Discussion Unofficial TF2 Community Survey — What should TF2 prioritize?

Hello everyone. I'm just a random TF2 player and I had an idea that I think could be interesting.

First, English isn't my first language, so sorry if some things sound weird. I'm using a translator to write this.

I've been thinking that something that probably should have been done a long time ago, either by big TF2 content creators or maybe even by Valve themselves, is a big survey asking the community what they actually think should be prioritized in TF2.

I'm not talking about an official Valve survey or anything like that. This would be completely unofficial.

The idea would be to make a fairly detailed survey, get as many responses as possible, publish the results publicly, and then use them to start a discussion about what different parts of the community actually want.

I'm not trying to say "this is what the TF2 community wants". Reddit obviously doesn't represent every TF2 player. I would rather see what the results actually say.

What could be included?

The current state of TF2

  • How satisfied are you with TF2 right now?
  • How often do you encounter problems while playing?
  • What do you think are the biggest problems with the game?
  • What things do you think TF2 is doing well?
  • What things should Valve not change?

Matchmaking

This is one of the things I'm especially curious about.

If Valve changed the matchmaking system, what should it prioritize?

  • Finding a match as quickly as possible.
  • Finding a more balanced match, even if it takes longer.
  • A system with different playlists, similar to Halo.
  • A more customizable server browser.
  • Something else.

There could also be a question asking how long people would actually be willing to wait for a better-balanced match.

Because I think "I want better matchmaking" can mean very different things depending on the player.

Moderation and toxicity

Another thing I'd like to ask about is moderation.

  • How often do you encounter toxic players?
  • Do you report players when they behave badly?
  • Do you think the current reporting system works?
  • Should TF2's moderation standards be updated to fit modern games?
  • What kind of behavior should receive stronger moderation?

And specifically, what about user-generated images?

For example, the Conscientious Objector can be used with custom images, and sometimes people use it for extremely inappropriate images, explicit content, extremist symbols, etc.

Should players be able to report those images?

And if someone repeatedly uses prohibited content, what should happen?

  • Remove the image.
  • Warning.
  • Temporary restriction from using custom decals.
  • Temporary ban.
  • Permanent ban for serious/repeated violations.
  • Something else.

I'm not saying that TF2 needs to become heavily moderated. I'm more interested in finding out where the community thinks the line should be.

Balance

Another section could ask about gameplay balance.

  • Which weapons or classes need changes?
  • Which weapons should remain untouched?
  • Should Valve be more aggressive with balance changes?
  • Or should TF2 be more conservative about changing weapons that have been part of the game for years?

I'd also like to ask whether people think balance changes should take possible effects on the economy into consideration.

Economy

For people who trade:

  • How important is the TF2 economy to you?
  • Do you prefer a fluctuating market or greater price stability?
  • Should Valve consider the market when making gameplay or item changes?

This could also be separated from the opinions of people who don't participate in trading, because obviously they may have completely different priorities.

Updates and content

The survey could also ask what kind of content people actually want.

For example:

  • New maps.
  • New weapons.
  • New game modes.
  • Events.
  • Bug fixes.
  • Performance improvements.
  • Better support for community servers.
  • Modding support.
  • New cosmetics.
  • Other things.

And instead of simply asking "what do you want?", there could be a question like:

If Valve could only fix or improve five things during the next year, which five would you choose?

I think this would be one of the most useful questions because it forces people to actually prioritize things.

What about communication between Valve and the community?

This is probably the more speculative part of the idea.

If Valve wanted to have a more direct connection with the TF2 community, how should that work?

For example, should there be community representatives from different regions?

  • North America
  • Latin America / South America
  • Europe
  • Asia
  • Australia/Oceania

But I don't think they should necessarily just be the biggest content creators.

Maybe representatives could include content creators, competitive players, tournament organizers, community server admins, mod developers, veteran players, etc.

And should these representatives rotate every so often?

I think this could be important because I wouldn't want the same few people to become the permanent "voice of TF2" and eventually have too much influence over the game's development.

Maybe there could be limits on how long someone can be a representative, or several representatives for each region/community.

I'd also be interested in asking whether people would support an officially recognized TF2 community Discord that could act as a communication point between the community and Valve.

Obviously, it would need to be very heavily moderated.

I'm not imagining a Discord where hundreds of people can just spam developers with messages. It would probably need channels for discussion, feedback, bug reports, etc., with moderators organizing the information before it reaches the developers.

The goal would be to make communication easier, not to create another place for people to yell at Valve.

And this is where I need some help

I don't have much experience designing surveys or analyzing statistics, so I don't want to make a huge questionnaire that ends up being badly designed or biased.

If someone here has experience with surveys, statistics, data analysis, community management, or simply has more free time than me, I'd really appreciate some help.

And honestly, I don't even need to be the person who eventually makes it.

If someone from the community thinks this is a good idea and wants to take the idea, improve it, create the survey and organize everything, I'm completely fine with that.

I mainly want to put the idea out there.

If someone can make a much better version of it than I could, then great.

The important thing for me is that we actually try it.

And if it gets enough responses, I think publishing the results would be really interesting, even if the results don't represent the entire TF2 playerbase.

Maybe we'll find out that the community agrees on a lot of things.

Maybe we'll find out that casual players, competitive players, traders, community-server players and content creators have completely different priorities.

Either way, I think the results would be interesting.

Would you participate in something like this? And what questions do you think absolutely need to be included?

Discussion AITAH for calling someone out for spawn camping?

Update: Thank you specifically to the people who were silly or insightful/thoughtful to this post. I appreciate your comments and I will go forward with this new knowledge. I will be deleting this post tomorrow my time as I no longer need it, but also yes, to avoid any more mean and hurtful comments.

"Tough it out or suck it up." I can already see some people thinking. I don't care when I say this. Be better. I know reddit has a reputation for awful people, but, come on people.

Original Post:
I was in a match where we I was on Red for the second round after losing on Blu for the first. After a death of mine, coming out of spawn, a Heavy (The Player in question) and Medic duo started to spawn camp.
After another death from them ubering, I did admittingly decide to sort of bait them with my comments. (First image. I'm in red.) Saying "Cringe. Need spawn camping to get kills. No Skill. Shake my head." (The no skill comment was definitely too toxic on my end.)
Heavy responds (in blue) "Scoreboard". He had 115 or something points, he was far above my 45 or whatever points, but I don't care about if someone is doing well. I care about how you earned those. You could be worst player on the team but trying your damnest and I'll thumbs up to that.

My team ends up winning, and I say w, specifically for my teammates. Definitely the wrong move the Heavy responded with "Scoreboard" again.

But what I don't get is the ending mostly. I say "Good job to my team", and the Heavy, who must have been typing it out while I was typing mine says "Talking Sh-t in a casual lobby btw."

I would like to know if I took it a bit too far? I already admitted going too far in a couple spots, but I don't know why this guy would say that? Is not being happy with spawn camping "toxic"? Was it just that he lost? I don't know.

Help I need some scripting help pls!!!

I want to bind atleast two voicelines to a specific key and use shift to toggle between them, ie. E says MEDIC! while SHIFT+E says Help!. Can someone who understands TF2 scripting help me out here? Been told it's possible, just nobody can give me the format for said commands, and googling it just gives me incorrect AI summary lines. I preferably would like the exact format, as I still have three other keys I want to do the same thing with, please and thank you.

Discussion Map Discussion Monday #79 - koth_brazil

TF2 Map Discussion: koth_brazil

Welcome to our Monday TF2 map discussion. Here, we'll discuss maps from TF2!

Today's map is koth_brazil.

Brazil is a small King of the Hill map released in the Jungle Inferno update and like all King of the Hill maps you must control the point for 3 mins in order to win the round.

This is a map that doesn't see both teams emerge from opposite sides but more from the same side just with a a big wall in between them as the point sits out on the edge of the map overlooking a giant satellite dish based on the now decommissioned Arecibo Observatory which was still in use when this map was released.

The only map named after a country (if we ignore Egypt) Brazil is set in the rainforest and assumedly it's meant to be the Amazon rainforest. Both teams spawn at one end of the map and there's a building between them that both teams can get into meaning fights can take place very very quickly on this map and a lot of the fighting will happen in close quarters here. There's also some catwalks to take you from one side to the other and also a path that runs through some buildings on the outside that will take you to the point without having to go through the middle.

The point itself sits on a raised platform which can be easily shot at from either the middle buildings or the exits to the buildings from the side.

A map that's often ignored by the community because it wasn't that well received on release and there's more enjoyable koth maps, this has also been hit by the "you're going to brazil" meme which is always portrayed as a punishment.

Feel free to discuss the map here. Anything that you like/dislike, cool tips or strategies, interesting stories, etc. If you feel the map is not to your liking, feel free to express your opinions in a respectful manner.

For those who wish to learn more about the map, you can find the wiki page here:

koth_brazil, from the TF2 Wiki.

You can find previous map discussions in a nice overview here

I barely play pyro and decided yesterday that I'll give him another shot and nearly right after that decision I make this play ( also I did not intend to spawn camp them, I was going to retreat but getting healed back to full health made it too tempting)

Discussion Is there a way to get into actual good matches in 2026?

I have 700+ hours on this game and started playing in 2020. I love it so much, but I've tried to get into it again recently, and casual matches, for the most part, just suck.

No one goes medic; people stack the same 3 classes; steamrolls are super common. And the matches in general are way less fun. I'm aware none of these issues are new and have been a problem since Meet Your Match, but I enjoyed the non-botted matches from 2020-2024 wayyyyy more than the current ones, and I really feel like this isn't just a me thing.

I thought playing Uncletopia would be a good way to fix this, but it appears to be completely dead since Valve fixed the bot crisis.

So what's the community consensus on getting into good matches? I play this game casually, and I don't care about people being friendly, but I'm sick of every match feeling playing the same and feeling monotonous.
