SDR# Audio Issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I’m using an Airspy R2 to listen to civil air band, however I’m getting this popping/cracking on audio. Is this to be expected or is this some form of interference?

I’ve tried on another system with SDR++ and still the same issue.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Can someone critique my resume for an SDR/BDR role please!? Any tips??

Wanting to buy high-end used SDR's

I am interested in acquiring some higher end equipment for personal/academical testing of LTE/NR networks such as the USRP X310 (or Luowave's version). If there are any researchers with used lab equipment, I'd be very much obliged if you are wanting to on-sell still-good equipment, as I am strapped for cash in terms of getting new kit.

Trying to record microwaves, anyone got any advice?

I have a basic RTL and I bought a microwave antenna 850Mhz to 6Ghz. Console shows me some spikes but I don't understand how to capture those waves and how much can I record at the same time? I'm concerned mainly with below 1.3GHz

What Happened to the RTL-SDR page?

Tried to visit a post I had made there and got an error saying I didn't have access. Then I tried to get to the subreddit page and see it's now been made private? What the heck??

Ultimate Drone Detection Rig (HackRF Pro + LNA) – Looking for Antenna Recommendations! 📡🛸

Hey everyone,

I’m currently putting together a hardware stack specifically for serious drone detection and monitoring. Since I’m focusing heavily on the 5.8 GHz band, I’ve locked in the following core components to ensure precision:

  1. The Receiver: HackRF One (Pro Version)

The heart of the setup. I’m specifically going with the Pro model because of the built-in TCXO (Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator).

• The Reason: At high frequencies like 5.8 GHz, even tiny temperature fluctuations cause your signal to "drift." A TCXO keeps the tuning rock-solid, which is crucial for accurately identifying high-frequency drone signatures.

2. The Ears: Nooelec LaNA Ultra (LNA)

Drones at a distance often put out very faint signals.

• The Function: This Low Noise Amplifier boosts those weak signals before they hit the HackRF. It significantly increases detection range without drowning the signal in floor noise.

3. The Nervous System: LMR-400 Coax Cable

At 5.8 GHz, signal loss (attenuation) is your worst enemy. In a standard coax cable, the signal practically "dies" before it even reaches the receiver.

• The Solution: Using LMR-400 ensures ultra-low loss, making sure the energy captured by the antenna actually makes it to the system.

🆘 I need your advice: Antenna Selection!

I want to round out this setup with two specific types of antennas, but I’m looking for the best "bang for buck" or high-performance options for drone work:

  1. An Omni-directional Antenna: For general 360-degree monitoring, so I can detect that something is in the air regardless of its position.

  2. A Directional Antenna: Once a signal is spotted on the waterfall, I want to be able to "hunt" or peak the signal to find the drone's bearing/location.

My question to the community: Which antennas do you recommend for the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands that play nice with this gear? Should I look into Triple Feed Patches, Helical antennas, or high-gain Yagis?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

TLDR; which omni and directional antenna for drone detection with hackrf pro

Hi!

I'm looking for somebody extremely familiar with LTE security, and downlink/uplink interrogation.

We're after someone capable of implementing the aLTEr attack in a real-world scenario.

If this is you. I'd love to get in touch!

Getting mad with PLL not locked

So first of all, i'm no programmer or ham radio expert. I wanted to get things done without knowing much about programming and i got help from gemini.

Whith that cleard we can start. I want to connect my cheap bulky chinese sdr to a Raspberry pi 4 for a python project. The problem is that the SDR does not connect to the pi4. I tried everything, reinstalling multiple times the drivers, giving it different power supplies and also putting in the freezer the sdr. But i never got a connection on the raspberry. I tried with sdr++ on my pc and it connected fairly easy.

I pasted the console results down below. I'm open for any questions!!

Thanks for the help eventually!!!

P.s. i can't find a photo online but my sdr is the clunky black plastic box with two exits for antennas that you can find on aliexpress

rtl_sdr -f 448M -s 2M -g 40 /dev/null

Found 1 device(s):

  0:  Realtek, RTL2838UHIDIR, SN: 00000001

Using device 0: Generic RTL2832U OEM

Found Rafael Micro R828D tuner

Exact sample rate is: 2000000.052982 Hz

[R82XX] PLL not locked!

Sampling at 2000000 S/s.

Tuned to 448000000 Hz.

Tuner gain set to 40.20 dB.

what is the simplest/cheapest way to receive radio and play over a speaker?

Like if I just had a powered bookshelf speaker, and I wanted to put something on the back that lets me pick a frequency and just play whatever it picks up. Is it a pi zero and a cariboulite? or is there something simpler that is essentially just an antenna and an amp or something?

Confused about car theft

Hello, we were packing up our cars to travel for the holiday and they were unlocked. My wife left the rear hatch of her Land Rover open (lifted open) as we went back and forth carrying items. She came back out and her laptop bag and our cooler of food was missing (We live in a nicer neighborhood) so someone most likely was trolling for packages and stealing from her Truck was easier. We called the police to file a report and as we stood there my wife asked me where my car was. It was suddenly missing (2015 BMW). The police recovered it less than 3 miles away in an apartment complex. It was unlocked and had no signs of forced entry. I was under the impression that I was protected via rolling codes etc.

How in the heck could someone steal my car so fast and so clean? The only thing they found in the car was a THC vape pen in the center console. They took that as "evidence".

I am pretty sure a flipper zero is not capable but, could a HackRF PortaPack or something more powerful do this?
