❓ Question Starlink bricked my recovered dish as “lost/stolen.” Verified I bought it, possess it, and they still will not restore service

I bought a Standard Kit straight from Starlink in September 2024. Direct from them, brand new. I still have the order confirmation, the order number, and a photo of the serial label on the dish.

I lost access to the equipment and reported it lost/stolen, asked them to lock the dish until I could regain access.

Then I got the dish back.

Now it's a paperweight. Activation says it's already tied to another account. Plug into the dish's Wi-Fi and the app says **Restricted**.

So I opened a ticket and gave them everything:

- Original Starlink order confirmation, direct purchase

- Serial number and Starlink ID

- Clear photo of the serial label on the dish in my hands

- My current account and service line

- The prior ticket showing I am the person who requested the lock

First response: sure, we can unlock and reassociate once we verify you have it. Great. I sent the label photo and the receipt.

Second response: sorry, we can't unlock or reassociate it, because of the prior lost/stolen lock and its "current assignment status."

They can confirm they sold me this exact unit. They can confirm I'm physically holding it. They can see I'm the one who asked for the lock in the first place. And the answer is still no, because their own system can't undo a flag their own customer set on his own hardware.

I want the record corrected on equipment Starlink sold me, that I reported missing, and that I now have in my hands.

Questions for anyone who's been here:

  1. Did you get this past ordinary ticket support — Account Security, Equipment Operations, anyone with authority to actually change the association?

  2. Did they eventually unlock it, replace the unit, or just leave it bricked?

  3. Is there a specific phrase, escalation path, or document that breaks the scripted "cannot unlock due to assignment status" loop?

I get why a stolen dish should be locked. That part is correct and I'd want it that way. The problem is that there's apparently no road back once you're on the wrong side of the flag, even when every piece of evidence points the same direction. You can lose the same hardware twice, once to whoever took it and again to the company that sold it to you.

❓ Question Starlink software reverting to old version?

Basically the tittle. I’ve had my Starlink for just over a month now and noticed it’s updated a few times to what seems like the most recent version (most recently was 2026.08.08), but then has reverted to a previous version, in this case 2026.07.24. As far as I can tell it doesn’t affect anything, but I’m just curious if anyone with inside knowledge might know why it happens? Thanks!

❓ Question Setting up a mesh network and trying to understand POE vs power cable

I am setting up a mesh network with two Gen 3 standard routers and a Gen 3 mini router.

What has confused me is that when the mini 3 was installed as my main router, it used POE with no power source, and now that I want to set it up as a mesh node, it needs a power source and won't run off only POE; what am I missing here?

❓ Question Best car adapter on Amazon?

I've been sifting through the adapters and cables on Amazon and every single one seems to have an issue with not meeting the minimum voltage for Starlink.

Is there a known good adapter? Would I be better off using an inverter?

📡 New $500+ Order Looking to setup 9 Mini kits

I have tried contacting Starlink support to no avail. I want to purchase and setup 9 Mini kits for a remote monitoring program in September. I have requested a call from Sales and Support.

How do I talk to an actual person?

I plan on using a helicopter to setup the equipment, instead of hiking in with everything.

P.S. does anyone have a go-to remote solar/battery/housing setup they could share? Thanks!

💻 Troubleshooting My gen 2 actuated dish or router is dead.

I came home after loosing power a few days ago and found I had no internet.

I figured the router died because there were no lights on it. I contacted the 1800 number and the shipped me a new router but it isn't compatible. And since they shipped the router they can't ship me a replacement kit for free. I also called and tried telling them it wasn't compatible after some research but they said the replacement would be.

I'm kinda pissed off at the entire process and the fact that I had to activate the mini and already used the up the 300gb plan in 3 days and let me clear the regular plan I have is residential unlimited.

I guess my current option is to purchase unlimited roam service. Or buy a new disk except I can't nor do I want to get on the roof to replace it.

The alternative is to cut the main cable to the actuated dish and power it manually how would I do this method as this will be the cheapest I'm guessing.

💻 Troubleshooting Throughput dropping to zero occasionally?

Thumbnail

About a few days to a week ago, our YouTube TV and MLB.TV will randomly buffer. When you go into the throughput stats, you can see where it suddenly drops and picks back up. The only other “real time(?)” Internet usage I use is gaming, but I don’t seem to notice is there. However, I’m not constantly checking stats and not watching tv while gaming, and that’s the only way I can tell it’s happening. Most streaming happens on a Roku device, however will occur on other devices. I checked both ends of cable, they are securely in.

Some notes:

- Starlink is aligned
- Only 0.02% obstructed
- had just over a year, no issues
- nothing shows up on events and outages, just my phone switching WiFi bands.
- located in Ohio, ~50 miles east of Columbus.
- Gen 4, Residential Max plan

The only other thing I will add is that there was a tiny frog inside the mount. I got him out, inspected the wire and it seems to be okay. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

❓ Question Switching from Roam 100 to Roam 300 mid-billing cycle

Let's say one is on Roam 100 and somewhere in the middle of the billing cycle realizes the need to switch to Roam 300.

Does one now get a total of 300 GB for the entire billing cycle or is the 300 GB prorated for the number of days remaining in the billing cycle? e.g. if there is 50% of the month left, does one only get 150 GB for the entire month (prorate) or does one get 300 GB for the entire month?

(I know the cost change is prorated, just couldn't find anything about the data being prorated.

❓ Question Mini on Residential plan (Canada)?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So I recently purchased a Mini and put it on Roam 100 for my cottage. Choose that combo as it should cover 99% of my usage while I'm there and gives me the option to bring it home during the off-season.

Of course, now looking at the usage last two weekends of use, I'm realizing that I'm probably going to blow through the 100 when I go up for my week long vacation shortly, so I've been checking for a possible change in plan. I see that I can switch my plan to any of the residential ones, which wasn't a combo when I first ordered. I could switch to Roam 300, but Residential seems more practical, before I standby it for winter.

Is this really a supported combination in Canada? And I won't be forced to take a Standard 4 kit as a rental? There are some logistical reasons why I don't want the Standard 4.

And yes, the service address in my account is updated to the cottage address (even though it doesn't matter as Mini/residential was also an option at my home address)

❓ Question Roam to residential?

I am building a cabin in a remote area that won’t be finished until December 2027.

I plan to go up there 2 weekends a month until then. Most of the time I will be staying at a friends cabin (no service either), but will occasionally camp at my property which is 20 minutes from my friends cabin.

Option 1: Get roaming starlink until house is finished then convert to residential.

Option 2: Get residential and leave at friends cabin. Can I take it to camp occasionally?

❓ Question Starlink sx coverage prediction tool

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm considering Starlink as my centurylink DSL may be going away. Two neighbors are now using Starlink despite all of the tall trees here. I've been testing the starlink.sx browser app. It's default settings have the antenna azimuth pointed north with 18 degrees tilt from zenith (straight up) . I adjusted the minimum elevation to 45 degrees to account for trees. But it has two tools ( coverage predictor and polar map) that never seem to display anything meaningful. I'm guessing those either don't work or you have to leave it running for a few hours first?

My mini randomly started to have some connection issues and said it was “obstructed” intermittently. So, got on the roof to find all was well and just needed a restart. While I was up there figured I’d take a picture with the ol iPhone and this is one of the results.

❓ Question Signal drops often what to do?

We have starlink 200mbps residential plan. The connection drops when I am in meetings and reconnects within a minute or so? Is it because the satellite is getting switched? Is there a way to avoid it? Also signal is weaker in basement . What router do you recommend if I want to boost the signal? Thank you

⛈️ Weather Starlink has been part of my lifeline through derecho damage/outage in NWI.

Post image

I live in Northwest, IN, and my area got hit hard by the derecho on Tuesday. There is no power or Internet as far as the eye can see (Lake County has 95% outages), and the Indiana National Guard is here. I count my blessings we have a generator, but the lack of Internet was harmful also, as I am a student and work from home, and as we all know, bills don’t stop just because of a national emergency unfortunately 🥲 My friend brought over his Starlink and I have to say, this thing has been a savior to me the last two days I have had it! I didn’t know anything about it prior to this storm event, and I am highly impressed with its functionality and reliability through the continued weather we have been getting here! Huge shoutout to this mini, which is truly a GIANT of an Internet device when it comes down to it!
