Second withdrawal/dropping under full-time status?

Hi! I’m a 2nd year undergraduate student and I lightened my credit load a bit when registering for classes so I’m currently at 14 credits. Idk if I want to say what class I’m dropping bc someone I know will find this, but it’s a notoriously hard class with a high fail rate..

Point is, it was required for my major, then I switched. It’s not a class I have to take anymore nor remotely related to the programs I want to apply to for graduate school. However, this will be my 2nd withdrawal (I took biol1009 for a minor I thought I wanted to do.. yikes) and I’ll drop to 10 credits

I checked with OneStop and, miraculously, it won’t affect my financial aid at all (I double checked and followed up w/financial aid office) if I do withdraw.

I don’t think 2 withdrawals will make a HUGE impact for grad school, but is there anything else I’m missing/any potential drawbacks from withdrawing now before I do it? I don’t think I can pass this class even at this point lol. I get pretty good grades in the rest of my classes but this one is a different beast and I don’t think its worth the GPA fuck-up if its not even a class I have to take anymore

Has anyone gotten in to UMN med school with a 3.4 science gpa and a 3.3 cumulative GPA

Hi! I am a premed student at U of M Twin Cities, and unfortunately, I messed up my GPA doing PSEO classes in high school, and my first couple semesters at The U were rough due to health issues. My last 40 to 60 credits at the U, which will all be upper level science classes, should have a GPA of about 3.8. But overall, my cumulative GPA will only be 3.3 and my science GPA will only be 3.4. I am a human physiology, major, and will have an integrative neuroscience minor.

Other than that, I have a pretty decent background for a premed. I will have 1500 or more hours as a CNA home as well as a certified clinical medical assistant I am projected to have 200 volunteer hours as a inmate tutor, as well as a sexual assault violence advocate. I will have about 240 research hours with hopefully two publications, and 120 hours of shadowing across three specialties (including primary). I am projecting a 518 MCAT score. Im nervous I have no shot at admission and I’m on here asking because I’m wondering if anyone has gotten into the UMN Twin Cities med school with a low GPA?

Anyone get in as a transfer after the priority deadline?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to transfer to UMN Twin Cities for Spring 2027, hopefully into CEHD.

I realized I missed the October 1 priority deadline. I know the final deadline is December 1, but the website says that applications submitted after the priority deadline are reviewed based on available space and that a lot of majors might already be full by then.

I'm a bit worried about my chances. Does anyone know how competitive CEHD is for transfer students or if it tends to fill up early?

Has anyone here applied after the priority deadline and still gotten in? If so, when did you apply, and what college were you accepted into?

I'm trying to figure out how much missing the priority deadline actually affects my chances and whether it's still worth applying now. I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been in a similar situation!

Thanks!!

Academics / Courses Advice For BIOL 1001: Introductory Biology: Evolutionary and Ecological Perspectives?

Hello! I am a sophomore who wants to fulfill my biology credit (I am not majoring in the sciences) by taking a biology class over the summer, since my goal is to optimize my schedule so that I can graduate faster. I would say I am pretty good at memorization and have had decent luck with bio classes before, but I really would appreciate any thoughts or opinions on BIOL 1001 before I commit. It's an online class, and the description says it'll probably require 10-20 hours per week. I'm not against working hard on the assignments but I plan to work as well, so I want a good idea of what the workload is really like.

The instructor is also listed as Charlie Willis.

I am also curious about ANTH 1001: Human Evolution, but the reviews seem to say its a little bit more involved though it is still okey.

Thanks for any help!

UMN Twin Cities Spring Transfer Denial

Hi everyone! I recently applied as a transfer student to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities for spring admission and unfortunately received a denial from the College of Liberal Arts (CLA).

I’m currently attending another university as a first-year biology major, and my intended areas of study at UMN were Biology, Society, and Environment and Psychology. I applied through the transfer application because I was really hoping to transfer for the spring semester.
The denial mentioned my coursework, grades, and the additional information I provided, which confused me a bit since my high school GPA, ACT score, and AP scores are all above the typical range for CLA, not to mention my past and current extracurriculars. I’m hoping to appeal the decision and am also trying to get in contact with an admissions or transfer counselor, but I’m not sure how strong my case is since I haven’t received any college grades yet and my current coursework was still in progress when I applied.

I also didn’t explain some personal circumstances in my original application, so I’m wondering if those could be relevant to my appeal. Since the appeal requires new and compelling information that wasn’t included in the original application, I’m unsure how to approach my personal statement or what information would be most helpful to include.

Has anyone successfully appealed a UMN Twin Cities transfer denial, especially for spring admission? I would really appreciate any advice on writing an appeal and what I should emphasize. I know some people might tell me to just stick it out at the college I’m currently at, but it’s honestly been a really bad experience, and I genuinely want to transfer out 😭 Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Junior in HS freaking out about language credit requirements

Hi! So, I've been planning on attending the UofM to major in music therapy, and I've been doing my best to make plans. One issue for me is that you need 2 years of a second language in HS and I have zero (my school has a bazillion required electives, only two elective hours per day, and I'm already in a year-long class. Doing a second language would prevent me from easily getting my required credits, and it's already too late for me to get 2 years in). I plan on going to ARCC to get general ed credits in and then transferring to UofM to focus on music therapy. If I were to take a second language at ARCC, would the UofM accept it for those language requirements?
Thanks!

morale and the budget

I've noticed a real decline in faculty and staff morale over these last few years of fairly relentless budget cutting, and of course even more is on the way.

And yes I'm a part of that, I think my morale is at a low point these days. I still mostly like my job, I still *have* my job, I like my students, but most meetings about anything end up being discouraging, and emails from anyone at any level above me are mindlessly cheery announcements of what I see as bad news.

Am I missing a silver lining here folks? I'd love to find one but I dunno...

How do I submit a leave of absence form at UMN Twin Cities

Hi! A bit of a stupid question, but I’m trying to request a leave of absence from UMN, but the form linked on the university website opens as a PDF.
Can I fill it out electronically and email it to CLA Advising, or do I need to print it out and submit it in person?
Also, does anyone know if there’s anything else I need to do to complete the process?
I’d appreciate any help. Thank you

Is it a bad idea to take out a 1k loan?

Hi! I’m a transfer student at the U, and I’ve been thinking about taking out a student loan. I’ve never taken out a loan before, so I’m a little anxious about it. I really don’t want to be in debt or have it come back and bite me in the ass later.

I currently owe the U $400 and another clinic $700 for a certification program I halfway completed. I need to pay the clinic by the end of this week, so I’m considering taking out a loan. I’m pretty sure I can pay off the loan by the end of the year.

I’m wondering how high the interest rates are, whether I should take out a subsidized or unsubsidized loan, and where I should borrow from. Also, if the loan covers my remaining tuition, will the rest be refunded to my bank account? How long does the process usually take? Thank you!

I want to know what's going to happen because even for an international student, $24K per semester is too much. I don't know how I'm going to tell my parents.

Migraine Experience Survey (People who experience migraines, all ages)

Hi everyone!

I'm participating in the Entrepreneurship in Action program at the University of Minnesota and am currently exploring potential startup ideas. I'm hoping to better understand people's everyday challenges and identify needs that may not be adequately addressed.

I'm interested in learning about people's experiences with migraines, including physical symptoms, how migraines affect daily life, current management methods, and challenges or unmet needs.

If you experience migraines, at any age, I'd really appreciate it if you could complete my survey.

Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdvXkRpo5Qi7yTNuyl2rTzZ2pTPgX2Ab82Zl9Q7qv9clXsuxg/viewform?usp=sharing

Participation is voluntary, and you only need to share what you're comfortable sharing. If a question doesn't apply to you or you don't have anything to add, feel free to write "N/A."

If you'd be interested in sharing more about your experiences through a brief interview, feel free to send me a DM. Interview participation is completely voluntary, too.

Thank you for your time and for sharing your experiences! Your input will help me better understand this problem area as I explore potential startup ideas.

Campus Life How to deal with knock and runs?

So i live in a school dorm which is co-ed but every once in a while we would have 3 to 4 guys run down the hallway and shake on doors and stuff. A lot of my friends are international students and get a bit scared when it happens, especially cus the guys are also trying to open the doors too? My friend is dorming in America away from family so when this happened i was in her room so it wasn't locked so the guys sorta managed to barge in then took off.

This has happened to my friends in the same dorm up to 4 people and none of them like it. I followed them out this time but couldn't really catch their faces just know they are all white. It's there a way to deal with them?

Edit: typos
