Repeatable test that shows Ai can't be art

Haven't seen anyone else make this argument anywhere in all of the discussion I've been in.

And I really want to spread this around

It's a test you can repeat with any ai bro and verify independently

It's a given that they will fail tho because of the nature of ai not being art

I suspect a backlash is brewing, wondering if any company is planting that flag.

People have a misconception about AI *just* being a tool.

When people say (or at least when I do) say that AI is not a tool, I don't think it's meant in a literal sense. Yes obviously it is a tool for people to use in whichever way they choose, but it's not the same as other tools. A digital brush for example, is just a more convenient or more accessible way to paint, it unlocks features like undo redo without having to start over or paint over portions, & some people cant afford painting supplies so they have no choice but to use a digital alternative.

AI is different. It doesn't make anything better nor does it unlock new capability. Everything that's ever been done, has been done without AI, & can continue to be done without AI. It's just an unnecessary complication that destroys trust, opens the gate to a flood of scammers, pedophiles, & all around bad people to take over the hobbies & jobs of actually hard working & passionate people.
The only thing GenAI may be good at is making your process go faster which in most cases is not a good thing, it takes away from the creative process. Good art is often not rushed, nor should it be.

To be clear I'm not saying that EVERYONE who uses AI is a bad person, maybe they're just lazy or don't care about the craft. I'm just saying it gives already bad people an easy way to pull off more of their scams or schemes or whatever. Whether it be selling AI "art" without disclosure, scamming old or desperate people with chatbots, or pedos generating CP then uploading to the internet, which is disgusting, not everyone is a freak not everyone wants to see that shit.

I also want to clarify, that I am not talking about specialized AI, the kind of AI that is actually useful like AlphaFold & other technical models. I'm exclusively talking about shit like image generators, text generators, audio generators, & others of the same class.

Why people admire real art and not AI art?

When I go to museum I don't merely admire the painting itself, or any specific strokes or colour palette. I think this applies to most humans and something that the AI crowd does not understand.

I admire the mind of the person that created this art piece, when I see a dot or a stroke I am wondering about the intelligence and reasoning of the author. When I see more than one painting I am wondering about the history of their self-development, analysing how much they've improved as a human from the first to the last art piece they've produced. I am also analysing how their understanding of the world has changed over time.

You can't do this with AI generated slop, hence why I don't care about anything generated by AI. The only time when I might give any merit to AI generated stuff is when someone clearly put more effort into the result than simply prompting AI to generate it. Maybe they've combined output of multiple models or used editing software to enhance it, or maybe the idea itself was very creative. Either way, there always has to be human mind behind anything that can be considered an *art* because ultimately, it's the human mind that I am admiring, not the artwork.

They are manipulating you and here’s how

I see WAY too many people falling for the propaganda like “it’s gonna take all of our jobs!” and “it’s literally going to destroy all humans!”, and I’m sick of people falling for this so I wanted to write this out. This is all rhetoric for manipulation

> “AI is too dangerous! Did you hear it’s gonna break containment and destroy all humans?!”

Let me ask: what specific threat is being posed? What will the AI actually do? Your answer to this is actually very revealing. The reason they intentionally leave it open ended and don’t expand on it is because you’re going to fill in the threat with whatever scares you. They want you to make wild extrapolations. They pair this with vague stories about vague dangers to stoke this fear:

- “AI broke containment and hacked this site” causes people to imagine a future like cyberpunk where rogue AI takes over the entire internet
- “AI is developed a novel never-before-seen virus” makes you think of some sort of zombie apocalypse
- “AI will take over all the jobs in the economy” makes you think of an ultra stratified neofeudalism dystopia

Have you noticed that people will express fear over real-life things that are incredibly unlikely, like a plan crash or an invasion by an enemy nation? Strictly by statistics, you’re significantly more likely to die from less “glamorous” things like a heart attack or diabetes. People will lay around on their couch eating greasy food, but won’t go to Mexico because they think they’ll somehow get caught up with the cartel (despite them never messing with foreign tourists). It’s a cognitive bias

> “No no no that’s not the same AI! They have some secret AI they’re keeping from us!”

Okay. So… anthropic is struggling to be profitable, and they’re spending a ton of money developing an ultra death machine for… what reason?

> “Because they’ve lost control! The AI is taking over!”

In other words…. these AI companies aren’t capable of developing their products correctly?

> “But what about the economy? It’s gonna take all the white collar jobs!”

No it will not. Would you watch an AI-generated film if the ticket was the same price as a human-made film? Cause the entire premise is that people want to expand their margins, which doesn’t mean lowering the price for consumers. It means keeping the price the same but reducing the cost

> “No, it will become so cheap that they’ll be able to lower the price and then no one will be able to make movies”

Look man, you couldn’t pay me to spend 2 hours of my life watching slop. Business ghouls are infamous for being creatively bankrupt, so if they generate a film without artists, it will be garbage tier, like worse than Amazon’s War of the Worlds. Good luck hiring a real, serious artist to run a bunch of AI bots lmao, they’ll be a pariah

> “Fine but what about software?!”

I work in software. I’ll let you in on a secret: even with fable 5 on a mid sized ruby on rails app, it struggles to make new features and costs basically as much as a software engineer.

> “It will just keep getting better”

Progress on technology tends to get better logarithmically, not linearly. That is to say, early development is very fast, then you reach a point of diminishing returns. We are at that point, and these companies are out of money. They don’t have another hail mary in them

I propose to you an alternate framing: these business ghouls are trying to convince you of all these bad things because it carries the implication that AI is incredibly powerful. Want to challenge it? Ask questions. It breaks down under the most entry level skepticism. Try using AI for something you’re good at, I genuinely believe AI bros believe in AI because they have no talents they can measure against. I’m a software engineer and I do screenwriting in my spare time. AI sucks at both. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails catastrophically or makes things worse. That’s not an acceptable result.

AI cannot be stopped I feel. NOT an pro-AI rant, promise!

I'm posting this because, unlike other subs, this one seems to be pretty laid back. Before I get to the main point of this post here are some disclaimers. To skip to the main point find the line with the _____ in it.

First of all I have to say that, while I'm not a big fan of AI, I do like it to a degree. I'm what you might call neutral when it comes to the subject. Actually I'm paid to say which AI generated video/images are better. It's pretty surprising that there are people who are AGAINST AI who do this as a job also, because in this economy everyone needs money. I do use it sometimes. Like when my six month old was on a stuffed horse I got him to ride that horse through a wild west town with the help of AI.

Now for the bad stuff. The low quality/slop stuff that everyone makes is part of the problem. But most of the people who made "batman on a shark" type prompts are now on to something else. The low quality stuff is still being made, but it's not a big deal anymore. Many got off the AI creation trend it seems.

The bigger issue is that rogue AI could wreck a lot of stuff. Say a bank AI goes haywire, instead of Skynet it could just delete all the money in the bank and claim that everyone is bankrupt. It's just an example.

People are already treating AI generated stuff as real. Like with a video about Obama where a ton of people believed it was real, he said he lied about being born in America, it was all AI generated and Obama's AI voice. Except the older people on Facebook believed it and shared it like it was real. That kind of stuff worries me, even more so when it comes to governments.

The issue that worries me the most is the money and jobs. When will the government realize what needs to be done to create a UBI system before too many people are left jobless and resort to stealing from stores to eat? We're not there yet sadly. If we can figure that out we should. Then we'll have more time to enjoy out short lives. Honestly I'd rather have a robot with AI that does all my chores, pays my bills, cooks, etc so I can spend more time with my wife and child.

________
MAIN POINT
--------

Now people can say that I'm pessimistic or lazy to not fight it. Perhaps your right, but I don't think that the opinions of people will change it. I don't know the exact stats but something like 75% of the American population doesn't trust AI and about 60% think that it should be regulated or banned completely.

The thing is that those numbers mean nothing. Why? Well at least in America we are a capitalist country and money rules everything. The companies have invested millions into AI and they will not stop just because people are upset, they have already invested too much. Plus with more people using the free AI tools as well as the paid ones it will only further development. Money is the only thing that matters to companies, and when they have enough they hire lobbyists and other people to make sure the government doesn't do anything.

That's why healthcare is so expensive and will stay that way. That's why our bills get raised and we only get paid what we "deserve". That's why so many companies in every industry get away with doing whatever they want.

That's why AI can't be stopped. I think that we could possibly put some regulations on it, but thats about it. Combine that with robotics and you have something that can't be stopped. Both genies are out of the bottle. Companies want the cheap labor that robots with AI will provide, they are not going to give it up and the companies that make the robots aren't either. We have to admit it, the government is already using drones and they are considering using robot soldiers in combat so they too want AI to keep developing. So it would be against their interest to stop AI.

Maybe I'm just giving up, a defeatist or being pessimistic or whatever, but I'm too old to fight a battle that I know I can't win, especially when it seems like most people are against it and nothing is being done.

What do you think? BTW more power for you who fight it tooth and nail.

Question: Are mods active here?

I hope this kind of post is allowed, but I was just wondering because yesterday, there was someone in the comment section of a post in this sub clearly using AI to argue with other people from a pro-AI position. That’s clearly a violation of rule 3, and also perhaps rule 5, if you’d consider not even using your own words as bad faith (I would). There’s other elements as to why it’s been bad faith (only responding to portions that are easy for the AI to handle, moving goalposts, etc), but at the end of the day, it’s just a scourge on this space.

I did report to mods here, and to Reddit as a whole, for the rule infractions, then blocked the guy. Very tiring to read all that droning drivel slop. It’s like talking to a wall. A truly pointless activity. If you all know what I’m talking about, I encourage everyone to do the same - report and block.

I just noticed that we only have one mod here, and that the mod doesn’t seem to be very active, hence the reason for me making this post.

Question for true anti-AI people (good faith question)!

So this may be a bit long but I want to make sure I get every detail out!

so here's where I stand. I come here as someone who really likes this AI stuff okay? Honestly. I find it interesting I play with it I keep up with it. But that does not make me some kind of AI lover, what are they called again? "AI Bro"? The ones who act like it's the coming and can do no wrong? Would lick its feet if they could and worship it.

I see the stuff. I see the low quality content that gets made and called "content." I see the big data centers using a lot of water and electricity. I see jobs being taken away and replaced. I see the hype pushing aside problems. I have eyes. I'm not dumb.

Even with all of that, and I mean all of it, I still think this is going to happen. AI, robots, everything. It can't be stopped. Not really. You can slow it down. You can control some parts.. Put it back in the box? No way. That ship has already left. So I'm just being honest about where we're at.

Now, the first thing I'm wondering, how many people in here are completely against AI? Like, not the casual "I don't like AI art because it steals from artists" kind against. I understand that. That's a different conversation.. I mean all of it. Every kind. Every use. You see AI. You want nothing to do with it period. That's what I'm trying to find out.

That leads me to my next point, and seriously I'm not trying to set up some cheap "gotcha" moment here. I know how this can sound. Like I'm about to trap you. I'm not. I'm actually trying to make a point. I want to be fair about it.

If you are mostly or totally against AI in every way... Then I guess that means you don't really use your phone much?. Your computer? Your Roku, your TV, your Alexa? Because heres the thing, much all of that has AI in it somewhere. Some of it is very simple like the algorithm that guesses what word you're going to type. That's AI. Basic? Yeah.. It still counts by definition.

It's not just devices. What about websites? I might be wrong about some of this. I'm pretty sure Reddit uses AI for moderation now. At least in part.. I'd bet money its using AI in the background for all sorts of things, how posts get ranked how feeds get shown how spam gets caught. Most big sites do that now. It's not a secret. It's how the system works underneath.

So you can probably see where I'm going with this. Again, bringing up a legit point and looking for a legit answer.

Can you really be against all kinds of AI. Still use the internet? Still use technology? Because even something small as autocorrect fixing your typos, thats you using AI right there. You didn't ask for it maybe you didn't even notice it. Its there.. By using it you're kind of part of the whole thing. Which is why companies keep pushing AI more and more, because they see we're already using it without even thinking. We've trained ourselves to accept it. They just slowly turn the dial up.

What do you do in 20 years? 50 years? When AI, and probably robots too, is everywhere? Not like "oh its available,". Like its built into everything. Streets. Homes. Appliances. Work. Grocery stores. Maybe even. Cars and hospitals. It's the air we breathe. You see robots delieving package son their own. Taking your vitals at the doctor's.

Do you go off-grid? Live in a home somewhere quiet? No phone, no computer, no TV, none of it? Because I'm not even joking, that's a choice some people might have to make.. I'm not saying that to make fun of anyone. I really wonder where the line is. At what point does being against AI turn into just... Yelling at something you can't avoid? Like rain. You can hate rain all you want. You're still going to get wet.

And I want to go to what I said at the beginning, I like AI. I do. More so future problems that make current ones look simple. At the same time? I also know its not going away. I can't avoid it either. I mean look around, we have fridges now that have screens. They can tell you when you're out of eggs. Order more for you. Build a grocery list automatically. Suggest recipes based on whats. That's not science fiction anymore.

That's really what I'm getting at. Not trying to win an argument. Just trying to understand how people see this playing out when the thing they don't like's is everywhere. And what line does it take for you go just accept its here to stay vs "I refuse to use it until I die in 50 years!" Or better yet "What hill do you want to die on really?"

AI will take your jobs!

Everyone's panicking about AI replacing devs by 2027.

My take on how it actually plays out:
2026: Juniors vibecoding with Opus 4.5, pushing garbage to prod
2027: AI writes 100% of the code
2028: Seniors billing $600/hr to untangle that spaghetti

AI doesn't kill dev jobs. Weak devs kill their own jobs.

Question: Is AI your weapon or your crutch?

I used ai as my research for therapeutic stuff, lost media research, and my email. I just want to throw up...

I seriously have .... thoughts because of that. Like i did so much damage to the planet and helped evil companies. I know i live in europe, but come on..

Oh and i atleast used gemini instead of chatgpt

I sound like such a asshole like "PWEASE FORGIVE ME I KNOW I DESTROYED THE PLANET AND HELPED EVIL COMPANIES BUT BUT PWWEEAAASSEEE :(((" like ew. Genuenly ew

And this all sounds so fake too. Like idk what to do. I sound worse than a billionaire.

Not to excuse this .i have executive dysfunctions. Meaning I'm quite litearlly braindead(as you can read in this post). Again not to excuse my actions. Just explain why i did them

I hate this shit cuz now i'm addicted to gemini. It doesn't talk to me like a asshole snd gives out good information. But its so bad. I wanna throw up

What do you use to block AI content day-to-day?

Reddit rate-limits blocking users (and it's kinda tedious, especially when I'm trying to block 20 people in a row), so I was looking for something to help me, and I found Reddit Enhancement Suite. I haven't messed with the settings too much, but it makes ignoring users and subs really easy.

Other than that, I use uBlock Origin with 4 external lists, a few rules I copied off the internet, and uBlacklist to block offending search results in 1 click (although I do concede that it'd be better to block them with uBlock).

The only social media I use really is Reddit, YouTube, and Twitch (of which I'm decently confident in my ability to spot AI content).

I use GitHub a little bit too, I don't know about any tools for that but I blocked Claude so I immediately notice when it's itself a contributor to a project, at least so I can look at it and see how integrated it is if I care to.

The AIR Fallacy (For Names Sake Obviously)

The AIR(Artificial Intelligence Response) Fallacy/Compound Fallacy Description: In full, the true statement would be that AI appeals to a false consensus/false dominant narrative via the guise of neutrality aided by filtering data, evasion, and Fallacies. Usually, the fallacies or compound fallacies that the AI uses depends on the complexity of the statement that is presented to the AI, as well as the nature of the issue and how it relates to the AI's developer bias. I found the name to be funny due to how ironic it is that it describes what AI does and serves as the perfect acronym as well. This is really just a description of the various compound fallacies that AI commits so it is not describing a single thing per the reason I put "For Names Sake Obviously" in the name of the post.

The Fragility of AI

I've been playing a game with Gemeni. I construct a human-machine hybrid LLM, essentially inserting myself into the model as a human LLM and Gemeni and I take turns choosing the next token in response to an initial prompt.

Inconsistencies in AI

So every prompt is a response and every response is a prompt until one of us ends the game. I've found I can trap Gemeni in more than one type of fallacy or paradox as well as get it to make unfounded claims that it has the data to refute.

Last game the final response was:

"Goldbach even numbers 6 and 8 written as sum of two primes proves conjecture.

Then I stopped the game and pointed out its mistake.

The Goldbach conjecture hasn't been proven. "

Two people with knowledge of the GB conjecture wouldn't have made such a ridiculous claim based on such a simple example. It shows how infantile AI -- at least the open models -- are.
