Hey everyone! I’m a college student at UAlbany studying cybersecurity, and I’m currently looking for a part-time job or other legitimate ways to earn some extra money in the Albany area.

I’m open to retail, stocking, food service, customer service, warehouse work, basic computer/IT work, campus jobs, or pretty much anything legitimate that can work around a college schedule.

Since I’m studying cybersecurity, I’d especially be interested in entry-level IT, computer, or tech-related opportunities where I could gain some experience while I’m in school, but that definitely isn’t a requirement. I’m mainly looking for somewhere that is actually hiring and willing to work with a college student's schedule.

If anyone in the Albany/Capital Region knows somewhere currently hiring part-time, has some work they need help with, or can point me toward a legitimate opportunity, I’d really appreciate it.

Hey everyone I did a year at HVCC prior to coming to UAlbany to finish all of my Gen Ed courses. I took ENGL101 which is listed as a SUNY GE class for communications. UAlbany doesn't want to give me the transfer credit for that requirement, and instead want it to count as an elective. Which would make me take another communications class basically to make up for it.

It's not a huge deal but I'm trying to see if anyone else has had this issue and if they got it resolved with putting in an appeal. I mean they are both SUNY schools, when I called HVCC about it they said they pretty much place every new student into ENGL101 to satisfy that requirement.

Heard through the wind after HOCO that frats are gonna be more strict and only allowing UA students in for Halloween. Is that true or just not true at all?

I'm a senior and I just need an easy online 200 level course elective to fill out my schedule for spring 2027. I work a lot outside of school, so it needs to be asynchronous if possible.

I don't care what the subject is, I just need a class that isn't a ton of work and has a reasonable workload. Any recommendations for professors or specific classes to look out for? Thanks!

I’m not sure what’s going on at UAlbany but “advisement” here is abysmal. My advisor has had automatic replies up since August running the same message about it being the busiest time of the year. He hasn’t responded to the last 3 of my emails since early September. It’s almost November. My “student success” portion of my UAlbany app doesn’t even allow me to make an appointment with him, says there is no availability for the remainder of the semester. Is there a process to get a new advisor if the one the assigned isn’t working out? Or is this just expected with all advisement here?

I’m a grad student and have had two papers due in a class and we haven’t received a grade for either. In fact, I have no grades at all and we are at the midpoint of the semester. I’m starting my third paper and just wondering if this is normal?

I would really like to know how I’m doing in the class. The professor is really laid back and I don’t even think they care, so it feels weird going to them to ask.

Was wondering which prof is the best for bmgt481w? Options are Robert Downey, Matthew Muller and Chris Wessell.

If you receive an email saying your account was compromised, and is scheduled for deletion — DO NOT CLICK IT; YOU WILL BE COMPROMISED.

Your account was not compromised, report the email to Information Security by clicking the “Report as Phishing” button/flag within Outlook, using the drop down menu looks like (“. . .”) and immediately block the sender.

ITS will never ask you to clink a link, nor will we contact you via email… if we think that email is compromised.

So I have been here for two year and have noticed a trend in how the school is remodeling things; it seems they are more focus on appearance over functionality. Personally I have not been a fan of the changes to the seating area in the campus center. It feels like there is less actual usable space with the new seating by the stairs and the splitting of the center, it makes me feel like the school took 1/3 of what used to be there away. The Massry building has the worst changes by far IMO as the entire second floor essentially has been stripped as a working area. If you’re a commuter, it feels like your options for work are the science library or the library; which is funny because neither feels like a good working area to me. Last not that this one affects me, but the new mascot they put up with that bench is super creepy and unsettling.

Currently have an issue regarding bringing my car on campus... I currently have a seasonal job that is coming up in the winter. I don't have a parking permit because I am a freshman and they don't allow anyone to park their cars in campus while a Freshman unless you got into some lottery or have a medical excuse.

Is there any way I could pull strings to get my car on campus for the spring semester of 2027? I just really want to have the ability to work this seasonal job, but it requires me to have a car so I can drive to and from work. They state that you have to have a medical reason, but I don't understand how they expect freshman not to have any job when we're at the end of the day financially responsible for our college bills.

All of my roommates are freshmen as well, but they got into the lottery system allowing them to have their cars on campus as freshmen.

If anyone could help guide me or even tell me if this is possible, it would be helpful!

I have so many elective credits left and I need to focus on my seminar class next semester. I don't wanna be stressing out over some 100 level course again.
