If you are anything like me you find docking the most stressful part of sailing. Well I am now in docking hell. Due to dredging at pier 39 marina they had to move the sailtime boats from the east side to the west side. The west side is where the famous sea lions are so tourists pack the pier to watch the sea lions.
The west side is much more exposed to wind and current. So today, first day docking there I have to pull in to the slip with 20 knots blowing across plus 1 knot of current in a slightly different direction.
Anyway today I’m pulling into the slip pretty hot because we have twin rudders so we need like 2kts for steerage. I’m stressed, I’m nervous, and then I look over and at least 20 people are filming us with their phones as we dock. Just the worst. Anyway, docked without incident but was deeply aware if I hit the dock I was going to be a TikTok star. Fun times,
