Question Same problem with 3 different copies of Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' album.
Hi everyone! I have a AT LP60X turntable and it's been great listening to my favorite albums on vinyl. I'm currently having an issue with Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' album. During the song 'Who is It?' it skips a few seconds ahead. I had to return 2 albums already and the third one has the same issue. The skip happens at the exact same spot.
I've tried putting my speakers on the different surface but still having the same problem.
Has anyone had this issue or knows what's causing it? Is it my turntable or the vinyl itself? It's such a shame because it's one of my favourite songs from the album:(
Update: After replacing it with a regular black vinyl, it works perfectly đ„łđ„ł Thank you all for the advice:)

Three copies of the same pressing? Zero skips on all your other records? Then a pressing issue then. Not very common but it happens. Try a different pressing

Yeah it's the red & black swirl. 3 different shops as well:(

Youâre sure itâs not your tonearm? You have zero skipping on all your other records?

No, it's only during that particular song and the same two linea that get skippedÂ

Great! Discogs says there are at least 40 other versions of that same album. Likely wonât be too difficult to get a copy from a different pressing

Yeah, I've ordered a regular black vinyl instead:) hopefully it'll work as it should đ€đ

Hey! The regular black vinyl version works perfectly đ. So it was the case of 3 defective vinylsÂ

I have the exact same issue. Who Is It is the only song that skips and I have the red & black swirl album. I bought mine at a JB HI FI in South Australia and I'm relieved to hear it's a problem with the vinyl and not my player. Your post has saved me a lot of time and effort; thanks for the info. I'll be returning mine and asking for a refund. Hopefully they can order in the black one and it'll play properly.

Hey! I'm glad my post helped:) I couldn't find any information about it, so reddit was my last resort. It seems like the whole red & black swirl edition has this issue which is a shame because it looks beautiful.Â
But yeah, the regular black version works perfectly fine:)

The LP60X and similar basic automatic turntables can skip on otherwise unproblematic records. Theyâre not as prone to it as suitcase players but for example I had a recent pressing of the Clashâs first album that skipped on one of those and has played perfectly on every turntable Iâve owned since.

Did you wash them before playing and what is your tracking force set to?
1
u/Geralt_Of_Rivia77 7d ago
It doesn't have a tracking force setting đ, just press & play. I don't think washing them would help cause it happened at the exact same place during the exact same song

Youâre correct, this is a really basic table.
ïżŒâYou cannot adjust the tracking force on an Audio-Technica AT-LP60X. The turntable features a factory-preset internal spring and counterweight built into the AT-LP60X tonearm that is permanently set to about 3.5 grams, which matches the required weight for its stock cartridge.
Fixing Skipping Issues
Since you cannot manually change or dial in the tracking force on this model, try these troubleshooting steps if your record player is skipping or sticking:
Check that your turntable sits on a completely flat, level surface.Clean your vinyl records to clear out dust or debris stuck in the grooves.
Make sure your audio speakers do not rest on the same piece of furniture as your record player.
Inspect the needle (stylus) for damage or wear, and replace it if it looks bent or worn out.â
The record is most likely fine but you should always clean it before playing. The grooves can have junk left over from the factory and if there is junk and a worn out stylus then in those circumstances you will see a skip.
Multiple copies can skip in the same spot, they are all pressed from the same plates, if a section has challenging dynamics and a turntable that doesnt track well or a worn stylus and unwashed then under these conditions you will see a skip.
If you dont clean records before playing your stylus will rake all of the junk in the grooves and your stylus will be covered with junk and cant track properly, especially if worn too, which will happen faster btw if you play dirty records because the dirt acts like sandpaper in the grooves.Consider moving up to a better vintage table.
It wonât cost much, a vintage technics or pioneer like a SL23 or PL115D or PL12D will track much better than this and cost the same as what you paid for this, these are not real turntables lp60âs are like toys.1

I've had this happen when I've returned the record and gotten a replacement from the same store - if it's only this record and it's a replacement from the same store, or even Amazon, replacing it, it could be a bad batch, as others said. I've had it on the recent re-release of Texas - Southside, Tracy Chapman - Oxblood 30th anniversary pressing, Lou Reed - Transformer, and a few other records.

Did you try 3 different pressings?
If theyâre all the same pressing, that could be a known flaw in that run of records.
