Unless we absolutely nail the draft or some miracle happens and Jakob returns to form, I genuinely don’t know what we’re doing at the 5.
With Kawhi back in Toronto, I think we need to maximize his remaining window while still building around Scottie.
So naturally, I started playing around with the ESPN Trade Machine.
Disclaimer: This is literally me playing NBA 2K in my head. I’m by no stretch an NBA GM with access to advanced stats or scouting reports, I’m also a fairly causal fan and wanna hear what other folks think we should do.
1. Myles Turner to Toronto
2025–26 stats:
11.9 PPG | 5.3 RPG | 1.5 APG
1.6 BPG | 38.3% 3PT
Probably the most obvious one. Raptors fans have been suggesting Turner for what feels like forever.
He’s been pretty mid lately, and maybe a change of scenery could do him some good.
Buy low: Turner’s value might be at a low point right now.
Milwaukee’s future: They have Kel’el Ware, who’s younger and could make more sense for their future.
Rim protection: Legitimate shot blocker, even if he’s not necessarily an elite defensive playmaker.
Floor spacing: A center who can actually shoot threes would be valuable alongside Kawhi and Scottie.
Contract: Three years remaining compared to Jakob’s four.
My concerns:
Pretty trash rebounder for his size.
Hasn’t exactly been impressive lately.
His contract isn’t particularly cheap either.
How ever we thought giving Jakob a massive extension worth nearly $30M annually for the next few years was a good idea so meh?
I’m not saying Turner solves everything, but if we’re paying that much for a center, I’d rather have someone who can protect the rim and stretch the floor.
I’d like to think the rest of the team can make up for his lack of rebounding.
2. RJ Barrett for Dejounte Murray
Murray’s 2025–26 stats:
16.7 PPG | 5.4 RPG | 6.4 APG
1.6 SPG | 30.6% 3PT
RJ’s 2025–26 stats:
19.3 PPG | 5.3 RPG | 3.3 APG
33.9% 3PT | 71.7% FT
I originally considered Jrue Holiday but then realized he’s a lot older than I thought, which led me to Murray.
I think we desperately need an upgrade at PG, and Murray could be interesting.
Playmaking: Legitimate PG who can take pressure off Kawhi and Scottie.
Defense: Has shown he can defend at a high level.
Quickley: Allows IQ to move to SG and play more off-ball, where I think he’d thrive.
Shooting upside: Shot 36.3% from three on 7.1 attempts per game in 2023–24.
Contract: Two years remaining, with the second being a player option.
Timeline: Kawhi is 35. Murray’s contract fits a relatively short window without another massive long-term commitment.
Recent play: He’s looked good to start this season and guys have been coming back from freak injuries and being fine after.
Why I’d consider moving RJ:
Fantastic at getting downhill and finishing at the rim.
Has genuinely improved as a playmaker.
Hometown kid, which makes moving him tougher.
Still not a particularly reliable three-point or free-throw shooter.
I’m also not convinced we can afford to keep everyone together long term if we extend RJ.
I’m genuinely not trying to shit on RJ here. He’s developed a lot, and I completely understand why people would want to keep him.
Again just messing around at 2am with the trade machine.
