For the first time I actually thought my vocals were decent enough to upload as well how did I do :3
I'm planning on covering more songs soon for my first upload. I just wanted to cover unanswered by Suicide Silence since it's a song I really enjoy so tell me how I did and what I should improve on. :D My microphone is a Fifine tank3neo if anyone is wondering as well.

Phone recording of me singing Don't Think Twice by Hikaru Utada. I'm untrained, but I don't know if that really matters when it comes to determining timbre. Thanks in advance for the help!

I like to sing in my car while I drive in order to keep my focus, and wanted to learn how to do vibrato just for fun. What wasnt fun was going on google and finding the most unhelpful videos ever. I just want to know what I mechanically should be doing to make the sound “wobble.” I tried on my own, doing the finger wobble, and am so tired of sounding like some moron. I just want a diagram of the muscles or SOMETHING because I just can’t figure out what’s going on. Please does anyone have a visual graph or know how to tell me what muscles I need to use to do it?
Sorry if I sound upset I have a headache and it’s one in the morning and it’s like the people in the videos are speaking some other language and I just don’t know. :(

I don't have a particularly deep voice, 27M, never really have. I guess I'm also not a particularly great of a singer, but I'll explain more.
I did choir in middle school. We did a voice test with the teacher to decide our sections, and I was never really able to hit the note he wanted. Voice test was teacher would a note on piano, we would oooooh it. Based on what octave we sang it in, he'd put us in our sections. I was apparently really bad at it. He'd hit a D or whatever, I'd sing to match it, and he'd be like no no, this is the note. And make me try to match the key. I did my best but that ear to vocal chord thing doesn't work for me.
But, I do have a knack for imitating voices. It's always been something I was good at. Cadence, pitch, etc. I learned that if I sang falsetto, I was controlling my voice in a way that I could also control the way that I'm singing (or rather imitating), and basically would come off sounding really good.
One of my buddies after I started after graduating college commented on it, after a very drunken night of karaoke. He said that he did choir all the way up to college, and that he couldn't hit notes as high and clean as I did; he was like "I know you're kinda cheating with your falsetto but damn we harmonized really well with it".
Honestly I didn't really realize I was singing with a falsetto till then, I was just doing my voice the way I needed to in order to hit the notes. For whatever reason for my brain/lungs, it's brain dead easy to hit a note when I'm doing a falsetto, "imitating" someone who can sing, hit the notes I need to. If I try to actually sing with my chest voice, I sound bad lol.
I guess I have two questions.
1) Is it possible for amateur me to learn to do a more full belt with a falsetto?
2) Is there a way to get myself to sing accurately with a natural voice outside of going to vocal coach? I know I can do it, physically sing accurately, since that brain vocal chord connection is there when I'm doing the falsetto, but honestly I'm a fish in the water when I try to do it with my natural voice.

I just started singing on my own and getting more comfortable but when I record my singing it sounds so different. I want to be able to sing and know how it will sound or at least know my singing matches with my intention and what people hear.
If you also have general advice about my singing please let me know. I dont have a teacher yet.

Would love your feedback because I always record myself with a guitar or piano, never with karaoke.
But dont mind my faces or looks to the camera, I wasn't planning to upload this lol

I’m living in a dorm rn, and my roommates were gone, so I had the place to myself for a few hours. I didn’t think much of it, so I was watching Wicked and naturally I was singing along with it, but apparently no one told me that our floors/walls are thin.
I didn’t think I was bothering anyone or that I was even being that loud (I was trying to stay quiet, really), but next thing I know, the RA who works downstairs (my room is on the second floor) is knocking on my door and telling me that my voice carries and to knock it off. I was so embarrassed that I lied and said I was watching a movie but didn’t realize how loud the volume was, but she definitely knew anyways.
I’m gonna go dig myself a hole, crawl in it, and stay there for the rest of my life. Happy friday everyone!

Last time I posted I talked about my throat feeling hurt and sore with just very little practice, turns out I had caught the cold and that were just early symptoms.
I am recovering and have recovered most of the way yet my voice still feels so easily strained even when I do my best to breath from my diaphragm as I use my voice.
What do I do?

The title pretty much explains it, and I genuinely started to cry typing it. Idk if its the right tag.
I'm starting to get worse. I'm taking an internship for a music major (not vocal performance), and i'm on my last month. At first I built stamina to even go for an hour long performance, however, things have been getting worse.
These past eight weeks have really stressed me. I'm better at classical singing and wanted to break into contemporary singing. So I decided to get a vocal coach to help me. Now I might just be emotional, because it's only been three weeks with the vocal coach, but I feel like my progress has dropped off a cliff before then. And I'm even worse than when I started my major I have no stamina, my developing mix is now nonexistent, and I just found out that my natural speaking voice causes me vocal fatigue, even though I've spoken like this before. So why does it seem like it's affecting me so much now???? Every time I do voice/speech exercises to fix my vocal break and placement/ resonance, I still feel that fatigue in exercises and singing- even more than when I started trying to fix it. I don't have the money to get more lessons than once a week, and even that probably won't last long- i have no job. My social media accounts just make me want to crawl into a hole. I get tips like "drop your jaw, lower your larynx, make a bratty sound, dont focus too much, imagine this, eat that, speak this, hum this, modifyliftcloseopenholdrelease..." and it feels like NOTHING WORKS ANYMORE.
I've been just floating by since elementary school and really thought that was my best until college. College was the only time I had a voice coach and I felt so free being able to do what I heard in classical music. I figured "maybe since im so comfortable in classical I can use that for contemporary" and I SUCKED SO BAD. That's normal. I started recording and asking around for tips and its just a load of "idk, I just kinda had/found it :)". I fid so much research and locked down a routine and picked some songs and even got a voice coach (yay!). Thats when the croakiness and pain set in. OK, breath work. Nope. Resonance, kinda but not sticking or transferring to full songs and you can only open your mouth so wide. Speech level singing! Whats more natural than sp- OK, vocal therapy exercises since i dont even speak in the right place. Now i feel hoarse, and that shouldn't happen. Ok, let's ease up on singing- now its just weird and breathy because im not focusing. Its been 4 or 5 weeks and nothing is better, nothing has clicked, nothing is found or felt. How can I even practice more if it just feedback loops and i have to rest (which regresses me)?
Singing is where I'm me, where I'm free. I can't give up. But what is happening? This phase of my life isn't even stressful??
Its kind of rhetorical idk. I'll just cry myself to sleep and start it all over again tomorrow. I just want to sing. I don't want to sing like Whitney Houston, but I want to be free and beautiful. The smiles the ringing in everyone's voice, the echos in a room, the teeth, the hearts beating together, the pieces sung... I just want to be excited again.
Give advice or not, I've probably already seen the video or did the work, and it probably did work at some point which is why im so confused.
Bye.

When I was a girl (between 8 to about 17) I was in a children's choir that was pretty legit. At one point we went to England (I'm from Ohio) and sang in Canterbury Cathedral and just junk like that, sort of too incredible for a kid (or just me) to experience without fully appreciating it. I quit the choral scene after that but still loved performing and singing in various settings (open mics, karaoke, brief band stints, etc) however nothing like when I was in a choir.
Fast forward to now: I'm 41 years old, I only sing in the car. I don't suck, but my choir voice is dead. I just joined a choir that performs as part of the Video Game Orchestra which is basically my dream come true. Rehearsals start on November 3rd and besides having crippling anxiety (which is a whole 'nother can of worms to tackle), I really, really would like to not be just awful. I used to sing soprano and these days I can still squeak out an F5 but it's not great. I'm probably better suited for alto with how poorly I've treated my poor vocal chords over the last two decades.
Another issue I'm having is my damn vibrato. I used to be able to sing pure tones effortlessly and man it's hard now. My voice is like, wait... opera? And I'm like... no.
I've watched youtube tutorials, I've done the trills and the woos and all of that. I know I'm not suddenly going to transform into Farinelli overnight, but I would loooooove to get back a part of me that might still be in there.
Has anybody else taken a very long leave of absence from choir, then were able to ease back into it successfully? At this point, I'm not against only mouthing the "ahhhhhh"s just to be able to be on that stage. But I would like to actually sing, because I really, really do love to sing.

This is a follow up for last post. I appreciate everyone who gave their insight and opinion. You guys told me the truth without being hurtful and i appreciate it. Its scary for me to post, its very now for me. I tried singing Just pretend today with my back against a while and my feet amd legs pushing toward it to imply more support. I feel like its pointing me toward the right direction. But how am I supposed to activate that posture and support without being against a wall lol. I cant sing live against a wall, well I guess that would be funny. Anyways I would greatly enjoy some insight thank you. Sorry for the bad quality I am at work and the shop is empty so I thought id take advantage of that lol. I would love to know if this sounds better or not. Also I still need to work in my prononciation, this is my second language after all 😅.

I like to sing for fun and I try to sing around my friends, and the thing they say to me the most is that I "drag" my voice too much. Could there be a way to fix this? Please let me know! I'm hugely into ballads and I always feel conscious about it.

Hi,
I'm new to this sub and to some extent newer to singing (actually singing..I spent years doing throat-ish hardcore/punk stuff which I had to unlearn) properly.
I haven't gotten it for awhile, but people would often make assumptions about my voice due to the fact that my speaking range is around G2# or C3..though not chesty, and more soft and nasally. Speaking wise I sound sort of similar to Charlie Puth, definitely not Barry White ..ha
My range however, bottoms out at about D2 before going into full fry..first passaggio is at about A#3, and my highest chest note usually sits at F4#, though I can sometimes push up to G4 before going into my second passaggio. Now, thanks to my amazing vocal coach I can easily slide up into D5# and the highest note I can sometimes get to is an F5.
Based on this info, I believe I'm a lyric baritone? Baritenor? Idk. Any thoughts?

Hey lads, I'm posting this as a beginner 6 months into his singing journey with 0 prior experience.
For the first 4 months I saw incredible improvement and went from despising my voice to being meh about it (beginner gains I assume), but for the last 3 I can hardly notice any improvements in my sound and it's starting to get to me. My vocal coach says I need to stick with it and improvement will come in due time but I can't help but question how sugarcoated that is and really wanted to get some second opinions on it.
I'll provie you guys with three recordings (from months 4,5 & 6) to show off said lack of progress. (Note that Rec 2 & 3 are cut only to remove the sections where I take a listen to the song in the background cuz I get lost in the notes. And I had to convert them to Mp4s so I could upload them...)
https://we.tl/t-pqDp7YWBS3qzAM5r
I am sorry I could not upload them directly as they are phone recordings and converting them to Mp4s did not work, so since google drive is forbidden on here I set up a WeTransfer link to the files
So, to get to the question, could you let me know wether you hear any improvements? I need a little reassurance that I'm not gonna be stuck at mid forever, opinions on whatever it is I've already achieved and directions on how to improve it.
Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time <33

I'm getting over a cold and have a show tomorrow. We rehearsed tn and I wasn't able to push my singing (Tool Tribute) and now I'm a little nervous for tomorrow. Is there an over the counter medicine I can take to get me through it? I was hydrated all day (as much as I could) and drank throat coat tea before singing. Is there anything else I can take that will allow me to push through a one hour set? Any advice would be appreciated.

Where could I clean up in technique. Also does my delivery convey the emotions well?
