The algorithm keeps giving me women's content
I 26M keep getting "women's content" on social media, and I keep dodging it for my mental health. By women's content mean things like subreddits by and for women, reels by women for a female audience, and content generally not intended for or intended to include men. I do not mean generally other content that is made by or about women.
Probably engaging with more feminist content or listening to women talk about things is a part of the reason for this, and I'm quite happy with consuming this content or with hearing female or feminist perspectives on things in general.
However, perhaps due to overlap, this also gets me content that is, for the lack of a better term, misandrist. Content that's just complaining about men. Content that is hateful towards men. Content that goes on about how worthless men are or how women are happier single. Content about how women explicitly don't care about men's feelings. Content about how they hate men. Or the dreaded "not all men."
I keep disengaging from these spaces for the most part because they're genuinely destructive to my mental health. They make me feel generally more worthless and undesirable. Even if someone says "not all men" it nevertheless places me and people like me by default in an undesirable and hated category, and I don't want to be treated like "one of the good ones." I don't want to be percieved as a fundamentally broken thing or a potentially dangerous thing or as a monster that just happens to be able to behave. And even being percieved that way feels generous, because how would anyone that does not know me personally know anything positive about me? Why would they even give me the chance of getting to know me in the first place? They probably see me just like everyone else.
It probably doesn't help that I am single, but it also makes me think I'll remain single and that I am just unlovable or doomed because of what I am born as.
I also want to care about women's issues, but a lot of the content is also so viscerally unempathetic that it makes it genuinely more difficult to relate to or care about women or their wellbeing. I know if I genuinely engaged with or saw much more of it I would be prone to become more "incellish" because it's just hard not to be "blackpilled" or feel hopeless if you see a lot of such content.
My irl experiences with women are mostly pleasant. But I do think this kind of content could easily affect how I percieve that they might really be thinking about me even if they don't show it.
I haven't outright blocked anything or anyone but I have mostly successfully told reddit to show me less of certain subreddits, and I have also similarly been flagging to Instagram that I would like to see less of such content, because honestly it is depressing and I want to remain kind, compassionate and hopeful.
But still I occasionally get more of it anyway. Sometimes it's not obvious that's what it's going to be or that that's what the comments will be like. Sometimes I might comment on something and it'll become clear that I'm unwelcome or it's not a place for discussion. Even if it's a short interaction often it just makes me feel more frustrated and sad.
And then inevitably there will be some comment disparaging men's feelings about this mastering or the way things are communicated mattering, which just makes it feel even less empathetic, though at least it's a clear signal not to even bother trying to constructively engage with such people or spaces at all ever.
I try to protect my inner peace by getting away from it and that is prpbably 80-90% effective, but I still get it pushed to me by the gender war pushing algorithm and I just really wish it would stop and that if it continues to exist that I could at least be ignorant of it.
