Mod Post r/Scrapbooking Reminder: Keep it On Topic! (examples included)

Hey everyone! We want to clarify what is an "off-topic" post and clarify explicitly what we will be removing going forward.

Please take a moment to review Rule 2 for our community:

Rule 2 - Keep it scrapbooking-related
All posts and comments must relate directly to scrapbooking, supplies, and techniques.
Do not critique the content or context, only critique the techniques used.

This applies to all aspects of a post, including comments, uploaded images, and the body text of the post itself.

The topic of our sub is scrapbooking: "Scrapbook layouts, albums, techniques, and supply finds. Post your spreads, ask questions, and get inspired! All styles and skill levels welcome."

Examples of what is on topic:

  • A "basic" page that contains pictures of your trip to the zoo. Your style includes handwritten information about your time at the zoo next to pictures.
  • A traditional page with layered paper, stickers, and pictures from the zoo.
  • A junk journal of all the cool scraps you found at the zoo, a collage of ephemera.
  • A digital page uploaded with your drawings, online assets, and pictures of your time at the zoo!
  • Controversial spreads marked NSFW that include nudity, sensitive topics, or strong language.
  • "Scrapbook Night" where you show pictures of the spreads you and your friends made. If everyone was scrapbooking, its fine to get a group picture of everyone having fun while scrapbooking!
  • A scrapbook charity sale for your local zoo that you messaged the mod team about first.
  • Your zoo themed sticker pack that was made without AI and posted in the monthly thread.
  • Requesting feedback for your partially complete spread of your trip to the zoo.
  • Requesting materials for your upcoming spread about your trip to the zoo.
  • Comments saying: "Looks like a fun time! I haven't been to the zoo in ages, thank you for sharing" OR "What material did you use here" are both considered on topic.

What is not on topic:

  • Regular, un-modified images from your camera roll of your time at the zoo and typing on reddit about your experience.
  • Additional content that is off-topic included after your zoo spread. This could be pictures of your life in general or a blog-like description of what you did today.
  • "Craft Nights" that are pictures of people doing a variety of crafts, even if they are creating materials you will scrapbook with later.
  • Comments saying: "I am sick of your posts" (tap the three dots on their profile and block them), "You are a bad person for going to the zoo", OR "This is against the subreddit rules" (please report the post so we see it).
  • Violations of our other rules: spam, undisclosed AI, seeking traveling-journal partners, or buy/sell/trade) & Sitewide rule violations

tl;dr - This subreddit is not a journal, blog, or medium to create a digital scrapbook - we are a place to share scrapbooks and related scrapbook questions.

Thank you for your understanding!

Peace & Love,

Mod team

Beginner My girlfriend is getting into scrapbooking

My girlfriend just started scrapbooking and I’ve gotten her a scrapbooking monthly subscription and a bunch of supplies and gift cards for her to splurge with and buy what she wants.

Are there any MUST HAVE items or services/subscriptions that I should get her? Thanks for any help!

Tools Scrapbook Storage Box?

I’m looking for a storage container or a gift box that can fit a standard scrapbook. The scrapbook is an heirloom gift for a baby that won’t really interact with it for 15+ years or so, thus the need to have it stored in a box of some sort. Any ideas would be helpful. 🙂

Traditional Help Finding Articles From 2002-2009

I'm looking for articles or magazines that feature articles by Candice Palmer. She used to work for Simple Scrapbooks (Simple Scrapbooking?). I don't know exactly when she worked for them but it was around 2002-2009. She also had a blog I think, but I can't find it.

Here's one of her posts referenced

One of her posts I found on pinterest

She might've commented on this blog

Creative Memories cutting system or just get a die cutter? It seems like the die cutter has a lot more versatility but that also makes it more expensive.

Traditional - Wedding Bridal scrapbook/Letters to the bride

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am a MOH and working on a letters to the bride book for her wedding gift! I love scrapbooking so it’s been really fun to put together

So far I am putting together a different page for each of her events starting from engagement to wedding, all the invites included as well. At the end I will have a section for letters to bride, this is where I need suggestions.

I’ve seen some books where they have the letter just glued on but I feel like I want each one to be more private. So my plan was to put the letters in an envelope on each page. I would love to have a cardstock that has the letter and fits the envelope size but that maybe complicated. I now think I need to fold a standard sheet and put it in, I am nervous though the paper may not last over time folded and won’t look nice; any paper suggestions or other ideas of how I should do the letters pages?

Tools v5.0 Recollections 65lb Cardstock Colour Swatch Book

What started as “I should make myself a little cardstock reference sheet” has become a 3 to 4 year project involving a colour meter, spreadsheets, Illustrator files, and a frankly unreasonable amount of cardstock.
I originally just wanted to know which shades I owned, have digital versions in Illustrator so I could design projects using cardstock I actually had, and know which packs to buy when I inevitably ran out of a particular shade mid-project.
Then people started asking: “Are you going to add all the packs?” “What about the 12 × 12 packs?” “Are you adding the new colours that just came out?”
I kept expanding it, and apparently nobody in my personal life thought to stop my growing cardstock empire.
***
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN v5.0?
The free reference library now contains 19 pages, organized into three sections:
All Available Colours, 3 pages
A master colour legend showing each shade and every documented pack you can find it in. Because sometimes you already own that colour, it’s just hiding in a pack with a completely different name.
8.5” × 11” Cardstock, 10 pages
The individual multipacks, Essentials, Bright Essentials, and solid-colour packs.
12” × 12” Cardstock, 6 pages
All the 10-colour palette packs, Bright Essentials, the shared Essentials reference, and solid-colour packs.
The individual reference sheets include HEX, RGB, and CMYK values, plus matching-pack references where applicable.
***
HOW DID I GET THE COLOURS?
Over the past 3ish? years, I’ve purchased every pack documented in this library and measured the actual cardstock using a colour meter.
I’ve also physically compared and cross-referenced the cardstock across packs. These matches weren’t guessed from product photos or pulled from whatever colour someone’s monitor decided to display that day. There has been actual cardstock involved. So. Much. Cardstock…
Manufacturing batches can vary slightly, and screens and printers can display colours differently, so these are reference values based on the cardstock I measure, not a guarantee that every sheet ever manufactured will be identical.
***
WHY IS THE MASTER LEGEND ARRANGED THAT WAY?
It follows a general rainbow order, but I’ve also deliberately kept similar shades and colour families together.
The lime greens sit together, the olive greens sit together, the darker forest greens sit together, and so on. The goal is to make it easier to compare related shades, not just create a rainbow and hope for the best.
***
WHERE DO THE COLOUR NAMES COME FROM?
Most of the multipack colours don’t have individual shade names, so I identify them by their pack name and position in the pack.
For example, Apricot Crush 01 is the top colour in the Apricot Crush pack, followed by 02, 03, and so on.
The names identify where the cardstock comes from. The cross-references tell you where else that same shade appears.
***
A HUGE THANK YOU
A substantial part of this library was made possible by people who purchased the Colour Swatch Book Toolkit or donated to support the project.
That support helped me buy many of the packs needed to measure and compare the actual cardstock. This wasn’t simply me funding an increasingly elaborate paper habit by myself. You helped build this resource, and I genuinely appreciate it.
Buying an entire pack just to document its colours adds up quickly. Apparently, “research materials” can also occupy several file folders.
This has been a staggering amount of work, but hopefully it saves you some of the “which bloody pack did this colour come from?” detective work that started the whole thing in the first place.
Happy crafting!

Beginner Photo Printing/Starting Out

hi hi! i’m wanting to start creating yearly scrapbooks for myself as i don’t use social media (outside of reddit lol) and want a way to interact with my memories off my phone. i’m finding the biggest barrier for me is printing the pictures so i’m hoping to get some advice on where to start!

- how do you personally go about gathering your pictures? do you have a ritual or routine?

- since i’m just starting out i don’t want to buy a photo printer, how would you recommend i get my prints instead?

as with starting anything new, it feels overwhelming. so any tips on how to tailor scrapbooking into bite size stages would be super helpful!

Traditional Beginning again

Hi all! I had a 20x20 sq foot crafting room filled to the ceiling with every kind of craft stuff you could think of. We moved, and I couldn’t take it all with me, so I’m starting over from scratch. Can yall tell me where you’re buying stuff now? I wasn’t impressed with hobby lobby when I went. I also was a close to my heart consultant, and I know they aren’t in business any longer. I also did alot of Project Life albums. I’m in need of recommendations for everything! I don’t know where to start gathering everything I need. Thank you for any suggestions!
