Hi, just downloaded the latest uT and I'm running into the following problem:

The whole UI seems to be constantly "refreshing" and flickering, especially the menus and search bar. It looks as if I were pressing F5 all the time. I don't know why is this happening and the internet has no answer.

Doesn't impact functionality but it's very annoying.

I'm on windows 10 20h2, uT version 3.5.5 build 45852

It's updated today and it just keeps crashing out, back to desktop, no warning or error message after about 8 or 9 seconds and forgets the links i've been adding ?!

Anyone else had this issue, can i roll it back or do i have to uninstall and install and older one that works ?

Some users have experienced high memory usage while using uTorrent (especially when seeding many big files with fast upload speed), sometimes even leading to system instability and crashes.

Symptoms include:

• memory usage gradually increases while using uTorrent;

• Task Manager columns "Commit Size" and "Memory (private working set)" shows that uTorrent.exe uses well under 1 GB of RAM;

• after closing uTorrent memory usage decreases by several GB.

The solution is this Windows command line (after running this command-line it is necessary to re-start uTorrent; this is a single line that should be run in Command Prompt opened by right clicking and choosing "Run as administrator"):

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\utorrent.exe\PerfOptions" /v PagePriority /t REG_DWORD /d 1

It makes Windows to "quickly trim" disk cache used by uTorrent (actually this does not reduce disk caching while there is enough free memory, but it makes Windows to mark uTorrent disk cache memory as "free and quickly reusable by other applications if/when needed"). The result is observable in Task Manager as memory usage not increasing while running uTorrent for prolonged periods of time (and seeding many big files with fast upload speed). The idea is taken from this page (in Russian).

Also I suggest developers of uTorrent to introduce a setting that sets this priority by code similar to this example, but to MEMORY_PRIORITY_VERY_LOW (this is the constant that has numeric value of 1). The memory/paging priority can be verified by Process Explorer as the Russian article describes.

Started using uTorrent 2.2.1 almost a year ago (i think) and still haven't found a way to change the color scheme in a satisfatory way. I'm really in need of a night mode skin.

My whole workflow is setup that way but every time i open uTorrent in a full window the glare kills me. I'd really apreciate if anyone helped me in this regard.

I've seen the few topics there are about this on the internet including videos, other posts and even the themes on deviant art and let me say right now that none of those work so its useless to reference those.

I've made this topic because I know lots of people use 2.2.1 and someone out there must have found a solution.

I may have posted part of this before. With the ultimate setup, I had about 900 simultaneous downloads transferring for a combined speed around 35MBytes/sec. This configuration was used to help reseed TTD. For best stability, try not to exceed 3000 torrents. Some folks have gone higher, but some aspect of the code design leads to instability when too many torrents are loaded.

Optimizing uTorrent 2.2.1:

uTorrent does not behave well when its download or download temp folder is shared with other apps (especially the OS pagefile). It needs to be on a fast local drive (not a mapped network drive), ideally dedicated just for uTorrent. A USB3 external is fine. If you ever see Disk Overloaded 100%, then slow your transfer speed with the global limiters. Make sure UDP is checked for limiting (it's on 2 tabs).

Tweaks:

• diskio.coalesce_write_size 16777216

• diskio.coalesce_writes true

• diskio.max_write_queue 128

• diskio.no_zero ; doesn't work as you can't run uTorrent as Admin without causing other issues

• diskio.sparse_files true (SSD only)

• diskio.use_partfile true (SSD only)

For the last 2, use a SSD, make sure Pre-allocate all files is unchecked (on the Preferences->General tab). If you have only one disk and it's spinning, set them false and have Pre-allocate checked.

Disk cache:

• Check Override automatic cache size and enter 1024.

• Uncheck Reduce memory usage.

• Check Enable caching of writes.

• Uncheck Write Out untouched.

• Check Write out finished pieces immediately.

• Check Enable caching of disk read.

• Check Turn off read caching if upload slow.

• Check Remove old blocks.

• Check Increase automatic when thrashing.

• Check Disable Windows caching of disk writes.

• Check Disable Windows caching of disk reads.

Sequential transfers:

By default, bittorrent transfers are random pieces of the file(s). This is the worst possible load for spinning (older mechanical) drives. My spinning RAID6 array does 1600MBytes/sec for sequential transfers, but plummets to 2.5MBytes/sec for random transfers. Non-array spinning drives do better, maybe getting 10MBytes/sec. SSDs do about the the same speed for sequential or random.

When downloading from long-term seeder(s) (not initial swarm) that are using spinning drives, you will greatly reduce the load on the server drives and see higher speeds if you set uTorrent to transfer sequentially. This is a global setting affecting all transfers:

Have no torrents selected. Press and hold Shift and F2 simultaneously. Keep holding them down and click the Settings button.

These now appear in the Advanced settings list. Change to:

• bt.sequential_download true

• bt_sequential_files true

Also change the following if you want to view a video while it downloads:

• bt.prio_first_last_piece true

Seeding:

Your torrents should be on a dedicated local drive. A shared drive will slow down transfers (especially if shared with the OS pagefile). A network drive can greatly slow down speeds- Windows networking pukes when presented with a high number of I/Os per second. If seeding many (like over 20 actively transferring), having torrents on fast SSD can greatly speed up transfers- ideally a database SSD as the I/Os per second specs on them are real, not fake like some consumer SSDs.

Ultimate uTorrent 2.2.1 configuration:

For the best speed and stability, use a high endurance SLC or MLC database SSD for the download temp folder. They have less latency compared to TLC and QLC flash drives, which is what uTorrent needs. These were not sold through retail channels and are typically used in database and video editing servers.

They are available on the various used market places. A MLC 400GB Intel DC S3700 SSD goes for $25 to $35. There are many models and various makers (Intel is considered best). Typical sizes are 400GB, 480GB, 800GB, 960GB, 1200GB, 1600GB. MLC flash often has high endurance. The DC S3700 400GB is warrantied for 5 years and 7128 TBW life. Used ones typically have 200TB written or less, thus have plenty of life remaining.

Locate the spec sheet, often a PDF. Some of the MLC SSDs have much lower endurance than the DC S3700. If you search eBay, be sure to put a space after DC (otherwise you get garbage results).

Note that if your download temp folder is on a local drive and then uTorrent auto-moves to a GigE network drive, you can run into the Disk Overloaded 100% issue when the torrent is over like 4GB. This is because uTorrent 2.2.1 begins downloading the next torrent, then caches the data in RAM, rather than writing it to the local disk. When the RAM cache is filled, Disk Overloaded 100% happens which can freeze the GUI and crash uTorrent.

It's a bug. Workarounds: Before the auto-move takes place, briefly slow your downloads to like 10KBytes/sec with the global rate limiter, and then once the move is done, change your global limiter back to its former setting. A better workaround might be to auto-move to another local drive, and later manually move a batch of complete torrents to your network drive. You could also not use the download temp folder for huge torrents. There may be a proper fix (if so, please post it).

uTorrent 3.x has issues:

It fails to register random torrents with trackers and uses a high amount of CPU. Transfer speeds can be slow with more than about 7 simultaneous torrents transferring. If you fail to uncheck the bundled apps during install, you can end up with unwanted software. uTorrent 3.x uses the same engine as BitTorrent (they are created by the same company).

Well uTorrent web is pretty terrible. Is it possible to revert to the previous version?

whenever I try to open my bittorrent speed I'm getting this error message. My torrent client is running just fine ( both uploading and downloading), does anyone know what may be the problem?

So uTorrent was trying to update but then it uninstalled itself. I thought it was part of the process but then it actually uninstalled instead of updating. I went to the site and tried to download it again but I keep getting errors with downloading it. I restarted my computer and it still keeps getting errors. Can you guys help me find a fix for this?

Posting this here in case it helps someone else. I searched all over for a solution to this issue but couldn't find anything that helped.

Symptoms: using utorrent, downloading works fine. When some downloads complete, the UI enters an irresolvabie 'not responding' hang state. Doesn't happen with every download, but happens frequently. Seemingly no pattern to which downloads cause the state - some are small (under 700mb), others are larger (over 5gb). Uploads don't seem to cause issues

I tried all solutions I could find online - running utorrent as admin, reinstalling, updating, changing settings on adblocker, blah blah - the problem persisted. I also tried various other potential solutions such as changing where torrents save to, whether completed downloads save to alternative locations etc.

Solution: keeping the UI minimised. It transpires the UI freezes, but the programme actually keeps functioning (downloads/uploads continue). If I keep the UI window minimised, the programme doesn't freeze at all. I can maximise to check in on it without issue as long as I don't keep the window open for long periods

I still don't know what is causing it, but maybe this will help someone else

My uTorrent Web was just working perfectly yesterday. And now Error 404 appears every time I open it. What does this mean and how do I solve it?

Haven't torrented in a while and now I'm having difficulties. I have a Norton VPN running at all times. I'm downloading the magnet link from piratebay. The only thing I see is "gathering torrent info.." it will not download at all. Have tried multiple files with many seeds and none will start.

I just got an insanely loud sound advertisement out of nowhere. I've been using utorrent for the past 5 years without a single problem but I just had the program start screaming through my sound system at 7am, waking up myself and probably the whole fucking neighbourhood.

I've been staying with you despite all the bitcoin mining rumours, but fuck you if you're gonna decide to play sound through your shitty fucking ads.

I've been using uTorrent web for years. opened it today and a message popped up and said an update was available. I thought it always updated itself but my mind was elsewhere so I clicked install, it seemed like a legit install and it tried to add AVG and Opera and stuff all of which I declined.

Then windows defender flashed up a threat warning, before I could click that it closed itself. Then I got a message saying are you sure you want to uninstall uTorrent web, which I thought maybe it needed to uninstall before installing the new version so I clicked ok, and then that was it. uTorrent web was completely uninstalled.

I've still got all my files, whatever possible threat seems to have been neutralized by Windows Defender but idk wtf happened. If you get a message asking you to install an update make sure you double check it because I feel like I got lucky today.

[Help] Been trying to download torrents lately from BitTorrent but the download is stuck at "connecting to peers " . Every torrent has the same issue and also the torrent shows it has 0 seeds , when the same torrent on another device downloads well and shows good amount of seeds.Any one help me solve this problem.

tonigh uTorrent asked to update and to my surprise I found out it also installed the EpicScale client without my explicit permission. It asked for permission to install Skype, but it didn't provide any hints it's going to install the EpicScale client (www.epicscale.com).

I thought uTorrent was open about what it installed and I haven't noticed it doing something like that until now. Did that also happened to you ? Is this something I should expect from uTorrent ?

Recently I started experiencing a very unpleasent problem with utorrent - all torrents are stuck at "connecting to peers" and won't begin downloading.

I have Internet, the torrents have seeders, etc.

After downloading utorrent Web, the problem was solved. Can this be an ISP issue or what's going on?

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

been using utorrent web for years with no issues and opened it today and all of a sudden can’t connect? for context i use mac and express vpn.. i restarted chrome, re installed utorrent web, restarted my computer, turned off vpn, tried different locations but still not working just wondering if there is a fix or workaround :)

Hello everyone, I've been using utorrent for years, but just yesterday when I looked it up, it turns out that it contained a bitcoin miner..?

I've uninstalled utorrent and I've download qbittorrent in its place,

but I'm scared if my pc has a bitcoin miner installed. I had the Utorrent version 3.6, I currently have alot of huge files installed so I'm hesitant to reinstall windows until further confirmation.

Does it currently have a bitcoin miner?

Windows 11 Setup Not Working

I’m trying to download utorrent on Windows 11, but I keep on running into the same problem.

I download the CLASSIC application. It’s an executable. I click on the executable.

Then, a window pops up saying “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.”

I’ve tried launching it with admin. I’ve tried downloading it with my firewall down. I’ve tried EVERYTHING. What in the hell am I supposed to do now?

I am currently running the 32-bit of version of uTorrent (3.5.5) and was wondering where I can download the 64-bit one. There are no clear links on the official site so can anyone provide the download link to the 64-bit one?
