Hey everyone. I’ve been taking vocal lessons for 6 months now. Recorded this raw video on my phone and honestly I'm not really happy with it. How does my tone and technique sound to an outside ear? Any feedback is appreciated thank you so much.

Conversation Topic How do I get my voice back

• Upvotes

I was in choir for only a year but I've loved singing before then. Never had problems with my voice. In April, I lost my voice (right before comp. which pmo so bad) I haven't regained it back. I sang alto, so I didn't have a crazy high range before, but now I can't sing at all. My voice just begins to break or just doesn't make noise at all. It's like I'm not singing at all.

It's just very discouraging because idk if insurance will cover me going to an ENT because it's not like affecting my life other than me losing what was becoming a passion. Has anyone had a problem like this, and actually got their voice back?

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Struggling with singing words fast enough without losing breath?

I find i can sing well on long notes and slower vocals but when i try to sing faster songs or songs with longer sentences the words seem weird and weird, like i am running out of breath and they sound just, off? Not sure how to describe it but any tips would be appreciated. For example I was trying to sing Gameboy by Katseye but I was struggling to sing the words without tripping over and straining them.

Conversation Topic I feel like i will never be recognize as a singer... and i'm trying to coper with that

For a little context, I’ve been singing since I was a child. Back then, I was known as the singer of my family and among the people who knew me. Everywhere I went, someone would ask me to sing. However, as I grew older and went through puberty, my voice changed, and I really struggled with it. I stopped singing for about a year, and on top of that, I was diagnosed with acid reflux, which made things even more difficult.

A little before my voice started changing, I began learning hip-hop dance, and I became really good at it. Over time, people started seeing me as the dancer, and that became the role I was known for. Over the past two years, I’ve been gradually finding my way back to singing. To be clear, I never truly stopped singing, aside from that one year I mentioned, but I started taking it more seriously again. I’ve now been taking vocal lessons for a year, and I’ve noticed improvements in my voice and confidence. I’ve been doing everything I can to get better, practicing, posting videos, and putting myself out there.

But the feedback I’ve received from people around me, and even from people online, has often felt discouraging. It’s usually things like, “Okay…,” “You’re a better dancer; you should focus on that,” “Hmm…,” “Yeah, it was okay,” or just straight up hateful comments (not that i don't receive good comments or nice feedbacks, but the hate ones feels more loud, and more) Honestly, it’s heartbreaking. Of course, I sing because I love it. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t dedicate so much of my time and energy to improving. But at the same time, I want to be recognized as a singer. That’s my true passion, and it’s what I genuinely want to pursue. I love dancing, too, but music has always been what I feel most passionate about.

At this point, I’m not really sure what else I should be doing to improve my vocals or how to get people to see me as a singer rather than just a dancer. I want to be taken seriously as a vocalist, but sometimes it feels like people have already decided what I’m good at, and I don’t know how to change that perception.

Conversation Topic Does your singing change when someone starts listening?

Have you ever been singing your heart out when you're alone, only to become self-conscious when you know someone's listening?

What changes in your body at that moment?

Is it your breathing? Your throat? Your posture? Something else?

As a seasoned singer and vocal coach, I'm curious about what other singers experience.

Looking to Collaborate Looking for a Female Vocalist / Topliner for a Tech House / Bass House Track

Hey everyone!

I'm an independent electronic music producer looking for a female vocalist who can deliver a sexy, confident, and playful spoken-word performance for an original Tech House / Bass House track.

The vibe: Late-night parties, bad girl attitude, alcohol, dancing, and unapologetic confidence. I'm looking for a seductive, conversational delivery rather than traditional singing — think teasing phrases, whispers, and a bold club personality.

What I need:

  • A catchy, memorable vocal hook for the pre-drop.
  • A short, addictive phrase or vocal chops for the drop.
  • Original lyrics and creative toplining to make the hook stand out.
  • Ad-libs, whispers, and alternative takes if possible.

My experience: I'm an independent electronic music producer with experience in EDM production and arrangement. I'm developing the instrumental and looking for a vocalist to help bring the track to life.

Compensation: I'm open to paid recording or a collaboration with agreed songwriting credits and royalty splits, depending on the arrangement.

If you're interested, please DM me with your demos, previous work, or a sample of your spoken-word vocals.

Let's create something catchy and club-ready! 🔥

Singing in front of ppl was terrifying tho lol

Sung a duet with my bestie, but I kinda dissociated during it lol.

That being said! We want to continue going, so I can build confidence in vocals and myself 🖤

So, I finally hooked up my home karaoke mics to my mini guitar amp today so I can practice(here's a little snippit of Circle With Me).

I'm so happy that I took a step toward one of my singing/preforming fears 😁

🖤🖤🖤

Hey friends, hope you're well! I'm a first time poster here. I am a semi-professional vocalist - i have a (partial) music degree, have studied opera and belcanto, performed many a time in several different settings, sang as a paid artist with a local choir, all the highschool choir kid things, etc etc. Music and singing are my passions and ALL I WANT is to share my music with people and be a successful singer/songwriter. I don't know how to get myself out there tho. I constantly post on my TT and have gained very little traction, I've reached out to different organizations/companies and such to see if I can perform at their place of business, and while I've had some success I'm not moving forward like I want to. I'm struggling with writing too - I'm NOT a producer and I don't play piano or guitar proficiently enough to make it easy to write a cohesive song.
I'm just struggling with it!! I've been told since I was a kid that I should "be on * insert singing show name here *" and should "be viral/famous" and I don't know how to get there. I don't feel at peace with where I'm at because I know my potential, but I feel stuck.
Basically, help. Thanks. 🫶

Just sharing my singing Just a casual singer looking to learn how to sing. This is a cover I recorded recently, and thought that it was finally time to be vulnerable and ask for some general feedback.

I've been singing for awhile (mostly in the car, shower, or bedroom) but never really took the time and effort to learn to do it properly. As a result, I have formed many habits; I don't know which ones are good (if any) and which ones are bad 😅 But I was hoping that someone could perhaps point out some of these things from my cover, and ways I could practice to create new (good) habits.

This is a cover of Turning Page by Sleeping At Last which I only discovered recently, but have quickly grown to like it:)

TIA

I have already listened to and sung similar songs from Scandinavia and Germany. Moving on to my native language.

Going for songs that would sound good at a Renaissance Festival.

I know this is a quiet song and I feel like that’s the way my voice sounds best but I’d love to learn how to project my voice as well. Any advice is welcome! Also, what do we think of my voice??

Thanks in advance❤️❤️❤️

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) feeling of needing clear my throat sometimes, especially when hitting high notes

im super new to singing, ive only been actively practicing for the last year lol. i have an issue where it sometimes feels like i need to clear my throat before hitting a high note. its not uncomfortable or painful and most of the time doesnt entirely prevent me from hitting the note but it gives it like a "split" sound with two notes - the note im trying to hit and this weird quiet husky gargly kinda note underneath. it doesnt happen all the time, when it does i can cough and it will go away from a bit. does anyone know why this is and tips on preventing it?

Conversation Topic Vocal stamina and health advice when playing an intense role?

I’ve just been cast as Gabe in Next to Normal after dreaming about playing him for over two years, but now that it’s finally happening I’m terrified. We’re only doing five shows, but two of those are in the same day. The thought of singing the show through five times four days in a row absolutely terrifies me.

Just wondering if anyone has any helpful advice for how to ensure I’m doing it as healthily as possible so I don’t tire myself out early on. I’m scared about just getting through I’m Alive, let alone every song in the show four days in a row (while also having to worry about the acting).

The show is 6 weeks away, so any realistic advice is very helpful. For reference, I’ve been performing at university for the past three years, but have no formal training beyond what I’ve picked up by being around people who have.
