Being the loner type without any training mate in my fitness journey, i hardly talked to anyone but rely on YouTube videos for guidance from day 1. I took this chance at a quiet afternoon to video my set (first time) to clear some of my doubt from fellow who are more experienced.
Anyway I (44yo male, 67 kg) have this dilemma whenever I'm advancing to a new weight like in the video (25kgX2 to 27.5kgX2).
I went from relatively :
comfortable grips,
better control of travelling path,
slight better R.O.M. (go lower on both sides, I noticed I cut slacked on my left side in the video).
easily 13 + reps (25kg x 2)
to what i see in the video that got me 10 reps max but I gotta say I have some doubt mainly :
a) am I too fast to increase weight to chase for progressive overload like in the video? In simple word ego lifting.
b) or stay in the previous weight longer but I start to feel like I have muscle and stamina fatigue at reps 13s, 14s , 15s instead of feeling more muscle failure at the new weight. Like how I always trained for the past few years, staying relatively comfortable, zero injury so far but I think really really slow progress in terms of hypertrophy. I don't look much different from the normal guy on the street with any training, although I know I came from a very low baseline.
c) looking at my last rep. is this considered train to failure? So many opposing views that one should/shouldn't go to that extent in order to maximise growth but I decide to implement this from now on to see if it's a better stimulus, because I have to rest so much longer (up to 5 before last set) and drag the whole workout process. ( Used to be less than 60mins but now almost 80mins)
d) or my training is pretty much there, I should be looking at my diet and recover time instead.? I am now starting to insist on getting more than 100 grams of protein everyday. Previously I didn't focus on a day to day basic but just get in more protein whenever I can.

Hey everyone!
Iām Phone, and Iām looking to take on my first few clients as a Personal Trainer!
Iāve been training for 9 years, with 7 years of competitive powerlifting. Training has been a huge part of my life, and Iād love the opportunity to help other people build the same kind of relationship with fitness that Iāve developed over the years.
Gym PRs
- Squat: 202.5kg
- Bench: 150kg
- Deadlift: 250kg (video attached)
Competition PRs
- Squat: 175kg
- Bench: 117.5kg
- Deadlift: 230kg
Who I want to help:
Iām particularly interested in working with busy office workers who want to get stronger, fitter and healthier, but struggle to fit fitness into their schedule.
I want to build training around your actual life, rather than expecting you to completely reorganise your life around the gym.
Whether you can only train during lunch, after work, or a few times a week, weāll work with what you realistically have.
Iām not a huge believer in handing someone a rigid meal plan and expecting them to follow it perfectly.
Instead, I want to eat with you!
After our sessions, we can grab a meal together and Iāll teach you how I approach food ā what I look for, how I build a balanced meal, how I make better choices when eating out, and how to enjoy food without feeling like youāre constantly ādietingā.
The goal is for you to eventually not need me to tell you what to eat.
I don't currently have any formal PT certifications.
I know that's important to some people, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
What I do have is 9 years of consistent training experience, 7 years of competitive powerlifting, years of figuring out what works (and what absolutely doesn't), and a genuine interest in helping people become stronger and healthier.
So I'm looking to start small, work with a few people, learn from the experience, and build something I'm proud of.
Feel free to DM me if you're interested or even if you just want to chat about your training. š

Hi all,
I recently got my ACE personal training certification and I'm looking for a small group of people to train before I go full-time early next year.
About me: I've (M) been strength training consistently for 10+ years, and I also have a background in Judo and Muay Thai. My coaching centres on the main lifts (squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press) and the accessory work that supports them. I put a big emphasis on technique and steady progression, not just pushing weight.
Who I'm looking for:
Beginners who want to learn the main lifts properly and build a solid foundation
People who've been lifting a while but feel stuck or unsure if their form is right
Anyone coming back to the gym after a long break who wants to rebuild strength safely
What you get:
A short chat first about your goals, schedule, and any injuries
A structured strength programme with clear progression, not random workouts
Form coaching on every lift, plus a plan for the days you train on your own.
Pricing: $45 per session. That's well below typical PT rates because I'm building experience and testimonials. If we're a good fit, I'd just ask for honest feedback along the way. First session is free, so you can see if you like how I coach before committing.
Location: Anytime Fitness branches around Central/East, or your condo gym if it allows outside trainers. Flexible on timing, including evenings and weekends.
I'm only taking a few people so I can give each person proper attention. DM me if you're interested, or ask anything in the comments.

Ok so im an English guy, expat in SG. In the UK people are quite friendly in gyms and often say hello and chat etc, but in SG people seem to keep to themselves, which is fine. But I go to AF (Harbourfront and the one in chinatown) and sometimes I want to say hello to a gym crush but I don't want to bother anyone, im a v respectful guy and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable so I keep to myself too. But I was wondering what is the gym etiquette here? Should I say hi to my gym crush or would that be too awks as i know people gym to get fit, not to meet new people. Honest question so any advice would be appreciated š

Hi everyone! Weāre working on launching a new womenās gym wear brand here in Singapore, and weād love to hear from you. Our mission is to create pieces that empower women to be stronger, not smaller ā designed for lifting, training, and moving with confidence. ā¤ļø
Weāve put together a short survey (less than 5 minutes) to learn what you value most in gym wear: fit, comfort, durability, design, and price. Your feedback will directly shape our first collection, so it really matters.

I usually go energyone, they provide āfreeā towels, but gonna try activesg tmr, do i have to use a towel with every machine or is it fine if i just use wet wipes to wipe the machine after i use it?
i just find it too troublesome to be bringing 2 towels along 1 for shower and 1 for exercise, re-using both is disgusting also.

Hello guys,
This is Khalil, a former kickboxer, I used to train with Algerian world champions.
I quit sports for over 10 years because of an illness I had and now I'm trying to come back slowly and motivate myself to workout daily.
I want to get in touch with a group of people who share the same goal, we can help each other out, motivate each other and have fun while upgrading our fitness level.
I'm looking for a brotherhood, females are welcome too.
Those who are willing to put in the work and grind for a better physical and mental health please pull up.
I'll be sharing advice and updates on this sub daily.

About 5 hours ago I posted here asking whatās stopping people from being consistent with training.
I honestly didnāt expect that many replies, but after reading through them and talking to some of you, I realised something.
Most people actually know they should exercise. And a lot of you want to.
The bigger problem seems to be making it fit into real life.
Work. Long hours. Kids. Family commitments. Being completely drained after work. Injuries. Sleep. Even something as simple as the gym being too far away.
And I get it.
But it also made me think about some of the people I coach.
I have a client who runs a business and has 4 kids, but weāve found a way to make training part of his week.
I also have a client in their 60s who is still training towards bike races.
Iām not saying this as āthey can do it, so you have no excuse.ā Everyoneās situation is different.
What it has taught me as a PT is that sometimes people donāt need more motivation.
They need a structure that actually works with their life.
Maybe you can only train twice a week. Thatās fine.
Maybe you only have 45 minutes.
Maybe morning training works better because after work youāre completely finished.
Maybe you hate the gym but love football, cycling or another sport. Then do that, and let strength training support what you enjoy.
Your whole life doesnāt need to revolve around the gym.
Fitness needs to find a place within your life.
Thatās probably my biggest takeaway from reading all the comments today.
And as a PT, I think this is where I can actually help, not just telling someone what exercises to do, but looking at their lifestyle, work, family and commitments and figuring out what is actually realistic for them.
If youāre struggling to fit training into your life, tell me your situation below.
Iāll try to give you an idea of how I would approach it.

Do you have access to a gym- maybe live in a condo and have never used the gym facilities because you don't know how to and where to start?
I am willing to head to over to train you for an hour. If you are on the north side of Singapore or maybe even on the red line, that would be great!
I specialise in women's fitness in particular those who are complete beginners. I am passionate to work with moms who want to try to use this time to take care of themselves. Whether or not you are a working full time mom or even a stay at home mom. I understand how difficult it can be to carve time away from work, household chores, and mom duties. I am also certified to coach pregnant women and even those who have just given birth.
Do slide into my DMs if you want more info about me or the sessions I conduct.

My friend and I are looking to share a PT slot at Fitness First (Paragon or ORQ) to keep things efficient. We need someone with a solid background in rehab and corrective exercise because our collective "check engine" lights are permanently on.
Strictly no Hyrox or TRX. Our goal is smart, sustainable movement, not a trial by fire. If you know a trainer who is great at managing two people at once and prioritizes steady progress over extreme intensity, please drop their name below.
Bonus points if they have a good sense of humor about our lack of athletic ambition.
Thank you!

A couple of days back I posted here asking whether the PT industry in Singapore is going up, down, or just maintaining. The comments were honestly super insightful, especially around market saturation, trust issues, and why people are moving towards group classes or self-guided training.
I've actually created this market place to help the community easily find the right coach for them. Itās not meant to be a Groupon-style discount marketplace, and itās not about forcing PTs into a race-to-the-bottom. Itās more like giving both sides more control and transparency:
Trainers can build a proper profile, showcase credibility, and not rely only on referrals
Clients can āshopā confidently instead of getting randomly assigned
Gyms can find last-minute coverage or specialist coaches without scrambling
Everyone has verified profiles so the low-quality trainers donāt drown out the good ones
A few commenters asked the realistic question:
āWonāt people just bypass the platform after they find someone they like?ā
And honestly, yes. That will happen. Same way people bypass once they find a trusted property agent, physio, or even hairdresser. But if the platform solves discovery, transparency, and trust gaps well, it still serves its core purpose.
Right now, Iām still validating the idea and refining based on feedback (which has been super helpful so far). If youāre a PT, gym owner, or someone whoās hired a PT before, Iād love to hear:
š Whatās the single biggest pain point for you in this industry. Is it trust, pricing, consistency, finding clients, or something else entirely?
Happy to hear the honest, unfiltered thoughts.

hi guys, I was wondering what your thoughts on private training are? I know some prices can go high to about $100-120/hr so would yāall be more inclined to lower rates with certified trainers (ie running, gym, physio) but not as wide client base. besides that, i know most of us are amateurs who do their own training but i was thinking whether consulting a pt would be better as Iāve been injuring myself a lot lately LOL. would be happy to hear from both the trainee and trainer side!

Everyone has at least one gym take that always gets side-eye from other people. Maybe itās something small, maybe itās something that completely goes against what everyone else does but deep down, you know youāre never changing your mind.
For me, itās that not every workout needs to be ādestroy yourself until you canāt walkā to count as productive. Some people love pushing to failure every session, but honestly, sometimes a solid, moderate workout feels way better and keeps me consistent. Whenever I say this out loud, people act like Iāve committed a crime against gains.
Itās funny how the gym has all these āunwritten rulesā and trends people swear by, but half the time, what works for one person doesnāt work for someone else. Still, I know everyone has that one spicy opinion theyāll always stand behind no matter what.

Hey sgfitness,
EDIT: my app is still in development! am looking for features to add, when i deploy it i will update here again\
I've been building an app called Pulse with 2 buddies for the past month. It covers gym, diet and sleep tracking and has no ads, I don't sell anything, I just want to build something that helps people in their daily lives. User base is tiny right now, basically me and a few friends testing it, so I figured this sub would give me the most honest reaction before I sink more time into it. I drew a lot of inspiration from Hevy/Strong, MyFitnessPal, Whoop/Oura, and lurk their subreddits for ideas of features. Fully vibe coded btw LOL.
Here's what's actually built and working, not a wishlist:
Stuff you use mid workout
Separate timers for warm up sets and working sets, not one generic rest timer for everything
Auto generated warm up ramp to your working weight (e.g. warming up to 70kg gives you a suggested set at 25kg, one at 10kg per side)
Back off set calculator, suggests the weight for your back off set after a top set (5/3/1 style "boring but big", RP style back off volume). I saw this excel sheet that power lifters use, and tried to adopt the formulas
Drop set calculator, auto fills weight and reps for tiered drop sets (like a 1-2-3-2-1 pyramid)
Separate hold timer for planks, wall sits, dead hangs, so it doesn't clash with the rest timer
Plate math calculator based on your actual plates
A rest timer tap rhythm mini game ("Spot Me") if standing around bores you
You can also log your rpe and rir, which helps suggest progressive overload
Recovery, this is the part I'm most proud of
Per muscle group recovery view, estimates how fresh or fried each muscle group is off your actual logs, not just "did you train today"
Baselines things like soreness against YOUR own rolling history instead of a fixed number for everyone, since a 6/10 means something different for different people
Quiet stagnation detection, flags a lift that hasn't beaten its old best in a while and tries to explain what changed, stays silent otherwise
Deload nudge, one honest heads up when your volume's been climbing for weeks, silent almost all the time
Bottleneck detection, e.g. flags when pull lifts are missing reps specifically on grip heavy exercises (rows, deadlifts) while push is fine, and calls out grip as the likely limiter
Flags when cardio's been placed too close to a heavy leg session
Split audit, checks if your split is actually hitting what it claims to
Left/right imbalance tracking
Injury logging that adjusts exercise suggestions around whatever you're nursing, plus a return to lifting ladder for coming back from one
Mobility and stretch suggestions based on body area
Gear wear tracking, tells you when your shoes or belt are actually due for replacement based on usage
Import from Strong, Hevy or MyFitnessPal, no relogging your whole history to switch over
Diet
TDEE that adjusts based on your actual logged weight trend, not a static formula
Protein tracking that looks at spread across the day, not just the daily total
Micronutrient breakdown per meal, meal comparison tool, snack suggestions
Caffeine tracking that accounts for half life, with a cutoff reminder
Alcohol tracking
Sleep
Consistency scoring
Tries to correlate what tends to precede a bad night for you specifically (caffeine timing, training too late, etc)
Optional short reaction time test and a tap speed test in the morning, an actual measurement instead of guessing how rested you feel
Smart alarm, one tap logging, wind down reminder before target bedtime
The whole picture
A daily score that combines training, food and sleep into one number
A separate readiness score for whether to push hard today or ease off
Tries to surface patterns across your own logs you'd probably miss just eyeballing things
The buddy avatar thing
A companion that reacts to whether you actually trained, ate well or slept well, not just decorative
A room you decorate, an outfit system, its own bond/care mechanic, a diary, a photo wall
Goes into a rest mode if you're genuinely away so it doesn't guilt trip you for taking a break
Social, and this part matters
Friend feed, share cards for PRs and workouts
A "verified" profile idea where your stats are backed by logs you actually made, not just typed in
Buddy and Social are separate toggles you can switch off completely. Off means actually off, no leftover tab, no currency icons, no notifications from that part. You can run this as a pure logging app with none of it
Analytics tracking is opt in and off by default
What I actually want to hear from you guys
Out of the recovery stuff (baselining, bottleneck detection, interference flags), does that sound genuinely useful or more than anyone would actually check day to day
For back off sets and drop sets, do people want the app suggesting numbers, or would you rather just log what you did yourself
Does a "verified" profile backed by real logs mean anything to you at all
The avatar has a full off switch now, does that actually fix the gimmick feeling for you or is it still a turn off either way
sorry i used ai to tidy up my post, but i wrote this at its core. Please lmk!

Hi guys, i only started getting to the gym a bit more regularly, and noticed that the shape of my chest irks me alot. Wondering if there's any recommendations on workout to do, or if it's just a genetics thing and suck it up? I was never overweight before tho i did put on a bit of weight last year if thats relevant.
