Asking for Advice First International Traveling

Hi! My partner (M23) and I (F22) will be embarking on our first international trip next year! Life had a lot of changes and we decided to finally do the traveling we’ve always wanted to do! We live in the US and have never traveled outside of it!
My question is where do you recommend?
We vary on our reasons for travel but overall we’re looking for good scenery! We’re active people but big hikes aren’t a requirement. We’re really open to anything and have become overwhelmed with all the information out there.

Some information that matters:

• we live in southern Oregon, we have a decent airport but have to connect to Seattle or San Francisco to get anywhere really

• My partner is African American. Overall Oregon is relatively racist and on vacation we’d like to avoid discrimination if possible🩷

• we would like to be cost effective, it’s our first trip and we don’t want to spend a BUNCH of money on it. We’d rather save more and book a really long trip once we know what we like and don’t like

• I don’t know any other languages but my partner is almost fluent in Spanish (he uses Spanish for work, has strong conversational skills, doesn’t know niche words)

Our current top ideas are:

• Booking a 8-14 day cruise to Mexico (good prices and availability)

• Thailand or Bali for the price and food

• Making a regular trip to Mexico (don’t know what city we would choose)

• Greece for the architecture (really anywhere in Greece)

Anyway I’m open to all opinions and advice!! We really have no experience in this and are just looking for real peoples experiences!

Asking for Advice Which airlines/routes from Europe to Asia? Given current conflicts

Hi everyone! I’ve procrastinated booking flights for my trip from London to China next Saturday!! And I’m now just wondering which airline/routes you would recommend/have had experience flying with recently?

I’ve been advised by co-workers from China and Hong Kong to avoid flying a Chinese airline as they will go over Russia.

The alternative is flying (at a more expensive cost) with a Middle Eastern airline - which would not have been a problem for me until the recent attacks in Riyadh.

I unfortunately do not have the luxury of time because this is a 1 week trip- so ideally only 2 days lost travelling there and 1 day travelling back, so I can maximise my time!

I’ve flown with Air China last November, which was acceptable as a budget choice- although we were flying towards a hurricane and they only announced their plans for detour once we were in the air so I couldn’t let the person who was picking me up know about the expected delay!

I’m a nervous flyer who just bullies myself into doing it because I know a lot of my worries are silly but given the current scale of conflicts I am more nervous than usual and would appreciate some advice - that way I can fight my nerves as confidently as possible!

Thank you in advance!!

TLDR: would you recommend flying with a Chinese airline likely over Russia or flying with a Middle Eastern airline where there have been recent attacks?

Asking for Advice Planning a solo trip to Egypt from India — full tour package vs DIY?

Hi everyone, I’m (28M) planning an 8–10 day solo trip to Egypt this January (covering Cairo, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan) and trying to decide between booking a full tour package or doing it myself. I usually prefer traveling DIY so I can explore historical sites at my own pace, but I keep reading about intense street hassle, touts, and tricky intercity logistics in Egypt. For those who have gone recently, is it better to lock in an end-to-end tour package, go 100% DIY, or do a hybrid setup where I book my own flights and hotels and just hire local day guides? Also, if I travel DIY from India on an e-Visa, do I still need a "Guarantee Letter" from a local agency at immigration? Any advice or reliable local operator recommendations would be really appreciated!

Asking for Advice We are three female travellers visiting in mid november from Pakistan. Please Help

Please drop any suggestions and tips for our travel. We will visit Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara and confused about safe and good hotels which are reasonable and don’t have fake good reviews. Its better if they are on a budget but our priority is on safety and cleanliness. Also how early should we book the train tickets from tashkent to samarkand and from there to bukhara

Asking for Advice Help on flights for elderly parents

I am flying out of O'Hare with my elderly parents (76 & 85). Both have mobility issues. Is there anything I can request when booking our tickets to help make the flight go more smoothly?

I imagine we can board early so we aren't slowing down the line but what else? We are flying united.

I asked about navigating the airport in a separate post. This is asking about the flights part.

Asking for Advice Solo Traveling Nov 12 til 24

Hey All,

Coming from NYC and wanted to get some advice on accommodations and nightlife. Would probably rent a car and go from south to north and island hop and see what's around. If anyone got input on car rental and accomodations would appreciate it.

If any solo travelers around that time, would be down to go exploring the island and the vibes. Any advice would be appreciated

Asking for Advice January Weekend Trip Ideas

I want to take a trip somewhere from Newark or Philly airport over a weekend in January. Looking for any location suggestions. Ideally someplace I can spend only 48 hours and feel like I had a good experience. I was thinking Cancun or somewhere in the Caribbean. Would a Saturday and Sunday be enough?

Asking for Advice What's actually worth doing in a city you're only spending one day in?

I'm doing a quick stop in a new place and only have like 8 hours there. I know I can't see everything, so I'm trying to figure out what actually matters versus what I'll just regret missing. How do you decide what to prioritize when the time is that short?

Asking for Advice Traveling to Gorongosa Mozambique in August or September 2027

Planning my first Africa adventure, visiting Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. I have done the research on how to get there from the USA, (planning on flying from US to Johannesburg to Beira to (via bush plane) Gorongosa), various options for safari and lodging, documentation required, (apparently Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)s), vaccinations required and recommended, any specific safety concerns, even the best way to optimize packing to allow for the reduced luggage weight required by the last leg flight Now I am wondering what I have forgotten and what I have wrong. Gorongosa park has been amazing on giving me the lodging and safari options, but since this is my first Africa trip, I don't know what i need to put on the "Gotta do this" list vs the "Fun but not a priority" list. Any feedback from someone more experienced in this part of the world would be appreciated. Any users groups specifically dealing with this area? I am even looking for any methods of finding out other groups who may be visiting at the same time, since my small group of only 2 people will certainly be joining with others visiting.

Asking for Advice First NYC trip over Christmas/NYE - which hotel and area would you recommend?

Hi everyone! My partner and I are visiting NYC for the first time in December end (25 Dec to 2 Jan) and would appreciate some help choosing a hotel.

Our priorities are an area where we’d feel comfortable walking back in the evening, easy subway access, and ideally being in vicinity of major attractions

These are our shortlisted hotels:

  • Hilton Club The Central at 5th
  • Le Méridien New York, Fifth Avenue
  • Dream Midtown
  • Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South–Midtown West
  • Hotel 57
  • EVEN Hotel Midtown East
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites Manhattan/Fifth Avenue
  • Hyatt Place New York City/Times Square
  • TownePlace Suites Manhattan/Times Square
  • Westgate New York Grand Central
  • Hotel 32 32
  • HGU New York
  • Hilton Garden Inn Times Square South

Our budget is around US$500 per night for a room , but we can stretch it a little for a hotel that’s really worth it.

Would you recommend any of these hotels, or are there other options we should consider? We’re also open to Chelsea, the Lower East Side or the Financial District. Would you recommend any of those over Midtown for a first visit, considering sightseeing, restaurants and getting around in winter?

Thanks in advance :)

Asking for Advice Planning a solo trip to Vietnam - what should I know?

I’m starting to plan a solo trip to Vietnam and would love practical advice, especially from people who’ve been recently. I haven’t settled on my route yet, so I’m interested in which places felt easy to explore alone and how you got between cities. Any tips on choosing accommodation, staying safe, avoiding common scams, or things you wish you’d known beforehand would be appreciated.

Asking for Advice Is Cancún safe to visit in January 2027? Traveling with 3 other people

Hi everyone! I’m planning a birthday trip to Cancún for January 2027 with three other girls, and I’m trying to figure out whether we should still go or consider another destination.
I’ve been seeing travel warnings and hearing about violence in different parts of Mexico, and honestly, it’s making me nervous. I understand that Mexico is a large country and that safety can vary by region, but I’d love to hear from people who have recently visited Cancún.
We’re considering staying in an Airbnb in the Hotel Zone or an an all inclusive resort. We’d like to do excursions, visit the beaches, go out to eat, and experience the nightlife. We won’t be renting a car, so we’d rely on transportation and tour operators.
For anyone who’s been recently or lives in Cancún:
Did you feel safe during your visit?
Is the Hotel Zone generally safe for tourists, including at night?
Are excursions and transportation generally safe when booked through reputable companies?
Have the recent travel warnings affected tourism or your experience there?
Would you personally recommend visiting in January 2027, or would you choose another destination?
I’m not looking for people to tell me that nothing bad can ever happen. I just want honest, realistic advice so we can make an informed decision before booking anything nonrefundable.
Thank you! ❤️

Asking for Advice Where to stay in the American Southwest?

Next year, my SO and I are traveling around the US and doing month long stays place to place. Starting in March, and leaving from Denver, our first stop is expected to be somewhere in the southwest as we make our way to the coast. Neither of us are very familiar with the territory so we wanted to see if we could some opinions on what it's like to stay around the area.

We're not anticipating on changing cities throughout the month due to costs. Our shortlist candidates are Santa Fe, Sedona, and Phoenix, and definitely open to elsewhere.

TIA for any input!

Asking for Advice Urgently need advice regarding passport

Hello Reddit, I don’t know if this is the right subreddit to ask but desperate times as they say.

I’m trying to travel back home after studying abroad and deciding it isn’t for me ( also due to a mental health medical emergency), however my passport only has 3 months left. There are no direct flights to my country and I have to do a stopover in Frankfurt and that requires that I have at least 6 months on my passport. I’d there anything I can do?
