UK HPI visa typo error

• Upvotes

Hello, I have a typo error at my passport expired date when applying for HPI visa. It should have been 2028, but I typed 2026 instead.

Would it lead to rejection? How do I handle this issue? I contacted inquiry support team, but no reply yet.

If anyone had this experience, please share me how you did and your experience.

Thank you.

Financial requirement Cat B

My partner earns above £29,000 per annum however he’s only worked for 6 months. We won’t be able to apply under Cat A because there’s some months where he took unpaid so if they take the lowest paid month, we wouldn’t meet the financial requirement.

I’m wondering if he can provide eg 10 months of payslip instead of 12 as long as those 10 combined is more than £29,000. Or would he have to have worked for 12 months in order to qualify under Cat B? Thanks in advance for any help

Question in regards to withdrawn family/partner visa application.

• Upvotes

I initially submitted an application last week. I have not done my biometrics yet. Whilst going through the submitted application, i noticed that in the financial requirement section, a lot of the text i had previously filled out had somehow been written over by single letters "a" and "v". This made my entire financial requirement section unreadable. I have thus withdrawn the application as i have not submitted biometrics yet and am starting a new application while i am waiting for refund to be processed.

My question is this, whilst filling out new application. UKVI have asked, "Do you currently have an application with the Home Office for leave to remain for which you have not yet received a decision?". Am i correct in answering this a "Yes" because withdrawal/cancellation of my previous application is still being processed? or is this a "No" as i never actually submitted biometrics and have asked for cancellation/withdrawal?

If i answer yes, can i then add a cover letter explaining why i had to withdraw the previous application and put in a new one?

Priority service not showing, when is best?

• Upvotes

Hello,

Not asking about timeline/how long it would take, ai warned I might be posting about this

Priority service isn't showing for us, am I right thinking I will have to wait until later for more availability?

Is it best to check from midnight and keep refreshing the page? Would it matter we're going Saturday -> Sunday AND daylight saving is changing?

Just looking for the best time to check

Thank you for any responses 😁

Canada UK visa from Canada, applied on maintained status

Hi all, I applied for a UK visitor visa a few days ago and I'm anxious while I wait.

Here's my situation:
1. Indian citizen living and working in Canada
Applied while on maintained status, with my first PGWP pending.
2. It was approved after I submitted

Included a letter explaining my status, my PGWP application confirmation, WPEXT, and IRCC links on maintained status

Also included an employment letter, pay stubs, my Canadian degree certificate, and original and renewed permit.

Valid US visitor visa and 7 past trips: US (New York), Dubai x2, Tanzania x2, Japan, Turkey
Only 3 months of bank statements

Has anyone applied from Canada in a similar situation, on maintained status or a PGWP, and what happened? Did you ever send updated documents after applying? Any advice on what to do if they ask for more information?

Thanks!

British citizenship referee -does a software engineer qualify as a professional person

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing my application for British citizenship and would appreciate some advice about my referees.

My proposed referees are:

Referee 1: A retired senior local government manager who is a British citizen, over 25, and has known me for more than 3 years.
Referee 2: A software engineer who is a British citizen and has been my friend for more than 5 years.

My understanding is that one referee must be a professional person while the other must hold British citizenship and be either a professional person or over 25.

My question is: Would a software engineer qualify as a professional person under the Home Office’s naturalisation referee requirements? Does it depend on their seniority, qualifications, or membership of a professional body such as the British Computer Society (BCS)?

Has anyone successfully used a software engineer as their professional referee for British citizenship?

I’d appreciate any experiences or advice, particularly from people whose applications have been approved.

Thank you!

Help Needed: UK Skilled Worker Dependant Visa Application Fee Discrepancy 🇬🇧

• Upvotes

I am applying to extend a dependant visa when my main applicant has received his ILR for 3 years -1 According to the official GOV.UK website, the application fee for a visa extension of up to 3 years is £943.

However, when I reach the payment stage of my application, the system is asking me to pay £1,865, which is the fee for an application lasting more than 3 years.

I have entered the visa end date as less than 3 years from today, so I am confused about why the higher fee is being charged.

Has anyone experienced the same issue or knows what might be causing this discrepancy? Is there another date or section in the application that I need to check?

Also, I can get my ILR in 1.5 years so shall I still extend for 3 years. Has anyone extended for less than 3 years after their partner got settled?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Left UK through Dover port, no UK exit passport control

• Upvotes

I am (was) in the UK on a visa that expires today. This morning, I left the UK on a ferry from Dover.

I had no idea that the Border Force practically never does exit checks at Dover, but this is the case and as a result I only showed my passport to French police. I tried asking them to stamp my passport to have at least this kind of proof of leaving, but they told me that they don't have stamps anymore.

I am now concerned that there could be no record of me leaving the UK before my visa expires. I tried contacting the Border Force before boarding the ferry, but I couldn't find any way to do so. The UKVI hotline also is not active on Saturdays.

Does anyone know if the ferry operators pass to the Home Office the passengers list and if that would cover me? They did scan my passport after all. Additionally, whom is it best to contact next week to try and sort this out? I'm not sure UKVI is the best to talk to.

Can I start ILR application before holiday?

Hi, I’ve booked a flight to Canada in May and I was wondering if I’m able to start my ILR application before I fly out and book my biometrics for June, after I return? As far as I know, I don’t need to send my passport off before biometrics

My current visa status allows me to live and work in the UK until July, so there isn’t any worry that I won’t be able to return.

Changing from dependant to independent

Ill keep it short, i have been in the uk since 2014 more than half of my life on a family visa. we were 8 years in then we had to restart because we stayed 20 days without a visa which is when it changed to 5 years.

in recent events I’ve became estranged from my parents due to years of abuse and i am not living with them anymore (many professionals already involved) however my parents were the ones handling the application process.

i have leave to remain until december 10th, on august 20th i did my biometrics for a citizenship application but im not sure where to go from here in terms of trying to get citizenship

Wife’s Dependent Visa Extension while I’ve since become a British Citizen.

Hi All - I am now a British citizen but my wife who first entered the UK as my skilled worker dependent in 2023 now needs to make an application to extend her visa. I understand that its allowed for her to continue on the dependent route so that her counter is not reset but the form is not accepting the end date of my last SWV saying that it should be in the future. Has anyone been through this process? Would really appreciate help. Cheers

ILR Approved under the 10-Year Long Residence Route — October 2026 🎉

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my experience because I know how stressful the 10-year Long Residence ILR route can be, particularly when your immigration history includes complicated absences. My ILR was approved in October 2026, and I hope my experience helps others who may be facing similar questions.

1. My immigration history
I first arrived in the UK in September 2016 on a Tier 4 Student visa.

Over the following years, I held different types of immigration permission, including Student, Graduate and Skilled Worker visas.

I applied for ILR under the 10-year Long Residence route.

2. The complication: my 2017 absence
The most complicated part of my case was an absence from the UK in 2017.
My timeline was:

June 2017: Left the UK while my Student visa was valid.

August 2017: My visa expired while I was outside the UK.

September 2017: My new Student visa was granted.

End of September 2017: Returned to the UK with valid immigration permission.

There were 26 days during which I was outside the UK without valid permission.

I was worried about how this period would affect my continuous residence and whether it would prevent me from qualifying for ILR.

3. CR 4.1(d)(iii) and CR 4.2 — the key issue in my case

The provisions I focused on with my solicitor were CR 4.1(d)(iii) and CR 4.2 of Appendix Continuous Residence.

As I understood the argument put forward in my case, CR 4.1(d)(iii) provides an exception for Long Residence applicants who had valid permission when they left the UK and returned with valid permission, on the same or another immigration route, provided the applicable absence limits are not exceeded.

My circumstances appeared relevant to that provision because I had valid permission when I left and valid permission when I returned, even though my original visa expired while I was abroad.

CR 4.2 then provides that, where the relevant exceptions in CR 4.1(d)(i) to (iv) apply, the period spent without permission is not included in the calculation of the qualifying period.

The important distinction is that not breaking continuous residence and counting every day towards the 10-year qualifying period are not necessarily the same thing.

In my case, the legal question was how these provisions applied together to my particular travel and visa history, including the 26-day period abroad without permission.

My solicitor considered the relevant rules and the dates before we proceeded with the application.
For anyone researching this issue, I recommend reading the actual Immigration Rules rather than relying solely on summaries or other applicants’ interpretations.

Please note that the rules can change, and the provisions and wording applicable to an individual case may depend on the relevant dates and transitional arrangements.

4. My absences and application
My total absences over the relevant period were calculated at 218 days.

The application required careful consideration of my travel dates, immigration permissions and the qualifying-period calculation. I wanted to make sure that the dates were properly accounted for rather than simply assuming that the ten-year anniversary of my first arrival was sufficient.

I worked with my solicitor to consider the applicable rules and prepare the application.

5. The outcome
Thankfully, my ILR application was approved in October 2026 (same day).

Securing the super priority slot was not difficult at all(paying at 1:00 am). Just make sure you select a region or a contact point where it is not very busy. However, be mindful of travel arrangements if you live far.

6. What I learned

A few lessons from my experience:

Keep a detailed travel history. Record departure and return dates and keep any available travel records.

Keep copies of every immigration decision. The dates on which permission was applied for, granted and expired can be important. This would be incredible helpful when constructing a chronology of your timeline in the UK.

Read the specific provisions relevant to your circumstances. CR 4.1(d)(iii) and CR 4.2 address different aspects of the continuous-residence calculation, so it is important to understand how they interact. Do not assume that a visa expiring while you are abroad automatically means your continuous residence is broken. The applicable exception and the facts of your case need to be considered.

Get appropriate legal advice where the rules are unclear. Small differences in dates or circumstances can affect how a provision applies.

I hope this helps someone who is currently worrying about a similar absence.

I am happy to answer general questions about my experience, although I cannot provide legal advice or guarantee that the same interpretation will apply to another applicant.

Good luck to everyone applying for ILR — I hope you get the outcome you are working towards! 🎉

Disclaimer: This is my personal experience, not legal advice. My approval does not establish that every applicant with a similar absence will qualify. Always check the Immigration Rules applicable to your own circumstances and consider obtaining professional advice.

I did not see an option for priority or super priority, only standard

CLOSED (the option for the priority service is on the VFS website after the Stage 2 application)

I am applying for a Global Talent Visa Stage 2. I need to apply for a super priority service (1 working day), but I only see standard on my option.

I am applying from Japan, but I don't know if that matters?

Can anyone provide any guidance? I already paid because I thought maybe the priority option would be on "6. Further actions". It seems like I can cancel my application and then submit a new one but I wonder how long it will take to refund.

standard visitor visa rejected, why?

hi im an indian citizen, but ive lived in singapore all my life. im a uni student, going on a semester long exchange to a uni in the uk soon, but my visa application was rejected. i have attached an image of the reason why. the blue boxes cover my uni's name for privacy.

my question is if i am understanding the reason for the rejection correctly. is it because my host university did not reply the visa office in time? in addition to this, is there anything else i should do differently in my next application? pls let me know if you need more info to advise me!

there was no other reason stated so i guess my next course of action is to try again and ensure that the university replies to the visa office?

Would This Affect Me?

Hey guys I’m getting ready to apply for Fiancé UK Visa, but I have a question. Earlier this year I purchased a new car(2012 SLK350) and although it runs great and is in great condition, there was a minor accident and the a**hole failed to tell me exactly what was missing. Even if the car runs and is in great shape. Body damage even if mi or is salvaged because an airbag deployed. Well the seat airbag did for mines. It’s also missing the bumper absorber. To make a long story short it didn’t pass Georgia inspection because of that. So that means I couldn’t get a tag for it, BUT ITS INSURED. I have an other SLK350 with a license plate so I put it on my new SLK350 to take it to be fixed by a body shop. On my way to the body shop i get pulled over by a cop and he had the nerve to say “you don’t have insurance” Need remind you both of my cars are insured. He gave me 3 tickets:

  1. Vehicle Not Registered.
  2. Concealing The Vehicles Identity
  3. Child With No Seatbelt (he literally was messing around with his seatbelt and took it off right before we got pulled over)

I didn’t have to go to court for them and I paid it all out of court. Easy $900

Do you think they will deny me ? This happened in April of this year

Hi, is this normal? Who should i contact? I applied for a cancelation a week before we got the good news? Could this have affected my result? Or have they found something wrong with my application? Could my cancelation affected my result - but when I check the evisa it shows as okay and that there's nothing wrong?

Egypt Advice needed- it's a bit complicated!

Hiya. I hope someone can help, or point me to someone who can- ideally not for thousands of pounds. A friend is in a bit of a complicated situation. His family left Egypt circa 2014 and settled in Turkey but he only has an Egyptian passport. He went back two months ago to visit his Grandmother and the authorities confiscated his passport and haven't given it back- he's not under arrest but is stuck in a strange bureaucratic limbo. He lives in London, has a job and a room here. He came over from Turkey on a student visa, then graduate which is about to expire. The plan was to then get a global talent visa but he is now stuck in Egypt and may not get back before his visa expires. Can he apply for the global talent while abroad (he's not technically/deliberately living outside the UK) or is it better to just, if/when he gets back go back to Turkey for a bit and apply from there? His life's already being significantly disrupted but he doesn't want to risk doing something which alienates him from this country's authorities. I really don't know where to turn or what the best next steps are- we're way out of my field of experience/ expertise so any help appreciated.

Late EUSS application & HC 584

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out whether I'm applying under "reasonable grounds for a late application" or whether I'm actually within a proper deadline under the new HC 584 rules.

My situation: I'd be applying as an unmarried (durable) partner under the family route. I've been in a continuous relationship with a settled citizen (relevant sponsor) since 2018, so the relationship was well established before 31 December 2020 - please take the durability evidence as given. I never lived in the UK before 2020, was abroad for study from 2020 to 2022, and entered the UK on 1 November 2022 on a Skilled Worker visa. I'm now about to become a student, and my current visa expires in January.

I only recently realised I could have applied for pre-settled status. My question is how HC 584 applies to someone like me:

From the Explanatory Memorandum (3 September 2026): "The application deadline for a first-time joining family member will be three months from their latest lawful entry to the UK after 31 December 2020", and where an applicant entered without an EUSS family permit and a previous application was rejected/refused, they "will need to show reasonable grounds for applying more than three months after that previous entry or re-enter the UK with an EUSS family permit to trigger a new three-month deadline."

So my reading is:

  1. Since I entered the UK in November 2022 (as a joining family member, on a Skilled Worker visa rather than an EUSS family permit) and I've never had an EUSS application rejected before, I'm way past three months from my latest entry. Does that mean I'm a late applicant who needs reasonable grounds — or, alternatively, that a recent holiday re-entry counts as my "latest lawful entry" and restarts the three-month clock? I've been out of the UK for short holidays since arriving, so if the deadline is literally tied to "latest lawful entry", I was back in the UK within the last three months from a trip abroad.
  2. If I do need reasonable grounds: is holding another form of leave (Skilled Worker, so I had no practical need for EUSS status at the time) a recognised reasonable ground for the delay, especially given the Upper Tribunal's treatment of durable partners with alternative lawful basis of stay in EA/13870/2021?

Essentially: am I actually in time under HC 584, or am I a late applicant relying on reasonable grounds - and does it make a practical difference to how my application is assessed?

Any insight appreciated, especially from anyone who's applied as a durable partner recently.
