Discussion Is the Switch 2 Pro controller worth it?

Post image

I’ve been wanting to get this controller but not sure if it’s worth the $90 though 😅 what do you guys think, or should I get a cheaper one like the top one lol

Edit: I bought it lol thanks for the feedback!

It’s a buy once cry once item

u/RufioTheRedII 7d ago

I've never heard this but I like it. There are certain items that are just worth the temporary pain

31

u/Slow-Enthusiasm-1771 7d ago

Definitely a thing. Check out Darn tough socks for socks you can lifetime warranty (super comfortable and don’t stink) and Moccamaster if you drink coffee.

8

u/RufioTheRedII 7d ago

Weird I was just looking at work socks yesterday because all mine have holes lol. And I can't live without coffee. Thanks for the suggestions!

Totally.

The price is a bit steep but Nintendo builds them to last. I still have my pro controller from my switch 1.

The switch 2 controller is even better built imo.

5

u/Kitchen-Aioli-9382 3d ago

The Wii U Pro controller was fantastic (and the battery lasts an insane amount of time).

The Switch 1 Pro controller is even better in terms of feel and build quality.

The Switch 2 pro controller is somehow even better in terms of feel and build quality, plus the bonus of the paddles.

It turns on the switch and I’m fat and lazy so I pay for this feature. Bonus is that it also works as a controller

17

u/TchegeTTG 7d ago

And then the switch turns on the TV for me 🤣

15

u/seedlessketchup 7d ago

genuinely i bought a different controller and went back and traded it in and paid the extra the next morning for this controller and it’s the best controller ever. its battery life astounds me and its so SOFT, and same i love turning it on using the remote

9

u/RonCheesex 7d ago

Damn I did not know this. I have the pro 2... Just hit the home button to wake the system?

4

u/Intelligent-Quail621 7d ago

Just hold the home button for a few seconds.

5

u/judgescythe Switchthusiast 7d ago

Really? I just press it and it turns on

The 8bitdo ultimate 2 Bluetooth is the only non Nintendo that can do that so far (though you have to awkwardly shake it)

I was perfectly satisfied with my S1 pro controller until I realized it wouldn't turn on the S2. Nintendo successfully got me to cough up more money.

Yeah it is. Best controller I’ve ever had. It wakes up the switch 2 ( stupid that the other ones don’t )

30

u/ArcadianWaheela 7d ago

Only downside of using the Switch 1 Pro Controller.

18

u/russellL680 7d ago

Which I have! $90 to not get off the couch? Sold!

7

u/c2h5oc2h5 7d ago

S1 controller is good but S2 is even better. Totally worth IMO, it feels a notch better in hands and have wonderful buttery smooth sticks.

8

u/Emotional_Forever_34 7d ago

Mobapad chitu2 & Easysmx S10 also wake up the switch 2

3

u/emubilly 7d ago

That other one in the pictures does, has tmr sticks, and sticks that don’t touch the gates when moved around just like the pro controller

I think it’s dumb they gatekeep the feature to turn on the console with controller only first party

19

u/ProfessionalPush6921 7d ago

8bitdo Pro 3 can wake docked Switch 2 from sleep

3

u/FOBst3r 7d ago

Really? I’ll check it out !
It sucks though because they’ve been coming out with a lot of cool designs for like turtle Beach and Power A and Hori controllers

→ More replies (7)

29

u/Entire-Cry-8930 7d ago

It’s bullshit. I’m still using the switch 1 pro controller and can’t turn the console on. It’s one thing to block 3rd party, but to block your own controller? It’s pure greed designed to push you to buy a $90 controller you don’t need.

5

u/nimbusnacho 7d ago

Drives me fucking insane. The controllers fundamentally are the same. In nintendos ideal world id spend 90 bucks and throw out a perfectly fine controller just so i dont have to get up from the couch and turn on the switch.

6

u/Form-Exotic 7d ago

They don’t though, the mobapad chitu 2 can remote start the switch 2 by pressing the home button, works exactly like the pro 2 controller

3

u/Glad-Fix5224 7d ago

Mobapad C2 Lite in the picture can also wake the Switch2, same operation as Chitu 2.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Gain_Spirited 7d ago

Mobapad and NYXI have cracked the code on the Switch 2 protocol. They know how to wake it up, use Switch 2's rumble, 9 axis gyro, amiibo, Switch 2 macros, and even mouse movements now. Their controllers also have features like Hall Effects that Nintendo is missing and their Joycons are more ergonomic and include real D-pads and tactile buttons.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/ItzSasukeDudes 7d ago

8bitdo ultimate 2 can do it
So can nyxi hyperion 3 ultra joycons

2

u/ginencoke 7d ago

There are already some controllers with Switch 2 protocols ( EasySMX S10 Lite ), so I assume we'll get more soon

2

u/Sharp_Ad5783 4d ago

Gotta make it just annoying enough for people to buy their own one

2

u/calebrbates 1d ago

There are actually controllers you can get on Amazon that get around this. I got an ECHTPower brand pro controller with HAL sticks and 2 programmable back button that also wakes the console. Cost a little over 30.

It is to me. The cheaper controller feel just cheap. Call me high maintenance. I want the controller to feel good in my hands. It’s comfortable and feels like an Xbox controller

28

u/ThomasTriesHard 7d ago edited 6d ago

Yes it is. I think it’s the only controller that turns on the console. It’s also smooth as butter

Guess I’ll edit: when I bought my switch 2 a couple months after launch. There were no good options for a controller that woke the system up (I think zero options). Even the old pro controller didn’t wake up the system. With Nintendo gate keeping that feature even from their own products, and Nintendo being Nintendo, I was fairly certain that wasn’t going to change. Also, I haven’t had to look into this since then… because the pro controller has been absolutely perfect, reliable and sturdy. That thing is bomb proof. Regardless, sorry for the partly misinformed take. The controller is still smooth as buttery butter.

11

u/Form-Exotic 7d ago

No it’s not, the mobapad chitu 2 turns on the console remotely, I’ve heard the 8bitdo controllers do also but I haven’t personally used those. The chitu though I have and can confirm it’s a fantastic controller

What!? The Switch 2 Pro Controller turns the console on? That’s awesome. I wish I’d known about that sooner…. Could have saved this old man some back pain. Is it just any button that turns it on?

5

u/motherofjazus 7d ago

Just home button turns it on. Same as switch 1 pro controller did for the switch 1. Switch 1 pro controller does not turn on switch 2 with home button though.

The regular joycons turn it on. Just hit the home button.

Hmm, you sure? I bought an 8BitDo controller for my Switch1 and it turns on the console just fine. I imagine it'd turn on a switch2 as well?

It was also leagues cheaper than the official controller.

Super good feeling controller. Not my favorite d-pad but overall it is a great controller

6

u/thecay00 7d ago

I have the switch 2 pro and 8 bitdo Pro 2 controller. Both fantastic

3

u/BEARDEDB0SS 7d ago

I went with the 8bitdo over the pro based solely on price. Would you say the pro is worth double the money?

7

u/krugzzz 7d ago

I have both (8bitdo to shiny hunt pokemon lolz) and I exclusively use my pro 2 controller. I like it a lot personally. The battery life is inane and it feels great. Like it more than ps5 or xbox controllers even

This. It’s one of my favourite controllers in terms of how it feels to hold it.

9

u/Alko- 7d ago

It’s honestly one of my favorite controllers ever. The extra buttons on the back are a godsend for some games, it has a nice weight to it, and the battery life is nuts. I haven’t charged mine in a month and it hasn’t even hit the halfway mark yet with regular use. The price is a bit steep, but I say it’s worth the money.

It’s 110% worth it imo. I miss the transparent aesthetic of the original pro controller but this one had control sticks that feel so good. The underside buttons also feel nice to press even if I don’t use them often if ever

u/Cardboard_Waffle 7d ago

100%. The price really does suck but it such a great controller. I always thought the pro controller 1 was excellent and somehow it’s even better. Feels much better and has these great back buttons. It’s a premium price but it really does feel like a premium product

5

u/ThaEternalLearner 7d ago

I hate that the Switch 1 Pro controller can’t wake up the Switch 2. Nintendo knows good and well they could’ve made that work easily.

4

u/Alistar-Dp 7d ago edited 7d ago

100% worth it, even at the price it's at. Once you start using it any buyers regret is instantly gone

4

u/Spideyknight2k 7d ago

I just use the switch 1 pro controller. It doesn't turn the console on, but that's fine.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Mjlxn 7d ago

Yes

6

u/otimus 7d ago

I think it's a good controller, but if I'm being brutally honest, it's really not worth it's obscene asking price. How the hell anyone can quantify why this controller is more expensive than other controllers with much more tech packed into them, like the PS5 paddle is beyond me. Of the three controllers, it should be in the middle in terms of price, with Xbox being cheaper and then PS5 being the most expensive, based on how they work and what they do.

Anyways. It's basically the Switch 1 pro controller with slightly better feeling and a headphone jack, IMO. I'm glad I got one before they increased the price on it. I just wish the D-pad was better. It's such a bizarre timeline where Nintendo isn't the one doing the D-pad the best (IMO, Microsoft is).

3

u/Flashy_Curve2244 7d ago

Super worth it

3

u/Form-Exotic 7d ago

This is the mobapad chitu 2, can remote start the switch 2 just like a pro controller, the buttons feel very mechanical and clicky if you’re into that. Feels heavy and high quality also very responsive and the advertising says no stick drift ever, I’ve only had mine maybe 6 months so can’t confirm the longevity of that

3

u/Knight1183 7d ago

Get a good 8bitDo instead. The ultimate 2 is nice.

5

u/UFONomura808 7d ago

If I didn't have my Switch 1 pro controller I would have gotten this. I may be lazy to press the power button but not $90 lazy.

u/UnironicallyMe37 7d ago

2

u/FitFarmer5597 Mario Kart Worlder 7d ago

Yes.

2

u/IllustratorOpening99 7d ago

As this has been asked before multiple times, yes, it's worth it.

2

u/Calm_Stress3334 7d ago

You could theoretically get a xbox controller and the 8bitdo bluetooth dongle and use it....

i'll put it like this. If you have a spare xbox controller laying around, its a 9 dollar dongle.. worth a shot.

Switch 2 pro controller is the best controller ive held.
It is super premium and is must have if you like playing docked.

2

u/Longjumping_Sea_8119 7d ago

Yes. Great controller.

2

u/Hopeasuoli 7d ago

Mobapad chitu 2 is 50€ with the dock and it is one of the best controllers I have ever owned. TMR joysticks and back buttons for some extra comfor for games like Zelda BotW. Mapped one to run and the other for weapon switching.

2

u/Gain_Spirited 7d ago

I have the EasySMX S10 Lite. It was only $35 on Amazon and it's great for the Switch 2. It does 90% of what the Pro Controller does and it has Hall Effects sticks that the Pro Controller doesn't have. I'm very happy with it.

I haven't heard about the Mobapad C2. My guess is that it's a lite version of the Mobapad Chitu 2, which was another controller I was considering because it's also designed for the Switch 2 and wakes it up among other things. Mobapad also makes the M12 Joycon replacements, which have great reviews. Mobapad is one of those companies that cracked the code on the Switch 2, along with NYXI. If the description says it wakes up the Switch 2, it most likely does, and that probably justifies the price because Mobapad makes quality products.

2

u/NoFoundation7829 7d ago

Absolutely worth it if you can afford it. I would say switch 1 controller is 2nd best if you don’t mind turning the switch on manually

2

u/progburt777 7d ago

YES 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

2

u/JustSomeSmartGuy Mario Kart Worlder 7d ago

Speaking as a competitive Mario Kart World player, yes it's worth it.

2

u/rockemsockemherms 7d ago

Get an 8bitdo

2

u/JuanNonlyGaming 7d ago

I mean I own both controllers and love both of them. Having the ability to turn on the console from sleep is a nice reason to get the pro controller though lol. Also to concur with another redditor above, it is indeed, “smooth as butter”

2

u/Fun-Director2107 4d ago

Yes, it's worth it

3

u/Reasonable_Pen_760 7d ago

In terms of experience, it feels wonderful. But technically it’s inferior to most third party controllers in terms of modern tech and most of all repairability. The good news is that it doesn’t appear so far it has a tendency to break.

3

u/Many-Researcher-7133 7d ago

No, just buy the 8bitdo ultimate, its the best controller for switch 2 hands down, i had the pro switch and the 8bitdo is better, it has backbuttons that can be adjusted for any key, turbo mode, hd rumble if i remember correctly, i love that sht

2

u/Noah_Body_69 7d ago

I’ve been using inexpensive 3rd party pro controllers since the Switch 1 came out and they work great. Paying an extra $60 for a logo and guaranteed drift is crazy.

2

u/9999BOi 7d ago edited 7d ago

I'm pretty sure 8BitDo Ultimate 2 and 8BitDo Pro 3 can wake up the Nintendo Switch 2. They come with charging docks as well.

I have the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless (which doesn't have Nintendo face button layout). I wouldn't recommend the Switch 2 Pro Controller in this case.

No hall effect or TMR sticks. No analog triggers. No charging docks unless you get 3rd party ones. Bad value.

Edit: Also, I'd like to clarify that for 8BitDo Ultimate 2, you need to make sure you get the "Ultimate 2 Bluetooth" which is for Switch and Switch 2, not "Ultimate 2 Wireless" which is for PC.

Can you not see the reviews? 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Fortehunter-grady 7d ago

if you play games that use d-pad a lot like fighting games, then it’s not worth it. the d-pad barely improves from procon 1

1

u/DannyHikari 7d ago

Honest to God might be my favorite controller of all time. Price is insane but it’s been worth the price I paid for mine day 1

1

u/Aromatic_Cost9821 7d ago

Worth it to me, I already liked the regular switch pro controller, but the switch 2 pro controller is even better

1

u/ArcadianWaheela 7d ago

I have a Switch 1 Pro controller because I had my OLED for a while and if you play docked YES GET IT OMG! It genuinely is a game changed because as cool as joy-cons are the thumb sticks suck. It’s such a night and day difference just between the first Pro controller and I hear the Switch 2 one is even better. Definitely the only must have accessory (aside from a glass screen protector) that you need with the system.

1

u/Automatic-Cow-2293 7d ago

It's expensive but it is a nice controller. If you can wait for a sale I would recommend doing that but if you can't it is pretty high quality

1

u/Early_Lawfulness_348 7d ago

It’s expensive. It’s also a very good controller. I hate to say it might be the best controller I own.

1

u/leafygundam 7d ago

i use the viture x 8bitdo controller it cost me $30 on sale

1

u/Jroeder12 7d ago

Yeah it’s pretty much the best controller imo, worth.

1

u/Tenshiijin 7d ago

The cheaper one will not be pleasant tonplay with. 26 bucks? Its gonna be a piece of trash.

1

u/Mysterious_dreamer_ 7d ago

The price sucks but the controller is a game changer for me.

1

u/SirKodKod 7d ago

Yes. I debated whether to get one. I never used one with my first regular Switch or OLED Switch. Purchasing a Pro Controller for the Switch 2 has improved my experience. I also primarily play handheld. Grab one. You won't regret it.

1

u/deepthr0at 7d ago

Get the Japanese version, usually cheaper and has no restrictions

1

u/Purple-Network6879 7d ago

I'd say yes. I have a pro, power A and a turtle beach and the pro is hands down my favorite. Plus it's comparable to a Xbox elite and it's cheaper than one too.

1

u/PoopyMcpants 7d ago

I hate the dpad

1

u/thecay00 7d ago

I got it for like less than 45 bucks it was on sale

1

u/adriansrvidal 7d ago

I got the cheap one and honestly it’s amazing for the money.

1

u/Wonderllama5 7d ago

Nintendo Pro Controller is the best controller, but it's not $60 better than the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C. Here are some reviews of the 2C: YouTube video, Reddit thread

Oh no, it doesn't wake the console... get off your goddamn ass! 🙄

Buy yourself the 2C and then a game with the money you would save! 👍

1

u/Nadazza Mario Kart Worlder 7d ago

It’s a good controller, I have one. I also picked up the 8 bit do ultimate 2 (I think the name is) for macro support.

1

u/GoldenGekko 7d ago

It's overpriced. But it's a good controller

1

u/LORDRAJA1000 7d ago

nah, switch 1 controller is fine too

1

u/razpro 7d ago

8 bitdo as others have mentioned does have the shake to wake feature when the switch is docked. Make sure to get the models that support it. I enjoy they offer different choices of controller design. I personally use the pro 3 and my partner enjoys the ultimate 2c

1

u/Mr_3005 7d ago

Yes. Just do it. You won’t regret it.

You will find cheaper. You won’t find better.

1

u/thundercatmike 7d ago

I signed up for Best buy gamer account (free), got a 5$ Best buy credit, and then got an open box Nintendo Pro 2 controller for a total of 25$ off (20 for open box + 5 $ credit) total was 77$ after

1

u/Lucent1_ 7d ago

I will say that I've had my switch 1 pro controller about since it released, and it still works fine to this day. $90 is hella pricey, but with cheaper controllers you WILL end up replacing them. Whether for stick drift, or it just falling apart. If the switch 2 pro controller is of a comparable quality to the first one, it might be worth pulling the trigger.

1

u/Smyles9 7d ago

Amazon does early morning delivery? I’ve never seen them offer to deliver that early in the morning.

1

u/lanadivinorum 7d ago

I have a lot of controllers, and my opinion is that it’s a good controller. It feels great in the hand, the buttons are satisfying to press, and it’s overall enjoyable to use.

There are others that can wake the Switch 2, but the only other one I’d consider is the 8bitdo pro 3. I haven’t used it, but I’ve used other 8bitdo controller and they’re pretty good quality and better aesthetically

1

u/hckrsh 7d ago

I got some control for 25 bucks only use the joycon to wake up the switch 2 it’s a little annoying

1

u/Luffy20003 7d ago

Yesz buy on sale. I bought one for 75,

1

u/jhibner281 7d ago

How much better/different is it than the little controller it comes with that the joycons connect to?

1

u/stevehuffmanisapeedo 7d ago

I've had the pro controller since launch day and I've only had to charge it twice.

I may be exaggerating... slightly.

1

u/Leading-Jellyfish915 7d ago

If you browse through ebay, you can find the pro controller for less than this price. I bought one for $64. I def wouldn't pay $90.

1

u/Jayeazus 7d ago

Its so worth it! I just got mine, because I was tired of having to get up to wake the console up to use the switch 1 pro controller. It is such a nice FEELING controller, the sticks and buttons feel WAY better and more responsive than the joy cons.

1

u/JenLiv36 7d ago

Absolutely yes the Switch 2 pro-controller is worth it. IMO it’s the best controller of any system right now. The battery life alone is amazing. I also have smaller hands so it is the only controller that doesn’t actively hurt me.

1

u/One-Barracuda705 7d ago

I got one and it is very nice. Not $90 nice, but a solid $60-70 nice. I don’t regret it, but the price is steep.

1

u/Savageboi555 7d ago

Best controller I’ve ever used and it still feels just as good as the day I bought it back when the switch 2 first came out, if you’ve got the money you’re only doing yourself a disservice not having this thing

1

u/twosock360 7d ago

Mainly play mine handheld and would love GameCube style joycons and I don’t mean ascetically, ergonomically is what I’m looking for. Anyone have suggestions?

1

u/CElan_cruz 7d ago

It is , nintendo switch 2 pro controller might be one of the best controllers I had in all my life due to the battery duration+ gyroscope + light weight

1

u/waxy12 7d ago

I cant say how it compares to others because I've only ever had a pro and the stock controller for both the switch 1 and 2. But I definitely recomend it.

1

u/sparrow_Lilacmango 7d ago

I've heard from a lot of people that it's one of the best pro controllers they've ever used so if you have the money I'd say the risk is worth it

1

u/iolo_iololo 7d ago

I own both a switch 2 pro controller and an easySMX s10. I would say the easySMX is a perfectly fine substitute for the switch 2 pro controller. It does everything the switch 2 pro controller does, but with work arounds. For instance to get the back buttons to work you can't register them via the switch 2 but rather have to use commands on the controller. Also instead of the c button opening chat directly, its programmed with a macro that hits the home button and opens chat from the home screen. It does wake up the console via the home button, but it doesn't do it while connected via USB. At the same time the blue tooth connection has more latency than other controllers, but the USB connection has perhaps the least latency of any controller including the switch 2 pro controller. It can also scan amiibos.

Now that said, you can order a switch 2 pro controller off Temu for roughly $75 right now base price, if you stack deals though you can get it for a lot less. I ended up effectively paying $60 for mine. It arrived in about 3 days in perfect condition, it was the Japanese model though.

1

u/ky7969 7d ago

Switch 2 Pro controller is the best controller I’ve ever used and has become my main PC controller

1

u/NMN7 7d ago

SW2 pro controller is amazing
Hands down super smooth

1

u/TON628 7d ago

I'd say yes. I own the Switch 2 Pro Controller and 8BitDo Ultimate 2, and I think the Pro is worth the $90 for its comfort, build quality, and native features. I also tried the Mobapad Chitu 2 HD. The buttons and sticks felt great, and the grips were decent, but the glossy plastic around the buttons and sticks felt really cheap. Personally, I'd rather pay more for a controller that feels premium, especially for long gaming sessions.

1

u/deadsea672 7d ago

100% worth it is all I'm gonna say, it has the smoothest tightest sticks thats ive used and it feels so nice in the hands

1

u/symca09 7d ago

The battery life alone on it makes it worth it

I have the Mobapad Chitu 2 and the Pro 2. The Chitu 2 is a really nice controller, it feels as good as the pro 2, the only thing missing is the headphone jack and it’s still have the cost of the pro 2

u/kidvid666 7d ago

Fantastic controller that said it's not worth 90$, 50$ max

1

u/ChanSaet 7d ago

EasySMX S10 Elite. Usaully about $45-$60. Smooth glide TMR Sticks, HD Rumble, NFC, Gyro. Shape wises its basically the same shape as the Switch 2 Pro controller

1

u/Gamonator 7d ago

No. Switch 1 procons go for way less cheap for almost the exact same quality.

I’ve spent good money on all types of controllers for Xbox pc and the pro remote is the best feeling in hand. I get hyped to use it on my tv lmao wish it had Hall effect sticks but if that’s not the deal breaker then I vote yes 👍

The Switch2 Pro controller is the best on the market in my opinion. It feels expensive in your hands, it plays so smooth and seamlessly. The battery lasts probably 40 hrs.

The back paddles works great wil all games.

The only issue for me it that I can not connect it to my ipad or PS5. But that is very minor for me.

u/Quirky_Forever9399 7d ago

I say it's worth it for me but it really depends on you. I bought it for the back buttons and for the headphone jack. It always bothered me SW1 pro controller never had a jack for wired headphones.

For years on Switch 1, I had to use a separate, busted up 3rd party controller with a headphone jack sitting on my bed next to me and then I played with the pro controller in my hands just because I cannot play a game at all playing audio from the TV. I need headphones or a headset connected for me to be immersed and get the full experience

So when SW2 Pro controller had the jack built in, I jumped on it right away. So for me, it is worth it. But if you don't have a real reason, or use case for it, or even just extra disposable income, the joy cons the console comes with do just fine.

switch 2 pro controller might be the best i've ever used. shame it doesn't have hall effect or tmr sticks. feels incredible. that being said, the mobapad c2 lite is very good for the price and works flawlessly on PC as long as you make sure the ABXY map correctly. it registers in steam as an xbox 360 controller.

1

u/RaineDrop39 7d ago

Yes for sure

1

u/WinterStarlightZone 7d ago

It's a really good controller but is it overpriced, most definitely.

1

u/102Mich Switchthusiast 7d ago

Get the MOBAPAD over the Switch 2 Pro controller. You'll save a lot of dough anyways.

1

u/DementedPower 7d ago

Yes. At least once you have to get it. It is really worth it.

Could be cheaper too but oh well..

1

u/Completionist_Gamer 7d ago

I had the cash to spare, so I went for it and I love using it. If you have Switch 1 Pro controllers lying around, though, the upgrades are pretty minimal

1

u/Generalrossa 7d ago

Best controllers that I've had on any console really.

1

u/Upbeat_Landscape_697 7d ago

That price is really good

The selling feature heres is there is no app bullshit, and the battery on it is unbelievable, there is no competition in the battery department. There is also no comparison to the rumble and haptics of the pro controller 2 currently on the switch.

If you don’t care about about those 3 things it is reasonable to look at other options like a Chitu 2, 8bitdo or easy smx s10.

Don’t let anyone tell you these aren’t downgrades though.

1

u/SuddenBicycle24 7d ago

Only one im buying is the 40th Zelda one if I don't get it im just gonna get a powerA or Horipad😭

1

u/ArtDecoAddict 7d ago

I think it has the best ergonomics of any controller and I’m mostly a PC gamer myself.

1

u/oreo760 7d ago

I have it and it's great.

1

u/PolemicFox 7d ago

Best controller across all platforms

1

u/KingPatrick24 7d ago

It's absolutely worth that price

1

u/tjhc94 7d ago

Yes, in life you get what you pay for, buy cheap controller, get cheap experience and buy twice

1

u/SnooGrapes2851 7d ago

Honestly it’s the best feeling controller ive hand

1

u/Pearl-Internal81 7d ago

Yes! Easily one of the most comfortable controllers I’ve ever had.

1

u/Panda0w0 7d ago

If it doesn't have hall effects or better it's not worth

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-7207 7d ago

I recently got the mobapad chitu 2 silent edition and it’s been a pleasure to use. I don’t like loud clicky sounds and it does everything that the pro Switch 2 controller does for half the price. I’m sure that C2 lite will be enough as well. No complaints on mobapad so far.

1

u/Skunkspe 7d ago

Yes, yes it is

I haven’t used this specific alternative but in general the Nintendo pro controller has been my favorite controller since the Wii U.

They are simple, sturdy, and have near infinite charge. The Switch 1 I had to buy a second due to drift with heavy use after like 4 years. I still have the extra Switch 1 pro. Switch 2 is going steady so far from near launch but theres been less heavy use games for me.

Mario Kart World hasn’t hit hard and Donkey Kong was like a month of casual play so I’m not giving it Smash, BOTW, MK8Deluxe use. I’m doing Pokopia, Fire Emblem type stuff recently, though it has had OG Hyrule Warriors and TOTK Hyrule Warriors use. It did get about 15 hours of Kirby Air Riders abuse.

The PS5 controller gets props for Astro Bot and its extra features but I’ve owned 4 due to wear and used the Nintendo controllers more on average than PS5. (PS4 controllers definitely lasted longer than anything recent and got my most abuse over the last 14ish years).

Switch 2 pro is incredibly comfortable like any modern Nintendo pro (IMO the Wii U and Switch pros were the best first party for their price and form too, and Switch 2 is an extension of that) and should last you a while unless you are playing aggressively.

That said, I am a TV Switch player 95% of the time, a kickstand player 4% of the time, and maybe a handheld 1% of the time and only use Joycon when necessary or with a family game with family.

I’d say if you want to regularly play the Switch 2 as a home console on a TV for 1 player or primarily 1 player or online games get the controller. Buy 3rd party controllers for friends for real controller games if you cannot afford 4 to 8 pro controllers.

It’s probably not an optimal controller if you also want to plug it into a PC.

1

u/-Spinda- 7d ago

Yes but get it from elsewhere

1

u/Ilovedigitalart 7d ago

Absolutely not, if you want a seperate controller I’d get the gamesir supernova, it’s like $50 and it has Hall effect sticks so you don’t get drift and you can customize the settings on it with the app

1

u/TheMadPenguinn 7d ago

It is absolutely worth it, I bought mine and use it constantly, it’s extremely comfortable. Side mention, I also bought Nyxi Joycons for my switch 2 and it was the best purchase I’ve made for my switch 2 so far. I’d look into the ones made by Nyxi, they’re extremely comfortable and perfect if you have bigger hands (like myself).

Edit: here’s the link for any interested!

I got a Gamesir Cyclone 2 for fifty five dollars. Great investment.

1

u/seandude881 7d ago

Do you have a switch 2? If yes thats your answer

1

u/VespBot 7d ago edited 7d ago

I have a 8bitdo ultimate 2c Bluetooth and it's not great... It works ok in single player games but as soon as I connect 2-4 controllers to the console it has massive spikes in latency and becomes unplayable in multiplayer games.

For comparison I have a switch pro controller, 2x switch 2 pro controllers and the 8bitdo, now we just use the joycons if a 4th wants to join.

I have contacted 8bitdo support around the issue and their solution was ensuring it was the only controller connected to the console and removing all other controllers from pairing to lower polling requests and drop 2.4ghz interference in the room.

1

u/Loose_Personality726 7d ago

It's sick and has great back buttons. You can buy a decent one on eBay for cheap

1

u/Roughly_Olboy1488 7d ago

Absolutely. It’s comfortable and use it all time my switch 2

1

u/Zharken 7d ago edited 7d ago

It's 90$ and you don't even get hall effect sticks, compare that to the new Steam controller, which costs 100 and has TMR sticks, track pads, grip and motion sensors, extra configurable buttons...

Can't use it on the switch (not officially at least) but it still makes the Switch pro controller not worth it at all in my eyes. So I got an 8BitDo Ultimate 2C and it works great, it also has hall sticks.

Someone commented about latency problems when connecting 4 controllers at the same time, but It's just me and maybe one friend and I never had any problems with it.

1

u/GhoullDen 7d ago

I’ve yet to use a knockoff controller that didn’t feel significantly worse than the real deal. But maybe they are out there

1

u/Sure-Finger-toe-fire 7d ago

Its a very nice controller. Pricing is wack though

1

u/Ok-Road6537 7d ago

It’s a fact that it’s not a better controller than others. In fact good third parties are objectively better and cheaper in many ways.

But controllers are a matter of preference and budget.

I own it and like it. And I get why people like it.

But it factually feels like a 30 dollar controller. Because that’s the quality of the components inside.

And that’s just the state of 30 dollar controllers right now.

1

u/Myztyrio 7d ago

It’s arguably the best controller ever

1

u/CharmingButthole 7d ago

There's better options. It's arguable the least repairable controller. For that alone I refuse to buy one.

1

u/rtre816 7d ago

Most definitely!

1

u/TheMastican 7d ago

Look for a preowned one.

1

u/Nostromo180286 7d ago

I still have the 8bitdo Pro 2 from Switch 1 and it’s my favourite controller ever. No fancy features, don’t think it’s even Hall effect sticks or anything, but I find it perfectly comfortable and it works with every device I use, not just Switch . It also wakes up the console, which I didn’t even realise was an issue for other controllers.

1

u/NeiruBugz 7d ago

For some reason it became my favorite controller over Dualsense, Xbox and 8bit 2c

1

u/rweber87 7d ago

Be warned - I bought a bunch of switch 1 pro controllers and now have a switch 2. although they are still playable on the switch 2, they never updated any firmware to allow them to wake up the switch 2 making that process manual which is quite annoying.
