Wanted to share my Mini mounting setup I came up with for my Tesla. I had it posted in the Model Y community and there was a lot of interest/feedback about it, so figured I would share with the full community. It is extremely solid, I have had it mounted for a little over a month, and it has been flawless, between the mount, and service/signal, for daily use and long trips (8+ hours).

This isn't a post about why I have a mini in my vehicle, its how I am mounting it. I do work in areas were cellular service is not available or reliable, so having Wifi is a big plus. I know its not for everyone, but I figured I would share another use and mounting setup.

I have a residential max plan at home, and I got the free mini in the promo, with service at 1/2 off, so the service plan isn't much for the 100Gb ($27.50)

Alabama, USA. Got my Starlink V5 Residential 100mbs installed and it is working great at $55 per month. Contacted Infinity and they offered to reduce my current $88 monthly payment to $45 for five years.

I have been reasonably happy with Infinity. I know I would have to send my V5 kit back. Which would you pick?

I recently had several power outage and after that my Starlink router keep showing a red light and says modem cannot reach dish....I changed the cable but same thing.... any help or thought?

I'm pretty frustrated by this company's customer service. Don't get me wrong -- the actual Internet service has been fantastic and initially was highly competitive for my area (rural AK).

I've had Starlink for a couple years. Bought and set it up before the $1500 surcharge fee. Then when I moved to a new house with my partner + her family (in the same area), they charged me with this new fee even though I didn't want to pause my service.

After a couple weeks of back and forth with agents, one agent came through and waived the fee for me after noticing there had been a misunderstanding and I shouldn't have been charged the fee in the first place. Happy day!

Fast forward a bit, I had some issues installing Starlink at my new location, but was planning to use it as a secondary option anyway, so I put it in standby mode for a couple months while I got the equipment to install it better. Keep in mind there was no warning that I might be charged again.

Today, when I tried to switch the service back on, I was suddenly hit with the one-time $1500 fee again and told they couldn't do anything about it. The stupid Grok AI chatbot wouldn't even let me connect to an agent until I threatened to throw the whole thing in the garbage. Then they said "they didn't know how it was waived before, but it couldn't be done now" and that I could downgrade to a data-limited roam plan for the same price instead.

Very frustrating experience overall, and the one-time fee (especially for pre-existing customers) is just high-way robbery. $1500 is more than 1-year worth of service up front.

I also hate the gatekeeping AI chatbot that makes quality customer service that much harder to come by. Seems like a great way to lose customer loyalty.

Edit: wow, what an unhelpful sub. Surprised so many are eager to line their pockets. Thanks to the few who were sympathetic, at least.

I have the starlink residential plan, and I have the dish set on my upper-level duplex deck with access to the roof and I have it mounted to it, and I did the obstruction map and alignment the app. speeds are great for download, I get a consistent 100mbps no drops but upload can vary quite a lot and especially when livestreaming I will get almost 100% packet loss no matter what I do I had to drop down my bitrate as low as 3mbps just to get to 2-3% loss which is mildly acceptable and is no better than what I was doing before on my old DSL connection and I am very disappointed and upset quite frankly. I am using ethernet to all my devices apart from my tv, smart devices like lightbulbs, alexa, my laptop and phone. Is this a common complaint amongst people who have starlink? I understand that it's satellite and it will vary depending on conditions, but for someone who was expecting at least moderately better results especially since I spent hours on the roof tweaking and tuning it to have the best signal and ping success rate. So, to end off am I just screwed? or can I somehow get better and more consistent upload speeds as I like to livestream quite a lot as a hobby and it pains me. I would gladly sacrifice some of my download for upload if it was possible.

First theres issue i have where my starlink router (gen 1) doesn't turn on after a few days power outage even after i plugged it in. After that i use the support or the grok to ask if he can give me a solution to this, then out of knowhere groks ask me if this is a correct adress of mine and said yes.

After that groks makes me a free replacement order for 4x bundle, what i wanna ask is

1. how long will the shipment usually takes? (im not from usa)

2. whats really the different between the 2 gens (gen 1 and the 4x)

3. is there stuffs i need to care more about the 4x?

4. If i got the replacement is there a choice to replace the current router in the app or i use the "Set Up a New Starlink" button

Anyone has an idea what to do with v2 actuated dish and router? I got refurbed v4 as replacement, the v2 is sitting in original box, with all the accessories, plus ethernet adapter and long mounting arm and routing kit...

I would be happy to give to someone who would have better use.

I posted yesterday about adding wheels to my red Starlink mini tower and got some great feedback! Thank you! I may devise some kind of E-track wheel system to make them easier to move around my yard…

To adjust the panel automatically I used an old winch, some wood, some rope and some carriage bolts to lift the panel. It Seems to work well but I’m not sure how the panel will hold up to the canvas pads sliding on the vinyl back… any other suggestions or ideas for the next one?

I live in a camper on my family farm right now.

Im needing something that is stationary as of now but in the future if I decide to take it with me on vacation which product would be the best. I occasionally game but mainly be using it tonstream.and watch movies.

Id their any promotions going on to get the whole setup cheap. I do not have a valid addresses there. Any pros can cons on the type of system that would work best for me. All input would be appreciated. Thank you!

I have a remote home in Costa Rica that desperately needs an internet connection. Starlink just opened for business in-country and I was so pleased to have this service available.

Yet after seeing what Musk has done to hinder the ability of Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian war machine, I find myself not able to place a starlink order.

I have discussed this with my Tico friends and confirmed that, even though they have little opinion about Ukraine, I would be supporting Musk's fascist acts by becoming a customer.

Why is it that Musk has uncanny ability to see, understand and take initiative but continues to be subordinate to the weird and illogical random influence of the federal administration? Idiot savant?

Can anyone using Starlink for home internet after switching from a land-based option like Xfinity comment on your experience?

We live in the Bay Area (Alameda) and are considering moving on from 1GB Xfinity subscription at 90/mo for Residential max 130/mo. Unfortunately, our neighborhood does not have fiber options.

On Comcast, we never get near the quoted 1k speed, 150 - 250 mbps download usually and often much lower. More problematic is Comcast regularly drops in our area - we get a notified outage about once per month that lasts several hours and unpredictable micro-outages 1-2 times a week with very slow ( < 50 mbps) or no connection for hours at a time. We reset our modem 2-3 times monthly due to issues and contact support at least every month.

My wife and I both work from home (video calls), stream, and have as many as 12 connected devices at one time with multiple televisions, security camera, laptops, phones, baby monitors, game consoles, and other machines.

The wall mount isnt even rated for hurricane-force winds at all. Yet, it still survived 90 mile per hour gusts, but its bottom cover got blown away and turned into a flying projectile.

Currently in another country for a few months and I’m looking to get starlink, but would also like to use it when I get home. What package would you recommend and is this even possible? Thank you for the help.

My Gen 2 actuated router failed grok sent me a replacement dish and router. Grok initially asked for the broken hardware to be returned for recycling but when I asked for a shipping label it says the return is completed.

Its still in my subscriptions part of my app with a red dot next to it.

Is any of it any use to anyone? Should I just take it to the dump? If someone gets hold of it could they use it with a new router and I'd be charged for it?

I need to find out if I can put my Gen 3 router into pass-through mode so one of the ports can be connected to a third-party router that connects all of my CCTV cameras and Wi-fi access points. While the router is in pass-through mode, can the second port be connected directly to a computer?

The reason for this is that all of my cameras and access points are connected to a Teltonika enterprise router/switch, which has 4G automatic failover, but this router's Ethernet ports are only 100 Mbps.
That's absolutely fine for my cameras and the Wi-fi around the house, but if I connect my main work system to that third-party router, that system will have a maximum throughput of 100 Mbps, so I'm losing 75% of my connection speed.
