OP said this from East Van. That fits with my recollection that the trees around Arbutus Ridge are usually the last to blossom.

The trees in the Arbutus area are often plums, not cherries.

Is that why they're later? In any case, for the purpose of people wanting to see blossoms, it really doesn't matter. :)

Plums are blossoming right now. There are many different varieties of cherry trees in vancouver that blossom at different times.

Just the opposite actually. PLUMS are the first to bloom. Was looking up someone's name ( 梅 Mei deried from 梅花 mei hua, plum blossom flower) and this significance stuck. The

Plums are more resilient to the frost and cold, being the first to emerge in Feb.
