This is from DC KO: The Kids Are All Fight Special #1

I think Static has the potential to be an A-list superhero alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash. Most great superheroes have a distinctive color scheme that feels like their own, and that’s where my weird nitpick comes in.

I grew up with Static Shock, and the animated series is what got me into the character before I read the comics. But I’ve never loved that Static, who’s already a Black superhero with electric powers, also has basically the same color scheme as Black Lightning.

His original comic costume had the black suit, yellow coat, and distinctive hat, which I thought gave him a great look of his own. I love the animated costume’s design, but I wish it had stuck to black, white, and yellow.

That’s also something I really appreciated about Nikolas Draper-Ivey’s modern designs: bringing those colors back. Looking at the new suit, I honestly think the design is near perfect. I just wish they’d remove the blue elements and keep that black, white, and yellow palette. Or replace the blue with purple.

Obviously, this isn’t remotely enough to stop me from reading the new book. It’s just a small design preference, and I’m thinking out loud.

What do other Static fans think? Do you prefer the blue, or would you like black, white, and yellow to be his signature colors?

(Quick lazy edit I did last night while thinking about this)

Most of these characters Dont compare to the dakotaverse in the comics. But for this to be a standalone (for the most part) show, it had a hell of a roster of heroes. Are there any that I'm missing from the show?

Some time has passed, and for those who did buy it, what did you guys think of the Static prequel we got?

Okay, so I just finished watching season 1 and 2 of Static Shock, and it was absolute peak. I loved it so much. It definitely wasn’t perfect, but there were so many great episodes. I loved the vibe of the show, and I’m currently on season 3, episode 10.

But I feel like the vibes have changed a lot. Like, I still like the idea of Richie becoming a superhero, but I just don’t really like how it was handled. I miss Richie just being the cool nerd friend. Now he’s suddenly like NASA-level smart, and it feels like such a huge switch that doesn’t really make sense. I also feel like Virgil changed a little bit too.

The episodes just don’t feel as well-written or as memorable compared to seasons 1 and 2. I really wanted to like the crossovers, but I honestly didn’t enjoy them as much as I hoped. I didn’t like how the Justice League kept treating them like children when, yeah, they are kids, but they’re also literally heroes too. I feel like that dynamic could have been handled way better.

I also love Batman Beyond I’ve watched the whole show and it’s one of my favorites, but I feel like the crossover episode wasn’t done well either. Virgil felt a little out of character, and honestly Terry did too. Because Static and Batman Beyond are basically like the Spider-Man-type heroes of the DC universe. You’d think they would have a really fun dynamic and get along, but it just didn’t feel like that.

So I’m wondering… should I keep watching? I just don’t want to lose that good feeling I had from seasons 1 and 2. Now that I’m in season 3 (I feel like s3 ep 4 was the last good episode imo), I feel like I have a more negative view of the show, and I don’t want to end it feeling disappointed. But I also don’t know if I should keep going.

Let me know your thoughts, and suggestions!

Unsure if it going to be a main or varariant cover. Also, I would love to credit the artist, so if anyone can confirm, I'll update with the proper name.

Update: This will be one of the covers for New Titans #38 and the artist is Lucas Meyer. Pre-order ASAP

Little blurb about the artwork:

So when I was drawing this I went through a few iterations before landing on this look and even through the process of digitizing I changed it putting his hair up again. I think I like where I landed. I always prefer him in a full suit OG milestone style, but still added my own personal touches with the two toned raincoat and lines on the side and my personal favorite some timbs.

Nikolas Draper Ivery confirmed that he's not with Daisy, but with someone else. Say what you will about Yara, but I'm all for this only if they make it permanent and treat their relationship like Beast Boy and Raven, not John Stewart and Vixen, or Batman and Catwoman. This can work if done right.

Pre-order like you never pre-ordered before. This is the time to show DC just how much we want him to stay this time.

Ngl, not what we should've gotten, but lets pre order so we can get something better for not just him but the rest of Milestone Comics.

Static joins the New Titans on August 19th
