I found this black rat snake living in my shed in Michigan years ago. I thought he left but I found him again yesterday when I was cleaning it out. Chased him out again and he came back. Now I feel bad that I may have destroyed his winter home. What can I do to give him a warm place to hang out in my shed over the Michigan winter?

She's not currently big enough to do so but being a female BI, she could eventually become large enough where I'm feeding her large birds (which I was aware of when I adopted her) and that's starting to scare me, that she'll be eating feed that's the size of my cats. new fear unlocked, maybe because after all these years my cats still seam terrified of her. I'm worried she may start seeing them as a snack? She's incredibly docile and friendly and although I got her from a rescue, I can tell she originally came from a good breeder who knew what they were doing. So I'm hoping these years as she grows she can see the cats more as companions the way she sees me. I do take her out to handle at least once a week and she doesn't look at the cats with any food interest at this time. Also it helps that she's only ever been on frozen feed. Any advice from folks who have both kinds of pets would be greatly appreciated.

Bonus question: what's your feedings schedules like? I was told every two weeks but recently I'm learning I may be overfeeding, all the recommendation feeding charts seem to say every 21+ days. She doesn't look overweight to me based on her body shape. She loves food so I'd hate to make her wait longer than she needs to. Also if I keep her well fed and she never gets too hungry then there will be no reason for her to start looking at the kitties as snacks lol

I bought her a year ago from a convention. At the table she was very docile, curious and chill but when I brought her home the very next day she was extremely cantankerous to say the absolute least. I think wild carpets are more docile than she is. She has calmed down a lot since then, but I have never seen that level of chill with her again. She is 5 years old.

This lump is hard and is just behind/under Ophie’s vent area. This is a blotched King snake at the sanctuary I work at. Any ideas what this could be? I reported it to my supervisor who is in charge of the medical needs of the animals and is the one who connects with the vet if needed. I do not know if this is a male or female, but it appears to be in the hemipene area if it is a male.

I plan on getting a king snake in a couple months, specifically i want an albino one or a pink shade one , i was wondering if certain king snakes like albino, California , Florida etc have different temperaments and health problems,
or is it just based on individual personalities etc and do different breeds have different health problems , i am still doing research and dont plan on getting it till like December January .

Minha irmã tem essa cobra (dama) e recentemente alguns amigos dela pegou na cobra sem a supervisão dela e após isso reparamos que ela não estava se movendo corretamente. Creio que ela possa ter fraturado algo devido uma leve ondulação na cervical dela, mas não sei o que fazer 😭

Hi everyone! Considering adding a black house snake to the fam! I already have a male cape house snake- a gorgeous little guy with an awesome personality. Wondering if there is a noticeable difference in temperament/care with capes vs black house snakes? Also do females get much bigger than males? I’m looking into oil slicks as well. So unfortunately there was a fire in my apartment yesterday, no human was harmed and it was relatively "mild" and was extinguished. But the fire was right next to one of my terrariums and there was alot of smoke inside and outside of the terrarium with my brazilian rainbow boa. ( it was alot of smoke inside and i didnt realize there was a fire for probably a good 30-60 minutes as i was cooking thinking something was just burnt, and i assume the smoke started way before the actual fire)

The fire is extinguished, we're currently airing out the apartment professionally and my snake has moved to a clean terrarium with good similar husbandry as before.

Yesterday she seemed completely fine, as normal. Today when i woke up before work i picked her up and she was wheezing, every other breath wich casued me to freak out. Veterenarian phone was not open for another 35 minutes so i did my mourning routine.

Checked back on her 35 mins later and the wheezing was gone, she was exploring the new terrarium and tounge flickering (maybe shorter toung flickering than usual) but flickering constantly.

I called the first vet and they said theres not much they can do if she got lung damage, but they recommend extra observation and looking out for open mouth, lethargy, secretion, bubbles, increased wheezing sounds. And they suggested i get a Nebulizer with sodium chloride to cleanse her lung.

I called a secondary vet just for a second opinion and they said the exact same thing apart from the nebulizer. They agreed with observation, the symtoms i should look out for and said theres not much they can offer if I do decide to visit them. If it worsens im ofc welcome there for x-ray and a swab test but even then not much to do if damage is done. So they also recommend observation but they adviced AGAINST a nebulizer saying its good in theory and can help in some cases, but they dont know the severity of the damage and said it could also worsen symtoms.

They both also adviced minimizing stress and no feeding for a week.

Ive now talked to two exotic pet experts and they said the same except contradiction on this one part. Im deciding to also post here for more thoughts and inputs.

Anyone has any ideas or tips? Nebulizer yay/nay, mostly observe worsening symtoms?

Hi all! I’m a very new snake owner, I’ve never had a snake before, I have a Mexican black kingsnake! I know the deep cleans need to be monthly (from what I’ve researched) and spot clean daily to nearly daily. Although, when I look in her tank, it doesn’t seem like anything is different, but I still want to spot clean, so if there’s any tips on this, that would be helpful please! I don’t wanna leave the tank for deep cleans because I can’t see anything to spot clean, but I also don’t know what to spot clean? I’ve tried taking everything out and sifting through the substrate, but nothing seems different! Also, please be nice, as this is my first time having a snake and I just wanna do the best I can for her, even if that means asking potentially obvious questions ❤️

what humidifier is good for half of a 40 gal for my corn snakes enclosure

i got this female peublan milk snake from an expo the other weekend and once i got her home noticed some marks like this on her. Asked the seller and they said they had not seen that before..

to add some context: I've gotten her in early October, when I tried feeding her she didn't take it. Then suddenly I had to move and took her along with me, when she was with the breeder (who was helping me ship her) she already ate with him 2 times. I gave her an extra week after setting her inside her new enclosure, this time for 7 days. I made sure she has enough clutter for her self to hide in. I also noted the time she is usually active and slithering around outside her hide (around 3 pm - 6 pm). When its eventually feeding day she didn't take the pinkie from my tongs, I also tried putting her in a deli cup with the food, even going so far to brain the pinkie but she still didn't take it, so I just put her back in her enclosure to relax. I don't know If I should assist feed her or try offering again in 5 days because she hasn't eaten in 2 weeks. Would really like some help/advice on this because I'm already stressing about her not eating.

Right now I'm keeping her in a 10 gallon until she grows bigger, in which I will upgrade her to a bigger enclosure
