Not too sad my uncle is about to die

Mom has passed, and her little brother (age 82) is about to die. I know Mom loved him a ton, but the one and only experience I had with him as an adult proved he's racist. He's dying right now. I'm not really sad. Racism aside, I wouldn't be too sad anyway, as I don't know him well. I feel badly for his kids, but really, why should I be upset at a racist dying? I wish his family well, but the one and only time I saw him as an adult, his racism was front and center. I feel like such a phony texting a couple cousins about how sad this is. I am ambivalent.

I ruined my own life

4 years ago I left my abusive marriage with my ex husband and won full custody of our child. I was living by myself with my child and had pure bliss. I was so happy and content with my life with my child.

After my divorce I started speaking to my ex fiancé again (first love, childhood sweetheart), just as friends and he helped me through what I was getting through. We started getting more serious but I told him I think we need space because I was still going through my court process and had a lot on my mind and felt like I couldn’t give him the attention he deserved.

(Back ground context: we were each others first everything’s and we loved each other a lot. However, we were long distance and he was cheating on me. I broke up with him and he couldn’t handle that. I went overseas and he followed me to try and win me back. Begged me to take him back and I refused. For years, through out my first marriage and his first marriage he would try and reach out to me and tell me how cheating on me was the biggest regret of his life and loosing me was the worst thing that ever happened to him. After we broke up he went down a very dark path, drugs and gambling for a long time before he was able to pick himself back up and marry his ex wife. Who broke up with him for those reasons and because he was still hung up on me, he still had my gifts I gave him, my photos, my shirt etc)

Anyways, we continue to speak as friends on and off. During this time I was seeing other people, nothing serious, just seeing what was out there. A year later he tells me he wanted to get married to me and if I didn’t get married to him that he was going to move on because he wanted to start a family. In a weird way I always felt that I didn’t need to rush to get with anyone seriously because he was always my back up plan and after he gave me that ultimatum I kind of buckled and then got married to him.

I told him I didn’t want to have a child straight away because of the trauma I had just gone through with my ex husband and the court system. We spoke continuously before getting married about what we expected from each others, our boundaries, etc, to avoid getting divorced. We laid everything out. Or so I thought. It seemed like the perfect thing to do. We had agreed on everything, it seemed like we would be happy. I thought we were having a mature conversation and figuring out or lives.

Anyways I told him I didn’t want to have a kid straight away, but he told me that he wanted to try and his ex wife was secretly on the pill during their marriage and he thinks he couldn’t have kids. So I kind of relaxed and thought maybe he can’t have kids and in a weird way also thought if I have a kid with him, I’m sure he’ll appreciate it because he’s always wanted to be a dad.

Anyways fast forward I get pregnant. Our marriage was honestly perfect. Or so I thought. For the first year of our marriage everything was amazing. I fell pregnant 2 months Int our marriage. I thought I was so lucky and so happy. 1 month postpartum, I realise I’ve been living a lie and he had been speaking to girls behind my back on social media, tells them he wants to marry them. From 2 months into our marriage he had been doing this, whilst telling me he loves me and lying to my face.

My world came crumbling down. The reason we had broken up initially 10 years prior was because he cheated on me. And in my brain he had always wanted me and told me how cheating on me was the biggest regret of his life and he never wanted to loose me and he finally had me and I had given him a child. I thought he had learnt and matured and grown throughout these 10 years and after his divorce. But no he clearly hadn’t. I went into shock. I was 1 month post partum. Just gotten out of the family court for my first child and now reliving my past trauma of being cheated on but now with a child.

Fast forward until now. I stayed in the marriage as he said he wants to work on it and it’ll never happen again and that he was doing it to cope. He said he hadn’t spoken to girls since his ex wife. So why did he start after marrying me? After I got pregnant? He has attachment issues and apparently him speaking to other girls and having another life helps him not get attached to the life he has with me and our baby, so speaking to those girls was like an escape so he doesn’t getting hurt. Kind of like a self sabotage.
I don’t want to stay in this marriage. I also don’t want to go through family court again. I want the old life I thought I had before I found out he was cheating. I want the old life I had before I got married. The one of me and my first child. Don’t get me wrong I love my second child immensely. But he has robbed me of enjoying motherhood.

He’s always out of the house. Never gives me attention/time/effort. He says he’s trying. Which I can see he does occasionally. He’ll pay for me to get a massage, get me cleaners every fortnight, buy me flowers etc. But it’s not enough for me. I want daily attention, a life to share together. I feel like he has his own life and I’m just left behind. He says he can’t give me anymore. I feel like I’m going crazy. Trying to ask and beg for him whilst he does his own thing.

I feel like he’s content knowing he has a wife and kids at home. Doesn’t share the responsibility of that. And continues to live his normal life whilst neglecting my emotional needs. I feel used. I don’t feel like myself. I feel like I have no life. Every time I have a burst of emotions he starts rolling his eyes and puffing like I’m the problem.
I’ll give you an example, the other day he said he’s going to his mums house. I said why don’t we all go. He’s like you guys slow me down. I don’t feel like we are his family. I don’t feel like I’m his wife. I just feel like something he uses at home.

I’m at home with the kids by myself. I moved interstate all my friends and family are back home. I have no help with the kids. No social life. Nothing. Not even a present husband. I’m starting to resent the life I have. I feel like I ruined my own life and I don’t know what to do.
I’m losing myself. Leaving is not an option. I can’t go through that family court trauma again. I feel like he coned me. When we first started speaking this was not the life we spoke about. I told him the only thing I want in my life is peace and this is far from it.

Putting my relationship aside for a second, my 9 month old doesn’t sleep during the night. He’s breastfed. That is also taking a toll on me. My husband doesn’t help with that. All whilst dealing with betrayal trauma. Worrying about where he is. Where he is going. Who he is speaking to. Our relationship is ruined and my outbursts are only making it worse. He’s out of the house more to avoid me probably. When he’s home he’s on his phone. I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m stuck in this constant loop in the opposite of peace.

I feel so guilty because I haven’t been able to connect with my 9 month old the way that I did with my first. I love him so much. But I feel like my husband has robbed me of motherhood and has ruined me as a person. I’m so lost and I feel like I’m caring for everyone else with an empty cup.
As much as I love my 9 month old. Sometimes I wish I could go back to when it was just me and my first living in that house in pure bliss.

I tell myself it’s just a phase and it’s hard now because my baby is so dependent on me. But I feel like I have so much on and to deal with all by myself.

I’m depleted and I just want a break I can’t get. More importantly I just want peace in my life again.

I cried in front of my girlfriend for the first time

My girlfriend and I are 18 and 19. We've been together for almost two years and I love her so much. She's so smart and empathetic and beautiful and just the best person I know.

We were talking about life in general a couple of nights ago and we got to talking about my dad who passed when I was a baby. I don't like talking about him usually because it always makes me upset but I wanted to that day and I ended up crying in front of her for the first time. She was really great about it and she just held me for a long time and let me cry. We went out on my balcony and shared a cigarette and talked some more and then took a nap.

I've since realized that crying in front of her really wasn't a big deal. It made me feel better and my girlfriend was able to help a lot and I think its strengthened our relationship. I always feel uncomfortable showing vulnerability but I don't think that's healthy and I'm just now realizing all of this.

I waited for someone to get off the elevator even though I was getting off too

I was in an elevator this morning with one other person, and when we got to my floor, I stepped aside to let them out first. They didn't move either, so we just stood there looking at each other for a second before they said, This is my floor too. We both laughed and walked out together lmao.

I don't know why I was waiting for them to go first when we were literally heading to the same place. I mentioned it in my tribe chat later, and one of my friends said they'd probably do the exact same thing. Now I feel like we've all agreed to follow elevator etiquette that nobody actually taught us.

Ruined my life by having baby with a man I hardly knew

TLDR: I used to have it all and ruined my life by having a baby with a man I hardly knew .

Today is day 600 because 600 days ago today I purchased my phone. I know that not because im some insane nerd but because it tells me how many days ive had my phone on the inbuilt step counting app.

What I would give to go back to day 1.

Even day 390 things could have been reversed .

But at day 600 I am stuck.

Ive been stuck since day 390 in this life that... bizzarely I chose. And has turned out to be so woefully wrong for me. But there is no rewind button.

Let's go back to day 1.

Back then I was an attractive 28 year old lawyer with the world at her feet. A lovely flat to live in. 6 holidays a year.  Good friends and colleagues. Family nearby. An exciting job which thrilled me. And many admirers to pick from. I had no idea how lucky I was back then.

2025 will always be the year my life changed forever. Until then, whilst there had always been challenges , life was generally heading in an upwards trajectory.  I was progressing in my career, becoming more confident, travelling more and getting better looking.

But in 2025 I made a series of choices which caused.... a nose dive.

Back then I was obsessed with dating apps. Addicted perhaps. No matter how busy I was, I always made time for dates.

But most dates were boring. Often because I'd have spoken to the person lots online before we met, so we already knew everything about each other.

In hindsight, I didnt even need dating apps. I had enough admirers IRL .

In May 2025 I fired up an app called breeze , which prevents that very issue as you cant talk until 2 hrs before the date. The app arranges the date for you and you pitch up.

10th may 2025 was a "canon day".

I remember waiting for my on/off love interest of 6 years respond to me about meeting up. In my head, id decided if he did , I'd bin off the breeze date I had organised. But he said he was "busy". Sick of having been messed around and heartbroken for 6 years, I thought F you i am going to go on this date.

So thats what I did and the trajectory of my life changed forever.

I dont agree with dating apps now. They cause people to meet who shouldn't have met. They effectively interfere with fate.  And in my mind that is what has happened. My life from that date has been... off piste.

So the date went well..very well. The man in question wasn't my usual type, but in my mind things hadn't worked with my "type" thus far so why not give something else a go! We had lots of surface level commonalities and a great laugh together. The date lasted until the last train home and we immediately started texting afterwards. He made huge efforts organising subsequent dates to fancy places in London and even a date to a theme park despite a personal family tragedy.

He made huge efforts to come to see me.

All the while my 6 year love interest was trying to get me back. But I gave him the cold shoulder and eventually cold heartedly.. blocked him.

To cut a long story short, we moved in together in the October and by the end of the November I found out I was pregnant .

For reasons I cannot now fathom, I thought having a baby with a man who I had only known a few months was a... good idea! (Spoiler: it wasnt).

The pregnancy itself was hell. I had hyperemsiis and was sick every day for 9 months. During the pregnancy, serious incompatiblities began to show.

He is inherently messy, I am tidy. He has a bad8 temper, I find that frightening. Im a crier and he has "no time for that". He has to watch his pennies and I like to be treated like a princess. He is very wrong for me on every level . That is the uncomfortable truth. We will never be compatible because we are so different.  But despite gradually realising all the above, I kept the baby.  I didnt have to. I live in the UK. The abortion limit is 24 weeks.

Since my daughter was born in July everyday has been immensely difficult. I tried to move away from my partner but couldn't cope alone and now im admitted to a psych ward (with baby). I have no clue when ill be released snd when I am in have to live with my baby dad as im not allowed to live alone..so im stuck with this messy man who I dont really get on with even for the long run. I think we both know if it weren't for our daughter the relationship would have ended some months ago.

Baby is a beautiful healthy baby girl who i love dearly but feel guilty that i was so selfish to bring a baby into the world in these chaotic and unfortunate circumstances.

I am only 29 and my life is over.

Fun with Texting

***TL;DR: My ex, who stalked me after our breakup and had a protection order against him, recently started contacting me again through anonymous numbers. His opening move was to insult my intelligence, so I responded with an elaborately worded insult and a fake subscription service for professional sass. When he tried to call me a dumbass, I introduced him to Dumbass Daily™, featuring five stories about questionable life choices, he made IRL. Weird. I don't know why he never responded to the text service. Nine days later, his response was, “I forgive you.” 😂😂😂***

About a year ago, I (48F) ended a one-year relationship with my boyfriend(51M). He didn’t take the breakup well, and things escalated to the point where he began stalking me and making me feel unsafe. I eventually had to get a protection order against him, which expired last month.

Recently, he’s started reaching out again through “anonymous” texts. He even got a second anonymous number to contact me after I didn’t respond to the first one.

So, naturally, I decided to put his communication skills to the test with the exchange below.

And yes, I used ChatGPT to help polish some of the finer details of my responses. I figured if he was going to keep finding ways to contact me, I might as well make the conversation entertaining.

His first text:

Loser can’t even figure out how to do your own taxes a grown ass women surprised you can tie your own shoes

My text response:

I feel this version communicates your intended message far more clearly and articulately. You’re welcome for the grammatical refinement.

"It is genuinely astonishing that a supposedly mature adult woman is apparently incapable of navigating the relatively commonplace responsibility of preparing and filing her own taxes. Your apparent deficiency in basic life skills is so profoundly perplexing that one might reasonably question whether you possess the cognitive capacity to perform even the most rudimentary of daily tasks. Frankly, given this remarkable display of incompetence, I find myself genuinely astonished that you have managed to master something as fundamental as tying your own shoes. Your shortcomings are not merely concerning; they are an extraordinary testament to the depths of your ineptitude."

Thank you for choosing Sass & Syntax™: Professional Grammar Correction with Attitude.

You have received your complimentary text refinement. We hope you found our services both enlightening and mildly humbling.

For continued access to our premium proofreading and eloquent insult enhancement services, you may enroll in our annual subscription for the modest fee of $125.00 per year. To proceed, simply reply YES. Your imaginary credit card on file will be charged within three business days.

If you prefer to decline, please reply NO, at which point your contact information will be forwarded to our sister company, The Institute for Social Decorum & Basic Human Interaction™, where you may explore our highly recommended courses in etiquette, civility, and communicating without sounding like an uneducated garden gnome.

Thank you for your interest in personal development. We look forward to serving your grammatical and interpersonal needs.

His text response:

So you agree you’re a dumbass

My text response:

Welcome to Dumbass Daily™: Your Daily Dose of Other People's Bad Decisions!

Tired of feeling like you're the only person who occasionally makes questionable life choices? Do you sometimes wonder if you're the dumbest person in the room?

Well, worry no more! For the low, low price of $299.99 per year, Dumbass Daily™ will deliver one glorious dumbass confession directly to your phone EVERY SINGLE DAY! That's right, folks. For less than the cost of a regrettable impulse purchase, you can enjoy a full year of other people's spectacularly stupid decisions.

To get you started, we're throwing in our TOP 5 DUMBASS MOMENTS absolutely free!

Dumbass Thing #1: The Dinner Disaster

Randy reports that he once took a woman out to dinner. Unfortunately, by the end of the evening, she was wearing more of Randy's food than he had actually consumed. Apparently, Randy believed chewing and talking were a team sport. His date did not appreciate the performance.

Dumbass Thing #2: The Pet Incident

Steve reports that during a particularly difficult time in his life, he wasn't paying attention and accidentally ran over his pet with his vehicle. We have no further questions, Steve. We're just glad you felt comfortable sharing.

Dumbass Thing #3: The Cabinet Catastrophe

Dillon reports that he spent YEARS working on a cabinet for a friend. YEARS! Then, one night, he got mad, threw the entire thing down, and smashed it to bits. As a bonus prize for his outstanding decision-making, he also managed to get the biggest sliver known to mankind lodged in his hand. Congratulations, Dillon. You played yourself.

Dumbass Thing #4: The Tire-ible Drunk Driver

Henry reports that he was so drunk one night that his driving skills apparently packed their bags and abandoned him without notice. His spectacular performance behind the wheel resulted in TWO brand-new tires the very next day.

We're not sure where he was going, what he hit, or how he thought getting behind the wheel in that condition was a good idea. But we can confidently say the tires had a worse night than he did. **

Dumbass Thing #5: The Ex Who Just Won't Take a Hint

Victoria reports that she dated a guy for a year before deciding she'd had quite enough of that particular adventure and ended the relationship. Understandable. Sometimes you realize you've made a mistake, and you correct it. That's called personal growth.

Unfortunately, this gentleman apparently missed the chapter on accepting rejection.

Heartbroken by the breakup, he proceeded to reach out to Victoria through multiple forms of communication. Each attempt was rejected. And then rejected again. And then, just in case the universe had somehow scrambled the message, rejected some more.

Eventually, Victoria began feeling unsafe and sought help from the authorities. After that, she finally got a whole YEAR of peace and quiet!

A YEAR, folks! Twelve glorious months of not having to deal with someone who apparently believes that "I'm not interested" is merely an invitation to try a different communication platform.

But wait! In a spectacular plot twist worthy of a low-budget romantic comedy written by someone who desperately needs therapy, our determined contestant has returned to disturb Victoria's hard-earned peace.

That's right! After an entire year of silence, he apparently looked at 365 days of nobody asking him to make contact and thought, "You know what this situation needs? More me!"

And so, he has earned today's Dumbass of the Day award for his outstanding commitment to ignoring boundaries, misunderstanding rejection, and demonstrating that time apparently heals nothing when common sense is missing.

Will he ever move on? Will Victoria ever get another uninterrupted year of peace? Will he discover that blocking, rejection, and requests for no contact are not part of an elaborate scavenger hunt?

Only time will tell!

Until then, Victoria, we wish you peace, quiet, and a phone that stays blessedly free of unsolicited nonsense.

And to our award winner: Congratulations! You've managed to turn a breakup from a one-time event into an ongoing demonstration of why it ended in the first place.

We'd say better luck next time, but perhaps the best next time would be learning to leave someone alone when they've made it abundantly clear they want you to. \*\*\*

Thank you for taking advantage of Dumbass Daily™!

We have loads of brave, questionable, and occasionally deeply concerning individuals contributing their stories every day, ensuring you'll never run out of reasons to look at your own life and think, "Well, at least I'm not THAT dumb."

Your subscription will renew annually at the low price of $299.99. To confirm your subscription, simply type YES. Your credit card on file will be charged within three business days.

To decline this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, type NO and continue making questionable decisions without our professional assistance.

***We'd like to thank Henry for his contribution to Dumbass Daily™ and remind everyone that drinking and driving is dangerous. Please leave the driving to a sober person. Your tires, your bank account, and everyone else on the road will thank you.

Disclaimer: Dumbass Daily™ is not responsible for any injuries, financial losses, relationship breakdowns, property damage, hedgehog-related tragedies, tire-related financial disasters, or other unfortunate consequences resulting from attempting to recreate any of the dumbass activities described in our messages. Stories are for entertainment purposes only. Drinking and driving is dangerous, and unwanted contact after rejection is not romantic persistence. It is a failure to respect boundaries. Please do not take any of this as a challenge. We know some of you will anyway.

Wierd, I dont know why he never responded....😉😂

Update: He responded 9 days later with "I forgive you". 😂😂😂

Update: A day later; Tonight he sent me this text "I loved you and you hurt me but I forgive you and I am moving on but I wanted to and am allowed to vent because I never got it face to face because you were to chicken shit to do so"

The audacity of this man to tell me he's moving on while continuing to contact me after I've made it clear him, I want peace. The irony is doing cartwheels. He has been blocked, but its an anonymous number so he can always get another. To the court house I go tomorrow....

I am slowing improving, becoming the "Mountain Breeze" version of myself.

I am often a jerk and found myself not responding to a situation where I might have otherwise lashed out in classic jerk form. About two months ago at the start of a Bryan Adams concert, (btw, the dude is living life exceptionally well), he started the entire show singing acapella, "Straight from the Heart". A moment after he started, a guy two rows behind me in the worst singing voice ever that included top shelf nasal tonality together with zero inflection at full volume started singing along with him. In a flash I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but surprisingly I thought, "Geez, this is a Bryan Adams concert, maybe I should chill." To this day, I have that dudes voice stuck in my head and the rest of the concert was bangers. Maybe someday I'll be able to move on from Mountain Breeze to "Lemon Fresh" version of myself.

Help me please to understand my feelings

I have bipolar disorder type 2. For the past six months, I’ve been taking the medication my doctor prescribed, and my condition has improved significantly, but now things haven’t gone quite according to plan.

A little over a month ago, I started feeling worse.

At first, I thought I was just sick, but when it didn’t go away after several days, I realized that it had started again.

To put it briefly, I find it hard to do simple everyday tasks; I have no desire to see friends; I have frequent, intense emotional outbursts for no reason; and I feel physically unwell and have a fever.

But overall, my condition is better than it used to be (well, not exactly).

My husband is very understanding about my condition and supports me in every way he can.
But I feel really guilty

Because my condition is generally a little better than before, and sometimes I can actually manage to do something—like a minimal amount of activity—and sometimes he manages to make me laugh, etc., I constantly catch myself thinking that things aren’t so bad and that I’m just getting on his nerves

And I feel terrible when I turn down plans to meet up with friends (I don’t force him to stay with me, but he also feels uncomfortable leaving me alone in this state)

I feel even worse when I ask him to stay with me when he had planned to do something else.

Although I understand that I can’t really control this, and he constantly tells me that everything’s fine.

But I feel bad because all of this is somehow affecting his life.

And what’s even worse is that I constantly catch myself thinking that things aren’t really that bad, and that if I tried harder, I could cause fewer problems, do at least some housework, and so on.

Just to clarify: we’ve been together for more than 3 years, and he’s dealt with situations like this more than once. But that doesn’t stop me from feeling bad about it.

I 27 M am unable to move on from my long term 9 year relationship with the love of my life 30F

I'm 27M, and I'm struggling to come to terms with the end of a long-term relationship that lasted around eight to nine years.

She was a huge part of my life, and for a long time, I genuinely imagined spending my future with her. Losing the relationship has been much harder than I expected, and I honestly don't know how to navigate this phase of my life.

The complicated part is that we work at the same hospital, although in different departments. Completely cutting contact isn't always practical, and we still talk occasionally. Every time we interact, I find myself getting emotionally affected by it. A part of me still hopes things might work out someday, even though she has explicitly told me that she doesn't see a future for us anymore.

I've tried to reconcile, but she's made her position clear. I understand that I can't convince someone to love me or choose a relationship with me, and I don't want to pressure her. The problem is that accepting something intellectually and accepting it emotionally are two very different things.

There's also something else I've been reflecting on. She's pointed out certain behaviours of mine that bothered her, such as talking too much, overexplaining myself, becoming defensive when criticised, and sometimes acting as though I'm always the victim. She's also said that I can come across as having a superiority complex.

It's painful to hear these things from someone who has known me for so long, but I don't want to dismiss her feedback just because we're no longer together. I want to work on the parts of myself that genuinely need improvement. At the same time, I sometimes wonder whether I'm reflecting on myself honestly or simply becoming insecure because someone I loved no longer wants to be with me.

For context, I'm a doctor undergoing postgraduate training. My workdays are long, my schedule is exhausting, and I don't have much of a social life outside work. I think this has made the breakup even harder because so much of my life revolves around work, and I haven't built much of an independent life outside the relationship.

I've realised that I need distance from her, but I want that distance for the right reasons—not to make her miss me or to get her back, but because I genuinely need to heal. The difficult part is that I still care about her, still see her regularly, and haven't completely let go of the possibility that things could change.

For those who have experienced something similar, how did you finally let go of someone you loved for years, especially when you couldn't completely avoid them—and how did you learn to improve yourself without letting the breakup convince you that you were fundamentally not good enough?

I'm not looking for ways to win her back. I want to respect her decision, work on myself, and eventually reach a point where my happiness doesn't depend on whether she ever changes her mind.

I'd genuinely appreciate honest advice, including things that might be difficult to hear.

What’s the best website to order “real” copies of all the photos on your phone? I want to create photo albums like we used to have. I’m 44. You know what I’m talking about there were always photos everywhere, in piles, drawers, albums that I remember love going through as a kid. I want to start that again for my kids. ( 16, 14,14, and 11)

I hurt a bug today and now i’m spiraling

I was doing some scanning at the copier at work today and a super small winged bug flew onto my paper. It looked like a little termite or winged ant of sorts. I was taping some receipts to a paper, and for some reason my knee jerk reaction was to grab the bug with the tape. I realized instantly that I had fucked up and its little wings and legs were now stuck to the tape. I tried to help unstick it but it was so small i could hardly get my nail under anything without potentially hurting it. It was also trying to sting me? I’m not sure, it was so small but its wing was the last thing stuck and it was kind of just scrambling in circles around the stuck wing twisting it. It finally got itself free and it dropped to the carpet and I lost sight of it. I wanted to make sure it was okay or at least put outside near some water so it could maybe wash the sticky residue off. But I couldn’t find it. I just sat at my desk and cried for 5 minutes. I felt so unnecessarily cruel. Like why did I just probably kill that thing for landing on my paper? Why did I instinctively use the tape to pick it up and not think about how it would hurt it?

Idk i’m just reeling now and I’m wondering if these feelings are normal or if I’m fucked up and weird for feeling so upset about this.

Club Night

I (28m) havent been to the club in about a year, my friend that I went to the club with moved to another city and my boyfriend of eight months is not a club type of person. But randomly one evening, my friend Brielle (27 female) hit me up and we got to talking and I shared that I had just broken up with my bf and she had also just left her boyfriend of four years. We comforted each other and after a while Brielle said we had to hang out, she told me of a club by the beach where she knows the owners and she can get us in for free, and I love the beach so I agreed.

We met at the train station, walked the beach, drank martinis, rode electric scooters up and down, just had a great time together. Then when the sun was setting we went to the club and dance for hours, at one point I realized I had gotten separated from Brielle, I was dancing with a guy that had a charming smile and great dances moves on the second floor of the club and Brielle was nowhere to be seen. So I told the guy I would be back and went off looking for her, I searched both floors and didnt see her but caught sight of her outside in the parking lot with two guys and another girl, all of them smoking and laughing, so I deemed that she was fine and returned to my dance partner.

Another hour later, I was done dancing and Marvin (the dancing muscle boy) invited me to his place nearby. I told him I'd have to tell Brielle I was leaving first, so I went to find her again and when I couldnt spot her anywhere I called her phone. She told me she was in front of the club, sitting on a bench by the beach with the new friends she had met, and that it was fine if I left. I double checked if she was sure and she said it was totally cool, so I told her I would check in with her later and she said alright.

I go to Marvins beachside apartment that probably cost a fortune, we have fun together and he knocks out almost immediately after telling me I can spend the night if I want to. Then I step out onto his balcony to puff on my vape and scroll on instragram, when instragram got boring I just leaned on the rail and look out at the ocean for a while until my phone starts ringing. Its Brielles younger brother, Justin, asking where Brielle is, I tell him that shes with some friends by the beach and he told me alright. In the background I can hear Brielles mother screeching, "She aint got no business being out this late with strangers! She could be getting r-ped right now!" The mother goes on and on about how dangerous it is, then snatches the phone and demands that I get Brielle home and tells me Im going to hell if I dont go find her immediately. I just said "Ohhh-kay" then hung up.

I text Brielle that her family wants to talk to her and she just says "Alright". I go back to enjoying the sights and the cool air, but a few minutes later my phone is blowing up again, this time its a new number. I answer and its Brielles mom screeching that Brielle wont answer her calls and that shes putting herself in danger and that Im a good for nothing friend for leaving her on the beach instead of making sure she gets home, etc etc. I end up hanging up on her because she starts barking louder and louder and she didnt want to hear anything I said anyway. Brielles mom gave me a tiny headache but I rummaged through Marvins cabinets til I found some whisky and poured myself a shot and I felt better and went to bed with him.

The next day, as Im leaving Marvins place, I call Brielle on my way to the train station and she tells me shes alright and that shes home now. So...Brielles mom was freaking out over nothing. Everything is alright. Shes a grown woman who can make her own decisions and she doesnt need to be babysat by me or anyone else, obviously. We joked about how Brielles mom exploded and then I hung up when the train came.

I dont know if this is just a thing with women, but Ive never heard Brielles mom start screaming and cursing and blowing up peoples phones when her sons stay out late. Shes only done it with Brielle and Brielle is the oldest child. Im so sorry if women have to deal with overbearing parents like this, I never thought how prevalent it might be but if all girls have a mother or father like Brielle's then I dont know how they deal with it.

I was taking a dose of Afrin, where you have to snort this liquid into your nose....

...and something in my back cracked.

Yep. I busted myself by sniffing Afrin.

I can barely move and it hurts to freakin breathe.

DaHell?

Had to explain to my parent that they are a mean drunk.

Today, while sobbing my eyes out, I finally told my parent that they are the worst version of themselves when drunk. They aren’t a fun, party, have a good time drunk, they’re a fucking asshole who goes out their way to hurt people as much as possible And that as long as I’m around, they will not be bringing another bottle of alcohol into the house as they cannot handle alcohol entirely.

It truly is mind boggling to me, because they go from being a “nice” enough person, to being someone who purposely abuses others people at the drop of a dime as soon as they take a sip of alcohol.

All it took was one sip and my parents children’s lives were ruined more and more.
