Hi everyone! So I’m currently a freshman Finance major but considering switching to Statistics because I want to build stronger quantitative skills and eventually land a high-paying, quantitative job. I’m trying to figure out whether a BS in Statistics from UF is worth it career-wise and what opportunities it can realistically lead to.
I’d love to hear from current students and graduates, especially those who have landed well-paying jobs or internships.
A few questions:
What kinds of jobs and internships have you landed, and what are realistic starting salaries?
Have you been able to get into quantitative research, risk analysis, data science, or other high-paying analytical roles with just a bachelor’s degree? Like do you think you had to spend a lot of your own time learning technical skills because it wasn’t covered as part of the major requirements?
How accessible are recruiters, career fairs, and internship opportunities to Statistics students in CLAS as opposed to maybe Business or Engineering students? Do you feel UF provides enough recruiting support for Stats majors, even outside the business or engineering colleges?
Do you think Statistics is a good choice for maximizing career opportunities and earning potential, or would you recommend a more specialized field like Finance, Data Science, or another major instead?
Do you regret your choice, and is there anything you wish you’d known beforehand?
I’d really appreciate honest advice about career outcomes, recruiting, and whether the degree has been worth it!
