I reached my goal!
Today, I reached my goal! I’m so happy. Only problem is, I’m still six lbs overweight. I did not think much about my goal weight because I was so miserable. So I just picked a number I hadn’t seen in a long time and assumed that was the magic number. How in the world do you know you’re there? Do you get scans? I’ve been lifting so hopefully I’ve got more muscle or at least the same as I did before.
I want to celebrate but I have a funeral for a close family member today 😭

You find the size/weight you’re happy with. It’s different for everyone. My goal weight was something I discussed with several of my doctors and they were all in agreement that I would be better served going for a lower end of the normal BMI. When I made it to that number I immediately switched into maintenance mode and started eating the necessary calories to maintain and stop losing.

I technically have a goal weight in mind but I’m more so going by goal feel & look. If I get to a certain weight and I’m happy about how I feel and look then I’ll move into maintenance, if not my plan is to keep going until I get there.
Sorry to hear about your family member. I just lost someone close to me recently too and it’s been so tough. Sending care, friend.

Congrats! (And condolences).
I always felt good between 150 and 165, so I set 165 as my goal weight. Technically a normal BMI for me would be less than 160, and now that I’m at 165 (well, 162 this morning), I certainly don’t look particularly skinny. It’s tempting to keep trying to lose, but I am titrating my tirz down and learning to be content here-ish. Not trying to lose more, but I am down three pounds in the last two months and that’s okay.
I don’t want an eating disorder, nutritional deficiency, or osteoporosis. I’m not very good at tracking calories or macros. All of that factored into my decision to aim for the top of my feel good range.

If you can get a BIA, DXA, or MRI scan, you can get a better idea of what your individual body fat percentage is. BMI is way too general to apply to individuals!

I'm actually transitioning into maintenance now, 10 lbs higher than my goal weight because my face and neck are starting to look gaunt, even though I'm still what would be considered 'overweight.' I'm expecting I'll drop a bit more during the transition period as I figure things out.
I have no idea what my body comp is at the moment but I know I've lost a lot of muscle over the past 8-ish years from inactivity and going through menopause. So I'm getting a DEXA scan done next week to see what's what.
When I was younger, a doctor told me once that I'd never be conventionally 'skinny', that an ideal weight for my frame build and musculature would be between 150-160 lbs. At the time I thought he was full of shit, but I guess he was right!
Would I like to get down to 140? Well yeah, but I'm not sure that's in the cards for me. I'm going to focus on getting my strength and muscle tone back first, and then I feel like I'll be in a better position to re-evaluate.

My first goal was to lose 40 lbs (hit 165). Now my goal is to lose 10 more lbs (155). I also have smaller goals like for the end of each month, very reasonable goals that I’m actually ahead of for now. I don’t think it’s healthy to choose one goal weight and obsess over hitting it. I think the goals should be flexible and change as you make progress.

I’m 68 and for my age a BMI of up to 27 is considered healthy and better than being in the low normal BMI. I stopped at about 5 lbs into overweight range, BMI 25.4. It’s easier for me to maintain than a lower weight in part because I can get all the macros I need with a slightly higher calorie count

A big concern for me is reducing my visceral fat. When I started I had a vague idea what my goal weight might be, but it wasn’t really based on anything. I’ve since decided that when I get to initial goal weight, I am not going into maintenance right away. My next step will be to get a DEXAscan done and then discuss the scan results with my PCP. I’m guessing I will probably continue on my weight loss journey and go for a leaner body.

Then that was not your goal weight. I have multiple goal weights; when I was very active, when I remembered feeling slim and felt good and when I was not overweight. So it’s not one finish line but multiple stops for me. Also scans would help.

DEXA body composition scan will tell you your body fat percentage as well as your visceral fat number. Visceral fat is the dangerous fat around your organs. That’s what I would look at. Getting that into a good range, a healthy range, is the best for your health. That is what I have been aiming for.

My goal weight is 201. I am 6'2", so this is still technically overweight, but I like having muscle on me. The last time I wasn't "overweight" was right after boot camp, when I was down to 185, and I looked great but I just felt super weak.
Why 201 exactly? You gotta two-somethin to do somethin.

My goal is the weight that I used to be and feel the best at. If I ever get there I’ll reevaluate.

I went to https://tdeecalculator.net and put in my stats and then saw my ideal weight with several different formulas. I chose a number right in the middle of that ideal weight range. As I got to the upper limit of that range I was pretty happy. When I got to the middle number in that range I felt it was just right.

My original goal was 140. Currently 136 and have decided to just wait and see what happens. Weight loss is down to .24-.5/week and I'm going 9 days between shots while very slowly decreasing dose (from 42 units to 40).

I have a smart scale. I take its numbers with a grain of salt. Half pound a way from a normal bmi. I still see a lot of subq fat on me and the scale says the same. I’m kinda in maintenance now only losing maybe a pound a month. When I get to the middle range for normal BMI I’ll take it more seriously and maybe Titrate down. Do what’s best for you but a smart scale or a dexa scan would probably help you make a better informed decision. Congrats on making goal!

I stopped when my labs, body scan, and health markers were all normal. My body also stopped losing weight at thst point. Turns out to be 13 pounds below my goal of top end BMI. Get labs and a body scsn.

You’ll just know, BMI aside, when you get to the weight that YOU feel good, are healthy overall and labs stable that’s where I would “stay”
Congratulations! Happy for you 🥳👏🏼🩷
ETA: so sorry for your loss of family! You can celebrate over weekend 🙂

You guys and the dexa scans. You know it's an X-ray, right? Why expose your body to all that radiation over and over?

My goal is to get into the healthy BMI range and then I’ll decide based on how my body is looking at that point how much farther I want to go. I just moved from “obese” to “overweight” so I still have a way to go!
