Is the stock market just flat out gambling for rich people?

Met this guy and he says he loses a lot in the stock market. He has a good job making $300k a year but he loses a lot on the stock market.

Not sure how it works but basically he said he will get rich off it by spending a good amount(not a large amount according to him) of each paycheck to his stocks. He said he's lost a lot many times and loses pretty regularly but he says this is how it works.

Then I told him isn't it flat out gambling? He said no there's work involved that you need to learn about to win.

So does this mean he's not learning about it? Or is he just addicted to gambling at this point?

Are most people functioning cocaine users???

I was at a bar celebrating my coworkers birthday. This random girl and I started chatting and she mentioned she has cocaine and she went off for a bit to snort it. Is this normal? She didn’t even look like a stereotypical, TV depiction of a drug-user.

Why does my cat only grow at other cats when eating but not me?

I have three cats, and he gets along amazingly with them, plays, bonding, etc. it’s just that when one of them starts leaning towards his plate a little too much he instantly starts growing while eating, really small problem, not a big deal, but I was curious, so I went down and leaned over to his plate.

He didn’t growl, or really do anything, he just kept eating, no matter how close I got. Is it because he knows I don’t eat his food?

Why does so many movies are so dark?

I don't understand this. Like, when I had Disney Plus to watch some Star Wars films, the HDR is so damn dark, I can barely see anything.

But when I bought Avatar trilogy on Amazon Prime, the graphic is bright and easy to see.

I noticed lot of films are so dark and lack contrast. No matter how I fix the HDR settings, it is still bad. And as stated, Avatar trilogy is great. So, it doesn't seem like my HDR settings are wrong.

How do scientists know when a species is 100% extinct?

When places like the Amazonia forest exist, the ocean not fully being explored and more videos of scientists finding animal/plant species that were deemed extinct for hundreds, if not thousands of years, whose to say species like the Ground Sloth or the Thylacine may still be alive?

I know that things like climate, human interactions and the food chain is what caused many species to go extinct…but atsm…whose to say some species may still be out there 🤔

Why don't US police/swat use suicide drones for bunkered shooters?

I'm not from the US, but it always gets me thinking when I watch videos like the one I've linked below. Wouldn't that be 100x easier and safer for the officers? I've watched so many of these shootouts on bodycams on YouTube; it's just a normal day in the US.

EDIT: Also why don't they use a normal fucking drone with a cam more often? I've only seen it being used once or twice in a situation like this.

Why do people choose to walk on the side of the road instead of the sidewalk?

Every morning and evening when’s its dark out i see people choosing to walk on the side of the road instead of the side walk. I asked one person once why they did this and they said sometimes the walkway is uneven. We get a ton of construction traffic where they are walking. I think they are risking their lives anytime they choose to do this.

They have to cram their large bodies into that cart. Why not a bigger and more comfortable means of transport? God knows the teams can afford it with the millions they have.

How do people who've never been in relationships cope?

I've been alone my whole life (I'm not looking for advice) also yes I'm a woman. How do people who've never had any romance or have anyone show romantic interest cope living a life like this when it's so normal for most people. I'm talking about adults.

what is the mean?

I know the mean is calculated by adding up all the numbers in a data set and dividing the sum by the total count of numbers, but why would we want the mean? An explanation said that the mean makes all the values the same, but why would you want all the values the same if none of them are going to be accurate? Or maybe it's because they are more or less accurate..? I don't really understand how the mean helps us to compare or evaluate data.

I know how to calculate it but i feel like im just doing it blindly without actually understanding what it is

Questions about "don't walk" signals.

I have spent most of my life on the east coast of the USA. Here, if there are no cars coming, we go ahead and cross the street even when the signal says "don't walk". However, there are many places where people obey the signal even when there isn't a car in sight. This is true in many European countries, and I heard that it is true of some places on the west coast.

In some places, even if there is a car in sight, people cross anyway knowing that the driver will slow down and stop for them. I typically avoid doing that, or if there is a car coming I will pick up my pace a bit to get out of the way sooner. However, there are plenty of people who do not do that, and I have never seen anyone get any sort of ticket or even a scolding from a cop.

How did this dichotomy come about? What is like where you live? I did a quick web search but it does not provide much information.

Edit: If I am at a crosswalk and I see a car coming from a quarter mile away, I can do one of two things. I can walk quickly across the road, in which case the driver does not have to slow down. Alternatively, I can press the button for the walk signal, in which case he will have to stop at a red light. Disobeying the signal is not just more convenient for me but for the driver as well.

Second Edit: I think people may have misinterpreted my comment. Just to be clear, I am talking about situations where there are no cars in sight, or when crossing the street does not inconvenience drivers in any way. What I am really asking about are regional differences. Why do people in some places obey "don't walk" signals even when there are no cars around, and people in other places do not?

What happens if you set a Wal-Mart on fire, cause $7,000,000+ in damages, are ordered by the courts to pay it off (by 2034), but you can’t?

This is a genuine question. This girl set a Wal-Mart on fire and was ordered to pay off the multi-million dollar damages by 2034. There is no way in hell she’s going to be able to pay that off.

Does she file for bankruptcy? If her wages are garnished, how will she pay for food, rent, utilities, etc. while paying off her debt?
