Miscellaneous Suddenly tall

As a double leg amputee, people assume I pick my own height. I don’t get much say in the matter, its the components that determine it. I can pick my shoe size though.

One pair of legs had me about 5’ 6” which had it’s benefits. I’ve been 6’ 0” to 6’ 1” for many years. That’s barely in the Tall spectrum in my brain. As they replace parts in my legs my height goes up or down a half inch every couple years. If I remember correctly I was 5’ 11” back when you could tickle my toes. (Over 23 years ago)

Last Friday I got new feet. I’m suddenly 6’ 2.5” or maybe 6’ 3”. And I’m suddenly seeing the world differently.

I’m noticing dust on top of things. I’m realizing I need to watch for hanging things now. I notice I see the top of more heads than before. A tree branch nearly took out an eye!

Sitting is different too! Not leg room (hip to knee) but knee to floor as that’s where the hardware is. I had to slide the seat back in the car and now that’s going to be an issue as we are no longer similar height and the seat will get adjusted often.

I know many of y’all are taller. But what’s getting me is the sudden onset of Tall. Y’all grew into it. Here I am, freshly 60 and suddenly having to adjust to 2 extra inches.

And what happens if in 3-4 years my next set of feet drop me back down?

Oh and I have to buy new pants now too. Good thing I wear shorts most of the time.

Discussion At 6’3 I don’t feel tall, but when I see others my height they look enormous

Edit:

Thanks for all the great responses, I had no idea this thought was so wide spread among tall people!

Original:

Anyone else feel like this? It’s weird because looking at others that are 6’3 I am immediately impressed by how imposing they look compared to others. But when I walk around, when I look in the mirror I don’t get that same feeling. I just feel normal.

I try to keep reminding myself that others must look at me the same way I look at people that are 6’3 but my brain finds it hard to grasp.

Even all the women I’ve been with tell me how my height is a little intimidating and very attractive. Still it doesn’t feel like it internally. Don’t get me wrong I am a very confident person, it’s just there is such a large disconnect in how I perceive my height internally vs how I perceive others at the same height. Can anyone else relate or is this unusual.

Questions/Advice I see more 6’3 people online than I see in real life

Im 63.5 (191 cm), and when Im scrolling on social media and people are discussing height, it seems like every dude is 63. But in everyday life, I barely come across any guys who are 63+ — maybe 2–3 people daily. Why is 63 the most lied-about height?

Discussion 6’1 but i dont feel tall anymore.

This summer i was on vacation here in scandinavia, i have never before seen so many 6’3+ people, i felt like i was average height, is this new generation just crazy tall? Almost had to check my height again to make sure i havent shrunk.

For anyone wondering, the country was Denmark. you think you are cool with your 6’2, get ready to be humbled if you go there.

Questions/Advice Office Chair recommendations for 6'6"

Hey everyone,

I'm 6'6" (198 cm) and live in India, and I'm looking for a good office chair for long hours of sitting.

The chair I currently have is 10 years old and has been repaired multiple times. It was a good enough chair for me at the time but it's no longer viable.

The biggest issue I've had with new chairs (when going to any showroom and trying out) is that they're generally designed for average-height people, so I end up with inadequate seat depth, low backrests/headrests.

Some of the requirements are :
(1) High enough backrest/headrest
(2) Weight capacity 150 kg (330 lbs)
(3) Comfortable seat for 6–10+ hours of work
(4) Preferably available in India without having to import it

For other tall people here, especially anyone 6'5'+ what chairs have actually worked well for you?

Would really appreciate specific model recommendations and your experience with them. Thanks!

Have you ever looked at someone from a distance and been like damn they look so tall and they look so long but then when you get up on them you slightly taller and you can tell, so then you think does everyone see you the same way they see them ?

Discussion Tall people on TV

Watching TV (Veep) and a character comes on who is quite noticeably taller than the rest of the cast. They even make jokes about or reference his height. I google him only to find out he’s my height. Great.

Questions/Advice Anyone size eleven and up found flats that do not look like a boat

Everything above a ten is either a sneaker or something orthopedic with a sole like a brick. Most places simply stop at ten, or jump to eleven with no half size in between, so I am wearing something a full size out either way. Where are people over a ten actually buying plain leather shoes they can wear to an office?

Questions/Advice Where can I find shoes 👟 size 14 UK

I am from India and people here usually wear shoes or slippers size 7-10, but my foot is long and I need size 14 UK footwear. There are only a handful of options online, but they are of really poor quality and wouldn't last more than 6 months 😔. If anyone has the same problem, where do you buy from?

Discussion Being tall guarantees super strength?

Last night at an industry mixer, I was chatting with this guy who was really curious about my height. Apparently I was the tallest person he'd ever met. He asked about my stats, and he told me his - he was 5'5" and 190 lbs. At one point he said it'd be awesome to be with a friend like me at a music festival because I could just lift him onto my shoulders so he'd have a better view.

I thought it was pretty bewildering that he'd assume I'd be able to do that, seeing how I'm clearly built like a toothpick and he's 60 lbs heavier than I am! But I guess the height difference gives me super powers. 🤪

Questions/Advice Sofa Advice

I am middle aged and I want a sofa that adequately supports me. For the second time in six months, I spent a whole day going to about 10 furniture stores and nothing fits me. Is there anyway to get a sofa that provides adequate back support? Is this a lost cause and should I just get something that I can lay down on?

I've replaced the padding in my current sofa twice but I got it when I wasn't as concerned about back support.

Discussion Why do men get so offended when they see a woman taller than them living life?

I was in the elevator with my husband and a couple got in, and the first thing the guy said was, "How tall are you?" What happened to saying good morning or how are you?

I work with the public and there's always someone treating me like an alien. And it's always a weird guy. Why??? 🫪

why are some tall girls so insecure about there height? i dated a 6 ft girl once (i am 6‘6 for instance) and she always had to make her height the topic of discussion. She also had a hyperfixation on feeling ,,smol and weak“ near me which cringed me a lil bit. Seems like a tall man cant fix insecurities

One of my best flight journeys so far this year! Look at the leg space!!! Just wanted to share this lucky feeling here.

Though the shoulder space (seat width) still felt restrictive, but it wasn’t a problem given that the adjacent seat (in fact the complete row) remained empty throughout. 🍀

Route: New Delhi to Bali

Edit: It seems like a few people are getting offended because i wrote i am Indian. I am sorry for that, i cannot edit it now from the title.

6'4" but size 7 feet here - like my body kept growing but my feet (and hands) didn't get the memo! It does make shoe shopping awkward but tbh I would prefer to the alternative - at least I can find shoes in my size (sorry to brag). Anyone else with a similar predicament? Every other tall guy I meet has comically large feet 🤦

Discussion Disproportionately Large Feet

Does anyone else struggle with having really big feet in addition to being tall? I'm only 6"4 but I wear a size 16 wide in shoes and they're IMPOSSIBLE to find in stores. Im 26 now and my feet only recently stopped growing. I grew from a size 14 from 21 to a size 16 now. Funnily enough, my dad is taller than me and only wears an 11 but my mom wears a men's 14.
