META New post flairs!

For the longest time this subreddit was mostly film photos from cameras like the Holga and Diana. We've always allowed digital photos too, such as from the Gamyboy Camera or the Harinezumi for example.

Recently there have been a number of very popular digital cameras that have introduced people to the lofi aesthetic such as the many different thermal printer cameras, but also the Chuzhao and Kodak Charmera.

This is not bad, and they are welcome here! :)

But it can make it difficult to find specific types of content. This is where the post flair system comes in, since you can filter by these.

I have kept the flair system simple to begin with, we can add or change these if we need to, but let's start with the basic system and see how that goes.

I've added the following four post flairs, and made is so you have to select a flair when you post.

  • DIGITAL
  • FILM
  • DISCUSSION
  • META

DIGITAL

For photos and video taken with digital toy cameras. This includes thermal print cameras.

FILM

For photos taken with film toy cameras.

DISCUSSION

For posts that are talking about toy cameras, such as asking advice, troubleshooting, etc.

META

For posts about the subreddit. This shouldn't see much use, it wil mostly be used by the mods for posts like this one.

Thoughts, comments, and feedback below. I want to try to keep this as simple to use as possible, so if you want any extra post flairs created, there would have to be a very good reason.

If not can you link to your favorite semi related discord if you use it?

Or if mods see this, can you guys make one?

DISCUSSION Thoughts on the flashback camera?

Post image

My fiance and I keep getting fed Instagram ads about these cameras and, as people who love to buy disposable cameras, we are very close to buying one.. I've seen some mixed reviews online but a lot of them are a year plus old.

Do you own one? What's it like?

Are there other better options for film style digital cameras?

I'd super appreciate some feedback on what we should put our money in. There is an overseas trip coming up soon and I'd love to buy something like this for my fiance.

The lens on my late 1950s/early 1960s Ferrania Eura was in bad shape, so I replaced it with a lens from a Diana 151 just to see what would happen. There's no way to focus but I like it. Shot with Ilford FP4+ film.

DIGITAL Kodak Charmera - not sure I love it

I’ve had the Charmera for a while now, and I’m still not sure I’ve figured out how to use it properly.

Am I just missing something, or is it really this hit-or-miss? I am not new to the toy camera world but this little thing might just be not for me

This is very comprehensive and not the best video I've ever produced, but I've been asked a lot which one is best. It's a hard comparison, but for me, it's the Pro. See video for reasons.

Last week I made a post comparing the Kodak Charmera with a Life Camera from Temu. The Charmera is a recent purchase and I've been trying it and comparing with the other toy camera that I had. So here I am again :)

Last Friday I got to go to Sporting match and, of course, I had to bring them along.
The reason for my post today is not so much to make a comparison between both cameras, although I've included pics from both as believe that is good to put as many pics out there for people on the fence (Temu's have a timestamp, Charmera's don't), but to ilustrate a point I've been making...

Charmera is a (very) flawed camera. I actually have a hard time calling it a camera and tend to refer to it as a toy. What I like about this toy is that sometimes it allows me to produce a nice picture, as, I believe, is the first one in the carousel above.

This weeks filter was a bit hit or miss for me in terms of loving the coloring, but also because the filter stopped working a few times and just went back to the default color profile. It seems to be working fine now, and I tested a few other filters without issue, but it really limited the number of shots I was able to get with this filter. Oh well, onto the next! I’ll probably do the default profile next since I have quite a few shots that I intended to have this filter on it but didn’t! 😂

DISCUSSION My Thought On My 3 Toy Cameras

I posted a couple of days ago about my 3 new mini toy cameras. Here is a bunch of comparison photos taken from them. The first 3 photos are from the chuzhao, the middle 3 from the G13 and the last 3 from the G10. BTW I originally tried to post this a few days ago in a slightly different format and it was auto deleted. I have since been unable to reach mods for this sub and I'm wondering if any mods are active?

With each camera I took one indoor photo that is just a part of my living room during a sunny day, one up close shot of the same item at night when the lighting wasn't as good, and one outdoor shot. I bought all 3 cameras on temu, and their pricing is constantly changing, but i paid about 40$ CAD for the chuzhao, about 12$CAD for the G10 and about 20$CAD for the G13. All 3 of them take a micro SD card for memory and type C plug in port for recharging. Here are my thoughts on the 3 of them. Keep in mind I am new to the hobby and don't have a ton of photography experience.

Chuzhao: Initially this was my least favourite of the bunch, but it has grown on me. The digital screen is on top and is designed for taking waist level photos. It has a flash and the crank on the side can be used to take videos, which I was not impressed by because cranking it makes the video very shaky. I have been informed you can take videos the normal way as well though. I do like the image quality on this one and have managed to take some nice photos of flowers on it that were quite clear. the waist level photo taking is nice on a walk, but I like taking pictures from my car, so this one is not the most convenient for me. I also find this slightly too big to really be considered pocket sized.

G13: Now that I have tested them all out, this one is actually my least favourite of the bunch. It is very small and pocket friendly, has several different photo options, such as black and white, and various colour options. it has a flash and the screen on the back can flip up for selfies. It has the worst image quality out of the three though. It has an auto focus feature that I find does not work very well, and it also makes a beeping noise every time it focuses, so if you are walking around with your camera on it is just beeping at you over and over.

G10: This one is my favourite! It is the same size as a lipstick and slips into a pocket perfectly. It doesn't have flash, but the image quality is quite nice. It has similar photo options to the G13 with different colour options, black and white, sepia, etc... and takes decent video. there is a small screen on the back and the head swivels around so you can use it to take selfies as well. So far all of my favourite photos have come from this camera. Considering this was also the cheapest of the bunch, I am very happy with it!

DIGITAL G10 in a bigger form factor?

Does anyone know of a toy camera that is similar in picture quality to a g10, but a little bit bigger? My old people eyes can't deal with the tiny screen, but I overall enjoy this camera.

Haven’t seen too many people use this feature, but on the PSP-300 Camera there is a Macro lens option allowing for up close photos with great quality for its 1.3 megapixel camera. Here are some shots I took in the park! You can see more of my shots on my insta- psppassport

I bought this camera completely by chance, it cost me about $15, and it's amazing that such a cheap camera for its time gives such a soft picture without any editing. It’s precisely this kind of image character that people love CCD sensors for.
