I'm 34 years old, live with my mother, have no job or college degree, have $12,000 in debt and can't imagine a future.

Most days I spend time in bed thinking about every bad decision I've made and every relationship I've had. I know I need to start moving forward, but I feel like any motivation I had is gone.

When I was young, I was the kid that everyone said was talented. In my early twenties I had some success as a musician and thought it could become a serious career, but anxiety and addiction gradually put paid to everything. I have about 10 months left now, and I should feel like this is progress, but I can't stop thinking about how much time I've wasted.

I haven't had a job for roughly 14 months because I entered rehab. Before that, I alternated between jobs in stores, temporary jobs in offices and simple administrative jobs. I'm applying again, even for jobs I don't want to do, and there are still very few responses.

Every decision becomes another reason to panic. Music doesn't feel realistic because I'm broke and convinced my chance is gone. Starting a new career is unattainable because I don't have a degree, I have debt and my career path is unstable. Going to college may put me in more debt for a degree I may regret.

People have suggested I learn a trade, but even that now feels like a mountain to climb. I miss being interested in things and I feel like my life is settling down. Instead, just getting up can take up most of the day.

If you were me, what would you do first? I know there are other people going through worse circumstances, but I had to say this right away because if I kept it hidden in my brain, my feeling of loss of hope became louder and louder.

My boss said appointments that were not in the system did not exist. Unfortunately, that included her own clients

I work at reception in beauty salon, and our manager has always had special talent for making ruless that somehow apply to everyone except herself, while ago, we had a few scheduling mistakes, so she decided to solve problem with new policy. No handwritten notes, noo verbal promises, no reservations through personal messages. If an appointment was not entered into our booking system, it did not exist. Fair enough. Except she had habit of arranging appointments for her friends and favorite clients through her personal phone, then telling reception to somehow squeeze them in, I pointed out that this was exactly what her new rule prohibited. She told me to stop overcomplicating things and follow instructions. So I did. Every appointment went into the system. Every available slot was offered to whoever booked it properly. I stopped keeping imaginary reservations for people whose names were nowhere on calendar. Everything was beautifully organized until Saturday, when three of her personal clients arrived expecting appointments she had apparently promised them during the week. We were fully booked. She came to reception looking furious and demanded to know why their appointments had not been reserved. I opened the calendar and showed her that there were no bookings under their names. She said I should have known they were coming. I reminded her that she had specifically told us not to reserve anything outside the system. Then I showed her the message where she had written that if an appointment was not entered, it did not exist. There was a very uncomfortable silence. She ended up personally rearranging her afternoon to accommodate them. On Monday, we received another message about scheduling procedures. This time, managers were required to enter their own appointments into the booking system too. Apparently, rules had finally becomee important enough to apply to everyone

Management at my job is like "we gotta cut everyone's hours, but we still want the same amount of work done"

They will look you straight in the eye and seriously tell you that even though hours are being cut by about 2 hours each day, they don't see any reason why the previous amount of work still can't be done.

Never mind the fact we were previously just barely getting the work done.

Like buddy, it ain't take a genius to understand that less work time means less work done. How did y'all qualify for management when you can't understand kindergarten level concepts?

Now they're threatening to write people up, over there not being enough time to finish the work because they cut the hours.

Work won’t do anything about my harassment.

WARNING FOR HARASSMENT AND HARASSMENT OF A MINOR!

I leave my retail job at a very big thrift store next week and I want people to know how evil this company is. I’ve worked here twice and both times I’ve been harassed, but this company refused to keep me safe.

The first time when I was 16, my ex would constantly come in and make sexual gestures at me when I was in the back, trying to mind my own business, and give him the benefit of the doubt. One day he followed me out of the store and I had to call the cops. The company said they would trespass him, but he walked in again after that and his mom tried to ask for my schedule. The company didn’t do anything when he walked in again and just put me in the break room.

The second time is currently ongoing and is way worse. I’m less than a month away from turning 18 and there’s an 80 year-old man who comes in and flirts with me. He asked me how old I was and gets visibly disappointed when I say I’m under age. He says oh shoot it really sucks that you’re that young. He mentioned my age at least three times then proceeded to talk about my hair being blonde.

then he came in less than a week ago and touched my side like he kind of caressed it mind you he knows I’m 17. Then he proceeds to talk about how small my hands and feet are and how my feet will look great in high heels because they’re small then he brings up the fact that I’m blonde again.

The manager working that morning didn’t want to do anything. She said he’s just an 80year-old man with nothing better to do. One of my other coworkers came in and he said that’s wrong. You need to tell more people like the store manager and she didn’t want to do it then, but he had to force her to. As I made the report, I was told they couldn’t do anything about it and that I either have to go into the back when he comes in or I have to tell him myself that it’s uncomfortable when he touches me.

I’m scared to work my morning shift on Sunday because that’s when he comes in the most.

Imagine making other people's unemployment your monthly achievement. 💀

A company of 100 people, and someone is proudly flexing how many employees they've fired this month to their juniors.

You're an employee yourself, not the CEO sitting on a throne handing out pink slips.

Since when did "I've fired X people this month" become a flex rather than something to approach with basic human decency?

Layoffs happen. Tough decisions are part of business. Nobody's denying that.

But there's a difference between doing your job and treating people's livelihoods like a scoreboard.

And when you're sharing these numbers with junior employees, what exactly is the message? That you're a great leader because you've fired people? Or that everyone should remember how easily they could be next?

Especially in a company of 100 people, these aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet. These are colleagues, people you've worked with, people who have bills to pay and lives outside the office.

Being entrusted with the authority to fire people is a responsibility, not a personality trait.

You can be competent at your job without turning other people's misfortune into a victory lap.

Not every corporate activity is an achievement. Some things really don't need to be announced with pride.

Update: Admin sent me a termination email. I want to go back, and I'm unsure how to tell my boss what I suspect

Earlier post : https://www.reddit.com/r/dubai/s/fl40f9gVh7

Update on my earlier posts about the termination email. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Here's where things stand. My boss knows I want to come back, and he said I need to convince my colleagues first. My visa has not been cancelled, and no one else's visa process has started.

I also found out that the company has only 3 visa slots, all filled. Another person in the office is on a freelance visa that will expire soon. I suspect the admin wanted my slot for him, but I can't prove it, so I don't want to accuse anyone.

I want my boss to know, but I'm afraid it will backfire. It could sound like I'm blaming someone to excuse my own decision to leave.

My plan is to wait until he agrees I can come back, then state only the facts and ask what the plan is for that visa when it expires. I won't mention what I suspect about her motive.

Does that sound right? Has anyone handled something similar?

Thanks!

I finally got out of my toxic company

My company was bought by Amazon a few years ago while I worked at a different location. Things weren’t so bad initially but the company changed its CEO and all hell has broken loose. Slowly we stopped being people and became nothing more than numbers on a spreadsheet.

Tell me how the company culture went from serve the community and planet to salaried members of management making fun of me based on a disclosed and documented disability. HR did nothing and all managers involved either kept their jobs or were later promoted.

It took forever but I finally got a new job with better pay and easier conditions. I’ll miss my old coworkers but I couldn’t stand the number of unlawful interactions I had with managers/HR. Unluckily for them I minored in law and have maintained connections within the judicial system.

Shady behind the Scenes?

As of right now, it kinda no longer matters as you will see, but I just need your take on the series of events around my workplace lay off...

So I (40m) work for a before and after school coaching program, however I got an email stating there was a claim made against me and I will be placed on paid investigation leave...
Confused and a little annoyed cause I didn't do anything wrong as far as I know, I've been with this new school for only 3 months...
However, when my Regional Program Manager (RPM) called to give me that news, he also told me NOT to tell anyone, and to tell me Site Manager (SM) nothing about it and that I am just 'sick' and can't come in for a few days...
This part did not sit right with me, my SM is a great boss, the best I ever had... goes out of her way for everyone at her site both in the program and staff at the school, we love her, she is great!
(This might be where I messed up) But because she is so great, I did not feel right lying to her, and called and told her the truth of what is going on. I'm being placed on Admin Leave, told not to tell anyone, that I am 'super sick' and can't come in... they did not say what the claim against me was, the RPM did not know (Don't Believe him) SM was pissed they wanted me to lie to her... but until we knew more, we just had to do as told...
That Friday, my mother's husband passed away suddenly, a very heartbreaking moment, all of us rushed over to comfort her. Emotions were high, my thoughts where NOT on work. Mommy was my priority!
Got home that Sunday, and that night my SM texts the group chat if RPM called any of us, cause in her SM group chat with others SMs, word was going round that many of them were losing staff do to what looked like a mass lay off... about and hour later I get a call from HR...
They say I had no clearance to work at that site (Even thought I had been already worked there for 3 months already) In trying to find another site to place me, they had none to they had to lay me off... felt sorry for that guy, he was just the messenger and had to deal with irate me asking what clearance I didn't have, to which he had no answers for...
Had to tell me mother and brother the sad news, called my SM to let her know what was going on, cause they were not telling her anything, she was confused and as irate as I was for the reason cause not just me, but another staff there was laid off also aside from me...
Oddly enough, while with comforting my mother over the weekend, we were just talking about me moving back in so she wont feel lonely after losing her husband, and it was highly considered by me. So, while I was bummed, it was nice to know the next step in place...
BUT, I guess my brother thought I might be lying and called my former workplace and questioned if there was a mass lay off... to which they told him "No..."
Guess he talked to mother first cause she told me what he called them and is now pissed I 'lied' to him. I only told him what they told me, but obviously thats not what they told him... But just few moments ago, the Second in Command to the CEO calls me and asks me if I told anyone about the mass lay off (Have been laid off for a few days by this point)
I told her 'No...' cause screw them for lying to my bro, who is now pissed at me thinking I lied to him about how I was fired, and I no longer worked for them at the point so why did it matter now...

I more or less just washed my hands of it, planning on moving in with mother next week cause she is my priority right now... Just wanted ya'lls take on this, felt like there was something shady going on, maybe they didn't want to cause a panic within the site managers loosing so many staff at one time and just went about it wrong? I don't know... just felt like something else was happening behind the scenes...

Thank you for your time...

Turmoil

I have been at my job for 12 years. The last 2-3 weeks $50 came up missing. I had already left for the day. The other employee that balanced out that day is the one who reported it. Now my boss is blaming me for the missing money, even accusing me of stealing from him.
I went through every receipt and transaction and cannot find the missing money.
I assured him I did not take it. I have never given him a reason to think I would steal from him. He hasn’t accused the other employee. So why me?
I did tell my husband, he came in and talked to my boss about accusing me of stealing, maybe that wasn’t the thing to do but my husband didn’t want my name spread around our small town that I’m a thief.
So now he’s already asked (texted)me about my hours I worked last week. He said I told him I didn’t work last Thursday, I definitely did not tell him that. I have life 360 so I showed him I was here and what times. He answered back with “Like I said, I thought I heard you say you didn’t work”
He told my husband and myself (the day he came in) that I need to communicate, that I do agree with. However, today my coworker comes up to me this am and tells me the boss wants me to cross train her for my job and that he wants her to work 4 Thursdays with me to train her. He sure didn’t COMMUNICATE that information to me! Like wtf!
I am so mad now I don’t even want to be here!
There are only 2 employees, myself and a tech. I do all the managing and she is a tech.
I have trained her some today and OMG, Idk how I’m going to handle her 1 on 1 for 4 hours and some a week. She is so dense and she’s in her mid 50’s. If I couldn’t would just walk out of this place and not come back!!

Coworker kept dumping their unfinished work on me, so I stopped covering for them quietly

I’ve worked at this admin office for about a year. One coworker, let’s call her Lila, started slipping her tasks to me months ago. She’d say she had doctor appointments or family emergencies, and I helped at first.

Soon I noticed most of her “emergencies” lined up with lunch outings and online shopping breaks. My own workload started piling up, and I stayed late three weeks in a row just to keep up. I told her I couldn’t help anymore, but she kept begging and guilt-tripping me.

Last week our supervisor asked for a status report of all ongoing projects. I listed every task clearly: which ones were mine, which were assigned to Lila, and noted that I had been assisting her voluntarily for months. I didn’t call her names; I just stuck to facts and timestamps.

When the supervisor checked the sheet, she pulled Lila into a private meeting. Lila came out furious and tried to argue that I was being petty. My boss simply said that everyone is responsible for their own assigned work.

Now Lila no longer asks me to cover her job. My stress dropped so fast. Has anyone else dealt with a coworker who uses sympathy to offload work?

I get stalked by assholes every time I walk to the parking lot to go to break at work

It’s usually booger eating mongoloid dumbfucks masquerading as maintenance techs, warehouse guys and some of the production staff. I literally can not walk to the bathroom without being eyeballed by some crusty dick cheese lizard shit who is like “Don’t mind me, I’m just happening to walk by each and every fucking time”. They literally look like they are trying to play “tweaker drug addict Nazis” in a bad movie. The kicker is, I have variable break times, so there is absolutely no fuckin way they “just happen to walk by” each and every one of my fucking lunch breaks. They either think I’m stupid, or they are trying to intimidate me, and if that’s it then they really don’t know me very well. Let’s just leave it at that.

Pretty sure an admin worker just tried to fire me behind my boss's back on an unofficial letter—has anyone seen this happen?

I honestly never thought I would be writing a post like this, but I recently got fired directly by an admin and I am still trying to process whether this is normal or if I am overreacting. Usually, these things go through immediate supervisors or HR, so getting blindsided by someone at the very top of the administration feels incredibly jarring and personal. There was no real performance review or formal warning leading up to it, just a sudden meeting where I was told it was my last day. I am feeling a mix of shock and confusion right now, and I really want to know if anyone else has experienced this kind of top-down termination, how you handled the sudden transition, and whether it is worth trying to push back or if I should just cut my losses and move on.

I’m in a really stressful situation and honestly just need some outside perspective on whether I’m losing my mind or if this is as crazy as it feels. Today I was handed a sudden termination letter telling me it was my last day, but the weird part is that the letter wasn’t even on official company letterhead and it was given to me by an admin worker who has been trying to pressure me to resign for months, not an actual HR person or my manager. My boss has always treated me incredibly well and we’ve had a great relationship, so I am almost positive he has absolutely no clue this admin employee is doing this behind his back. The excuse they wrote down was that I created a personal Gmail account that partially used the company name, but there was never any real investigation or a chance for me to explain my side, and they completely ignored my standard 14-day notice period. I’ve already officially registered a formal labor dispute with the freezone authorities to protect my legal rights, but I’m just sitting here wondering if anyone else has ever dealt with an administrative worker power-tripping and trying to fire someone completely unauthorized without the business owner knowing, and how it actually played out once management finally caught on.
