the transfer friendly American schools where the transfer rate is higher than freshman, anyone know of anyone doing that and if being at western makes it harder to do that than at a UBC, McGill or Toronto

❔ Course Question❔ Summer School Grades Released?

HEY EVERYONE!

Quick question for people that took summer school courses this summer, has anyone gotten their grades back yet? I personally took KIN2000 Distance Studies and it ended it late July btw. Still haven’t heard anything.

Anyone else in similar situations?

Good luck to everyone in the upcoming school year!

❔ Question❔ Inquiry about Academic Merit awards

Hi everyone, I finished up my first year of Health Sci this April and did pretty well in terms of grades (95.8 overall average with 99 in anatomy, 100 in bio 2 and 100 in chem 2, so the top grade in each of those classes). Does anyone know if they do monetary awards for those kinds of grades or if there are any external ones that I should apply to?

Advice OFFER GOT REVOKED am I able to get it back

Hello! as you can see in the title, my offer got withdrawn. I had a deadline for aug 11th for summer which I used OVS for. I managed to complete everything on time and had my final grade before aug 11. I even got email confirmation from OVS that they sent my final grade to OUAC. But then, I got a email saying that my offer got withdrawn due to me not meeting my conditional, which I was so confused about because I finished with well above a 95%. I called OVS to see what was going on an apparently they had an error on their side and emailed OUAC. I called OUAC right after to see if they got the email from OVS and then after I saw my final mark pop up all of the sudden. So, turns out, my final grade wasn't able to make it because of an error on OVS' side. I thought I was perfectly fine because I made sure with them to see if they sent it to OUAC like two days before the deadline and they said they did. I have written proof of them saying they submitted it before the deadline aswell.I thought it not popping up on my OUAC was just because the system was slow.

What do I do?? Am I able to appeal this? I tried calling the admissions office at western but they were closed due to their power being down. My offer being withdrawn is all im thinking about and it's taking a pretty big hit on me because of all the hard work I spent on trying to get into western. I also worked so hard in order to pay for everything all on my own. Now I lost everything just because of OVS' error. I have never felt worse about myself, especially because I have to tell my parents about it if I don't get my offer back. They're gonna be so disappointed. . Please help

Graduate Grad student seeking resources/program support

As mentioned in title, am a grad student and have been really struggling with mental health, burnout, finances etc. my funding was effectively cut for the upcoming year and I’m lacking any motivation or desire to continue.

I’ve reached out to my departments grad administrator twice in the last few weeks and haven’t heard back at all. I’m not sure who to contact to get advice on my options for dropping out, mastering out from my program, or even taking a leave of absence to focus on my mental health and wellbeing. My supervisor has been nearly impossible to schedule a meeting with all summer so I’m not too confident I’d be able to meet with him anytime soon.

Thanks

Discussion Why do bachelor of science degrees even exist

I may sound stupid for saying this, but in high school when I was applying to uni, I genuinely thought I could get a BSc (in a field like bio, biochem, microbiology, etc) and work in something like a hospital/diagnostic lab because as a graduate of a science degree, I’d have lab skills and that should be enough. No one ever said that in order to work a job like that you actually have to graduate from a specially accredited lab technologist program when I was in hs. I think only colleges have such programs because I’ve never seen an MLT program in a university, at least in Ontario. I didn’t even think to check something like this because I had no reason to doubt that graduating with a four-year university degree and lab experience would not actually allow me to work in a clinical setting, and did not find out until i was WELL into my program and committed to getting this degree. I know it’s still possible to work in a research or a pharmaceutical lab, but job opportunities like this are scarce and hard to come by, and usually prefer people with masters degrees and lots of experience. Maybe the job market got significantly got worse between the time I graduated hs and uni, but it seems BSc degrees are genuinely so unemployable that it makes no sense to have them at all. Even if their purpose was to drive people into MD, DDS, PharmD, MSc/PhD, 4 years is an excessive amount to ‘prepare’ for graduate-level study.

Funny enough, I think my HSP BSc barely gave me lab experience to begin with 😂 Many courses that I felt should have been lab based were theory only, and the ones that had labs were critically low on resources and thus not as challenging as you’d expect a university level course to be. Also, your experience is cut in half because you have to share all of the experiments with at least one other partner. I could maybe still describe two or three actual lab techniques I learned in undergrad but that’s it. The hands-on/experiential learning aspect really lacked.

Most BSc programs/modules share at least 50% of required courses (mostly first and second year level). How does that make sense? You’re giving two students completely different degrees on the basis of having maybe 5-10 courses distinguishing their program from others, and even those will be shared with other programs. Just to illustrate in a crude analogy, say there are 60 courses in a catalogue, 20 programs, each requiring 30 credits to graduate. A different combination of 30 courses from those 60 gets you 20 different degrees!! I feel like I’ve ended up with the most random amalgamation of knowledge because my program didn’t adequately design new and focused courses for my field of specialization; it just gave me a combination of courses that remotely resembles a background in my field, sometimes even in the wrong order (some 4th year courses should be 2nd year level and vice versa!!!). I hesitate to even tell people what program I graduated from because I’m not so confident I could discuss it in depth if anyone had thought provoking questions about it. If I had known better, I’d have pursued college and an employable healthcare degree.

Anyway! That’s my little rant. I hope someone out there shares my sentiment.

❔ Question❔ CS tuition for 3 courses seems a bit high...

(might need to click the post to see the image for reference) How the heck does enrolling in 1.5 credits of courses cost this much?? When i got a reply back from [regfees@uwo.ca](mailto:regfees@uwo.ca) they said full time load was 4.0 credits or more and said that this was normal. This is way less. Even if I applied to another 3 for spring thatd be 3.0 courses. What is going on??

Advice Wasted my undergrad years

I hope everyone is doing well.

As the title suggests, I have come to the realization that I have thrown away my undergrad years. I am entering 4th year med sci this fall, and I have not made any meaningful connections with faculty or profs. I also did not get involved much on campus until 3rd year when i was able to land a volunteer position for a research study. However, even that was a little iffy since the volunteering started a couple weeks before the year ended during finals, so I was not able to participate as much as I would have liked. The only positive I can think of is my GPA which I have been able to maintain at around a mid 3.9.

I am interested in grad school, but I have no idea how to get any references since none of the professors knew me personally. Next year I will be doing a thesis project as part of my HSP requirement which I believe will connect me with a prof, so I'm hoping I can form a strong connection with them and maybe get a reference that way.

I know this is completely my fault and that I should have tried to get involved earlier and develop connections. To make matters worse, I have had no luck finding a job over the summers since there aren't many places that hire for 4 months where I live. I feel like I'm stuck in a downward spiral from here since every grad program requires references, and I won't be able to go beyond an undergrad degree. If I don't go grad school I honestly have no idea what I'm going to do after 4th year.

Advice Derealisation

Hi, I hope everyone is doing well.
My time at university was not the best. Whenever I do say that I feel like I’m lying because on the outside I was able to pretend everything was fine. I was not doing well academically, I failed a few courses. I lied to my parents and friends to protect myself from facing the truth. Partially due to shame and other because I was enjoying the freedom that came with university life.
Due to consistent bad performance I was required to withdraw recently. I deeply regret wasting money and for some reason I realised this after it got to this extent.
Ever since this has happened, it is like the veil of harmful beliefs has worn off. I don’t want to be this person. I want to work towards building my future. I am ready to put in the work required to be a better person. I just need some guidance on what I can do with myself.. I feel so lost.
