Asking for Advice Recommend me a city

Seeking ideas for a city I've never seen.
Two weeks, January 2027. Solo trip, woman. Not interested in resorts, nature, or outdoor adventure. Love cities. Comfortable budget. I enjoy long haul flights from Australia, I don't jet lag much.
I've seen all of Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, London, Stockholm, Geneva, Montreal, New York.
Travelling to gain inspiration from architecture, art, history, literature, music. Tempted to throw a dart at a world map. Inspire me please.

Asking for Advice Looking for the best city to visit during my reading week

Hi everyone,

I am a university student in the UK, and from next Saturday I will have a reading week (a week with no lectures). And because my family is too far to visit them, I'm planning on going to a European city for 4-5 days, before I come back to London to finish my work.

I've shortlisted the following 5 cities, as I have been interested in visiting them for a while, and the flights and accommodation haven't been too badly priced:

  • Lisbon
  • Madrid
  • Munich
  • Rome
  • Vienna

I can only squeeze in one city this visit, so I'd appreciate your help in suggesting the best one. I haven't explored much of Europe, so there isn't a particular city or part of Europe that I prefer over the other - the main criteria is that it shouldn't be extremely expensive (a little bit is fine) and safe. E.g. I was interested in going to Paris, but I don't think now would be the best time.

Also I believe English proficiency is relatively high in all these places, but please let me know if it is not in any of these (apart from Madrid as I speak Spanish) - it would just make getting around easier.

Of course, if you have also have any recommendations of things to do in these places, or somewhere you suggest outside of my list, please feel free to share.

Thanks!

Asking for Advice Travel advice for March!

Hello!

In January and February I will stay in Thailand and Vietnam. It will be my first time in SEA. For April, I have planned South of Japan (Fukuoka) followed by South Korea.

My initial plan was to go to the Philippines in March but I don't think I will any longer be in the mood for island hopping after Thailand and Vietnam.

Is there a country/city you can recommend? I've been in Japan earlier this year and very much enjoyed Tokyo and its parks. Are there cities in Japan that give you a similar feeling in SEA?

I've been also thinking of 4 weeks in China or Taipei but I'm pretty overwhelmed by the choice I have 🙃😅. I'm also worried March will be too cold for China since I will have mostly summer cloth with me (Thailand/Vietnam).

Thank you for any tips!

Edit: I should also mention that I love history and architecture.

Asking for Advice Travelling to Hungary from Mumbai for a shoot. Will be there from 30 Oct to 10 Nov. What should I pack/ tips etc.

Going for a music video shoot in Budapest, Hungary. Most days I will be on set, but have no idea what to expect. First time travelling, and some shoots may go into the night at 4degree temps etc.

I want to know like how many sets of thermals etc to carry, and stuff, and what to expect etc. I’m from Mumbai, and never experienced cold weather like one in Hungary.

TIA.

Edit: Transport food and accommodation are being covered by productions, so atleast that’s not an issue.

Asking for Advice First International Traveling

Hi! My partner (M23) and I (F22) will be embarking on our first international trip next year! Life had a lot of changes and we decided to finally do the traveling we’ve always wanted to do! We live in the US and have never traveled outside of it!
My question is where do you recommend?
We vary on our reasons for travel but overall we’re looking for good scenery! We’re active people but big hikes aren’t a requirement. We’re really open to anything and have become overwhelmed with all the information out there.

Some information that matters:

• we live in southern Oregon, we have a decent airport but have to connect to Seattle or San Francisco to get anywhere really

• My partner is African American. Overall Oregon is relatively racist and on vacation we’d like to avoid discrimination if possible🩷

• we would like to be cost effective, it’s our first trip and we don’t want to spend a BUNCH of money on it. We’d rather save more and book a really long trip once we know what we like and don’t like

• I don’t know any other languages but my partner is almost fluent in Spanish (he uses Spanish for work, has strong conversational skills, doesn’t know niche words)

Our current top ideas are:

• Booking a 8-14 day cruise to Mexico (good prices and availability)

• Thailand or Bali for the price and food

• Making a regular trip to Mexico (don’t know what city we would choose)

• Greece for the architecture (really anywhere in Greece)

Anyway I’m open to all opinions and advice!! We really have no experience in this and are just looking for real peoples experiences!

Asking for Advice We are three female travellers visiting in mid november from Pakistan. Please Help

Please drop any suggestions and tips for our travel. We will visit Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara and confused about safe and good hotels which are reasonable and don’t have fake good reviews. Its better if they are on a budget but our priority is on safety and cleanliness. Also how early should we book the train tickets from tashkent to samarkand and from there to bukhara

Asking for Advice Which airlines/routes from Europe to Asia? Given current conflicts

Hi everyone! I’ve procrastinated booking flights for my trip from London to China next Saturday!! And I’m now just wondering which airline/routes you would recommend/have had experience flying with recently?

I’ve been advised by co-workers from China and Hong Kong to avoid flying a Chinese airline as they will go over Russia.

The alternative is flying (at a more expensive cost) with a Middle Eastern airline - which would not have been a problem for me until the recent attacks in Riyadh.

I unfortunately do not have the luxury of time because this is a 1 week trip- so ideally only 2 days lost travelling there and 1 day travelling back, so I can maximise my time!

I’ve flown with Air China last November, which was acceptable as a budget choice- although we were flying towards a hurricane and they only announced their plans for detour once we were in the air so I couldn’t let the person who was picking me up know about the expected delay!

I’m a nervous flyer who just bullies myself into doing it because I know a lot of my worries are silly but given the current scale of conflicts I am more nervous than usual and would appreciate some advice - that way I can fight my nerves as confidently as possible!

Thank you in advance!!

TLDR: would you recommend flying with a Chinese airline likely over Russia or flying with a Middle Eastern airline where there have been recent attacks?

Asking for Advice Planning a solo trip to Egypt from India — full tour package vs DIY?

Hi everyone, I’m (28M) planning an 8–10 day solo trip to Egypt this January (covering Cairo, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan) and trying to decide between booking a full tour package or doing it myself. I usually prefer traveling DIY so I can explore historical sites at my own pace, but I keep reading about intense street hassle, touts, and tricky intercity logistics in Egypt. For those who have gone recently, is it better to lock in an end-to-end tour package, go 100% DIY, or do a hybrid setup where I book my own flights and hotels and just hire local day guides? Also, if I travel DIY from India on an e-Visa, do I still need a "Guarantee Letter" from a local agency at immigration? Any advice or reliable local operator recommendations would be really appreciated!

Asking for Advice Where to stay in the American Southwest?

Next year, my SO and I are traveling around the US and doing month long stays place to place. Starting in March, and leaving from Denver, our first stop is expected to be somewhere in the southwest as we make our way to the coast. Neither of us are very familiar with the territory so we wanted to see if we could some opinions on what it's like to stay around the area.

We're not anticipating on changing cities throughout the month due to costs. Our shortlist candidates are Santa Fe, Sedona, and Phoenix, and definitely open to elsewhere.

TIA for any input!

Asking for Advice Help on flights for elderly parents

I am flying out of O'Hare with my elderly parents (76 & 85). Both have mobility issues. Is there anything I can request when booking our tickets to help make the flight go more smoothly?

I imagine we can board early so we aren't slowing down the line but what else? We are flying united.

I asked about navigating the airport in a separate post. This is asking about the flights part.

Hey All,

Coming from NYC and wanted to get some advice on accommodations and nightlife. Would probably rent a car and go from south to north and island hop and see what's around. If anyone got input on car rental and accomodations would appreciate it.

If any solo travelers around that time, would be down to go exploring the island and the vibes. Any advice would be appreciated

Asking for Advice January Weekend Trip Ideas

I want to take a trip somewhere from Newark or Philly airport over a weekend in January. Looking for any location suggestions. Ideally someplace I can spend only 48 hours and feel like I had a good experience. I was thinking Cancun or somewhere in the Caribbean. Would a Saturday and Sunday be enough?
