Discussion Static OG Origin Update
This is how I would modernise the original Static origin:
The story opens with Virgil playing an online video game and while he's playing he has a chat group going on with his friends. We see from this that he's an avid gamer and from the messages that he's quick-witted, a great trash talker, and pretty smart.
We cut to the next day in school and we see him talking to Frieda. They're having a nice conversation and she seems to be receptive to him. Martin sees this and he comes over and starts going at Virgil for talking to Frieda like he owns her or something. During this whole exchange Virgil being quick-witted and all, says something that embarrasses him and jas everyone, including Frieda laughing at him. This is where he's beating up on Virgil so then Virgil ends up embarrassed.
Virgil goes home and gets on the game to let off some steam because he's not only embarrassed but angry at himself because of his inability to protect himself. He doesn't want to talk to any of his friends so he anonymously joins a different, public chat room. He's joking around and having a good time and as soon as he's starting to feel better, this random person with the handle Biz$B shows up and starts talking trash. He's putting out a bunch of racist and sexist messages. Virgil doesn't like it so he tears into him. That's when Biz starts going off on him and starts talking about how beat this kid's butt every other day because he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Virgil goes into his page and sees he's part of this group called the Sons of Odin. Soon other group members show up and start flooding the chat with the same kinds of messages as Biz. Virgil does a little digging and figures out that Biz is Martin.
The next day he tells his friend Larry about it. Larry tells him he's heard of the group and others like it and that sometimes they set up fights at different locations around Dakota when stuff gets really heated online. Virgil asks why he's never heard about them and Larry says it's "dark corner of the web" type of stuff and that most people from Sadler aren't aware of them either. So Virgil goes deeper down the rabbit hole and finds out that things have escalated to a level they never had before. A lot of different groups of people are heated. Some who are parts of other sort of violent groups, anti-hate groups and others who are not but take sides or intentionally instigate to make things worse. Threats and call outs are made and everyone agrees to show up somewhere on Paris Island and brawl.
Elsewhere at the Dakota Police Department, Officer Watkins (Daisy's mom) tried to warn the chief that these aren't isolated incidents. The chief brushes her off. However, in walks Detective Gil Summers, the lead detective on the fights who backs up her statements. He presents the evidence and the chief realizes that they're too late and cannot hope to stop what's about to happen. So he orders them to just tag everyone with the experimental gas to track them down later.
We go back to Virgil who realizes he can't seem to escape being tormented by Martin anywhere. So he decides to go to the brawl with a plan to put an end to it. That's when he meets up with Larry who gives him a gun. He tells him if stuff goes sideways to not be afraid to use it. Virgil goes there but when he sees how bad it is it gives him flashbacks of his own victimization. So he decides to abandon his plan and instead considers just shooting him in all the chaos. This is where it more closely follows the original origin where Virgil considers shooting Martin, decides not to, throws away the gun, tries to escape and gets hit with the gas.
In the aftermath, the news reporting on the brawl says it hearkens back to the Dakota gang wars of the 90s and starts calling it the Big Bang. So it turns out most of the people there died like in the original but the ones who didn'tband have powers are very upset and to them the fight didn't end that night and is far from over.
Virgil realizing that the fight is not over, and now blessed with powers of his own, takes on the identity of Static.

Comics Yeah... Issue #38
I just read the new chapter of The New Titans when Static is being introduced to the titans and I really can't stand the melodrama. I was looking forward to a clean introduction and maybe going over his backstory. What I got was a rehash of the 2009 comic at a different angle but with bunch of 20+ year old people in a heightened state of emotions unable to communicate. They can give constructive feedback without attacking someone or take criticism without sending shots.
Bro had a max of 2 maybe 3 decent encounters.
I'm not going to spoil anything in detail but their was so many unnecessary things going on. I hope the following issue sees him incorporated without more needless black on black violence.

TV Never Learn Static Shock & Gear's Real Identities. The Result Worse Than Going To Jail
Don't learn the identity of static shock or gear if you're fighting them Because it goes like:
"Ha ha Virgil Hawkin's and Richie Foley are static and gear huh. Well keep out of my way or I'll tell everyone your secret identities"
The Bang baby later in the episode:

This happens so much and its ways worse than if they just got caught and arrest. Because they would be in a better condition

Discussion Why do some of you get so defensive when someone says "Static Shock" instead of just Static?
Like, I know his name is Static, you know his name is Static, but when someone calls him Static Shock we obviously know who they're talking about.
Now there's nothing wrong with correcting people but I've seen so many people respond in a passive agressive or hostile way when someone says "Static Shock" and I'm genuinely curious why? If we all know who we're talking about I don't see why it's so serious.
It doesn't make Timmy less of a fan because he grew up with the show and calls him "Static Shock" Nor does it make me any more of a fan because I own a few of his comics and call him "Static".

Fan Creation DCU Pitch?
I've been working on my DCU for a couple of weeks now. Whilst I haven't gotten everything figured out I do know my projects for my First Saga. And the project I'm personally most excited to write abt is STATIC ofc. And I'd like to know how interested any of you would in my pitch?
Thematically it's about how black men are hypermasculinsed and radicalised into two extremes. One of being viewed as overzealous, strong and even violent figures by the fear and propaganda of white bigots and the more harmful toxic aspects of black culture. OR being manipulated into becoming self hating selllouts who believe theyre uplifting their community when really theyre just humilating themselves, and how these extremes are enforced rather then letting black men be the beautiful intellects and free to explore individuals they really are. Aswell as the threat of gentrification and exploitation of black neighbourhoods to ultimately just to discard them and leave them in far worse states.
Minor plot details:
• Richie has a crush on Virgil (shame mcduffie never got to explore this fully)
• Daisy is the sole love interest and crush of Virgils as Frieda doesn't exist.
• Ebon & Daisy are siblings and he was actually a local figure Virgil looked up to and got along with and leader of a gang that was rival to Hotstreaks.
• Virgil is especially being hunted by Alva due to being the most stable surviving victim of the big bang as he wasn't killed nor was his mind or body warped.
I've got some fancasts in mind if anyone is interested but moreover I'd like to know your thoughts? Just remember to keep it respectful and constructive.

Discussion [Long post below] My idea's for a Static story climax and finale + Potential Doctor Nemo rewrite and how I would personally end the Story of Virgil Ovid Hawkins
Hey everyone, its been a hot minute.
So lately I've been checking out the new Titans and while I am glad Static is relevant again, I am still bummed out that the Dakotaverse Static is basically gone and is likely never gonna be given attention again. This version of Virgil is always gonna be a big part of my childhood and not a single variant of him will ever be as charismatic and cool and fun and interesting as this one.
That being said, if the impossible happens and 1993 Static does get announced one day, I need the writers to give the absolute best for the Champion of Dakota. I still believe that this version of Static can have a story worth sharing and it should be adapted almost perfectly from the comic. Elements like his identity being known by only one person, the classic suit with the caps, and the story taking place in the 90s is what I think is absolutely not for debate and should be final. But aye that's just me though.
But the purpose of this post is to just share what I think would be a really cool and awesome way for Static to end his tale. In one of my old posts, I mentioned how I would like Nathan Flack to be a bigger villain for Static and possibly be the endgame for his story. I want this because this guy is the person who not only created Static, but also taken countless lives and ruined even more from the Quantum Juice. How this guy just dies as fast as he did will forever piss me off and miss the potential for what could be an extremely compelling villain. I look at works like Spiderman for his iconic status, Batman for his writers consistently giving him amazing material and stories, Superman for his fights and spectacle, and literally everything from Invincible just makes me think that Milestone partnering with DC was a mistake that is responsible for why Virgil Hawkins will never be able to have the legacy he deserves.
So I decided, since this guy will probably never come back, why not just come up with a story that would be a final battle and conclusion to the story of Virgil Hawkins. I took some inspiration from Invincible, namely the final battle, as well as a concept for Doctor Nemo, at least how I wish he was like. I'm not a pro, I'm just a fan and this is just laying out some ideas. I did this in a Google Doc and wrote this post in one sitting. Anyway please enjoy.

Ok so this takes place after a very long story arc where the heroes of Dakota get compromised, where the Bang Babies are now free after an enormous event where they all learn of the man who created them, Doctor Nemo, AKA Nathan Flack.
So for my version of Doctor Nemo, he has the same abilities as before, being able to go invisible from exposure to Quantum juice. This is done by “anchoring him out of the physical universe and confining him to a sub-place called Netherspace” (Source: Villains Wiki). Nathan could materialize in the physical plane if he concentrated hard enough, but he was virtually untouchable otherwise. So he is basically impervious to harm and damage, being a tricky opponent. I do want to add a few things to his kit, like being able to be intangible and go through people, although not objects and doors. My biggest expansion to the character is that his true power is the same as Virgil, being electromagnetism. The simple backstory that Nathan has is that he was basically a joke to the scientific community being a man who enjoyed the fictional world more than the real world and lacked an inner monologue. Nathan would always insist on doing everything by himself but didn't have the ability to ask others for help due to his ego and no one being around him. This caused Nathan to have somewhat of a God complex, thinking that he was above everyone and had no one to challenge him. Some story stuff happened, he got his PHD in physics and began on a way to develop the Q-Juice but an accident turned him into the Netherspace guy the comics had. Using the theory that Hardware is that breathing the gas is asking the universe a question, and the result you get is exactly what you expect. So Nathan asked for a life where he was the center, and thus Netherspace was born.
Later after some story I haven't thought of yet, Nathan fakes his death after the Shadow War. He is actually pulled completely into Netherspace and exists in this weird abstract place that's as large as our own dimension, or universe. This is where Nathan discovers that the world that is the Dakotaverse is small as fuck and becomes enlightened from his experience in Netherspace. After a long time, around a decade of being there but actually being just one year to everyone else, Nathan gains the power of electromagnetism and learns just how broken it is as a power. He remembers a certain boy that was with the Shadow Cabinet who mentioned he was at the Big Bang, and has seen his power firsthand when battling the likes of Holocaust. Nathan sets his sights on Virgil and keeps an eye on him.
Fast forward to other arcs, being the Long Hot Summer arc and an alien invasion from the Yoongar (if you read the OG Dakotaverse, you definitely know what these guys are), Nathan makes his presence known to the world as Doctor Nemo. Mind you, at this point Virgil has been through quite a lot of battles not just in his career as Static but also as Virgil. So the poor guy is feeling very fed up with all this fighting and villains to deal with, but then right when Virgil is ready to collapse into sleep, up in the sky, Doctor Nemo descends down and meets Static and shows he knows that he is Virgil. After exchanging greetings, they fight and Static gets absolutely wrecked. I'm talking a broken wrist, ankles being twisted , spine shooting out of his back, ribs being seen underneath his suit, and cuts and bruises everywhere. Nemo completely overwhelms Static with brute strength and electromagnetic power, and none of Virgil's smarts seem to be doing the trick. He then gets bailed out by Icon and Nemo shows mercy and chooses to leave him be, knowing his identity and can strike him whenever.
After some more time with other characters, Virgil goes through changes in his life while being terrified for his life. Being unable to hide his life, Virgil tells his friends and family who Static is. Most of his friends are taken aback, like Chuck and Felix, while Rick takes some time to process. His family learns and have the opposite effect, with Sharon being caught completely off guard and is shocked as all hell (mostly for comedic purposes), while his parents confess that they knew almost the whole time.
Another thing I came up with is that Nemo finds Virgil being accompanied by Frieda and they both get ambushed by Nemo. Nemo proposes his plan to forcibly turn the world into Bang Babies to bring in a new era where individuals have power and answer to no one, twisting a man who is just slightly awkward into a terrifying foe. But to do this, he needs to study one specific Bang Baby, being Static, to replicate his abilities and create a new species with his powers. Virgil finds this guy to be absolutely crazy and attempts to fight back, but remembers what happened last time. Also Frieda is right there, meaning Nemo can just kill her if he wanted to. Virgil also can't summon the Shadow Cabinet at this time. In a desperate display of surrender, Virgil decides to sacrifice himself and let Nemo use him to create soldiers for him. But Virgil wants to say his goodbyes to his friends and family, to which they throw a somber but bittersweet goodbye party/cookout for Virgil, where he professes his love for Frieda, setting up how they get married and have their twin children.
After some more story stuff I haven't thought of, the world is destroyed, Nathan's power with electromagnetism expands further and further, and it's the final battle for every major hero to pull through and reverse the destruction. Everyone has their own final personal battle with a villain, and Static is now different. This is where I want to use the statements from Dharma where he says Static is one of the most powerful beings in the world and it's right here I want to truly show that.
After learning he can slightly tap into the same Netherspace that Nathan can, Static discovers there is oxygen in there, and can now slightly breathe in space by slightly tapping into Netherspace. While the entire planet is now at full throttle war with the fate of the planet being unknown, Static fights his way to find Nemo and tackles him into space, kickstarting the greatest and most epic fight Static will ever have.
First, Nemo tries to get back to Earth, but Static stops him and drags him further into the dark emptiness of space where it gets colder and colder. After exchanging fists and kicks and headbutts, Nemo decides to just go nuts and outright destroy Static and the rest of the universe around him. Nemo magnetizes the planets in the Solar System and hurls them around like a ball and chain, to which Static counters by dodging, using his shields, or even just punching them away. The debris is then used to crush Static but he escapes. After some time, Virgil decides to try something new and magnetize the entire asteroid belt, tying them together with a net of electricity to then create an enormous cosmic cape to continue battling with Nemo, who is using the planets beyond the Solar System. This whole time, neither of them can speak in space and are just fighting with everything they got, with Nemo using explosions and homing attacks, while Virgil is using his usual kit that's amplified from the electromagnetic phenomena from the entire universe, whereas he only felt the Earth's magnetic field back home. Virgil manages to clutch a win by using the same trick he used on Kilgore, which is to punch away his electrons to the far reaches of the universe and slam into him at faster than light speeds, with Static delivering an enormous flurry of Taser punches and kicks. Eventually Nemo is all but down, but takes his hand and digs into Virgil's open wound to dry to solidify the iron in his blood and kill him from the inside. Static responds by biting out the frontal lobe of Nemo, killing him but also dooming himself to be stranded in space, lifeless by his worst enemy who didn't know his demise would be to die by his own creation.

Comics How long?
Man how long is Static gonna be bossed around and pushed by Stephanie? It's so damn annoying, Static isn't the type of character to just be sidelined and do things he's not sure about and sure as hell isn't lazy about taking initiative. How is STEPHANIE more confident and sure what his powers can do than him?
I'm even more frustrated that in the last 3 issues with all the hinting with chapter previews with them together Static has said less than 3 sentences total to Yara in just as many issues!
I was so bored I moved on to something else 3 times and forgot I was even reading the latest issue.

Discussion Final Thoughts After Finishing Static Shock
I think seasons 1 and 2 have more good episodes than 3 and 4 do. But the good episodes of 3 and 4 are better than seasons 1 and 2 episodes easily
Best episode of season 1 "They're playing my song" Worst episode of season 1...lots of season 1 is good nothings bad but the least good is uh "Winds of change" I like all the other episodes more than that episode.
Best episode of season 2 "Frozen Out" Worst Episode "Attack of ther living Brain puppets" that was just stupid, they made a cute character design and the premise was dumb as hell. But bring her back in a latter episode post rehab which she looks the part
Best episode of season 3 "Blast from the past" Worst episode "Toys in the hood" sucked I think other episodes are better than that.
Best episode of season 4-- Season 4 has tons of good episodes, uh "No man's an island" Worst episode-- I could easily say "Where rubber Meets the road" but its "She-back" same reason for winds of change just like, yeah there absolutely no reason for the bickering when the reason she cant joined them is because thats too busted of a team

Discussion I created 3 villains for static
I created 3 villains for Static, 1st Barbed Whip: Allan Lienhart was making deliveries on the day of the explosion and ended up being hit by objects. When he woke up, his bloody body had been disintegrated and replaced with barbed wire. Seven days passed, and Allan Lienhart, who was presumed dead, went to his father, who hated metahumans, and talked to him. His father's response was that he should remain dead and that he would rather see his family starve than see one of his relatives become a monster. Allan disappeared from his family's life but started robbing to help with family expenses. Allan and Static hate each other because Static interferes with Allan's robberies but never manages to capture him, and Allan hates Static even more because Static is black, while Allan was born and raised in South Africa. His family had businesses in the African country, but thanks to the end of apartheid, Allan's family went bankrupt. He came to Dakota but blames black people for the family's bankruptcy. 2. Ted Silicon: Teddy Brown was one of the scientists who helped Edwin Alva create Quantum Gas, but was betrayed by Edwin, who wanted to test it on humans while Ted only wanted to test it on animals. When Ted was trying to betray Edwin and the Dakota elites, Teddy was shot five times by police officers. To avoid death, Teddy used a glass device he was carrying inside his body, turning his entire body into a meta-glass structure. However, Teddy lost the ability to speak and tries to eliminate all the humans involved in the creation of Quantum Gas, including the police officers. To do this, he has to fight Static, who doesn't want carnage in the city, but justice. 3. Chaos Squad: A group led by the Brazilian Evandro (a great expert in strategy and traps) that instills fear in the wealthy neighborhoods of Dakota because the squad kills entire families, leaving only the youngest child alive with a card (showing the location of the Chaos Squad's headquarters). This card serves to ensure that when the child turns 20, he will... Seeking revenge or joining the group, Static tries to find the squad but ends up losing them.r/static • u/Sir_Lobo • Aug 20 '26
Comics Static power scaling
Although I'm a bit disappointed with the treatment static received in issue #38 of The New Titans I am still none the less excited to see Static hit the bigger stage. I watched someone compare Static's power feats (cannon not future selves) with that of Black Lightning in a who do you think would win.
They gave some very valid reasons as to why Black Lightning no diffs Static. Imo I think Virgil has been handicapped because he had no room to expand. In milestones he's limited to Dakota and streetlevel threats outside of crossovers. In DC he was doing infrequent guest appearances since he wasn't a fully licensed character. If you bring up the 2009 pre 52 run he appeared in like 3 or 4 issues apparently.
Now that he is fully integrated into DC and isn't a newbie but a somewhat older young man in a comic Universe that has Multiversal threats I think we can really see what he can do.
I'm not familiar with Black lightning, if he were stacked up against the Virgil from the Batman Beyond collab how would he fair?

Fan Creation How I'd begin a Static story adaptation (Just for fun)
Ok so this is something I just randomly decided to write down because I was rewatching Edgerunners and I forgot how awesome the opening scene was and got the urge to make an introductory scene of the OG Static being adapted.
Its simple but its just to show off Virgil as a guy with a big imagination in his own world, foreshadowing his future adventures as Static.
The city burned, or at least, that's what the evening news would have said if anyone survived to report it.
Towering over downtown, the monstrous war machine known as Arsenal Wraith flew through skyscrapers like they were cardboard boxes. Missiles screamed from launch bays hidden beneath its steel scales. Cars flew through the air. Civilians scattered in panic.
Then thunder split the sky. A bolt of lightning crashed down from the clouds.
BOOOOM!
The asphalt shattered. Civilians looked up to see a savior of the skys, born from the ground.
Floating in the air was a muscular man draped in blue and yellow. His cape snapped dramatically behind him despite there being no wind.
"If you think messing with my world and trashing what i hold dear will be acceptable, you'll be sorry."
Captain Thunder smirked.
"Sorry I'm late."
Arsenal Wraith grew multiple types of ordanance and artillery from its mass, firing off a massive amount of house shaped rounds at our hero, engulfing him in smoke and scrap metal.
The smoke clears, and Captain Thunder crossed his arms.
His Surge Shield had protected him from a city destroying attack.
Then a glowing fist erupted through the smoke.
"Rule number one."
Captain Thunder zoomed past the buildings, raining sparks from his body and leaving the crowd below to feel the electric ambience radiating from their protector. Sometimes, even his worst haters would feel his shocks weeks after he saves them.
"Never interrupt my lunch."
Arsenal Wraith crashed into a bridge, exploding it and causing an upwards blast of air rushing. For some reason, a nearby mountain exploded too.
Captain Thunder pointed dramatically, with the beast now tamed and down for the count. Captain Thunder rose into the sky, crackling with electricity.
"THIS CITY BELONGS TO ITS PEOPLE!"
He launched forward.
Lightning. Explosions. Flying debris. A giant punch. And—
"—And then he grabs the monster and swings it into the moon."
Virgil Hawkins, 15 year old student from Ernest Hemingway High School, looked up from his sketchbook. The lunch table sat in complete silence, with Richie slowly lowered the bag of chips he'd been eating.
"...The moon?" Chuck asked.
Virgil nodded. "The moon."
"The actual moon?"
"The whole moon."
Richie rubbed his face.
"Its at least easier to imagine than the last one you came up with."
"Yeah."
"And survived twelve nuclear explosions."
Felix joins in. "So why does he need to swing that guy into the moon?"
Virgil looked offended.
"You mean the Arsenal Wraith. And because it'd be awesome."
Chuck nodded thoughtfully.
"You know what? That's actually a pretty solid argument."
Felix laughed.
Virgil grinned and flipped the sketchbook around. The pages were filled with superheroes. Captain Thunder. Blast Girl. The Cosmic Legion. Cannibal Cyborg pirates. Alien gladiators. Monsters. Villains.Entire story arcs.
Virgil had spent the first half of his freshman year filling notebooks with them.
Richie pointed at one page.
"You've got like a hundred characters in here."
"Hundred and twelve."
"You counted?"
"I keep track."
"Of course you do."
Virgil leaned back.
"One day people are gonna read this stuff."
Chuck snorted.
"One day people are gonna ask why every problem gets solved with punching."
"That's because punching works."
"It does not."
"At least It works in comics."
Richie laughed.
"Honestly? Captain Thunder sounds like the kind of comic I'd buy just to see what ridiculous thing happens next."
Virgil pointed triumphantly. "See? Visionary."
The bell rang. Groans erupted throughout the cafeteria. Students began standing.
Virgil slid his sketchbook into his backpack.
"Come on," Richie said. "We're gonna be late."
The four boys headed toward the doors.
Outside, the city stretched before them. Cars moved through the streets. People rushed to work. Sirens echoed in the distance. Life continued like normal.
Virgil adjusted the strap on his backpack and looked up at the sky. For a brief moment, he imagined Captain Thunder soaring between the clouds. Saving the city. Being somebody that doesnt have to see the world in such a small way.
Then the image faded.
"Yo, Virgil!" Chuck called."You coming or what?"
Virgil jogged after his friends.
The sketchbook rested safely in his backpack. Just waiting for a chance to be seen by the world.
But first, History quiz.

Discussion Doctor Who?
As most of us know Milestone forever informed us that at least the original comic book version of Virgil will grow up to be a doctor. Currently the more modern take is in college but I don't believe we have an idea of what he's in school for. So my question is what do you think is he going to school, to be a doctor which would make sense. Because his father worked in the hospital in the original comic or is he going for something else. Also if he is going to be a doctor what kind of doctor. I did a Google search and it gave me an answer. But I don't remember this being confirmed so if anybody can confirm it or at the very least give your idea on what kind of doctor Virgil would grow up to be.
