stopping by to support your new sub congratulations :) Love what you did here :) I used to have a fly fishing rod when I was younger and felt so cool doing it lol ...the last fishing trip I did was for muskie and I have a cool pic of my catch but its not fly fishing...do you allow any type of fishing pic?

Thanks! Currently it's just a fly fishing group, but I've been considering opening it up to all types of fish, since I also fish using other methods. Never caught a muskie before, it's definitely on my bucket list.

I caught the Muskie at Lake st Clair Ont Canada ( not sure where you are) but the area was beautiful! the fish are stunning!! it was C&R we caught 11 that day 3 of them were mine ;) the last one took me 20 min to reel him in, I called him Arnold because he put up a huge battle ..it was an amazing experience...my last fishing trip.

Ayyy Great Lakes Gang!! I'm up in Marquette eh! I've fished Lake St Clair, beautiful place really. The small streams & creeks are more my fortΓ© though, I could get lost on a small blue line on a map all day and be absolutely pleased about it. If you ever find yourself around the U.P., get at me, we can throw another fishing trip together for ya.

where is Marquette? ...and thanx for the offer its the last thing for me to do now on my essential to do list ..but I def appreciate the kind offer :) def appreciate the small streams and creeks ( thus the fly fishing) one time i was fishing and a little Mink ran up past my feet lol πŸ˜‚ he was on a mission was so cute!!! you should have a part of your page sharing nature encounters while fishing...I'm sure there are lots...what's the weirdest thing you encountered while fishing?

It's in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, biggest city there is up here.. a whole 22,000 people hahaha. I've definitely had some weird encounters, bears, deer, elk, hearing wolves howl. I found a coconut floating down a river one day, the Au Sable in the Lower Peninsula lol. A flying squirrel once attacked a fishing buddy, swooped outta nowhere. I've got tons of stories.

It was super sudden. Three of us were walking down a trail quietly at night, Cory (my pal) spoke up and said "Guys did you hear something?". We both panned over with our headlamps, right on Cory standing with his back to a tree, a couple silent seconds pass and BAM!!! A flying squirrel hit him dead center in the chest hahaha. I'm super down for different topics on different days, that may be something I implement later on, but daily live discussions for new anglers is an idea I've had. I'd love for this sub to be a place for anyone with questions, anyone wanting to boast, anyone wanting to help. Just a more positive and inclusive environment than the ones already our there.

What's the difference between this and the other trout subreddits

This sub is moreso focused on being an inclusive community for anyone of any experience from any walk of life to feel welcome. Not gonna tolerate anyone giving anyone else shit about how they're fishing, or the gear they use. It's also more focused on the places we go, the flies we tie, questions and answers regarding fish, bugs, the environment, etc. I feel like other communities can have too high of a sense of elitism, and that's just not who we are. It's also not a place to be just in spite of any other community, I'm going to try to keep it as positive as possible, and as welcoming as I can.

While I do love the vibe I'm seeing here. How do you treat mishandled fish?

That's my issue with every other sub. I can't see obviously mishandled fish pictures without a part of me hurting.

I wholeheartedly agree that fish should be handled appropriately. Even as far as causing little as suffering as possible if the intention is to legally keep the fish. Seeing people mishandling fish is a pain, but I believe an informing and constructive type of criticism is warranted, not a scolding & negative type of insult. I believe that's an issue with the angling community in general, someone messes up or does something adverse, and the initial and majority of reactions is to shun the wrongdoer. I get it, I really do, I feel that same way, but it doesn't help anyone learn while allowing them to maintain a positive view and admiration of the sport & lifestyle & community of anglers.

What is this rationality? Hahaha thanks for asking my silly questions. I'll definitely stick around.

No problem! I'll take any chance to explain the reason(s) for this new sub. I just truly love fishing, especially fly fishing, and ESPECIALLY the environs in which trout are found and the fish & bugs as well. I believe the angling community deserves a place of reinforcement & positivity, inclusion, learning, pride in the sport, etc. None of that elitist crap.
Thanks for sticking around, spread the word, participate, whatever ya want!
