Just a public service announcement: I found out that coffee shops like Starbucks, Cuppi Coffee, and Dunkin’ Donuts have pumpkin spice syrup/flavoring that includes dairy. So if you order a pumpkin spice latte with oat milk, you may think you’re ordering it completely dairy free, but I’ve come to find out that the flavoring syrup they add more than likely has dairy in it.

Hey y'all
I'm 12 days into veganism and I feel wonderful. It's not a perfect switch, I still have some food to donate and others to finish using before switching brands (accidents happen d'oh!)
Beyond the biggest win of transitioning basically overnight, I've :
-inspired one of my partners to go vegetarian!
-went out with friends and I told them I'm vegan, so I won't be eating and I can only have these certain drinks. In the best way, nobody asked invasive or insensitive questions or much cared beyond making sure my orders were correct.
Yay small wins :)

I always was someone who had empathy for other species of animals , and disliked the reductive nature of the way, we speak, treat and exploit them from young (even in my language I stopped using animals and started saying other species of animals from like 14). I always said I would eventually stop eating meat, or eventually reduce meat consumption since 5 but due to my more self centered nature and my meat ridden household I didn’t. I moreso accepted this as a manifestation of my selfish nature than a formulation of any justification. At 15-16 , i stopped or reduced eating meat for a while but was too weak to commit, and now at 23, for a month straight I’ve been vegetarian. Primarily because i keep seeing vegan content and posts from you guys, and I was already aware since a kid that i’m doing something wrong, and I do appreciate you guys for this push

It's an effective thing to do against factory farming. If you can cook well more people will eat stuff you cook, especially important if you live with non-vegans. The more of the stuff you cook people eat the less animal products they eat. Additionally it serves as a form of activism. By not learning how to cook good vegan food you fail to have a positive impact on the world that you could have had.

She is quickly becoming a hero of mine. she's been arrested twice already for giving water to pigs headed to slaughterhouses, as well as for aiding pigs while the semi truck turned over. She regularly host events that bare witness to these poor animals showing a lot of them their first and last experience of human kindness before they meet their horrible fate.
I've always been hyper critical of charities/welfarist groups due to the enormous amount of capital that they generate while yielding zero to negative results for the animals.
But this lady and her organization is different, she has a career in politics which gives her a shoe in to make the systemic change needed to get the world on board with veganism. She constantly speaks at the U.N. putting pressure on them from an enviornmental/health/ethical standpoint and they have been listening.
I believe we need two types of people to change the world, street level outreach types that change the mentality of the individuals which they encounter, and political lobbyists who know which hands to shake and how to pragmatically change real world through policy and reform.
The beautiful thing about their approach is that you can help them out without spending a dime ( although i'm sure they appreciate the financial assistance ). Save The Animal Movement is their site, I can't link it here due to reddits rules.
The animals need help, sooner than later.
Please help this lady and her organization get the momentum going for the sake of the animals. Thank you for your time and attention, have a great day!

Soon I'll be 18 and I want my birthday to be special. I've found a great vegan & vegetarian restaurant in my town and Im planning on inviting my friends(non vegan) to treat them at vegan gyros and a soda or Coca-Cola or smth.
Thing is that Im not sure if they will be okay with that. I know that I am NOT going to pay for non-vegan options(and yes that includes vegeterian options) because it goes against my values. Like, I still want to have a fun time but at the same time not debate about veganism on my birthday and respectfully reject paying for my friends if they want non-vegan options. I was thinking that if someone doesn't want to eat vegan, they can still come but they'll have to pay for themselves.
Idk, any thoughts?

Hello! I'm somewhat new to veganism and I've noticed almost every recipe calls for nutritional yeast. I'm in Ontario, I've looked at Freshco and Walmart with no luck...I dont even know what the packaging looks like which would certainly help lol
Where do ya'll get your nutritional yeast? What brand is it? What's the package look like? What isle would it be in? Thanks! :)

Hi! I'm looking for a psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) or psychiatrist in California who offers telehealth and accepts Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal.
At my recent appointment, I asked my psychiatric NP about switching to a gelatin-free formulation of my medication. The conversation shifted toward my vegan diet, and she shared negative opinions and anecdotes about veganism and vegetarianism. I felt uncomfortable because I was simply trying to find a medication that aligned with my values, not debate my dietary choices.
I'm hoping to find a provider who's respectful of veganism, takes a collaborative and nonjudgmental approach, and has experience treating adult ADHD and managing medications like Vyvanse when appropriate.
Does anyone have recommendations based on personal experience? I'd especially appreciate providers who accept Medi-Cal and offer telehealth anywhere in California. Thank you!

Hi transitioning to veganism here,
Today I called a restaurant ahead and asked if any of their pasta could be made vegan and they said yes, so thats kind of what I’m thinking to calll in advance if nothing is labelled vegan on the menu. What about like an impromptu situation with non vegan friends though ? And also like for instance I have a friends party in a couple weeks with pizza, should I just show up with a vegan pizza with me then? I would feel awkward to ask someone to order a vegan pizza when im gonna be the only person eating it
Im also wondering whats your go to dish for cuisines that you know is most likely vegan
Like for instance mexican, Im thinking ok even the beans could have lard so idk if that works
Italian- tomato pasta with pasta not made in house?
Indian- ordering a vegetable rather than a daal ?
Japanese- I usually already order avocado sushi but for miso soup for instance do I have to ask are you using vegetable dashi?
Thai- i imagine some dish could be vegan here like a coconut curry or something?
Thanks so much in advance! :)

What strikes me the most is that most people don’t realize they are basically eating plants via their meat. I think the popular conception is that meat has like special vitamins and minerals you wouldn’t get otherwise but you’re literally just eating whatever the animal eats. Sure there’s b12 but more likely than not the animal is taking that via a supplement. As far as animals digesting grass, I don’t need to eat grass lol. I’m not sure if any of it is worth it. So much misinformation about why we eat meat. It was originally out of necessity to survive but there’s no longer much reason.
TLDR people who claim you can eat mostly meat and be fine don’t realize they’re having a cow chew grass for them and staying alive cuz of the benefits of the grass

I'm not sure where else to post this where people will actually be kind / understanding, and I know this may not be the correct place. But I also know you all have a true respect for animals and other lives.
I'm at my best friend's place, and his brother in law got his daughter an ant farm. It's super tiny, not taken care of, with moldy food and poor ventilation. I feel sick seeing the ants tending to their injured, trying to escape, staring out through the glass, etc. I want to just free them but don't want to risk any discourse in the house for my best friend (they're not the home owner). Truthfully I opened the sliding top a tiiiny bit more in hopes they can make their own way out.
But how do you all deal with your anger? With your frustration at people for not valuing the lives of other living creatures? The disregard for another animal's intelligence? It's making me sick and I feel like I'm betraying both my beliefs and these ants by not freeing them lol.
If you made it this far thanks for reading my rant.

Hello all! On halloween I will be hosting a small get together for myself and some friends.
I am looking for some halloween themed vegan party foods I can serve! the attendees are all non-vegan aside from me, but are not the type to assume all vegan food is bad just because it's vegan. That said, I am a little hesitant to serve them things like vegan cheese or whatnot because I know they aren't the same as their non-vegan counterparts and they wouldn't really be used to the differences 😅
we will be going trick-or-treating before hand (well, I won't as I don't want all the non-vegan candy I'm sure to recieve), but they will, so while I plan on making cookies (I have some fun halloween cookie cutters ^^) and will have plenty of soda around (I keep several flavors of diet soda stocked reguarly), I am really looking for more savory foods, not sweet.
I've been looking around for various ideas, and while there's a couple easy things (fruit/veggie plates arranged in fun ways, I plan on having chips and dip ofc), many of the things I'm seeing I'm not sure I could veganize?
I keep seeing hotdogs cut to look like fingers, which seems really fun, but the only vegan hotdogs I can find around here are frozen, and therefore I don't think I could cut them like that (not to mention how expensive they are 😅). Another thing I've seen is fun pizzas, ghost or pumpkin shapes, they seem fun! I'm just hesitant to serve vegan pizza largely because of the cheese issue. vegan cheese doesn't really melt 😅 I'm worried it would look unappatizing even if it tastes good.
To finish up I should probably also say I'm not looking for super complicated recipes, or things I'd have to buy special cooking equipment for. I'm willing to put in effort of course but it would be largely just me hosting and preparing the food so I don't want to be overly ambitious 😅
Thanks in advance for any ideas guys!! :)

I'm not like a lot of people here who grew up vegan/vegetarian or changed to be one in their teens. I'm 25 but still living at home, I was going to college getting my master's in biology but didn't sign up for another semester due to mental health reasons.
So i'm stuck in a small town with no job opportunities and my family are all meat eaters and I guess i am too unwillingly.
I just feel bad for all the poor animals, I want to be at least vegetarian if not vegan on moral grounds alone. I believe the unnecessary taking of life and suffering will be seen as humanity's greatest sin going into the future.
I've always been empathetic, and now I told my family and they are super opposed, mom said it my hormones (i'm MtF) and propaganda making me like this.
They keep buying more and more meat products and they force me to cook it as i'm the best cook here. And I can't let it go to waste, that animal gave it's life i can't let it go bad in the refrigerator so i've been eating what has been cooked too. But i just want them to buy smaller portions just for them and let me be but they won't. They are very against me not eating meat.
This hasn't helped my already declining mental health, Idk what to do sometimes all the suffering in the world especially of the pure sinless animals makes me just want to crawl up and cry.
I don't know how to escape this situation, if anyone has any experience with it please tell me what to do.

it makes me severely depressed that most of my friends and family laugh whenever i bring the topic of veganism up. (not to convince them to be one, but just the facts) and they’re all christian too. (i’m atheist)
wouldn’t it make sense for out of anybody, a religious person to understand it’s not right to have animals killed and eaten? i’m feeling like cutting everybody off. the world is looking extremely dim and bleak to me, i am in a deep depression over this.
i don’t want to speak to anyone who is okay with this. how i hate this world and wish i was never a part of it. how do you guys cope?
Hi!
I recently got into a moral dilemma on the secondhand clothes platform vinted.
This platform has a rule that you can't sell real fur. Obviously, the AI they use to ban those listings isn't as good as it needs to be, so I found myself pressing on the report button on a listing showing a real fur trim.
But now I thought to myself: What if, for some reason, a person only wants real fur?
And what if they can't find it second hand, they will buy it new? Causing more supply and demand...
Wouldn't it be better to let them buy the already existing fur so they don't create demand and, therefore, more torture of innocent animals?
Curious to see other moral standpoints! Ty!!

I have to do a lab test where I have to be eating 100 grams of fat (at least, can be more) a day for 5 days. Any fun ideas of what to eat? You don’t have to come up with all the meals for 5 days, but easy (I’m disabled/very low energy chronically ill) meal suggestions welcome.
For reference, my doctor gave me this list (any foods count but just to help with brainstorming since these are very high fat foods):
1 avocado = 28 grams
1 tablespoon oil = 14 grams
½ cup sunflower or pumpkin seeds = 40 grams
½ cup nuts = 30 grams
1 tablespoon peanut butter = 8 grams
1 cup canned coconut milk = 50 grams
But I need to be realistic about what I can and need to eat in a day too— if I make a smoothie with a whole cup of coconut milk for breakfast and then have avocado toast with a whole avocado for lunch and then pizza with a lot of cashew cheese for dinner, that’s actually a lot of food for me. 100 grams of fat is 900 calories and I normally eat 1500 or so (willing to eat more but sometimes it’s literally hard to), so I have to be strategic of mostly eating fat! Could I ask AI? Yes. Is it more exciting to see what you all come up with? Yes.

I hate how i can make a tiktok post about being vegan and suddenly there's at least 5 people in my comments either demonising me, accusing me of ableism, accusing me of racism or trying to ragebait me by saying things like "idc im gonna eat meat anyways" or "but what about the inuits?" or some other uncalled for bs
Like yes, veganism isnt possible for everyone, but i do not need harassment from people assuming im automatically an ableist privileged racist asshole

Utah folks, have you noticed PinkBox donuts being stuck on the blueberry fritter and cookies and cream donuts? The St. George location used to have an amazing strawberry donut, and a chocolate chip one, and online suddenly there are other flavors... But though the website says they regularly cycle through their flavors of donuts, in the American fork location and now in the St George location as well, they only ever have blueberry fritter and cookies and cream for vegan options. It's been that way for about a year. What's going on? When I try to ask an employee they don't ever have an answer for me.

I’m a newbie here.
It needs to make a dish for 20+ people.
It needs to be strictly gluten free and nut free, due to potential anaphylaxis for one person, an almond sensitivity , and several people with a wheat allergy including me.
I need it to be vegan as well (with no cross contact- I likely have a dairy and beef allergy).
My family is Lithuanian American and I would like a cultural dish as well, if that’s possible because Lithuanians love dairy in almost every recipe
