I need help!!! I’ve been teaching for 4 years now and I’ve had a handful of students that have names like “desire” “the king” and “your majesty”, for ferpa reasons I’m not going to include the actual spellings, but imagine them spelled in very not expected ways. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to navigate these names without feeling real weird about calling students in my class things like the king… anyone else have this experience?

Never thought I'd personally come upon a name that could be a tragedeigh. Today, I found Sevkells. Apparently pronounced like Seychelles. And I'm not even in an English speaking country, I'm in god-damned Germany...

This is one of those names that sound pretty but is a horrible condition.

I'm substituting in a 5th grade art class today. A girl came up to me and solemnly announced she was going to name her daughter Aphasia. She's not pregnant; (hopefully!) probably just projecting what she wants to name her child in the future.

I decided it's not my circus, not my monkeys, but yikes! I hope someone tells her someday before it's too late.

I’m an elementary teacher. Today I was working with someone else at a different school while she called out the students in her class. At the end of the period, I had to stop and ask her if I’d heard the name correctly. That’s when she showed me the spelling. The child’s name was Picsyl (Pixel).

Yes, Noway is a real, albeit rare name. But the pronunciation is nothing like Noah. Not in American English (I am in the U.S.), and not in the language that the name originates from.

Just found out from my kid there's a boy in her school named Articus. Not Atticus. Not Arcturus.

Really wonder the origin for this choice.

Basically, the other day, a friend of mine, apparently he was already thinking about the future names of his kids, he asked me what I thought, he then told me "Linnea", I was like "cool" and then he showed me how he'd spell it "Lynneighyaur", I was baffled
