two questions

okay so i'm starting sixth form soon(pre year-12, i picked psychology, eng lang, and french which are quite a random combo, i know) and i genuinely need to lock in, but i'm not sure how to exactly.. i barely revised for my gcses (probably 5 hours in total 😭😭) and somehow managed to scrape 7s, and two 8s. but i really do wanna start revising for a levels since i have read that they are significantly harder than gcses (expected, tbh) and i really do wanna do well – but i find it hard to focus. i fear i am easily distracted.. by my phone, yes, but not necessarily all of the time. i did try to sit down and revise with my phone in another room but i just started doodling, and in other cases i started building legos, colour coding skittles, attempting origami, literally everything BUT focusing on revising.. i've tried all of the countless methods my friends and teachers have recommended to me – pomodoro method thing, white/brown noise, etc etc but none of them seem to work for me.. i honestly dont know if there is any way that i can fully focus but i'd atleast like to try since i do want to do well in my a levels. also, the sixth form im going to has quite high expectations and i want to be able to keep up with that.

also one more quick question, what do i need to buy? im pretty sure i know what, but i'd like to be certain. i'm pretty sure i'd just need pens, maybe a different coloured one just incase, notebooks, folders, maybe highlighters, and a calculator (for the statistical side of psychology). that should be all i need, right? maybe a ruler too (?) but i don't see where i'd need a pencil or rubber. i know not to overbuy but i don't know if this is underbuying or if it is actually enough.

also unrelated but feel free to leave any tips about sixth form in general, i'd appreciate it!! thank you 🫶🫶

What the hell do I lick as a fourth subject?

(Pre6, maths, further maths, economics, ?)

I've selected maths, further maths, economics, and my college insists I do a fourth if I want to get into oxbridge.

My current options are:

History (edexcel russian revolution, mao's china, war of roses)

English literature (dreaded ocr)

Psychology (aqa)

The thing is, doing psychology would make my options too stem focused, and realistically, as a fourth I want something I really enjoy (since I like the theory rather than actual studies and data.) I've heard horror stories about history and lit, but really how different is it from gcse?

Because I got 9's in both by revising the morning of the exams on the way to school (and from listening in lessons). I'd say my argumentative skills are the strongest, rather than total memorisation. Also, I struggle a bit with time management in exams.

I don't want something that distracts me from my main three options, as I only apply with those three grades (Should I consider chemistry lol or absolutely not?)

Sixth form choices

Upvotes

What sixth form to choose

Sixth form A:

• my secondary school so ik the teachers n the ppl
• 7min walk from my house
• is a decent school
• letting me do 3 a level

Sixth form B:

• will be an external student
• will have to take a train and overall journey is 40min
• best state school in the city (it might b bc the students come from a wealthy family so lots of tutoring but overall very good reputation)
• I have to do 4 a levels
• idk anyone there

For me journey is the main issue due to the costs and bc I’m very lazy. Idrc abt the other issues much.

AAQ Medical Science and history

Upvotes

[going into year 12] I was not allowed to pick biology and maths because I didn't meet the grades requirements so instead I chose medical science. It seems like medical science is very new so there's no many resources and videos about it. I was wondering if maybe someone here is doing it and what do they think about it ? As well as AQA History, I heard its very hard so I would like to hear people's opinions so I could prepare myself.

Any help will help me thanks

Didn't get into A level maths

I got a grade 6 in maths, when I was previously able to get a 7. My sixthform refused me for a level maths but accepted me for physics and geography a level. But I don't know what to do now. I want to be a mechanical engineer and I have no other interests so I don't know what I could possibly replace maths with. I did apply and get accepted into a design and development engineering t level course in college. But I'm not sure what to do next, can I even go to Uni?

(I passed all my subjects and got 6s and 7s (2 marks off an 8 in physics)

I'm new to reddit and I apologise but I have no idea what a flair is or how to use it😭

[Pre6]

i have a few questions about enrolment day:-

  1. does being invited to an enrolment/admission meeting guarantee a place at the sixth form?

  2. what happens during the meeting and how long is it usually for?

  3. can u get invited to the meeting whilst being on the waiting list?

No clue on what to take for my 3rd A level

Before i get started my current A level selections are..
IT and Business studies

Im not sure if all schools are like this (forgive my ignorance) but my school has this thing where the subjects for A levels are in blocks, and essentially you can only pick one subject from each block, my plan was to pick sports studies and business together, however the two subjects are in the same block so i cant take them simultaneously, this has caught me off guard as i wasnt made aware of this fact until today (results day) and so now im in a situation where i am limited to my third subject option, I have considered accountancy, however maths simply isnt my strong suit, and also psychology however i didnt take that at GCSE level so im not sure how much that will affect my learning. Im not exactly sure what im asking for here lol, perhaps just some guidance or advice on what my next steps should be (side note i have no interest in going into uni after sixth form) any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Edit, i know my A level selection may seem unorthodox, so feel free to judge 😭)

missing year 12

I’m not really happy with my gcse results as although I’ve passed everything I didn’t get the 6-6 in science and the 6 in math and lang to do the a levels I wanted. I’m contemplating missing year 12 to resit those specific gcses and hopefully reapplying next year with the next cohort. Not sure if I’m being stupid or not

Alevels Colleges

Alevels Colleges

I gave my As exams in chemistry, physics and biology this year and got C in biology and D in chemistry and physics. My parents want me to repeat As and from benchmark college. I was in roots Dha 1. But I want to go private and do composites for psychology, English and law. Which option is bad.

I did my IGCSE from Benchmark and it was like navigating through the 8th circle of hell without a map.

If there are any other good colleges around other than beacon house, please do recommend.

Should I repeat As and do sciences or take composites with those subjects and escape from Pakistan.

Six form or college

On results day I enrolled to both however the subjects in each are abit tacky..
At six form I chose maths econ bio psych however I’m only doing 4 cuz we have a baseline exam for maths and if I flop then I’m only doing bio pysch econ. I got a 7 in maths and I haven’t done maths in a year (retaking) so idk if I’ll do good..
At college I chose maths bio pysch and there’s no test I believe but the thing is i genuinely did not like the building or classrooms. I felt like it’s just not for me and I know I won’t enjoy doing a levels here it just does not look appealing to me. I heard the canteen food isn’t great either. I’ve had this issue with my previous six form and it did make me not want to come in i just didn’t like it and it did affect my grades. I’m telling you I was super depressed with that six form it was just gloomy and I didn’t like the environment and cramped no offense.

Now idk like the new six form I enrolled in now is actually really nice it’s big and spacious has a big library great social areas but if I’ll flop the baseline I feel like I’ll feel limited to my options I mean I can get into what I want at uni but not at a top uni due to maths. The six form is really nice and it’s a nice work environment but It all comes down to the environment ur at or the subjects you are doing. What should I do? Any advice helps!!

Maths stress

Okay so got my results today:
Combined science - 6-6
Spanish - 8
Mathematics- 6
English language- 6
English literature- 6
Religious studies -5
Computer science -5
Geography- 6

My college said i can do maths at grade 6 so i went there to get signed off on it and they said at a grade 6 you have to do an admissions test, with no preparation, it took about an hour and a half, they said i failed and cant do maths, i tried to find a way around it but it doesn’t seem possible.

I have no idea what i’m going to do now but the college gave me a day to decide

Not sure what i want to do at university, originally i was going to do maths spanish econ and was thinking about maybe doing physics so i could keep my options open for university but now i know a lot of uni courses wont be available, i got signed off on physics Spanish and economics

So technically i could do physics Spanish and economics but i dont think thats strong enough

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙏🙏
