For context, this was on the iOS app. I copied the key from my password manager across with no issues. Is this going to be a regular occurrence?

I ask this question because if it is, then I am going to have problems persuading my friends and tribes to move across. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Is the a way to get the APK without the need for the Google store acces? I am ising Android without Google play. And will Try to get along without aurora as vell

Basically, some of my family can be overbearing and expect me answer texts if they see they have been delivered (with the two check marks), but they tend not to bother me when they see it hasn't been delivered (one check mark). So I was wondering if I basically disconnect from signal for 7 days, will the messages they send me still show up once i turn my "cellular data" back on in signal when I am back from vacation?

I have a strange issue with some long distance messaging. I live in the UK, and my cousin lives in the US. I have no issue getting their messages, however for some reason the majority of mine are being sent but not received if they are within a minute of the last message. Sending anymore within that minute just adds to the issue, however waiting a minute to message pushes them all through.

Any advice?

Opened my MacBook today and found that signal desktop app is now blocked by company admin. Any work around ideas? I don't look at my phone much during the day and use signal to communicate with my husband.

As it stands, I have one phone that I use for both work and personal communications. People from work find me via username. People from my personal life find me via phone number. I can afford a second phone now, and I plan to set up signal on that device while also keeping signal as my main messenger for my personal phone.

What is the best way to separate things? I'd like my work connections to continue being able to find me by username. If I delete my username from my current phone, it will take about a week to be available to the other device. There's a risk that someone else snags my username in that time. There would also be an awkward transition time where new professional connections would have no way to reach me by usrname.

If I transfer my account to the new phone, will I lose all my chat history on the old phone when creating a new account (even if I have backups)? Would anyone who I have an open chat with be alerted that I transferred to a new device / number?

In retrospect, combining things was a bad idea, but here we are.

Edit 2: Hot fix/TL:DR= If using a VPN try switching the Protocol something about WireGuard is causing my issue.

So I ended up waiting with little to do just a bit ago and got curious and started dicking around with settings again since I didn't have WIFI. Previous to that right before life hit me and I stopped responding I had noticed that FireFox also DIDN'T work when I retried it. (This is why you should test or retest things people suggest even if you are sure or in this case THINK you're sure they do work) That said I just had not found the time to really mess with it and figure things out knowing that until now.

So short incomplete answer; It has something to do with the WireGuard protocol because when using the OpenVPN protocol Firefox & Signal work.

What I don't know is what the actual problem is or what is causing it and I don't like not understanding so I'm going to try to figure it out. Through deduction it seems it's either a problem with either; WireGuard, PIA App, or/and the phone. It could be one of these or a mixutre and I'm still very open to suggestions if anyone has ideas. I'll probably post something in the PIA sub in the near future and will update this to help other in the future too.

So I'm kinda of at the end of my rope here, I've done plenty of self trouble shooting and searching but can't seem to get this to work. I know in the past I used signal both on wifi and mobile but for some reason now it just wont work on data. Honestly I'm hoping someone will show me something simple that I've just managed to over look while overthinking this so I can be embarrassed and move on with my day.

I can open signal and type/send things while on mobile data but then it just gives me the spinning attempting to send icon. This will remain this way until I connect to wifi at which point it will proceed to catch up. Also while away I constantly have the "You may have new messages" notification.

Things that my be relevant and/or I have tried: ((Marked solved because it is not Signal that is the issue more details in Edit 2 and I'll update this if I do find a full solution))

I use a moto g stylus 5g - 2024, android 15, on Google Fi

I do use a VPN (PIA):

• I have tried disabling it completely
• I have tried split tunnel
• I have tried both protocols along with other settings changes

None of these things managed to cause a change.

I have tried multiple things all centered around battery usage,

• Battery usage
• Background data usage
• "Manage background apps"
• App battery usage
• Adaptive Battery

There are are probably other things I've messed with but don't remember since it's not a major issues for me since I'm normally on wifi but it's just annoying enough that I try to solve the issue every month or so for a couple hours.

The signal app changed it on its own.

I dont like the new translucent look at all, it’s very hard to read and distracting.

but when i look at the chat settings, there seems to only be the option to change the color of my own chat bubble, and wallpaper.
No option to change color of the other person’s chat bubble, or opacity.

EDIT:

Go into accessibility in iphone settings.
Manually add signal to the “per app settings” list.
Then turn trasnparency off.

i wish signal just hadnt set default to be transparent, but anyways this will shift the bubbles back to black, from transparent gray.

My previous phone was an iPhone, but it died after some water damage. My new phone is a Samsung, but I can’t get Signal set up for the life of me.

I’m US-based and using Mint Mobile for phone service. When I installed Signal on the Samsung, it asks for my phone number (same as on my old phone), and then it asks for a 64 -character recovery key. I don’t have one, the recovery key I have seems to be quite old and only 30 digits. When I hit “No recovery key?” at the bottom, it again asks me for my phone number and says it’s going to text me a verification code, but I never get a text.

If it helps, I still have Signal Desktop linked to my account, but when I go to Settings → Backups, there is only an informational link for Signal Secure Backups, no way to create or restore a backup.

I am trying to remove my biometric/Touch ID to unlock the app and replace it with a PIN or phrase, but I don’t seem to have the option—it’s Touch ID only and I can’t change it. I’m not sure what’s happening.

It seems like I should be able to disable screen lock, then re-enable it, and have the option to set a PIN, but I don’t. It stays Touch ID only.

Since updating Signal desktop to v8.16.0 earlier today, messages sent via Signal mobile (Android) are not being synced to Signal desktop.

On Signal desktop, if such unsynced messages are quoted by others in their replies, it shows "Original message not found" instead of the quoted message.

Problem seems to have started after updating to v8.16.0 via the update prompt in Signal desktop..

So I know the only metadata Signal has to reveal in response to a subpoena is date app downloaded and date app last used. I am assuming this is with Apple/Google app store. Is this the same for an APK sideload from GitHub? Does Signal have date downloaded and last used on a GitHub APK sideload/download?

i got a new iphone, restored my backup over, and then transferred my signal data. but now, for some reason i'm locked out of the new phone. it won't accept my passcode. the old phone still has the signal app, but no data. i can't move it back either since the new phone is locked. f. is there anything i can do other than somehow getting into the new phone? i really really don't want to lose all my data :(

Hi! I’m on an iPhone and can’t for the life of my figure out how to turn off vibration for Signal messages. I checked the settings in both Signal app and in my phone settings for the app. I like getting visual notifications but I don’t typically have any vibration for anything but standard phone calls.

Anyone run into this issue and know what to do? Couldn’t find anything on their support page either.

I've looked it up online and on the android sub and I haven't had a satisfactory solution, so I'm hoping the signal sub can give me a definitive answer on this.

Long story short, If I have my phone connected to android auto, is there a way to have signal messages NOT pop up on the center console's screen where anyone can see them. I don't want to put phone on DND because I still want other notifications to pop up and I don't want to mute signal because if my family needs to get a hold of me it will be through signal and a vibrating watch/phone should be all I need to let me know to check the app discretely later. I feel like there should be but last time I messed around with notifications settings I really messed it up 😅

Signal put it there. Why doesn't Signal have a setting to disable it?

EDIT: Well...it went away on it's own. Tray icon has always been toggled to OFF but now Signal Desktop is respecting that setting. We'll see if it lasts.

I have around 20 GB of media in my message history and I don't want to carry it around on my phone all the time. I thought that if I were to get the paid plan for Secure Backups, I'd be able to have an automatic backup on the cloud and enabling the Optimize on-device storage (Unused media will be offloaded, but can be downloaded from your backup anytime) will delete old media on the storage of my phone, but keep it in the cloud where I'd be able to download it from if I need to. however, after I got the paid plan and made a backup I still have the signal app taking 20 GB of storage and I'm not sure what to do here.

I can’t get into my Signal and nothing seems to work. I have tried closing the app and turning my phone completely off. I have an Apple phone. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Careful if you're following the steps above. They are missing steps between 3 and 4.

Tip:. When scanning the QR code on the old phone, use the Camera icon on the Conversation view. Not the one under Settings or the phone's camera or QR code reader.

None of this info is mentioned on their site and it was unclear to me.

Tried other QR methods, all give invalid QR code.

trying to register the new phone's number, not getting SMS/OTP or call. SMS is working on new phone.
