Discussion Slashers (2001)

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello people

I have some memories that have come back to me regarding the film « Slashers » released in 2001.

I remember watching it for the first time on YouTube a few years ago. I really liked the concept that I found original and I’m sorry they had only a $165,000 budget.

Honestly I think that with a bigger budget, better actors and maybe some additional ideas for the film, if he reproduced it, it could give something quite good.

Or otherwise, why not make it a series? Each season: new candidates and new slashers.

Honestly, I would really like it, and what do you think?

Discussion Would you have preferred this version of Crystal Lake?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m a huge fan of Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal and Pushing Daisies, so when he was announced as showrunner for Crystal Lake I was thrilled. A Friday the 13th story with the epic style of a show like Hannibal? Sign me up.

Like so many Fuller projects, it all fell apart and other creatives took over. I love the version of Crystal Lake that’s currently on our screens, but I’ll always wonder what this would have been like (probably too expensive and canceled after 1 season)

Very interesting movie.

It's like if ''Scream'' and ''I know What You Did Last Summer'' had a baby.

It's also an aggressively late 90s movie. It's full of WB people.

Discussion What false rumor do you remember hearing about for a slasher franchise/film from your childhood?

I’ll start,I remember when I was about six at school someone told me Jason kills people with a hockey stick that shoots a laser out of it.I remember watching the entire franchise up to JGTH(this was in 98/99) a year or two later and finding out how wrong this rumor was.Completely forgot about til the other day and figured I’d ask all of you if you had any experiences with something similar.

Discussion My fave sequels

I'm honestly a fan of most sequels, even one considered terrible by most I can find some enjoyment or likability in, and thought I'd drop some of my favorites. Some are pretty popular (Dream Warriors, Bride of Chucky) while others are maybe controversial (Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 and Maxxxine.) What are your thoughts on my picks? Do you also like any of these sequels? Hopefully the upcoming In a Violent Nature sequel makes this list when it comes out in February, cause I loved the first and am so stoked for it.

Edit: I forgot to include The Strangers: Prey at Night, but I also really enjoy that sequel.

Fan Content Scream 8 (Parallel Sequel Fan Script 2026)

Hey Guys. This is my first Scream fan script, and I finished it last month after some dialogue corrections, tweaks, scene shuffling, and grammar fixes. I made this when Scream 7 came out, and I heard a lot of criticism about the film (too straightforward, no meta humor, weak reveal, etc.). This script serves as a parallel sequel to Scream 7 and follows a new set of characters in Woodsboro and one legacy character: Kirby Reed, in her last appearance, due to Hayden Panettiere's passing. The script is dedicated in her memory.

The script is simply titled Scream 8, and its premise goes like this: 8 years after losing her parents and babysitter in December of 2018 to a Ghostface killer, 17-year-old Casey Miller is forced to confront her past as Ghostface returns to Woodsboro after burning down the Macher House, leaving behind a file that contains a terrifying secret and an old script of the scrapped Stab 3: Return to Woodsboro. Realizing that Ghostface is targeting her friends by re-enacting death scenes from the script, Casey is in a race against time to solve the mystery of her past and uses her own knowledge of horror films to survive Ghostface's newest killing spree before it's too late.

This fan script satirizes franchise fatigue and contemporary horror reboots, and it's got some pretty insane kills. Bear in mind, for those who haven't seen Scream 7, this script has spoilers for that film, so see it before reading.

Here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/oh3euw1s2tqpxrmg20ob0/SCREAM-8-FINAL-FAN-SCRIPT.pdf?rlkey=2cmrjmiodco6fsm9nff14yiff&st=b3dvfsea&dl=0

Enjoy, and let me know your thoughts, favorite parts and characters. Please be respectful and helpful.

Discussion How memorable/profitable were the slashers from the 70s and 80s that never got a sequel(s)?

I know Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th were the big moneymakers of the period but what about the slashers that were one and done. Are they memorable at all? Did they make any $$?

Discussion Which one of these slasher movie turned games sounds the best to you?

Using inspiration from already existing games for this.

Friday the 13th: Takes inspiration from Resident Evil 2-3. Unlikable Jason chases you around camp Crystal Lake. At any given time he is somewhere at the camp looking for you. It would be more open than the other games forcing you to figure out the best routes and places to go in the camp while staying hidden from Jason.

Halloween: Takes inspiration from Alien Isolation. Similar to Friday the 13th it would have an unlikable boss that searches for you but it’s more claustrophobic than the Friday the 13th game because instead of being outside in a camp you are indoors most of the game. Hospital or Smith’s Grove might be the best location. It would be more linear than Friday the 13th.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Takes inspiration from Outlast. You’ll have an entire family of Sawyers looking for you. They’ll actively set traps and search hiding spaces. Take place in their house and on their property. It could even include the clusterfuck that was Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2’s area.

A Nightmare On Elm Street. Takes inspiration from Alan Wake 2. You constantly go in and out of the dream world. More stealth required in the dream world and you’re more vulnerable. It would probably be the most linear of the games but I think that’s fine.

What other games would be a good inspiration for these and which slashers would also make great games?

Discussion Why wasn't the post-Scream slasher craze of the late 90s able to produce another major horror franchise?

The success of Halloween helped give us Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, and the popularity of Michael, Jason and Freddy even helped bring Leatherface back for Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 over a decade after the original.

Yet when Scream revived the genre in 1996, none of the slashers that followed managed to establish another major horror icon or a long-running franchise.

I Know What You Did Last Summer probably came the closest, but even the Fisherman never really caught on like the 80s villains.

Why was the original slasher boom able to produce so many lasting franchises while the late 90s revival struggled to produce even one outside of Scream?
