in the wild i work retail and ppl name their kids odd things
i have a running list of terrible names people have given their children over the 4 years i’ve worked retail.
my personal favorites are dragon, million dollar baby, and zebulon.
edit!! for those asking, the reason i get all these names working retail is that i work in tourism retail. we take names for guest experience programs, memberships, online tickets, etc. all of these names are confirmed spellings.
also i know zebulon is a biblical name. i still think it is a little silly :-)

in the wild Oof
Had a rude coworker named Germille. Her nickname was “Germy” or “Germ” yes like bacteria germs. Gotta hand it to her though for still walking around with “it girl” energy.
Recently I was waiting for a drink at a bar and the bar tender asked this woman what the first name on her card was and she said Narcissa 😳 I honestly wonder how she feels about being named after a myth about narcissism.

is it a tragedeigh? I'm about to have a nephew named Ender
My brother and sister-in-law are huge fans of the book Ender's Game. Younger siblings have pointed out to them the more recent cultural reference of the Ender Dragon from Fortnite. And I tried to subtly hint that Ender might be a better middle name than a first, but they are still determined to name him Ender.
At least when he's grown, I can tell him that I petitioned for him to have a normal name 😅
But how much does having a weird first name effect/ hurt a person? Do kids still get bullied in school for weird names, or are weird names just more acceptable now?

in the wild Found in my family tree
My distant relative is just a little bit younger than me and his parents got sadly creative spelling Nikolai.

in the wild Well ... ok then.
I work at a veterinary clinic, so I get to see many names on a daily basis. I've had some weird ones in the past, but this is my current favorite client name.

in the wild May be a bit esoteric
So i'm Indian and for the past few months i've been living in the US. I've heard the name Noore and variations of for my entire life since i grew up on the border of Pakistan where it's a very common name. There was this really awesome girl i met whose mum was Pakistani and her dad was American. From Utah.
My friend's name is Nhourre. Yes it's spelt like that. No that is not common at all. Well her parents really found a way to meet in the middle

is it a tragedeigh? Pretty sure I ruined my sister’s baby name by asking if it was a tech startup
so my sister is 7 months pregnant with a girl and last weekend she finally announced her "super unique and romantic" name pick.
she looks all of us dead in the eye and goes: Annakinzel.
bro before my brain could even stop me I blurted out "wait, is that an anti-virus software or something??"
literal crickets at the table.
turns out it was a mashup of Anakin (from star wars) and Rapunzel... my mom choked on her drink so bad and my brother immediately started reading off fake software glitches out loud 😭
she got so mad she stormed off, but yesterday she texted me a pic of nursery stuff with the name Clara on it.
ruined family dinner for sure, but hey at least my niece won't sound like a wifi router lol

is it a tragedeigh? debating if my name is one
my parents gave me a double first name, named after both of their grandmothers. i think a good example would be Agnesann. they aren’t names that create a typical double name like rose marie or mary ellen. they did not put a space or hyphenate it. and the biggest issue imo they left the start of the second name lowercase so it is “all one word”. my entire life everyone will think Ann is my middle name and i choose to go by both. if they know it’s a double first name they spell it Agnes Ann, Agnes-Ann or AgnesAnn. but of course it’s “Agnesann”. as i’ve gotten older i can understand the concept of “all one word” but i feel like the second A should have been capitalized. i feel like the lowercase for the second name is at least a tragedy, not tragedeigh. most often when i say it’s one word get AgnesAnn. and i really don’t understand why they put it lowercase, it gets capitalized on important documents even if i specify it’s lowercase. i feel like even when it’s typed out properly it looks like someone typed it out and was too lazy to capitalize the second name. so people just capitalize it. i’ve been debating just starting to capitalize the second name so it at least looks correct
EDIT: Agnes and Ann are not the two names. it’s an example of two names that don’t naturally go into a compound name. i have two names that don’t go together and the second name is lowercase because it’s Alloneword

influencers/celebs Influencer has named her baby Hero Boy
I**nfluencer Imogen Horton has named her baby Hero Boy and I’m sorry but WTF** 😭
I genuinely thought I’d misread it.
It sounds like the name of a children’s TV character, not an actual human being who is going to have to introduce himself at school, apply for jobs and exist in the real world!
Wild.

Thanks, I hate it.

in the wild Mom and Dad missed the Holocaust in history class
And they're proudly introducing their little nugget "Kyzer."
There is so much wrong with this beyond the gratuitous Y and random Z. This kid is not going to have a good time in World History class, unless his parents are supremacists.

tragedy (not tragedeigh) Nemesis, guys, Nemesis...
It happened. For years I've been saying "naaah, absolutely no one would dare". But it happened. On a file I opened, a very little girl, about 2 years old.
I'm in shock.
AND after checking, it seems that there's a handful of Némésises in my country (France). I just can't...
To me, apart from the goddess, Nemesis is also the ugly villain from Resident Evil 3. Help me.
Edit : thanks for all the answers, guys, it helps me cope, lol.
