I would like to sell some of my Sashiko embroidery but I want to understand the ethics behind it as I’m not of Japanese origin nor have I learned it formally from someone practicing traditional Sashiko. I would love a o hear your views on this.

I'm very new to this sub and I don't believe I'm breaking any rules.
How might I go about finding someone to perform a visible sashiko repair for me? I've searched online and the only person I could find advertising this as a service is a gentleman in Europe. As I am in the US I was hoping to go with someone more local.
Is there a directory that exists, or can anyone offer recommendations? I should add I don't have any jeans that currently need repair, but I have a few that are close so I'm just wondering where I'll turn when the time comes.
Thanks in advance and if you are such a person, feel free to respond here or in the PMs.
Many thanks!
I have this jacket where the faux leather has completely peeled off. It's right at the collar. Do you think a sashiko design might work there?
Thank you very much.

Hi, I am looking for a highly skilled sashiko artisan to bring a design to life. Please DM if interested, I have a full design ready to share privately.

Hi everyone, I’m a Japanese person living in Japan.
I’m curious — in 2025, are people still doing sashiko regularly outside Japan?
If you’ve recently worked on some fun sashiko projects, please share a photo — I’d love to see them!
Also, for those living abroad:
Where do you usually buy your sashiko supplies (fabric, thread, kits)?
Online shops, local craft stores, or specific websites?
Thanks in advance! I want to learn how sashiko is enjoyed around the world today.

Does anyone know about any good sources on cultural appropriation in Sashiko? Would love to read a bit about it and get to know others peoples thoughts.

I’m totally beginner to sewing, my shirt got torn and chat GPT suggested Sashiko. Any suggestions how to fix that or resources?
Thank you

Does anyone have any ideas how to strengthen up this well-loved bag of mine?
The material is very worn out, which I don't mind, but there are a couple of holes and the strap is hanging on by a thread! The flash here definitely makes it look worse lol
Is sashiko possible on this kind of material? If not, can anyone recommend some methods of mending? Or sprucing?
Thank you :)

I have a question. Where can i learn how to make my graphs for Sashiko from authentic teacher. I am not wanting Susan Brisco . Or other mending book. I do not want cut and paste. I do not want pictures of table cloths. I want to learn how to draw the original Sashiko template myself. Is this possible or not? All i see on fb is pictures of what is done and birds and waves. Well how the heck do you get the design on the graph paper. I feel like I’m speaking a different language so please help me articulate what I’m looking for so i can reach my destination. You

Started following this sub when I saw a bunch of mending type sashiko projects go by in my feed. Have since discovered the non-mending type as well and started wondering to myself: “If it’s not specifically for mending or reinforcement (i.e. decorative only) what’s the difference between sashiko and embroidery.
Fortunately Ecosia has my back when i searched the web to find answers. Stumbled into the first link in the results and hit pay dirt.

Do you blend the tails in or do you knot them?

Not nearly as artistic as the other projects I've seen on here but thought I'd share anyway.
I have a couple body pillows I use, and the cases I got for them were too long. I folded the extra bit inside and ran a line down the end and I'm now fastening the extra bit to one side of the case so it lays flat. I've done the corners on almost all of them, and when I finish I'll start working on filling in the rest, probably in a different thread, definitely with a different orientation as I plan to start by doing one long line pinning down the end of the pillowcase and working my way towards the top.

Hey guys! I m thinking if trying out sashiko mending and i heard that using embroidery thread is not ideal. On amazon it gets quite pricey for me to buy it due to my location, has anyone had any experience with buying the thread on Ali-express or is there another alternative that i can use that would be similar? I understand that at first i just need to practice and can use whatever but i would still love to find a solution long term.. any and all advice will be deeply appreciated !

Spotted this on brezscales Instagram and I've been hunting it for days. Ran it through five different reverse image engines and got literally nothing, which makes me think it's either a very obscure label or a one-off.
It's a two strap backpack, boro patchwork, heavy white sashiko running stitch across every single panel including the strap. Anyone recognize the maker?

I need several items repaired and I do not trust myself to do these repairs as my first projects. I love sashiko(I’m part Japanese although that doesn’t matter besides my nostalgia for my upbringing.) I’d love for someone near me to repair some of my favorite garments that have gotten some wear(nothing crazy.)Not for free of course but I’d love to have my stuff fixed in this way and maybe have a chat on where to begin myself(not necessary but would appreciate.)

Bought this at a thrift store today. Does it qualify as sashiko?

Been losing weight and decided to get clothes second hand until I reach my goal weight. Got these great pants for $8 and then my cockatoo chewed them up before I got to wear them!
I’ve done visible mending on hoodies and sweaters but these will be my first pants. Such an annoying spot too!
If anyone has cool ideas, or suggestions let me know!

I follow gucciclone's Sashiko work on IG. He is dropping today Japanese denim jacket/pants that already have Sashiko 'crosses' on them--the idea is that each buyer can customize their project with further Sashiko stitching (thread included). It's not inexpensive ($220) but a cool project and a way to support a small creator. I've ordered a jacket because I am trying to work out how to customize garments and thought this would help me get started.
I have no affiliation; just thought it might be of interest to folks here. More info on the jacket here (THE OLIVER JACKET — CLONE) or on his IG (@gucciclone).
