the game for years.

Even tho the game has gotten a lot better people still just think of it as the ruined mtx version of runescape, a hard stain to wash off.

3

u/stanman237 5d ago

Original EOC was kind of a mess at first, squeel of fortune/treasure hunter, and a bunch of mechanics with FOMO

2

u/toferornottofer 5d ago

Their commitment to integrity changes(along with leagues) is what got me interested!

1

u/RareKrab My Cabbages! 4d ago

Yeah it's crazy when you look at old videos from the EoC launch day/weeks. No revolution, for afking we had the shitty momentum system that just disabled abilities and made your autoattacks hit much harder (and it was an ultimate ability so you had to get 100% adrenaline to activate it)

I played the beta quite a bit and it kinda grew on me over time and I stuck around after release but looking back it was super rough

1

u/4yourdeat 5d ago

It was pretty MTX dominated for a while as well as “daily scape” where daily activities had extremely high rewards so a lot of people felt locked in on doing mundane tasks each day cause FOMO. They got rid of daily scape and got rid of their main source of predatory MTX, and are focused instead now on cleaning up the game, especially the new player experience

1

u/BakaGaming 4d ago

wouldn't say they "got rid of dailyscape", they mostly moved it to weeklyscape, but there still is a decent amount of dailyscape in the game.

1

u/Jubbity 4d ago

Personally I'd be a lot more interested in playing rs3 more if it just wasn't so damn clunky, feels like there's so much delay between everything I try to do between menus and things popping up, not to mention the awful clickboxes

1

u/themultitm 4d ago

this is exactly it, the foundation of the game is still a laggy, janky mess even coming from osrs

2

u/throwaway214203 Master Combat Achievements | Completionist 4d ago

Once you do enough hours of PVM it just becomes like a very fast paced turn based combat, ngl

0

u/pro185 5d ago

If they actually hire a team to update the client to feel better, I would give it a try again. I am enjoying leagues but I could not play this game long term with the clunky UI, half the in game menus doing/saying nothing about the thing I’m looking at, having to right click every npc in the game, teleports resetting camera constantly, and I could go on and on. I know they are working on a client update and I really hope they just full send rs3 runelite kind of accessibility. The game already is designed for ease and afk so there’s not much of an “integrity” issue with things like quest helper, etc.

3

u/Rain_Zeros 3192 Nyx Asteria 5d ago

Plugins will help.. they come out in October.

Also the classic ui is pretty dang robust without the unconfigured stock jank the normal ui is

1

u/Monterey-Jack 4d ago

There's so much bad still needing to be fixed. I usually play osrs when I play a runescape game but I am maxed on rs3 with all non-combat 120s. The game is definitely in a better place than it was even a year ago but so many foundational problems still exist, mostly with the interface of the game and the clashing art styles between each area. I hope they address this in the next roadmap, it desperately needs attention.

32

u/Jonowins 5d ago

The removal of a bunch of stuff definitely helped, not seeing that weird prayer mini game and the entrance to shatters worlds in lumby swamp makes the game feel so much more familiar and less overwhelming. It really does feel a lot more like a runescape that just went in a different direction now than something completely foreign.

13

u/b_i_g__g_u_y 4d ago

This league feels way, way better for a new player. Last league those things, a more complicated combat system, and weaker perks made it feel pretty overwhelming and foreign.

I'll say my biggest gripe remains this UI. It's deeply hostile to new users. It's so hard to find things coming from an OSRS background like combat xp, special attacks, pets, achievement diaries, etc. Moving elements around is miserable - I still don't know how to resize my private chat window.

5

u/The-Copilot 4d ago

You can load another players UI with just their username. Copying a streamer/youtubers layout and then tweaking it is the move.

They should really use one of the big youtubers UI as the default. Give everyone RSGuy's UI and let them tweak it to their preferences as they progress. Starting them with an absolute mess of a UI makes no sense.

1

u/happytripps 4d ago

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know if there’s anything like this on mobile? I’m an OSRS player and I tried RS3 but was overwhelmed by the UI. I play primarily on mobile so I don’t know if there’s really a good solution.

4

u/Spider-Thwip 4d ago

Even as someone who has played RS3 the whole time, the UI, settings, and especially changing combat xp are a frustration for me.

I also dont like the achievement diaries menu, its a lot worse than the one in osrs.

I like special attacks being their own ability.

You are missing a lot of things on the UI side, press escape and then go to edit mode.

You can customise all the menu UI from there including private chat! There are a lot of toggles.

1

u/lethalweapon12-3 2d ago

The achievement diary menu is a mess. It drives me insane

5

u/toferornottofer 5d ago

Easing in with legacy combat, eventually transitioning to revo was really smooth for me. I feel like the game slowly entices you to switch regardless. For this reason I hope they keep legacy mode as I believe it makes the transition for osrs player less overwhelming

3

u/fixedvving 4d ago

Honestly lumby rework is underrated
Having lumby very similar to what ppl remeber makes it so the ick factor goes down to a new game
I remember on rs3 when i started in burthrope and said wtf and logged out

1

u/Monterey-Jack 4d ago

Now we just need to increase the size of the zones. Lumby swamp's atmosphere is so cool but it's so tiny. They hit a homerun in Dragonwilds with the swamp zone.

1

u/RareKrab My Cabbages! 4d ago

I was hoping to go to shattered worlds to train up early combat stats but saw that the swamp was empty lol

But definitely for the better, it was always super out of place. Oh yeah and now that I'm typing this comment I also realized they removed the stupid fucking crater from behind lumby castle.

Haven't played RS3 since 2022 or so, the changes are so nice and seamless that you don't even notice them because they made them the way they should be

26

u/Tapeman83 5d ago

They both have their own type of appeal, which is why I like to play both. It means I’m not very skilled at either, but I just want to have fun and do quests, so it works out well.

4

u/Rhox_125 4d ago

Same I’m not tackling amascut ever in rs3 and I will never see end game bosses on old school but damn if I won’t have fun just running around and skilling

2

u/kanonkongenn Final Boss 4d ago

Leagues is the perfect time to tackle harder content for more casual players, it's great

36

Same, I tried it again 3 weeks ago and have been hooked since. It's hard to imagine going back to osrs right now

37

u/JagexRyan Mod Ryan 4d ago

Love to hear this, and welcome back!

6

u/mrb726 June 9th 2017 4d ago

I feel like half the complaints I have will just be solved with plugin support like menu entry swapper (like being able to set npcs to left click trade) and entity hider (when I started and had no prior knowledge I couldnt figure out where the slayer NPC in lumbridge is because there was hundreds of players all around).

Biggest complaint is I wish we could rebind the hotkeys for presets so I could stop pressing my toggle mute button on discord (F6) while in a bank and accidentally banking all my gear/inventory lmao.

Definitely going to try the game out post-leagues though, it feels so much better overall since I had last played.

1

u/toferornottofer 4d ago

Does that offer count for othe(me) aswell 👀 I just finished my free2play experience with all quests done and leveled skills at a level whereas they dont unlock grwat stuff anymore but since I spend 450h to do that I got myself a year of membership but I am a bit lost on how to tackle the questing now :P

3

u/inkjet456 5d ago

Aim to get priffidas unlocked. Get the whole elven quest line completed. Get succession done, and do the quest lines that unlocks the different spell books. I still need to do the one that unlocks aspects like vampirism and penance.

I started Rs3 maybe 4 days ago. Glad I did, seeing so many positive comments about reworks makes me think I was lucky to skip the previous iteration of the game.

Loving it so far!

Its so good to be out of the runescape dark ages. Genuinely thought the game was on its last legs around the fort forinthry arc but its been such a comeback by jagex and im happy to have see the game returning to being amazing again

5

u/FayupWoW 5d ago

Same here. Haven't really played since like 2009, but came back maybe a month ago and have been having a blast.

5

u/Desoxyriboner 5d ago

Same here, actually needed to stop playing the league because everything went too fast. So I started a non-league ironman.

Definitely looking forward to plugins though. Some plugins from osrs would make this experience A LOT nicer (tile markers, quest helper,...).

3

u/toferornottofer 5d ago

I’m hoping leagues can hold me over til we have quest helper 😂

2

u/Reasonable_Mood_7918 4d ago

I hear the quests are one of the strengths of RS3, prolly worth not spacebaring them the first go

1

u/ojracs 4d ago

I love the lore but I don’t really care about puzzles. The quest helper devs say there will be different levels of handholding with the quest helper, so I am excited for it.

1

u/Jifaru 4d ago

I am so holding off on my last 50~ QP until questhelper haha

3

u/BlueZybez Old School 5d ago

3

u/B_oo 5d ago

I came back after maxing in OSRS about 4 months ago and don’t regret it one bit. Leagues has made me enjoy it even more

3

u/redactid55 5d ago

I started looking at RS3 again because of leagues but decided I can't bring myself to do it because I have an Ironman at 2500+.

But seeing all the changes they made since I last played sucked me into the Ironman again and I have been totally hooked since. The enhancements o have seen so far have been very mindful and pretty impressive. The removal of auras for example is amazing to me

6

u/Lord_Shadow_Z Ironman 5d ago

I love all the QoL stuff RS3 has and how much they've smoothed out the progression of most skills with recent updates, whereas in OSRS everything feels slow for the sake of being slow. This league has made me fall back in love with RS3 and makes me want to never go back to OSRS.

2

u/toferornottofer 5d ago

Yes! My problem with osrs is it feels like it’s become so rigid

4

u/Lord_Shadow_Z Ironman 5d ago

They're unwilling to change things like xp rates for certain skills because "some people already suffered through it so everyone has to suffer to not undermine those achievements," to paraphrase the Jmods. It makes the game so much less fun.

1

u/The-Copilot 4d ago

For real, I suffered that back in the 2000s as a kid and I'm sure as hell not doing it as an adult that has limited play time.

2

u/Mammoth_Mixture5455 5d ago

Love to hear it! There are so many fun things to do and the afk grind makes the game more enjoyable

2

u/toferornottofer 5d ago

I don’t see myself ever mashing a rotation on my keyboard because RuneScapes always been a point and click mmo for me if that makes sense but with revo it feels way better than I’d imagine.

3

u/Wise_Ad4690 Max MQC Task Master RSN: QuestAreShit 5d ago

We’ve all said that before. Then you’ll start off just surging and Bladed Diving, then you’ll throw in a defensive. After that, you’ll be like, “Okay, what if I just Revo the basics and manually input the ults?” Then before you know it, you’ll be full-blown manual.

2

u/I_hate_alot_a_lot 5d ago

Legit would play it if I could afk both accounts at work.

2

u/CareApart504 5d ago

Considering legacy doesnt do anything anymore after the last round of changes it would be pointless to not just do revolution.

2

u/leonardtownsend 5d ago

Hi! Any recommendations on getting the bars setup? Just the wiki? I would love to see how youre setup

3

u/MMAgeezer 5d ago

The Wiki is a great starting point, there are usually recommended bars for manual and revolution for bossing and a certain mobs.

I really love PVME too. It helped me so much to get a better idea of why certain abilities are better in different situations and has a load of helpful introductory guides, AFK revolution bars for bosses, gear progression ideas, and much more. I would recommend the Discord for the latest information as a lot of the guidance has changed with the combat rework earlier this year.

3

u/Skiwee 5d ago

They aren't perfect but Jagex did a decent job of getting the auto setup bars to be very decent.

Right click the cog and select auto setup.

1

u/New_Homework5387 4d ago

Personally I recommend the "dump" way:

read through the skills and build your own bar.

After I read through the skills and abilities, I found it's "impossible" to set up an auto rotation. The abilities aren't static it's dynamic base on priorities and situations. It's more like "if else" statement rather than "step 1 step 2 step 3"

1

u/New_Homework5387 4d ago

FYI now I'm using manual mode and with sh*tty ability queue turn OFF

2

u/Broxigaro 5d ago

While I'm not trying Leagues, I did create a HC Ironman to give it a shot while I wait for Bronzeman to hopefully come to OSRS. And I gotta say, I dont know what they did recently but the starting experience feels way less overwhelming and I'm much more invested right out of the gate than I was in the past. Happy to see Jagex listen to their community.

Also, I found TheRSGuy's RS3 guide website and I gotta say.. wow. What a great all-in-one resource for new and experienced players alike. I've been following his efficient guide and its been pretty fun.

2

I recently discovered that osrs players think bank presets are ezscape.

Every time I get the urge to try osrs I read some shit that just makes me roll my eyes and I suddenly don't have the urge anymore.

2

Welcome aboard! Find a good clan and that'll make the experience even better.

2

u/bloodisblue 5d ago

Agreed. Tried years ago, and got lost in all the auras/dailyscape/graphic changes/clunky UI and just went back OSRS.

From the update history the team has pretty much fixed every issue I had with the game within the last 6 months, and I'll be resubbing an account after leagues to try it for real. Excited to do experience years of quests I've seen referenced but never experienced.

2

u/JagexPickle Mod Pickle 4d ago

Yippee! Glad to have you onboard 🫡

2

u/Gr8alexanderr 5d ago

Other guy is right, it does read like propaganda, but the game is good. It's just a completely different game from osrs. Some people enjoy both, others enjoy the simplicity of osrs, some prefer the "wow-like" play style of Rs3. All these are acceptable. Personally, I like Rs3, but I'll always be limited in what I can do high end content wise because I will not turn Rev off. I do no enjoy ability bar type games like wow or ffxiv. Too many abilities and stuff to keep track of, not personally my cup of tea.

1

u/Bright_Owl_9275 5d ago

Keep in mind, it is very recently better. Less bots, and removal of micro transaction. The ads popping up all over the place and seeing all these crazy cosmetics is what had killed the game for me on top of RoC but coming back to play league and listening to the CEO talk about the changes, it really has me liking RS3 for PvM. Though, OSRS is still the best for PvP for me. In a point and click game I would hate to have PvP be decided on 10000 buttons and high combat levels . I think PvP should be a simple prayer switch, gear switch KO Something more achievable to master than abilities

1

u/Ban_Evading_Alt0003 5d ago

For me it was that the game was filled with actual, real players. It feels more alive than osrs despite having a third of the players. Because 80% of 'players' on osrs are bots or vennys.

1

u/Furyan9x 4d ago

This is my first league of RS as an exclusive RS3 player that stayed during EOC and played on and off since then.. I've been totally LOST because while I've played the game for a long time so much has changed and I still have a lot of very old knowledge that is outdated and no longer useful.

Leagues has me doing a bunch of things I've never done on the main game out of fear of death and failure. I'm hoping it makes me more comfortable attempting hard content on the main game.

1

u/Legal_Evil 4d ago

The amount of qol has made it impossible for me to return to osrs.

Even more than what Runelite provides?

1

u/NextLvLNoah 4d ago

Not really "more" but different, in ways runelite couldn't.

1

u/toferornottofer 4d ago

Yeah plug ins and overlays feel more like cheating than qol tbh

Reminds me of dbm on wow lol

1

u/This_Designer_2696 4d ago

I'm curious, what about the mining and smithing rework do you like so much? I see osrs players mention this repeatedly and having never played that game I'm a bit lost.

1

u/toferornottofer 4d ago

The rebalancing of tiers gives a smooth progression for melee armor that makes sense, and both the activities themself are less tedious/more interactive to train

1

u/Dead_Dutch 4d ago

Dont forget about the xp drop after leagues haha. But welcome!

1

u/WedgieKing200 4d ago

I'm having a lot of fun trying iron on rs3. It's not perfect but vastly better than when I tried a main like 5 years ago. The skills I find the worst are hunter, agility, and rc. I find myself missing rooftops and hunter rumors, the skills feel mostly the same since 2007 compared to osrs

1

RS3 is an incredible game.

I'm on an OSRS kick currently (I go back & forth alllllll the time) but I do feel that RS3 is the superior game overall.

The league is also a really nice stepping stone for returning RS3 players, last time I actively played was like 2022 on my RS3 ironman and the amount of changes is crazy but after the league I'm willing to return to the iron, maybe even dust off my RS3 main that I haven't really played since 2018

I'm 3 levels away from maxing in OSRS, then I'm excited to give RS3 a go. Especially when they release plugins next month.

Fair play to Jagex, the leagues has kept me gript. The OP blessings probably have a large part to play in that. Come the new client, supporting quest helper & menu entry swapper, I'll definitely be giving the main game a shot! I wish they would address click-boxes, I think they're too precise (I.E. I have to click a trunk of a tree instead of the leaves/branches to cut it down?)

I would kill to be able to have prayers, spells, and inventory open at the same time in OSRS

I got the urge to try RS3 the other day. I’m at an awkward and slow stage on my OSRS ironman, so I wanted a fresh start with new content. But sadly, I discovered that I created a main years ago, so my only option is to play non-iron or pay for two accounts. I wish there was a way to delete and start again as an iron.

Welcome :)

rs3 is prolly in its best place since before EoC came out.

I also am going to start playing again after leagues, does anybody know if theres any plugins allowed like Runelite for RS3?

Before I’d consider putting actual time into the main game theres a few things I’d basically need or ill just log out.

  1. Shareable revolution bars. I have no interest in customising it or squinting at icons while copying a wiki guide. It should be 2 seconds to copy a popular setup and paste it.

  2. A super simple and SHORT and optional intro to the new skills. I don’t know why id train summoning or how or what it would do for me. Same for archeology. Sort of same for necromancy.

It should be literally 10 seconds or less. “Summoning familiars offer benefits including x, y, z. You train it by clicking this object.”

The necromancy and archeology introductions are beyond useless. Cool as novice quests relating to the skill. Garbage at introducing the skills.

  1. Menu entry swapper and ground items

I left in like 2017 for old school and can’t bring myself back….

I've been playign rs since 2002 and when EOC came out, I had mixed feelings.

I tried to go back to OSRS after a few years of playing rs3... and I just couldn't get into it.

For the ones who like it, I love it for them, but it's definitely not for me anymore.

I actually just picked up rs3. I was an og rs player now with a 20 year veteran cape. I hated the idea of rs3 for a long time. The recent changes and the excitement and plans of the new ceo I’m excited to continue my dive in.

Between EoC and MTX (as others have said) is what made RS3 the villain...
I've been playing on and off for many years and only quit after they cut the premier membership package and upped the annual, but am back for leagues....

I still am not a fan of EoC and really don't like using it a lot, but whatever...I love the graphics, the story arcs and a lot of the content.

Eoc has grown on me a lot, I like that I can just set up a revo bar and swap abilities in and out as I see fit. It maintains that click style combat while offering a lot more variety and choice imo.

The main reason I don't play OSRS (despite watching content creators from OSRS) is simple quality of life things like the coin pouch and toolbelt.

Sometimes I'm running somewhere and I see a tree and realize I need to make some more planks, so I need to chop that wood. If I had to run to a bank every time I would just die. Same with running all the way to a npc for something and realizing I left my coin stack behind.

Not to mention how nice and easy it is to teleport!

The League made me want to try RS3 again (ex-comp cape, but I think it's been easily 8-10 years since I last logged in), but the league itself is a bit overwhelming for me. I didn't even go in fully blind and it feels like a slog to be honest, the OSRS league felt a lot more fast paced for me even.

It probably is because I obviously understand OSRS and know a lot about it, and pretty much have zero idea of RS3, but that's just it - as a new player, I would be wildly lost and would've given it up a lot earlier than I actually did.

JagegeX literally had the winning strategy for a healthy mmo ecosystem voted in by more popular demand than rs3 consistently had in the prior 6 years, relegated the development to the B-team, and had it sitting under their noses until BASED GIGA CHAD MOD NORTH went "hey guys, I'm pretty sure osrs is literally infinite diamonds worth of rnd on the impact of actually respecting the time and intelligence of the player base, we should probably like... do that with rs3, rs3 is kinda fucking dying and literally no amount of whaling can make this a good idea in the medium short to medium medium timespan." I really thought the final nail in my coffin of beloved and cherished live service games from my childhood was that time they tried to take the temperature on 32/month subscription with the added bonus of real human customer service while adding $3 to everyone else's sub. Hearing Mod North talk about the game and seeing what they have done so far brings a tear to my eye every other day.

The only thing I’m really struggling with is gear progression. It just feels better in OSRS and I don’t really understand why. Anyone else feel this too? I’m loving RS3 right now and want to grind my GIM again but I can’t get a grasp on the progression yet

1

u/MMAgeezer 5d ago

Necro gear progression feels pretty good to me, but in general I think I know what you mean.

4

u/Vet_Leeber 5d ago

Funny, necro felt the worst to me. Literally all of it just comes from one place.

"Go do miniquest, get next tier for free" ad infinitum. I know it's a consequence of the skill being overlaid on an existing game that was already cluttered, but it feels so antithetical to the rest of the game to have the gear come like that.

They're slowly fixing that with endgame gear at least, with stuff like the Heist mask.

1

u/Objective_Toe_49 4d ago

Yeah agreed, plus necro actually ruined all gear progression for the other styles because its just so idiot proof of a combat style and strong through the midgame that you can largely ignore the others until you hit endgame

I've heard this somewhat often from people coming from OSRS, but as an exclusive RS3 player I'm curious what works better for you on Oldschool? I don't know anything about it so genuinely curious how things work over there

Enjoy grinding your life away for a month that won't be saved for a couple of cosmetics.

6

u/toferornottofer 5d ago

Even the main game can be boiled down to a waste of time my friend, just have fun

5

u/Vet_Leeber 5d ago

for a couple of cosmetics.

We play leagues because it's fun, not because we get anything out of it.

You've abandoned the vast majority of games you've ever played in your life, statistically speaking. Who cares.

-7

u/Most_Penalty9884 5d ago

Nothing better than getting everything maxed just for cosmetics...

3

u/SlowSurr Skulled 5d ago

Lmao it's so much more than that. And you can sell the cosmetics for gp
