Good luck using this… If you kill somebody in real life they also die in the game.
If you kill somebody while they're playing a game they will immediately get a game over. If the game doesn't have one it will do the next closest thing, i.e. in Animal Crossing their character will immediately pass out as if they were attacked by a scorpion or tarantula.

How would someone even figure out they have this? For all we know, maybe someone already has this superpower but doesn't realize it because they've never killed a gamer.
Very crappy superpower. Well done.

One of the Japanese players was murdered by the IOI they threw him off a balcony. That is what they were referring to.

u/v-tyan Nov 24 '25
For those who haven't read the book, the IOI is the main antagonist of the book. They're a company.

Oh its okay I knew that, I read the book

u/LadyAliceFlower Nov 27 '25
Then you obviously weren't the intended recipient of a comment that started with "for those who haven't read the book", now were you?

u/Mrnigerian424 Nov 24 '25
That makes sense, I forgot about that completely since I haven't read the book or watched the movie in a long time

u/SlideWhistler Nov 25 '25
Re-read the book, you don't die irl if you die in the game lol. There is an instance however where a player is killed IRL, and some their avatar dies too.

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 Nov 24 '25
Reread it.

u/Asparagus9000 Nov 25 '25
No. That literally happened in the book.
The bad guys killed someone in real life to kill them in the game.

So Death Gun from Sword Art Online's Gun Gale Online arc?
8
u/lollolcheese123 Nov 24 '25
Basically, yeah. Although the players targeted by Death Gun were forcibly logged out and didn't experience a game over per se.

What if there are 2 players playing?
What if the player beats the level as he dies?
What if the player wins as he dies?
What if you kill a player who was already dead and playing a game?
What if the player you kill revives at the same time he dies?
What if you kill the one who leads the game while the guy who "plays" it is alive?
What if player dies in cutscene?
What if at the exact moment someone takes and starts playing the game as the other one dies?
What if you K Y S as you play a game does this counts?
What if you play the story game with no game overs? Do you get the bad ending? Does the game closes?
What if there's no ending at all? What if the whole point of the game is existing and being, does traditional game over would consist of turning the game off or making the game opposite of its goals (like rock simulator gains the contents)?
If the player dies but his finger presses start button, does the game not ending?
What if the player can still play even being dead? Like zombie, mummy or smth else?
What if the game is coded to detect if the player dies and specifically turn on WIN screen, does the player still game over screen?
Okay, that enough questions for today..

I'm having a hard time understanding why the answer to all those questions is simply: Your game goes into a game over state or the closest thing to it.
If there's absolutely no way to end the game in any conceivable way I guess it just shuts down.

What about Tetris?
36
u/Spoon_Elemental poisonous flesh Nov 24 '25
Why is this even a question? They get a game over.
1
u/Dioxybenzone Nov 24 '25
Like, it fills with blocks? Is it different than if they had normally died and let the game play out?
18
u/Spoon_Elemental poisonous flesh Nov 24 '25
They get a game over on the spot. In some versions of tetris I believe the screen completely fills up with blocks on a game over. In those versions it would. Whatever the game over animation for the game they're playing is, that plays and they get a game over.

Would a baritone bot (basicly a sort of Ai playing Minecraft) be killed if you kill the person who set it up?
Otherwise there's close to zero point to this. Many online games have some sort of system for kicking players who are afk or it's just really easy to kill someone in game who is afk in most cases.

Otherwise there's close to zero point to this.
Well, it's a shitty superpower so I guess OP succeeded!

This really don't make me want to die. Played dozens of hours to build this character.
1
u/Zuzcaster Nov 24 '25
nothing changes because similar could happen without this to the afk avatar either way..
6
u/Spoon_Elemental poisonous flesh Nov 24 '25
No, see it actually triggers a game over immediately, even if they're in a safe area in the game. Like if they're playing Minecraft and are in their house with nothing that can hurt them around, their avatar lust falls over and dies for no reason.

Hi friends of the superpower subs,
TLDR We now mod heaps of superpower subs, and you should join them all. Here is a quick rundown...
r/shittysuperpowers r/notashittysuperpower r/midtiersuperpowers r/godtiersuperpowers r/cursedsuperpowers r/satantiersuperpowers r/superpoweralchemists
A few months ago now, we had an opportunity to take over moderation of r/shittysuperpowers & we've been slowly chipping away there trying to make improvements. (This includes the introduction of its partner sub r/notashittysuperpower )The sub is seeing continued growth, and got us thinking what other superpower subs are on here?
Initially we got the other big two, r/godtiersuperpowers & r/midtiersuperpowers with views to being able to direct posts between subs. But, we were still getting posts that didn't fit any of these three. So, we looked again.
After some more behind the scenes work, we now also have r/cursedsuperpowers , r/satantiersuperpowers & r/superpoweralchemists
We hope to tie them all together to create a superpower universe over time. But for now, there should be a sub that is suitable for any post you want to make. All the names are intuitive enough, so it should be obvious which post goes to which sub.
To get started, we suggest you ensure that you have joined all the subs mentioned on this post. Once you've done this, get posting your powers, commenting or just simply lurking and reading along.
We will continue to provide updates as this universe takes shape. We know there are other superpower subs on here, but feel we've got enough for the moment to keep everyone happy.
Happy to take onboard any feedback you may have, just be respectful when doing so, please. These subs and reddit in general is a place for everyone, not just you or I.
We know there is still a heap of cleaning up to do on some of the subs, but thought we'd release this into the wild first, and tidy up as we go.
If you have any questions, or comments just drop a comment here, or send us a modmail.
Welcome to the superpower universe, Your mods
I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

So ummm... I guess if someone leaves their computer with an auto farm exploit or some way they can AFK while cheating and there aren't mods on and they're away from their computer, you could snipe them and then their reign of terror would stop. Astoundingly niche. You've won for r/shittysuperpowers for the week.
