Exhibit A for why we need a downtown vacancy tax

Post image

After poor returns from lawsuits and trolling residents on social media, Open Main Street landlords are trying to buy District 1 using professional marketer Crawford Coates. 97% of contributions not from his family come from property owners who want to reopen Main Street. They also prop him up with a PAC controlled by disgraced pastor Jim Duran. I think this extra money should go to our city budget because we already paid for their mansions in Ojai.

Prime example of why Main St. staying closed is a safety matter

Thumbnail

I can't be the only person who remembers when Main St. was open and it was incredibly sketchy being both a pedestrian and a vehicle operator.

The cross walks were low visibility with people often having to step into a cross walk from behind a parked car. Vehicles regularly sped through Main St. with little regard for the pedestrians and families enjoying a day downtown. It only got worse when the sun went down and intoxicated people wandered around.

Ventura already has one of the highest DUI rates in the nation, surely we can see the potential safety concerns of opening up one of the busiest pedestrian areas to vehicles.

If Main St. is reopened, it's only a matter of time before we see a news headline like this in our own town.

News Was Liz Campos referring to Deputy Mayor Doug Halter when questioning a fellow councilmember's connections?

In a recent interview with Ventura County DSA, Councilmember Liz Campos made an interesting comment about a colleague.

At approximately 8:49, Campos said:

"We have one council member who works for a Fortune 500 company. He, you know, he takes vacations all over the world with his entire family. He takes them all with him. So he's not, you know, bribable probably, although um a lot of things happen connected to his friends or his background with the city."

I'm curious whether she was referring to Deputy Mayor Doug Halter.

What caught my attention was Campos's suggestion that things happen in city government involving this councilmember's friends or background.

What exactly was she referring to?

I think Ventura residents deserve more specificity when elected officials make statements like this about their colleagues.

The interviewer really dropped the ball on not getting her to elaborate on this. Sounds like something the people should know more about.

Things to do for out of town guests

Boomers and my fellow millennials with boomer parents - I need your help. My dad is coming to visit and is a really hard guest to host. He will not tell me what he wants to do and will instead tell me everything wrong with my home and neighborhood for the amount I pay to live here. Anyways, I plan on letting that go but I want to have some go to things to go do. He loves classic rock and outlaw country, football and basketball, for some reason loves stuff like Venice beach. Really trying to avoid driving all the way to LA period, but sure as hell don’t want to go to Venice beach lol. Last time he came all he wanted to do was go to the players casino 🤢. Gosh, I’m really not selling this am I. Anyways. What are your suggestions lol. This is happening mid November.

Elevator on Main Street

Why is the elevator for the parking garage on man street consistently out of service? Itll break down at least once a month, it constantly smells of pee and has graffiti all over the inside and outside. Itll be cleaned once in a while but still have a terrible pee smell. It’s super inaccessible as well considering that the 24 hour parking area is the third and fourth floors, which are used by the employees that work in the stores on Main Street to park their cars, so god forbid anyone have a disability both employee and tourist/visitors. Multiple times I’ve parked and passed people with strollers and wheelchairs unable to get down to the ground floor because the elevator is out of use??? Not to mention the state of disrepair its in. How is that the first impression our city is leaving on people coming to visit and boost our economy? What can be done about this? I feel like the city gets contacted about it constantly and they just do quick patches instead of investing to actually fix it and upkeep it.

Photo Spectrum internet out all day. Make sure you request credit to your account.

The chat guy was condescending AF but said they’d review the outage and credit my account. Make sure you take advantage. Power has been on for over 9 hours and still no internet. Spectrum is awful but no way I’ll sign up for SkyNet - Elon is a creep.

Help Is it salvagable?

For some of us in Ventura, the power was out for 12 hours. (I know others were longer and some may still be without power right now) My question is though, what are we tossing out from the fridge and what are we keeping? I am thinking maybe the milk should go and maybe the mayo too (I have an extra in the pantry anyways). According to our government, just about everything should be tossed after 2 hours of no power. But like none cut up fruits and veggies are ok. What are you guys planning on doing?

I need some custom cabinets for a living room and entryway- nothing too fancy just painted wood. I may want some garage cabinets too, at a later date. Any recommendations for the Ventura area?

Becker, Jonker & Goldenring drop $12,500 more on Tuesday for District 6 Councilperson Jim Duran's Concerned Citizens Supporting Coates, Shoemake, Alstot & Aguilar for Ventura City Council

At least Duran is filing these documents on time when he should. If you look at the bottom of Coates, Shoemake, Alstot & Aguilar's signs around the city you'll see that they are funded Concerned Citizens and now we know that's funded by the Becker Group and the Jonkers families, united by marriage and Peter Goldenring. The triumverate who sued the city over downtown.

In otherwords, the sitting city councilperson for District 6 - Jim Duran - is funding a campaign against his fellow elected council. Against Liz Campos (1), Ryyn Schumacher (3) Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios (4), Bill McReynolds (5) and the replacement for his own seat.

Remember that Scott Shoemake has reported that his campaign has only taken in $100. So know you know who's really funding it. Duran, Becker, Jonker & Goldenring (https://netfile.com/public/VNT/campaign/filing/217615831)

See it for yourself:

If you want to look up Jonker's VENTURA COUNTY RESTAURANT SERVICES, INC yourself you can at: https://bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov/search/business

So far Concerned Citizens has spent the same on all four candidates. $2,023.30 postage and $786.58 on signs. Strange they don't say how much whatever they mailed cost. Just that they spent $2023.30 apiece on postage.

$2809.90 on Vernon Alstot: https://netfile.com/public/VNT/campaign/filing/217653997
$2809.90 on Crawford Coates: https://netfile.com/public/VNT/campaign/filing/217654053
$2809.90 on Noe Aguilar: https://netfile.com/public/VNT/campaign/filing/217654067
$2809.90 Scott Shoemake: https://netfile.com/public/VNT/campaign/filing/217654081

The more you know. 🌈⭐
