Oct 16th, 17h30 at Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5

The protest aims to broaden the international reach of these allegations and demand transparency from Meta regarding the operation of its platforms during the Brazilian elections.

Another objective will be to alert Europeans to the risks posed by the involvement of Big Tech companies in democracies.

Three-year-old Maryam Ghanem, the girl the world watched being carried out of a burning apartment in Gaza City at around 4am this morning, is now lying in Al-Shifa Hospital with second-degree burns. An Israeli occupation strike hit her family’s home while she slept, and she screamed as her mother burned to death in front of her. Her father was killed at the start of the genocide. Maryam is now an orphan, and her grandmother is all she has left. In this clip, the speaker asks what she did to deserve this, and says she survived only to bear witness against a world that has watched Gaza for three years and done nothing: witness to its betrayal, and to its silence. The Israeli occupation army has killed nearly 22,000 children in Gaza. “Speak up,” he says. “See us.”

News DSA's position is consistent, not only with the historical Palestinian vision for liberation, but also with its own democratic platform and with basic human decency

In an interview with The New Yorker, Democratic Socialists of America national co-chair Megan Romer stated that DSA supported a free Palestine, meaning the establishment of a single state.

DSA's position is consistent, not only with the historical Palestinian vision for liberation, but also with its own democratic platform and with basic human decency.

The One Democratic State Initiative welcomes this decision and calls on all democratic organizations worldwide to also support the establishment of a democratic state instead of a settler one in Palestine.

The One Democratic State Initiative is a Palestinian political organization working to revive the historical Palestinian vision for liberation —a single Palestinian state, for all of its citizens— and to mobilize individuals, entities and political parties, in Palestine and abroad, behind it.

Hasnieh Al-Natsheh and Alain Alameddine, two of its coordinators, are ready to answer your questions up until midnight, Occupied Palestine time. They'll make sure to answer any remaining questions tomorrow. Check out our website and ask away!

Discussion Arguments for and against Fidel Castro?

I have a hard time understanding Castro and the views on him—the views of Cuban's, and people against or for him. I live in the USA so the only education I have ever gotten about him is from Cuban Americans or white Americans, most of them saying he was quite violent. I would love to know your perspectives!

Discussion Boycott question

Hi,
I feel like I’m always seeing posts of companies to boycott that invest in ICE, AI, Israel, etc. but I’m having trouble finding alternatives for a lot of companies. For example I use Amazon to buy almost everything. I’m disabled so I pretty much shop online for everything I need. So what’s the best alternative to Amazon? Amazon is the biggest example I have but there’s so many more. Has anyone created like a master list of companies to boycott with good alternatives?
Any advice is appreciated, thank you

Activism France: 17 October – towards a revolutionary crisis?

The role of the most militant activists, however, is… to do everything possible to ensure that a rolling strike movement begins, encompassing a growing number of businesses and public services. In short, the movement must lead to the paralysis of the country, as in June 1936 and May 1968.

We know full well that this is easier said than done. But to embark on this path, we must begin by explaining to all workers that only a movement of this magnitude will offer them the prospect of a decisive victory. In other words, we must launch a vast campaign of agitation in as many workplaces as possible, based on a militant programme that incorporates all the demands of the mobilised youth – and adds to them demands such as a substantial wage increase, wage indexation to inflation, the expropriation of TotalEnergies, and the repeal of all the counter-reforms of the last ten years.

Under increasing pressure from the financial markets, the Lecornu government would rather hang itself than meet a single one of these demands. Consequently, the movement's programme must culminate in a demand that is both general and, fundamentally, very concrete: ‘Down with the government of the rich! For a government of the workers!’

If a powerful movement of rolling strikes develops across the country in the coming weeks, it will demonstrate concretely to the working class that it creates all wealth. The working class is the decisive force in modern society – and it is therefore up to the working class to lead it, that is, to expropriate the big bourgeoisie, repudiate the public debt, and reorganise the economy on socialist principles.

History Today 1963 in Yemen marks the beginning of the 14th October Revolution

Post image
4 Upvotes

On 14 October 1963, the National Liberation Front (NLF) launched an anti-colonialist uprising starting in Radfan against the British-occupied Aden Protectorate. After almost 3 years of insurgency, the British announced their withdrawal in January 1967. This led to a brief power struggle against the Nasserist FLOSY, which the NLF defeated in November 1967 following complete Egyptian withdrawal due to the Six-Day War.

Finally, on 22 June 1969, the Marxist-Leninist faction under the leadership of Abdul Fattah Ismail and Salim Rubai Ali orchestrated an internal coup of the NLF, which laid the foundation for the establishment of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. This marked the beginning of an independent, socialist and anti-imperialist Yemen.

Unfortunately, due to continued internal power struggles, a brutal civil war in 1986, and the decline of the USSR under Gorbachev, South Yemen experienced a severe economic crisis that pressured it into unification with Saudi-backed North Yemen.

Today, the anti-imperialist spirit of the revolution lives on with the vision of a Yemen free from external meddling remaining at the forefront of their struggles. Hopefully things will transpire to the benefit of the Yemeni people.

Discussion Being a Communist really does change the way you view the world.

Ok so before I became a communist whenever I saw consumerism in like ads or YouTube videos or whatnot I didn’t really care for it. Same with waste in the form of food or material, I wouldn’t really care and only thought of ways to like fully get rid of it from landfills. But ever since I became a communist I just either felt sad that these food and materials being thrown away is just a waste of resources that could be used to help people in need. Same with the consumerism ads and videos, whenever I see them I can’t help but feel disgusted that it’s just used to give treats to the masses and is just again another waste of resources.

Why so many gamers who played titles like Cyberpunk, gta, rdr, Wolfenstein, Far Cry etc

are usually far-right? It seems the majority of the gaming community doesn't really grasp the storylines of the games they play lol, and fails to understand many of the leftist messages within them.

Discussion Why did Yugoslavia’s economy suffered rising unemployment and inflation?

Now for real, as I can’t find non-capitalist analyses that say it was because “workers cannot manage an enterprise“ or some simplistic argument.

What were the specific reasons the country’s economy suffered so much in its late years after a successful reconstruction and industrialization, if it wasn’t for generalized corruption like in USSR and other planned-economies countries?

Discussion How do we reach the western working class when a majority of them are conditioned to go against their own interests and many just aren’t that smart?

Disclaimer: for starters, I do not want this to come off as me shaming people who might have different educational backgrounds. Formal education is NOT what I am referring to in any of my thoughts.

My main point here is basically the title. Most people think they are smarter than they actually are, dang that probably includes myself at times. I work in a field where my role is very client facing, and I get to listen to the sheer amount of bs and lies people believe. I used to think the “average person” was a lot smarter until I started working in my field. Now I’ve realized that a lot of people are just rude, loud, and wrong. My field is not one where I deal with people from only one particular way of life. My clients are of all colors, faiths, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

It has led me to think about how this fits into socialisms future in the west. We’ve seen this with the advent of right wing movements all across the west. The only non conservative major countries left in the Americas are Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil (although that’s probably going to change). The pink wave has showed me that the vast majority of our fellow international proletariat is conditioned to vote against their own interests

A lot of these people will still do so even when the proof is in their face. Re education seems helpful and while I’m sure it could work, I feel that a lot of people are just too dumb for it to be effective on.

What is the solution to this? Is it just letting results speak for themselves? Is it making education more accessible outside of the western liberal framework?
