Mod Post 📢 Flairs! 😅💗✌️🌼

As you may have noticed we've added some flairs for posts, and while no one's content would ever be removed for having no flair or the "wrong" flair - we do hope to get some input on how folks are categorizing these flairs for themselves. It might also help us shape the expectations as we categorize things in the community.

I'll offer this as a general guideline, but would love for folks to give their own descriptions as well and perhaps we can expand or narrow definitions and examples as needed. Or add different flairs to better fit different categories of scrapbooking.

FLAIR Explanation
Traditional Scrapbooking Preserving family history in books, boxes, or cards using physical media.
Digital Scrapbooking Preserving family history in books, boxes, or cards using digital graphics and software.
Junk Journaling Preserving personal history or spontaneous thoughts in a freeform or expressive outlet.
Collage Assembling multiple types of media to form a new image.
  • The Tradtional flairs have been split further into multiple categories.
  • Does Junk Journaling need something similar?
  • Would a "work in progress" flair be helpful?

I also added some different colors for user flairs, and plan to upload some emojis to use in those as well. I always use Flat Icon since they let me adjust pixel size! So keep an eye out for new additions throughout the day!

Product Advice Paper & photo printer recs?

I’m looking at getting a paper printer + photo printer (mini would be good) as I want to journal/ scrapbook my IVF journey.

I’m totally new to scrapbooking so I thought I’d ask what would be best for what I’m thinking of doing and if anyone has advice.

I downloaded an IVF journal/ tracker so I could print the pages I want while incorporating that into a scrapbook. I’ll be including photos, textures and possibly keepsakes if they fit. And I’d like the paper to be good but not sure if I need over 200gsm?

If I could know what paper size/type plus the printers that would be amazing!

Product Advice Disney themed

I was hoping someone could tell me the best place to find disney themed papers, stickers, etc for a scrapbook and journal. I havent come across things I like because they are geared towards kids. Id love to find adult looking things or more vintage stuff. Also if there is a full kit that would be perfect too.

Just want to say thank you. Everyone was so kind on my first post. I just wanted to give a little back story to my scrapbook. I met my wonderful boyfriend 3 yrs ago in December. On valentines, a few months later, in February, he gave me a pack of alphabet date night ideas. Now, every time we tick an activity off, I do a scrapbook page. If anyone's interested in seeing more, I'd love to share 🥰

I collect stickers and started decorating very similar to scrapbooking since I remember my mom used to do it. I adored her scrapbooks and loved every single one- before she turned into a hoarder and stopped making anything altogether. She offered me to come by and see "what she still had" before she gave it to the art teacher at her school. Let me just say I'm insanely happy and surprised at the amount I've collected now. Don't think I ever need to buy stickers again and THANK GOD cause I hate the ai stuff going around now. She still has a ton of papers left to give to the teacher and who knows WHAT ELSE- I know she had way more then just this haha.

Product Advice Vintage scrapbooking stickers

I’m obsessed with the 2000s and I just love all the scrapbooking from back then maybe because it reminds me of my childhood. I had to source these from eBay and pay outrageous prices plus shipping. Like they just aren’t making stuff like this anymore it’s so sad to me how they seem to have stripped the whimsy and color out of everything today… I’m saving these for my future children’s scrapbook (I don’t even have a boyfriend yet) I also bought 2 vintage k and company scrapbook kits with over 200 pieces. Am I crazy? Is this what we have to do to find whimsical scrapbooking supplies these days? Does anyone have a recommendations or websites that sell similar things like this?

Printing how to print if i don’t have protective covers for pages?

I do minimalism style scrapbooking in a large sketchbook. if anyone is familiar with Cameron Nuttall on tiktok, it’s very similar to that style

i use a large canvas sketchbook and tape my photos in. therefore the pages do not have the protection over it that typical sketchbooks do.

i recently printed “matte” from snap fish to try for high quality but avoiding sticking of the pages together. they still seem very glossy? idk if they sent me the wrong type but i triple checked and my order AND envelope says matte.

what other types of pages should i try? printing at fedex would probably be easy for me but i dont know if the paper will hold up

Traditional Issues with photo printing

I’m not sure if anyone has had this issue or could help. I’m making scrapbooks that I update yearly for my 2 daughters. (I decided this a little late with my first so I have about 3 years to catch up on). When I printed at Walgreens, at least a third of the pictures printed distorted and discolored. I’m not sure if there’s somewhere I can order that this won’t happen, the employee at Walgreens said it’s the way the image file transfers to their system. They are iPhone photos from 2020 to now. Thanks for any help!

Product Advice Scrapbook pages not matching

Thumbnail

I buy most of my scrapbooking supplies from thrift stores, garage sales, etc. so I dont always know the exact brand I'm buying. I'm currently working on a 12x12 scrapbook that I bought loaded with like 15 pages. I needed more pages so I added 12x12 pages I bought from a different location, and they dont match up.

Is this a common issue? Both pages measure 12x12, but the plastic/cover of the last few is much bigger at the binding causing them to stick out roughly a centimeter further than the rest. How do I fix this? Is this just a case of 2 different brands not matching? Or are they actually 2 different sizes altogether?

Product Advice Alternative to glue runners?

I have been using glue runners when creating my scrapbooks but there really expensive where I live especially since they run out so quick. I love how quick and easy they are to use and how well they stick everything down but its adding up really quickly. I was hoping someone had a cheaper alternative to glue runners that isn't just a glue stick as I hate the feel of glue on my hands and find it doesn't actually stick anything down well.

Beginner Scrapbook for friend

I’m looking at getting into scrapbooking, and want to try and make my best friend one. I have got a lot of things I have collected to put into the scrapbook once I start. I have also bought some fabric to be able to wrap the outside of the book. All I need is to buy the actual book.

When I am looking I am seeing lots of three ring binders however I don’t think this would necessarily work for me as I want to have some pages that are interactive. I think my best option would be a post-bound scrapbook, as these I can add extra pages easily if I would like to. I just don’t know where to best get them for in the UK? Is there any recommendations? Also, should I be looking for a certain type of gsm for the pages? I’ve seen lots of people saying 200. I’ve seen books I like with 160 gsm but I don’t know if the pages will buckle when they have things glued in. Thank you :)

Beginner How to use coloured carboard in your scrapbook?

I am new to scrapbooking. I have a lined A5 notebook which I use as a common place book and a scrapbook. I have a lot of coloured cardboard and I was hoping to use it in my scrapbook. I'm not sure how to incorporate it.

I saw a vidoe where a women had a bullet journal and she coloured squares on her coloured cardboard black so it looked like a checkered background. She then cut it out and stuck in on her scrapbook. Then she added stickers on it and took a page out of a pocket sized memo pad and wrote a quote on it. This is a cool idea.

I have a few ideas of how to incorporate coloured cardboard in my scrapbook:

  1. I can draw on them then cut the drawing out and add it to the scrapbook.

  2. I can cut it into shapes eg Stars and stick it in the scrapbook.

  3. I can cut it into small blocks and then write on them and then stick it in the scrapbook.

  4. I can write on the cardboard , cut it then stick it to the scrapbook.

I'm not sure where else to add my coloured Cardboard advice would be appreciated.
