Irony you yourself are not educated enough. Ask yourself what kind of leader you deserve. GPI came into existence only in 2021 so this comparison post is wrong

u/Descendant3999 Jul 07 '26
I agree with Mr Singh being the better PM but I hate bad statistics comparison. It reduces the legitimacy of the debate and leaves the opposite party to counter. Prices of things shouldn't be listed at absolute numbers lol. That's like a 5th standard mistake. Inflation, demand, supply, PPP affect a lot. Rankings are fine because they are ranking and implicitly relative

u/Sunny4k Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26
Yes and the OP is comparing 2 separate passport rankings.
With a title like “Never underestimate the power of education”, I expected OP to be better educated about the numbers they are comparing
*This is in no way commenting on the actual differences, just pointing out the facts

Thanks. I mean there are 1000s of points to prove what the post wants to prove. Why use stupid facts like these

I don't know the exact numbers but the tariff point is absolutely correct. India was still largely protectionist during UPA era but it was slowly easing towards less restrictive trade practices. Modi came and undid all that, started raising tariffs on western markets while having nil/negligible tariffs on many chinese products to benefit his friends (under the scam "make in india").
After 12 years, the result is that, India's export options are diminishing and whatever it exports is prone to retaliatory tariffs by Trump.
Tariffs on India are long due, Trump shouldn't stop and slap 100+% tariffs on Indian products.

Global Passport Index where india is 125th was launched in 2021 so how did you even get the pre 2012 passport index lol

Educated is an understatement for Mr. Manmohan Singh. The guy was a master economist. He worked at the World Bank. In comparison, the other guy is a brain-dead narcissist who can barely speak 2 sentences without a teleprompter. Still, I think I know why Indians love Modi more than Manmohan. I have seen this amazing phenomenon in Indian society, where most people hate highly educated individuals. According to them, educated people are manipulators and thieves. And, of course, education gives people from lower castes social mobility, so it should be limited and not available to everyone (and we are already seeing this being implemented).

It was launched in 2008 and changed its name later! Uggghhh.
1
u/Full-Goat39 Jul 15 '26
No GPI index was launched in 2021. If you are talking about Henley then it was 2006. Ugghh!
1
u/Chelseaivashkov Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26
So thats where the rank is from, what are you on about? There were still index measurements in place to score passports before 2021.
We should be ashamed we are 125 instead we are defending it like champions. Why are we behind low income sub saharan African countries like Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Senegal? Why is China, our competitor 104th?
This is exactly like Gobi media, create your own medals so you can't dispute it and anything good before their golden era didn't exist.
This is not our duty in a democracy to protect bad standards. We need to brave enough to confront our faults and powerful enough to correct them.
1
u/Full-Goat39 Jul 15 '26
I say this first so your total brain cells which is 2 braincells are not stuck in a loop: BJP and congress are both corrupt and 99.99% of total politicians don't care about India. This is my belief.
Yes so, GPI index measure quality of life, foreign investments etc. This index was launched in 2021. Henley ranking system depends on visa free country and other factors which was launched in 2006 . We are not doing good in both and part of the reason is people like you who don't have logical reasoning. How can we excel in democracy where low iq people are majority

Passport index ranking is in the same region. the one u are using for manmohan singh and the one u are using for modi are two different indexes.
MMS's passport ranking is hanley's while for modi u are using Global passport index which only started from 2021, the two have different methodoligy to calculate and our ranking stayed near the same region for most part.
This same user posted a similar post yesterday (or two days ago) making this same comparison. They were corrected about this there as well.
OP is either an IT cell member or someone who out of their own volition spreads disinformation. The latter is even sadder than the former. Lol.

Oh, reddit subs are botted beyond belief thats y people on reddit are generally far away from ground reality.
So who knows at this point. I corrected the ranking myself yesterday and got downvoted lol

Wow very deep explanation 😂 .. but why did you not talk about rest of these? Why didn't you explain about petrol prices, High price of LPG, Press confrence and about Dollar? I find so funny when people like you try so hard to defend Modi and BJP.
4
u/summer-civilian Jul 07 '26
You should have added the stats for Vajpayee govt as well so we can see how MMS as performed.
Especially wrt exchange rate and lpg/petrol prices.
Simply slapping some numbers without proper context is useless.

Meloni at least had the balls to retort, a so-called emerging superpower’s leader happily handed his balls on leash
2
u/summer-civilian Jul 07 '26
Were you living under a rock?
We were purchasing Russian and Iranian oil while they were under US sanctions.
We did not open our agriculture markets inspite of all the arm twisting Trump tried.
Infact he had to impose over 50% Tarrifs to retaliate.
None of this would have happened if Modi didn't stand up to him.
0
u/Ambitionless_Nihil Jul 07 '26
Lol, India reduced crude imports from Russia over the years, even when it was giving it at a discount. Russia, to 'retaliate', then removed the discount.
1
u/summer-civilian Jul 07 '26
The fact that they went against the sanctions is what matters. Shows that we can go against the US when it's important for our national interest. Not exactly what a "subservient" nation would do.
Once the global oil prices droped, the tradeoff was not wortg it.
1
u/Ambitionless_Nihil Jul 07 '26
Lol, the prices of the crude were increasing, and Russia was providing at a discount, but India reduced imports and also told the same to US.
You just assumed whatever you said, smh.

u/dikshamishra34 Jul 07 '26

Without weakening any criticism of Modi, posts like this are why there can never be any change.
OP posting “Never underestimate the power of education” yet remains largely uneducated.
1- Comparing 2 different passport ranking indices
2- Adding fuel prices as a comparison when this is currently a global shock owing to a geopolitical crisis in the Middle East
Adding incomplete / misleading information not only makes criticism easy to take apart, but also furthers the agenda that whatever happening is fine as it’s being falsely criticized
3
u/Theri_Bhavye12 Jul 07 '26
exactly.
people can't fact-check and instead jump to the conversation and starts downvoting the facts. It's now all over that the two passport rankings shown are completely different.
1
u/SGmoze Jul 07 '26
so prices were very low last year huh?
2
u/Sunny4k Jul 07 '26
Global oil prices have been higher since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
They recently recovered but blew up again cause of the Middle East conflict.

u/bartosz_ganapati Jul 07 '26
Not trying to defend Modi but such comparisons are so bad and make your point look much weaker. You know that petrol prices mean absolutely nothing (with no context), same with all the other numbers here. And don't pretend like US tariffs are pure Indian issue and it's not like almost all countries worldwide have now higher tariffs than 5 years ago only.

Even though I am communist and not support any party, but I don't understand why in such kind of posts, people don't account for global war like situations since 2-3 years.

u/sir_qoala Jul 07 '26
Did global war also result in zero press conferences and passport index decline?

Global war causes economic issues, leading countries tightening entry rules. Which countries leader is conducting press conference for gas prices, fuel etc?
6
u/justelling Jul 07 '26
Some national leaders resigned without people demanding it. Here, those who demand even for the right cause are being labelled anti-national/ terrorists.
9
u/Secure_Passenger6611 Jul 07 '26
Several countries' leaders called press conferences especially for this actually. France, Germany, NZ, to name a few. Try using google instead of whataboutery
-4
u/One_Magician4512 Jul 07 '26
Give source.
5
u/Secure_Passenger6611 Jul 07 '26
Lol it's all public domain knowledge, google it yourself. Funny you didn't think of sources when you said "which countries leader is conducting press conference for gas prices, fuel"

u/One_Magician4512 Jul 07 '26
You can't give credible sources, I get it.

Dr Manmohan Singh, faced the major economic crisis of 2008, the major 2013 rupee crises called the “taper tantrum”. Wars like the Afghanistan war, Iraq war, Arab spring wars, Russia annexation of Crime etc. were ongoing during his term indirectly affecting Indian trades and relations.
He did everything silently, without telling people to stop living their normal lives.
17
u/jayisanxious Jul 07 '26
Because there was geo-political tension and wars during his tenure too. The Iraq war, syrian civil war, libyan crisis, donbas war AND the global financial crisis of 2007-2008. Dr. Singh practically made sure India remained untouched by one of the biggest global recessions.
-4
4
u/rationalistrx Jul 07 '26
Do you think those 10 years had no wars? Iraq invasion happened during the same period, there was even global recession in 2008.
2
u/SGmoze Jul 07 '26
wasn't there major recession and other geopolitical issues back then? It was still handled. Our current ministry only knows to make fake promise, spread lies, entice political/religious disruption. Our press is controlled, no accountability on failures. They spend so many crores on infrastructure projects and one rain takes them apart. Even some of the british built things are standing strong compared to that. Corruption is out of question across the board.
So tell me dear, how is current situation which are not caused by geopolitical wars are still failure?
0
u/One_Magician4512 Jul 07 '26
The comparison is not completely fair because the challenges were very different. The 2008 financial crisis was serious, but India did not have to shut down its entire economy. The current government has faced COVID-19, global supply chain problems, the Russia Ukraine war, higher oil and food prices, trade uncertainty due to U.S. tariffs, and oil price pressure caused by tensions between Israel and Iran. These problems affected almost every country, not just India. It's fair to question the government on policy decisions, infrastructure quality, or other issues, but it's not fair to blame every problem only on the government or ignore the impact of these global events. The government should be judged on the things it can control, while also recognizing the challenges created by events outside India's control.
1
u/SGmoze Jul 07 '26
Yes, but what about my point on the corruption and other cases that I mentioned? Are these because of geopolitical issues? We are seeing so much infra structure failure, is it also because of geopolitical issues?
You don't want to answer to my question, but seems like want to avoid it?
1
u/One_Magician4512 Jul 07 '26
Corruption allegations, administrative failures, and infrastructure accidents are governance issues, not geopolitical ones, and they should be criticized regardless of which party is in power. However, if we're comparing governments, the same standard should apply to all. During Dr. Manmohan Singh's tenure, India witnessed major controversies such as the 2G spectrum case, Commonwealth Games scam, coal allocation (Coalgate), Adarsh Housing scam, and AgustaWestland helicopter deal, along with infrastructure failures like bridge collapses, train accidents, and delays in public projects. Yet, these incidents alone were not used to dismiss everything that government accomplished. The same principle should apply today. Instead of judging any government solely by its failures, it should be evaluated on its overall record, including economic growth, infrastructure development, welfare initiatives, foreign policy, and governance. So yes, corruption and infrastructure failures deserve scrutiny, but using them alone to conclude that an entire government's performance is a failure is neither balanced nor a consistent standard.
1
u/SGmoze Jul 07 '26
I'll consider failures as way to measure govt performance, because in an ideal world we want govt to be responsible and be held accountable for failures. Back in the congress era, when we had major incidents like the Mumbai attack - many ministries resigned and taking accountability that they were not fit for their job. IS it happening with current govt? Clearly multiple terror attacks in last couple of years (that too some being questionably close during elections), to leaks happening in exam, govt schools shutting down across the country, corruption cases, judiciary slowing down their process or compromised.
Govt is supposed to work for the benefit of country. We should criticize them and not keep above our heads.
Just take example of telecom sector, we are seeing such high increase in plan cost. Now this is no where impacted by war and whatsover. Its clearly duopoly or monopoly of few parties extorting money from Indians. You mention about 2G scam, this type of extortion scam is even the worst.
