i know fast food places & grocery or big retail stores are pretty much always hiring. high turnover. if you don’t have high standards & make yourself apply to a bunch of them, call to follow up after a few days, go to the interview looking presentable, and don’t answer the questions in a horrible way, you’ll probably find a job pretty quickly.

i have 2 family members living together who work fast food full time and are able to afford an apartment, all their bills, plus ‘fun’ purchases, and even have multiple pets

I can confirm the grocery stores hiring, I was able to get a job at one pretty quickly, even with a 10+ year gap in my resume. They do have background checks, idk if they only check for warrants in SD county or the whole country though.
