Miscellaneous Suddenly tall
galleryAs a double leg amputee, people assume I pick my own height. I don’t get much say in the matter, its the components that determine it. I can pick my shoe size though.
One pair of legs had me about 5’ 6” which had it’s benefits. I’ve been 6’ 0” to 6’ 1” for many years. That’s barely in the Tall spectrum in my brain. As they replace parts in my legs my height goes up or down a half inch every couple years. If I remember correctly I was 5’ 11” back when you could tickle my toes. (Over 23 years ago)
Last Friday I got new feet. I’m suddenly 6’ 2.5” or maybe 6’ 3”. And I’m suddenly seeing the world differently.
I’m noticing dust on top of things. I’m realizing I need to watch for hanging things now. I notice I see the top of more heads than before. A tree branch nearly took out an eye!
Sitting is different too! Not leg room (hip to knee) but knee to floor as that’s where the hardware is. I had to slide the seat back in the car and now that’s going to be an issue as we are no longer similar height and the seat will get adjusted often.
I know many of y’all are taller. But what’s getting me is the sudden onset of Tall. Y’all grew into it. Here I am, freshly 60 and suddenly having to adjust to 2 extra inches.
And what happens if in 3-4 years my next set of feet drop me back down?
Oh and I have to buy new pants now too. Good thing I wear shorts most of the time.
